24: Get Your Priorities Straight
The next day, Nadia and Sophia are sitting in a booth at Blossom's as they impatiently wait for Finn and Drake to show up. In all honesty they were both pretty nervous as this is basically the first time that Nadia has seen or even spoken to Finn since they left Andel Falls, and the same goes for Sophia and Drake. Sophia nervously looks up at the clock that reads 2:54 pm. They couldn't wait for them any longer, so they both ordered food while they anxiously waited.
Sophia sipped her mug of hot coffee and groaned. "Where are they?!" She asked irritably. "I have absolutely no clue. But, they need to hurry up." Nadia sighed as she took a bite of her cheeseburger. "I'm going to be so upset if they bail on us. This is the first time Drake is going to see me outside of school. I actually put in extra effort in morning!" Sophia pouts as she crossed arms. "I see." Nadia giggled as she points at Sophia's curled hair. "That's a good look for you!" She added. "Thanks, I even put on my favorite dress." Sophia said excitedly. "Soph, it's like, 35 degrees outside. Aren't you cold?" Nadia asked. "I mean, only a little. At least the stockings I put on are giving me some warmth." Sophia smiled as Nadia shook her head.
"Why didn't you dress up?" Sophia asked Nadia as she studied her oversized jacket, denim jeans and Chuck Taylor's. "Why would I? We're just coming here to eat." Nadia shrugged. "Don't you want to look good for Finn?" Sophia asked. "Sophie, this was all I used to wear on campus. It's practically my style now. And besides, Finn liked me back then, even when I did wear stuff like this. Why wouldn't he like me now?" Nadia replied as she took a sip of her soda. " I'm just saying that he might be expecting it, since, you know, Marie dressed up. She always tried to look better than everyone else." Sophia awkwardly explained. "Well, I'm not Marie. Finn is just gonna have to except that I'm a complete opposite of his ex." Nadia smirked.
"So, did you get another letter from your parents yet?" Nadia asked Sophia. "Not yet. Hopefully everything's good over there. I just really miss them, especially Marcia." Sophia sighs. Nadia sees how sad Sophia is over not being able to see her family for the holidays. She instantly reaches across the table and squeezes her hand. "Hey, I'm sure they're doing alright. And besides, as soon as summer break's here, you'll get to see them!" Nadia stated in reassurance. "Thanks Nadia." Sophia smiled brightly.
Sophia looks out of the window and gets a glimpse of Finn and Drake making their way to the diner. "Oh my god! Here they come." Sophia hurriedly fixes her hair and smooths out her dress. "How do I look?!" She asked nervously. "Like you've just stepped out of Seventeen magazine." Nadia said. "I'm assuming that's really good." Sophia sighed in relief as Finn and Drake walked in. " Finn, Drake, over here!" Sophia looks like she's about to burst from excitement as she calls the boys over to the booth. "Hey, Sophie!" Finn greets her happily as they both hug each other.
Finn immediately looks at Nadia and she feels her heart skip a beat. She quickly collects herself, pretending to act nonchalant but ultimately failing. She definitely wasn't feeling this nervous before, so why was it happening now?
"Hey." Finn said with a smile as he say down next to her. "Hey." Nadia uttered nervously. Sophia and Drake seem like they're in their own little world, as they talked to one another happily. Nadia looks down to see them holding hands. "How is this easy for them?" She thought as she continued to stare at them. "You feeling alright?" Finn whispered to her. Nadia snapped her head to look at him. "Huh? Oh, I'm fine. Totally fine." She states with a forced smile. " You know, Nadia, just because this is our first time seeing each other since we left Andel Falls, doesn't mean that I've changed. I'm still the same Finn that helped you find your dorm room on the first day." He said with a smirk. "I'm just saying that there's no need for you to be nervous." Finn grabs Nadia 's hand from under the table and holds it and Nadia begins to look a bit more comfortable.
"I guess I needed you to say that." She exhaled with a giggle. Finn smiles as he turned his focus to Sophia and Drake. He clears his throat in order to get their attention. They immediately stop. "What?!" Drake snaps. Finn puts the gold ring on the table. " I believe we came here to talk about a certain topic." Finn mentioned as his cocked his brow. "Oh right, sorry." Drake says as he turns his attention to Finn. Sophia shifts closer to Drake, causing him to look over his shoulder and smirk at her, as he turns to Finn again.
