21: The Golden Goddess
"Wait, what do you mean, Spirit Realm?" Finn started as he slowly began to freak out. "Oh my god, I'm dead!" He screamed. "Finn you're not dead." Yara replied. "Then, why else would I be in the Spirit Realm?! I probably had a heart attack in my sleep because of that creepy black hood guy and now here you are, saying that I'm in the Spirit Realm!" Finn exclaimed.
"Finn, stop." Yara said as she crossed her arms. "Yara, you have to bring me back to life! I have a lot of important things to do, before I can even accept the concept of death itself! I want to graduate college and stand up to my dad and tell him that I want to be SOMETHING OTHER than a freaking football star! I want to travel the world with Drake and have the best summer road trip of all summer road trips! I want to finally show Nadia that I can be a fantastic boyfriend and for the love of God, I want to tell Marie to get ran over by HUGE, GINORMOUS BUS!!" Finn shouted angrily as he panted.
Yara stood there still folding her arms and tapping her foot. "Are you done?" She asked. "Yes. Now, resurrect me, already. " Finn said as he shut his eyes and waited. "For the second time, Finn, you're not dead." She said.
"THEN, WHY AM I HERE?!" Finn shouted as he crazily gestured to the corridor. "BECAUSE, THOSE CRAZY HOODED WACKOS ARE STILL AFTER YOU!" She roared. Yara collected herself and cleared her throat. "My apologies, would you follow me, please?" She asked.
Finn silently limped beside her. "Sorry for freaking out." He said. "No worries. I should've told you why I sent you here to see me." She started. "Physically, you are still in your bedroom sleeping, but spiritually you are here with me." She states. "So, I'm not dead, right?" Finn asked.
"Thankfully, no. Because you're in a subconscious state, your spirit is still tied to the realm of the living but only a portion of it is tied here, and that explains why you're able to hear, see, and communicate with me.
"So, this whole situation, feels like a dream, but it really isn't?" Finn asked. "Yes. I tried to communicate with all of you before but you weren't physically ready for it. I have to wait until all of your powers kick in order to bring you all at the same time." Yara said.
"Do you know anything about the crystal?" Finn asked. "Well, given that I'm responsible for that ordeal, I know everything there is to know about it." She said. "What do you mean "responsible"?" Finn questioned her. "Truth is, I was a human just like you but I was gifted with powers. But, I couldn't handle every part of my magic. So, I put everything into that very crystal that you and your friends touched, even darkest parts of my magic." She said with regret. Now, every person that wields light magic, views me as a savior, and a Goddess. But my magic was used for works of good and evil. My magic birthed the evil king of the Emerald Realm, Damien Valskar. He is dead, but his magic still lives on in his followers. He knew that I stored my magic into the crystal and he did the same after my greatest warrior hid it.
"Then, my friends and I found it." Finn mumbled. "You and your friends are in grave danger if anyone else has touched the crystal." Yara said with a serious tone. "Trust me, no one else touched it, Drake hid it somewhere safe." Finn said. "Then, all you have to do is battle Valskar's cult." She said. "You and Sophia are fine but, Drake and Nadia need to get their powers as soon as possible." She added.
They finally reach the end of the corridor and stand in front of pair of large golden double doors. Yara pushes them open to reveal a city filled with people. Finn looks around in amazement. "Come with me. We need to get your leg checked out." Yara ordered.
A few minutes later, Finn is in the infirmary getting his leg checked out. "Yep, this is definitely a third degree burn. But I'll get my assistant to heal you up and fix that nose of yours." They said. The assistant immediately comes over and put a hand over Finn's leg as he watches it magically heal and go back to normal. "That was insane! You're so talent"! Finn complimented the assistant with a bright smile. "Yara, whoever this kid is, I already like him." The assistant said. "Okay, Finn, let's go, we're on borrowed time." Yara says as they open the doors to the corridor again.
"Alright." Yara says as she drops something in his hands. Finn looked down and revealing a bright gold ring covered in small writing. "What's this?" He asked. "It'll help you communicate with me while you're in the Jade Realm." Finn gave her a confused look. "Oh right, the Jade Realm, is basically Earth. Once you put the ring on in your conscious state, you'll basically be like my personal messenger." She says. "Oh, cool!" Finn exclaimed.
