Entry One
My dearest, I remember the first time I saw you. Your wild hair pulled back into a respectable ponytail, you're glossed over eyes staring at me, and a childish smile that plagues my heart. You followed your siblings closely, letting them guide you through the large crowds and shouting people...
Kilola sat across the hall of her sister's small gathering, patiently listening to the ticking sound that was in her head.
"Five hours," she whispered to herself, a reminder that she would soon return to her home. The mad, meddlesome, and miserable home often called Underland. In her opinion, it was called Underland so much that people forgot the real name of the underground country.
Actually, she forgot many things including who was in the room with her.
"Melianna," Kilola began as she tugged on her older sister's silver sleeve that was attached to her mermaid style dress. "Who is that man?"
The man she was referring too was a noble from the other side of the ocean, or as Melianna would say 'across the pond.' He was tall and slim, with dark eyes, as well as black hair.
"I honestly don't know," The older sister replied. Her long brown hair was braided, resting down her back with one of her many crowns pinned on her head. The dress fit her body perfectly, emphasizing every curve in a positive way.
In contrast, Kilola looked nothing like her sister. Pigment was missing from her body, forcing her skin to be pure white along with her hair. Her eyes would shift from violet to red from the lighting. On her body, she wore a Lolita styled dress, white skirt and blouse with purple lace and ribbons.
She looked only 16, but in reality, her birthing age dated back to around the time of the Romans. She knew she was of Roman descent, or that's what her mother said.
"Look at Meridian," whispered Melianna. She pointed to a young man, he looked 18 maybe 19 but Kilola knew he outdated her in real age.
"Handsome as always," Kilola spoke. She knew it was true, Meridian was always handsome, he held features that could melt any gender's heart, but Kilola didn't have an attraction to him.
No, Kilola found interest in the shorter boy trailing behind him, nervously trying to keep up with the others in the large group. He had light brown hair, cloudy eyes, and a pale coloured suit. He had early spring green suspenders that matched his bow tie.
"No way, is that one of Lunerin's kids?" Kilola asked her sister.
"Yeah, I think it's one of the triplets," Melianna replied. "Let's go talk to them."
The two sisters walked over to the group from the forested nation North of the one Melianna ruled. They always went in packs, like wolves. It didn't help that nearly everyone was out to kill them.
"Meridian, Lunerin, how are you?" Melianna greeted with a smile that was meant to be more flirtatious than it came off as. Kilola knew of the one-sided romance, how Melianna chased and Lunerin ignored. Meridian knew just as well as Kilola that it wouldn't end well. It never did.
"I'm doing fine," Meridian answered. He seemed a bit down but the group brushed it off. He didn't like talking about his feelings, or that is how Kilola saw it.
"I am perfect. A grand ball for a grand time," Lunerin said dramatically. "I got Caspian to show up," Lunerin hitched his thumb behind him to show a pale man with a black splotch over his left eye.
"Aaden will be pleased," Melianna grinned. "Its so obvious that they like one another, but I'm afraid they have no idea how to express it."
"Where is Aaden?" Lunerin asked.
"It's Ally today," Kilola said quietly. "He wanted to wear a dress."
A barking laughter came from the man. "Caspian and Aaden belong together. They both wear drag, and I think that is all they have in common."
"Caspian keeps a garden, does he not?" Melianna asked.
"Yeah, I guess. But we all sort of have something. He also draws," Meridian added.
"Well, Aaden likes to paint. Also, Aaden doesn't wear drag you, idiot," Kilola mumbled to herself.
"Yeah, then what is it?" Lunerin snapped.
"Its cross-dressing," Kilola explained.
"Still drag to me," Lunerin grumbled.
Kilola took in a deep breath and excused herself from the conversation. She wanted to speak to people but she couldn't handle Lunerin to save her life- and it could have saved her life a few hundred years ago.
"Are you alright?" A soft voice asked. It sounded almost girly, but it still held a boyish charm.
"Are you speaking to me?" Kilola asked. She turned to see the light haired boy gazing in her general direction.
"I-I think so. Sorry if I seem rude, I can't see," the boy said.
"Are the lights too bright?" she asked him.
"No, I'm blind," he replied.
It felt like someone punched her in the stomach. She was too ignorant to see that he couldn't see. "I'm so sorry, I'm a bit blind to- no I mean to say."
The boy laughed, it was soft but it had some amusement to it. "It's alright. I'm used to it."
"I don't want you to be used to it," Kilola said, the words surprising her as she said them.
"And why not?"
"Because being used to someone being ignorant of something like that is horrible. I would hate it if someone came up and asked me if I don't get enough sunlight."
"Do you not get enough sunlight?" He asked.
"Well, yes, but I'm not able to have too much sunlight. I'm albino- that means-"
"I know what an albino is," The boy said. "I may be blind but I still can read."
"How is that possible?" Kilola asked.
"Well, I'm not completely blind. Right now you are an outline of energy. I see pink, purple, some black, and a little red. That's the energy of- well what is your name?"
"My name is Kilola Hysteron."
"Hello Kilola, I'm Cecil." He smiled and held out his hand. She very carefully took it into her own, being surprised by how much larger they were than hers. He seemed so small, but at the same time, he wasn't.
"I hope to see you again, Cecil," she said as they pulled their hands away. She curtsied to him even though she assumed he wouldn't notice and then added, "I'm going to find my bro-sister. Whatever it is."
"I hope you find you brosister whatever it is," Cecil replied. "And if I don't see you again I hope you aren't disappointed."
"You could never disappoint," Kilola said without thinking. She winced again at her own stupidity and then took in a few deep breaths. "Goodbye."
"Goodbye."