"So, how did you talk to Yara?" Nadia asked. "Well, she told me that since I have my powers, some of my soul is connected to the Spirit Realm." He answered. "Spirit Realm? What is that?" Sophia chimed in. "It's basically "heaven" for, like, good magical beings, especially sorcerers. Anyway, she told me that once we all get our powers, we'll all be connected to the Spirit Realm." He explained. "Wait, Nadia and I don't have our powers yet. Is there anyway that Yara can help speed up the process?" Drake asked with a hopeful look. " I don't think so, man. You'll probably just have to wait for them to kick in, like Sophie and I did." Finn answered. Drake's shoulders slumped as he heard Finn's answer. "Well, it was worth a shot." He sighed.
"What about the ring?" Sophia asked as she stared at it. "She said that I'll be able communicate with her better if I wear it." He stated. "Well, have you worn it yet?" Nadia questioned. "Not really." He replied. Just as Finn finished his statement, someone extremely unexpected entered the diner.
"Oh God, no." Drake whispered as they all watched Marie, Donna, Charlie, Mandy, and Mandy's brother, Vincent walk in and sit down at one of the booths in the corner of the diner. "Why is she here of ALL PLACES?!" Finn hissed as he tried to hide his face. " I mean, Blossom's is a really popular hangout spot." Nadia shrugged. "Guys, we have to get out of here and without being seen." Finn panicked.
"Well, if it isn't the rat pack and their new foreigner rodent queen!" They all jump at the sound of Marie's voice, as they all look up to see her standing in front of their table. "So much for our escape plan, Finn." Sophia sighed. "What do you want, Marie?" Finn rolled his eyes. "I'm going to give you about two minutes to change tables or I'll run you and your little clique out of here. I'll humiliate you so bad that you never want to be seen with these losers again." She threatened. Drake and Nadia stated at her angrily as Sophia began to speak. "Finn, don't. She's just trying to mark her territory." She said. "I don't think I was talking to you, you backstabbing cow." Marie snapped. "You. Over There. Now." Marie pointed at Finn angrily as she started to walk off.
Finn began to look between the two tables, darting his eyes back and forth. "Finn, man, don't do it." Drake gritted his teeth. "Remember what I just said! She's marking her territory!" Sophia exclaimed. "I really hope that you're not thinking about going over there." Nadia said sharply, causing the group to fall silent. She avoided Finn's gaze as she angrily stared out the window. Finn sighed as he stood up. "Nadia, how about we go outside? Maybe get some air?" He suggested with his hands in his pockets. Nadia side eyed him but eventually stood up and followed him outside into the diner's parking lot.
Nadia leaned on the brick wall as she crossed her arms and glared at Finn. "Look, I feel really crappy about what just happened in there." Finn said. "I know that I should've said something about us." He continued. "I'm not going to stand around and wait for you to decide when I'm more important than your ex." She snapped. "I know. I want to make this work even if we have the biggest obstacle of all obstacles in our way." Finn stated.
"Nadia, would you please just look at me for a sec?" Finn asked as he moved closer to her. "Nadia, come on. Please?" Finn brushes his hand up against hers. She finally faces him. "What?" She sighs. "I'm going to stay at our table. She's not the boss of me. I really want us to be together. I'd be crushed if I lost you again." Finn replied as he continued to look into Nadia's eyes.
Nadia crossed her arms and smirked. "What?" Finn chuckled. "You think you can just make instantly forgive you by casually saying just about everything that I want to hear and giving me puppy dog eyes?" She giggled. "Well, is it working?" He asked with a innocent shrug. "To be honest, it kind of is." Nadia said with small smile. "Well, how about now?" Finn asked he grabbed her hand and pulled her closer. "Is all this newfound confidence coming from the fact that Marie might be watching us right now?" Nadia smirked as she wrapped her arms around Finn's neck. "Maybe, maybe not." He chuckled. "But, if I'm being, honest, I don't really care." He muttered as he slowly leaned in to kiss her. As he got closer, Nadia backed away from him.
"Not so fast. You're not out of the woods just yet." She crossed her arms as cocked her eyebrow. "What do I have to do?" Finn sighed as his shoulders slumped. "Go back inside and tell Marie that you're not gonna sit with her." Nadia ordered. "After that, maybe I'll think about kissing you." She said as she walked towards the door. "Why are you torturing me like this?" Finn asked. "Oh, stop being so dramatic!" Nadia giggled as she waked back into the diner.
Nadia walked to her table as she was greeted back Donna, Charlie, and Mandy. "Hey guys. Why aren't you sitting with Marie?" She asked as she sat down. "Because she's getting pretty annoying." Charlie answered. "I know right! Why cant't we have a normal day without Marie chasing after Finn?!" Mandy exclaimed. "Like I said, marking her territory." Sophia sighed. "I bet five bucks that Finn's sitting with Marie." Mandy stated. "Are you kidding me? He would never do that to Nadia, unless he really wants a death sentence." Drake opposed. "Yeah." Sophia agreed. "By the way, we saw you guys outside." Donna said to Nadia. "Looks like you guys back on. Are you?" She added.