"Now, if you don't get back to Earth, you'll sever your ties to the world of the living and be stuck here for eternity." Yara says as she waves her hand opening the portal. "Wait, what?!" Finn said sharply as Yara gently pushed him towards the portal. "Off you go, Finn. No time to explain. Tell the rest of the gang that I said hi!" As Finn fell through the portal, his eyes snapped open and he jolted up as he breathed heavily. He looked around, only to see that he was back in his bedroom.
As he tried to calm down, one of Finn's brothers, Leslie, opened the door. "Rise and shine, Finnegan!" He said as Finn groaned. "You know I hate when you call me that." Finn said as he rubbed his eye. "When did you get here, anyway?" He asked Leslie. "A few hours ago." He answered. "Mom, wanted me to come wake you up. She said that we have a big Christmas shopping day planned. You know how she gets around this time of year." Leslie said as he rolled his eyes.
"Yeah, I'll get down there in a sec." Finn says as Leslie closes the bedroom door.
Finn's older twin brothers, Leslie and Lonnie, both followed in their father's footsteps and became professional football stars. Finn always hated that since he was the youngest, he was practically forced to do everything that his brothers did, including going to the same schools, doing the same sports, and the list just went on and on.
Everybody absolutely adored the Fitzgerald twins, but they never even batted an eyelash at the youngest. With strangers, he didn't care how people viewed him and the talented twin duo. The problem was really his father, Frederick "Fred" Fitzgerald. When the twins weren't here, all that Fred would talk to Finn about was football. That was all he ever cared about. It was never about what Shakespeare sonnets and plays that he liked or what his favorite songs, or cartoons were. Other than that, his dad was mostly gone on business trips or visiting the twins and their happy families.
Finn's mother, Lucy Fitzgerald, was in love with Finn from the first time they look at one another in the delivery room. Finn was more like her, always keeping to himself when Fred or the twins were around. Lucy could always tell what Finn was thinking just by looking at him. If anything, they were probably a better dynamic duo than Leslie and Lonnie.
Finn gets up from his bed and he hears something hit the floor. He lifts his foot, only to find the same gold ring that Yara gave him in his "dream". He quickly picks it up as he heads to the bathroom.
He shuts the door and examines the ring, holding it up closer to see the writing and attempts to read it. "Yara elegit."
The ring began to burn hot beneath his fingers. Finn hissed in pain, as he let go of the ring, letting hit the floor. He held his hand, as it began to shake in pain. Someone began to knock on the bathroom door. "What?!" Finn said sharply as he tried to endure the pain. "Lonnie needs to wash his hands." Leslie stated from the other side of the door. "Well, tell Lonnie to go wash his hands in the kitchen sink!" Finn said as he gritted his teeth. "Lonnie said to get out of the bathroom." Leslie said a few seconds later.
Finn turned on the faucet and ran cold water on his fingers. He winced in pain. "Well, you can tell Lonnie to buzz off!" Finn said angrily. Lonnie quickly opens the door. "Dude, come on, please!" He begs Finn. Lonnie looks down at Finn's burned fingers.
"Whoa, Finn. Are you okay?" He said in concern. "Yeah, just give me a second, then you can have the bathroom." Finn stated.
Lonnie closed the bathroom door and Finn turned off the faucet and cautiously picked up the ring. "Okay, please don't cook my flesh again." He pleaded as he quickly snatched the ring up. He sighed in relief as the ring laid in his hand, not burning him again.
A few minutes pass and Finn meets Lucy in the kitchen. "Morning, Mom!" Finn says as he quickly pecks her cheek and sits down at the table, which is already loaded with breakfast food. "Good morning, sweetie." She says as she finishes up.
"Wow, Mom! You cooked all of this?!" Lonnie says as he comes in and immediately sits down at the table. "Of course! We have a busy day today, so dig in!" Lucy says as she sits down. "Where's Les and Dad?" Finn asked. "They're in the attic, searching for the Christmas decorations." Lucy said. "Or at least what we have left of the Christmas decorations." Leslie chuckles. "You guys always manage to lose or break something every year." Finn comments with a sigh. Lucy and Finn both turn to Lonnie.
