11.

Theo stood outside the door when I dropped everything off, I refused to let him in the apartment even though Jordan wasn't home. He hadn't earned the right to see it yet.
"So I was thinking," he said right as I walked out the door. "we should go mini golfing."
"What? Why?"
"I don't know. Wouldn't it be fun?" I studied him, he was serious.
"Uhm, or we can go laser tagging." Theo's lip pushed out in a pout.
"That's such a good idea, why didn't I think of that?" I laughed at him. "Are we on a team or against each other?"
"Well see when we get there. Keep up what you've been doing today and you'll be on the opposite team." He smiled, he gave a true smile. It was goofy looking on him. Theo had the cool and mystery vibe, his true smile didn't match that. He smiled so widely it looked juvenile. It was attractive compared to his devilish smirks.

Scholar, Colorado was a college town, hence how it got its name. That meant bars and fun things to do thrived here. There was a lot of arcades and game rooms around. One time, when Jordan and I got really mad at each other, we went laser tagging. We had so much fun and laughed together afterwards.

We pulled into the parking lot, due to it being midday on a Sunday, they were pretty full. When we went in the game room was filled with people are age. The laser tag was in the back. It smelled like fake nacho cheese and stale soap.

At the counter in the back stood an employee about our age. We handed over our drivers licenses so he can make a copy while we filled out the waiver. We exchanged back. He typed everything up, Theo paid.
"So, do you want to play with each other or against?"
"Together." He said at the same time I said;
"Against." Theo looked at me.
"I guess we are playing against each other." The guy behind the counter looked between the two of for a moment.
"Uh, alright." He looked at one of the sheets. "Devin, you'll be red and," he looked at the other. "Theo, you'll be blue." I smiled and walked to the red team. Another employee helped me get into the vest. He tightened the strap.
"Feel okay?" Our eyes met, I could see him swallow.
"Yeah." I croaked. He smiled a little.
"Alright then, well. Uh," He paused, why? Then it registered he was looking for my name.
"Devin." I said awkwardly delayed.
"Well you all set, Devin." He smiled bigger.
"Uh, thanks?" I sat down next to another girl from my team.
"Don't get to flattered," the girl next to me leaned over. "he flirts with every girl." She said crossly. My cheeks felt pink. I was staring because he was attractive, not because I was interested.
"Oh," I giggled nervously. "I was just looking."
"Boyfriend?"
"Well, no."
"Then why would you just look at a guy like him?" I laughed again. I looked across the room at Theo who was already staring at me hotly. "Oh, he's gorgeous." She whispered. The longer we stared, the softer his face got. "So make the first move on him, don't wait around for him." I looked at the girl next to me, stunned.
"Wait, what? No." I shook my head. "No, he makes me hang out with him. We attempting to be friends." She laughed.
"What do you mean, attempting."
"Well, we've never exchanged numbers or really set up a proper hang out. Thus far it's always been him randomly finding me and not leaving me alone until I say yes." She raised her brows.
"All that just to try and be friends?" I laughed nervously again.
"Well-"
"Alright people, here's how the game works." My attention was pulled to the employee. He explained to us how to play. My heart was racing.

The red and blue teams enter in two different locations. It was dark everywhere. Black lights and dim wall lights was all there was. Adrenaline pumped through my veins.
"Ladies and gentleman," a voice came over the loud speaker. "Let the games begin!" Techno music replaces his voice in the room. My team and I were in a sprint.

The layout goes like this; in all for corners of the room are watch towers, there was a connection between two of the towers. It was a mix between stairs and hide out boxes. I hid in the hide out box. My back was on the wall so I could shoot out the door and out the window. I got a lot of people coming in the door, a few the window.

It was quiet near me. I could see around me, most of people were on the other side of the field. A saw a blue vest circling towards me. I smiled, Theo. I lined up my laser to shoot him when he got close enough. He got close enough and I shot him. His vest blinked blue. His gun dropped and looked around, our eyes met. I bit my lip holding back my smile and waved. He stood up and looked around. Theo darted to the side. Another blue player came into view, I shot him too. He looked up at me and stormed off. Heavy footsteps came from the hall leading to the door. I had my laser aimed and shot the blue vest when they entered.
"You've gotta be shitting me, twice?" It was Theo. I giggled.
"What?"
"Make you a deal," His vest came back to life, his wounded time was over. "We both stay here and shot the opposite team but not each other."
"Isn't that fraternizing with the enemy?" He looked at me unamused with his brows raised. "Fine, we can do that." I pointed my laser at him again and shot him. "That's for making me hang out with you so much." He chuckled.
"I can take that."

The rest of the 15 minutes when by quickly. Theo and I made a pretty decent hit man team. The break down of the scores between the two teams was on a big screen mounted to the wall. Theo and I stood shoulder to shoulder. Red won by a land slide.
"What vest number were you?"
"12."
"Jesus, Dev. You didn't get shot once. And look how many times you hit people!" He pointed up to my vests statistics.
"That's the benefit of having a good hide out."
"Okay, next time we are on the same team." We headed out to the parking lot. I laughed.
"Who said there would be a next time?" Theo eyed me but said nothing.

We got in the car and he drove us to a near by bar. It was a sports bar. Jerseys and helmets from a dozen different teams hung on the walls. We got a high table in the back. Most of the people in a sports bar on a Sunday afternoon are quite bland. They are just there for the sports games and alcohol. Occasionally we'd here cheering for a sports team, other than that it was dull.
"So how'd you get so good at laser tag?" He leaned on the table and took a sip of his soda.
"I'm not good, I'm strategic. I could keep shooting people because my vest was never being shot, because I was hiding."
"Well I'm impressed." I smiled a little. Pride bubbled up in me.
"Hey kiddo." A taller man came to the table. Theo smiled smoothly. "See you've finally brought a date." The man looked at me. He was older, older than my foster parents. His hair was a salt and pepper mess on top of his head.
"Oh it's not a date," I clarify quickly. "He owes me a victory meal. I kicked his ass at laser tag." I smiled and chopped down on my straw. The man smiled with amusement at Theo.
"Keep her around, I like her." Theo gave a sharp nod. After the man walked away, he explained.
"That's Donny, he's the owner. Nice guy."
"How do you know him?"
"I come in a lot." I nodded.
"So you've never brought anyone else here?" I was more asking about the girls but I decided to make it a blanket statement.
"Uh, no I guess not." He shrugged his shoulders trying to play it off. I was special.

While we ate Theo and I talked about sports. Well, Theo talked about sports, I daydreamed about Zac Efron. He was on a commercial, which is why he was stuck in my head. That and sports bore me. After our mid afternoon lunch/dinner, we got back in the car.
"So now what?" I checked the time on the dash. Jordan would be getting done with work soon.
"Uh, I need to get back." I said awkwardly. Parting was always the worst for me. To have to willing tell him I need to go home makes me feel guilty.
"Alright." The engine roared to life. The sun was setting outside my window. I pressed my forehead against the cold glass and watched the sky change colors.