Everyone was anticipating Nadia's answer as they all stared at her. "Depends on what he does in a few seconds." She shrugged. As they finished talking, Finn opens the door and walks in. He stomps over to Marie as she talks to Vincent. "Well, would you look at that. You made the right choice, babe." Marie says with sinister tone. "Boom! Easy cake! Cough it up, Drake!" Mandy bragged as she held her hand out.
"I'm not sitting with you! Finn said with a disgusted look. "Excuse me?!" Marie snapped. "Actually, I'd rather drink toilet water than sit with you. When are you going to take a hint? I don't want you anymore!" Finn exclaimed. Marie gritted her teeth as she spoke. "Finn, I don't know what's gotten into yo-!" "You've said more than enough when we were together. Now, its my turn." He interrupted. "I'm not going to run away or hide from you anymore." He began. "I have people that actually accept me for who I am." Finn said as he turned to the Drake, Sophia, and the rest of the group. "And I have someone that really cares about me and I would give anything that make our relationship work. And for the first time, she really wants that too." he said as he stared at Nadia, who's blushing uncontrollably.
"So, like I said FOUR MONTHS AGO, I'm done with you!" Finn spoke sharply as Marie sat there, speechless. He walked over to his table as the group cheered for him. Finn sat next to Nadia and held her hand. "Well, well, Amanda." Drake taunted Mandy as he grinned evilly. "Looks like the tables have turned." He wiggled his eyebrows as Mandy rolled her eyes. She begrudgingly reached into her pockets and placed a five dollar bill into Drake's hand. "Pleasure doing business with you." Drake said he put the bill in his wallet. "Wait, did you guys bet on if I would sit with Marie or not?" Finn asked in annoyance. "Sorry?" Drake said guiltily. "I should've known since you and Mandy literally bet on everything." Finn stated. "Yeah, if anything symbolized you two's friendship, it would definitely be the dollar sign!" Charlie added.
For the remainder of the group's time at Blossom's, they ate, laughed, and talked about what they've been up to ever since they left the university. As they left the diner and entered the parking lot, The group said goodbye to Mandy as she left with Marie and her brother. Nadia was talking to Charlie and Donna when she felt Finn tap her on the shoulder. "Hey, could I talk to you for a second?" He asked with a smile. She said bye to Donna and Charlie as they went to talk to Drake and Sophia.
"What did you want to talk about?" Nadia questioned. "So." He began with a nervous laugh. "Every Christmas, my family has this Christmas party just before my dad goes on his business trip." He stated. "Oh yeah, Drake told me about that!" Nadia smiled. "Yeah, he said that he did." He chuckled. "Anyway, they told me that I could invite anyone that I want, so I was thinking that maybe you could be my plus one?" He asked he started to twiddle his thumbs. "I understand if it's....alot." He said. "Yeah, If I go I'd be meeting your family for the first time." She mentions with an awkward laugh. "Nadia, I don't think you should be nervous. I'm sure they'll really like you."
As soon as Finn said that, an idea popped into his head. "You know what, how about you, Sophie and your parents come by tomorrow night? My brothers made up this weird family tradition where we just have a Saturday Game Night. I always invite Drake, and Donna said that she'd be up for it. That way, you can get to know my family, your parents can mingle with my parents, and you get to hangout with the gang again!" He suggested. "I'll think about it. I have to see if my parents are busy that day." She said nervously. "Hey, look at me." He said as he held her hands. "Everything's going to be fine. Don't worry about trying to impress them. Just be Nadia, even though they'll probably be impressed with you anyway." They laughed.
Nadia looks at her watch. "Oh snap, it's almost 5:30. I gotta get home. My mom wants Sophia and I to help her bake Christmas cookies for her co-workers." She said as she walked to her truck as Finn followed her. "Hey, Sophie! We have to get going!" She called out. "Oh okay!" Sophia answered. She kissed Drake on the cheek and jogged over to the truck. "See you later, Finn. It was cool hanging out with you guys!" Sophia grinned as she got in the passenger seat and shut the door. "Same here, Soph!" Finn agreed as he held the door open for Nadia to get in.
Nadia put on her seat belt and started the truck. "Alright, let me know if you'll be able to make it tomorrow night." Finn said. "I definitely will. I'll ask them as soon as I get home." Nadia smiled. "Okay, drive safely." Finn kissed her on the cheek and closed the door. Finn watched as they drove off. "So, Nadia's coming to game night?" Drake sighed. "Hopefully." Finn said.
"This might be the most nerve-wracking thing I've done."