"Hey, don't look at me! Leslie automatically takes 50 percent of the blame, anyway!" Lonnie says. "Maybe if you stopped play fighting in the living room, we wouldn't have to spend money on the same decorations every year." Lucy suggested. "Sorry, Mom." Lonnie says as bows his head in defeat.
"Oh, Finn! Is Drake coming today?" Lonnie asked with a smile. "Of course he is! He's done Christmas shopping with us ever since we became best friends. He wouldn't miss this for world." Finn replies. "I'm glad you two finally made up. We took a huge hit as a family, because you two broke up." Lonnie states dramatically. "Okay, we didn't "break up"." Finn said with a chuckle. "Um, yeah, you did! You were depressed for two whole weeks! I definitely call that a break up." Lonnie says.
"By the way, how are you holding up after Marie?" Lucy asked in concern. "Mom, like I told you, I'm fine." Finn said as he patted her arm. As Lonnie started to speak, Leslie and Fred, entered the kitchen and sat at the table.
"To be honest, I'm glad Marie's out of the picture. You two were just on completely different wavelengths." Lonnie admitted. "It's good to finally hear how you guys really think about her." Finn says. "Finn, it's been months since you broke up with Marie. We have to find you a new girl!" Leslie stated in excitement. "Guys, stop. We are not playing Twin Matchmaker again." Finn protested in a panicked voice.
"I think Finn's better off, to be honest. Having a girlfriend might not be the best thing for your football career." Fred commented. "Oh, come on, Pops." Leslie said. "Yeah, you let us have girlfriends while we played college football. Let him have his fun!" Lonnie agreed as he took a bite of his food. "If you say so, Lonnie." Fred sighed.
"In my opinion, Finn is doing much better than Lon and I ever did in college. He's a star player AND a star student." Leslie complimented Finn as he smiled. "Thanks, man." Finn said. "I'm just speaking the truth, little bro." Leslie said with a wink.
"Okay boys, it's time to get ready. We gotta leave in about an hour and meet Drake at Prancer's Palace before it gets crowded." Lucy announced as she stood from the table and started to collect everyone's plates.
Finn finished his food, immediately got up and started to help his mother gather all the dirty dishes. "Oh, Finn. You don't have to help me." She said as she grabbed his arm. "It's okay, mom. Besides, you'd be in here all day, if you cleaned all of this by yourself." He said with chuckle. "You always help me out. Why not get one of your brothers to do it for a change?" Lucy asked as she started washing the dishes.
"You and I both know that they're not going to do right." Finn answered as he rolled his eyes. "I guess you're right." Lucy sighed. The moment passed and neither of them said much as they busily cleaned. Finally, Lucy broke the silence, bringing up an unexpected, but dreadful topic .
"So, Marie's mother and I were chatting on the phone last night, after we brought you home." She began. "What did she say?" Finn casually asked, but he was becoming more nervous as he waited for his mom to answer. "Well, we talked about usual stuff like the book club and our families. But, she did ask about the annual Christmas party next week." She added.
Finn knew exactly where she was going with this. Every Christmas, the family throws a big party before Fred goes on his business trip the next day. You can invite anyone you'd like, but since Marie's mother, Daphne, is in Lucy's book club, she automatically gets an invite, which causes her to bring her entire family, especially Marie.
This was bad, really bad. With this break, Finn had finally gotten away from Marie. She hadn't shown up on his doorstep, or called the house. He thought he was home free. But, this party might ruin all of that. Just imagining her, in her favorite black dress, laughing and chatting to guests, while subtly giving him the stare-down of a lifetime as she casually passed by him.
It made him feel enraged and disgusted. She cheated on him, and she gets to roam around freely at his family's party. Why he is getting punished for breaking up with a possessive, manipulative, cheating control freak?! But still, if Finn said not to invite her, Daphne, and especially his mom wouldn't be happy.
"You can still invite Daphne and her family. Besides, I'll probably just be hanging out with Drake the whole time." Finn said with a shrug. "That's very mature, sweetie!" Lucy said proudly. "Now go get dressed. I'll finish up the rest. It won't take me long." She stated. "Okay, see you in a few." Finn says as he runs back up to his bedroom and shuts the door.
"Oh god, what am I gonna do?!"
