Isabel laid in her bed, staring out the big window where a tree stood. It's branches bare, the colorful leaves had been gone for almost a month. It had also been about a month since Isabel had become engaged to George.

Desperately the two had been trying to talk but either Isabel's Mother or Mrs. Maddox coincidentally appeared, needing their full attention. It was near impossible to be alone with their Mother's breathing down their neck.

Isabel held up her hand in the dark, the moonlight catching the large diamond that felt foreign on her hand. Sighing, Isabel lowered her arm before rolling back on her side practically jumping out her skin when she saw someone in her tree.

Squinting her eyes, Isabel realized it was George so quickly she ran over to the window. Ignoring the sting of the cold air, seeping through her nightgown as if it were not there.

Isabel unlocked the window, swinging it open and holding it so the wind didn't send it flying into George who shivered as he got into Isabel's bedroom. Isabel quickly closed the window, latching the lock.

"What are you doing here?" Isabel hissed in the dark, wrapping her arms around herself in an attempt to warm herself.

"Well I figured we needed to talk considering in three weeks you're going to be my wife," George sarcastically stated, sitting down in a chair.

"It's not happening, George. We're not getting married," Isabel sighed, running a hand through her wavy hair.

Both the bride and groom to be were exhausted, the dark circles underneath their eyes gave them away and both sounded tired.

"Well how do you plan to not doing that? Without being disowned?" George asked, not wanting to marry either.

"That's the thing, i'm going to be disowned," Isabel explained, realizing how crazy she sounded now that she was telling someone.

"What? How will you survive?" George asked, the concept of real work foreign to the privileged young man.

"I have a plan," Isabel lied, "We will go along with everything but you will be alone at the alter,"

"That is humiliating!" George gasped until Isabel hushed him, placing her hand over his mouth.

"Shut up, would you rather be shackled to me for the rest of your life? You play victim for a few months and then you move on," Isabel whispered, not moving her hand from his mouth.

"Fine," George finally said when Isabel removed her hand.

"Good, now leave. I'm tired," Isabel said, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders as she opened the window.

Unaware of her brother listening on the other side of the door.

Three weeks later

"You look perfect!" Mrs. Maddox squealed as she walked into Isabel's bedroom where maids added the finishing touches to the bride.

"Thank you, Mrs. Maddox," Isabel smiled, ignoring the guilt pooling in her stomach.

"Please, we're going to be family. Call me Genevieve," Mrs. Maddox smiled, taking Isabel's hands and squeezing them.

A light knock on the door made Isabel look up to see her brother standing their with an unreadable expression on his face.

"I will go see that everything is ready," Mrs. Maddox explained, leaving the siblings and closing the door behind her.

"You look....beautiful," Jason said after a moment, Isabel looked in the mirror and couldn't help but agree.

Her pale skin perfectly matched the white of the dress, her golden hair was neatly styled to one side with a white headpiece and veil. Her green eyes were decorated with pale colors but her lips painted blood red.

A necklace of pearls decorated her decolletage and a small train on her dress perfectly elongated her body.

"I know what you're planning," Jason blurted out, Isabel couldn't help but let her cold exterior falter for a moment.

"What are you talking about?" Isabel feigned innocent, adjusting the veil over her face that fell to mid thigh in the front and in the back had a small train.

"You're running away, I hear you and George speaking of it a few weeks ago. I hoped you had gained some common sense when you allowed that ring on your finger but you obviously have not," Jason said, running a hand over his face.

"Jason, I cannot marry him," Isabel said, her voice breaking and tears welling in her eyes.

"Why not?" Jason practically yelled, slamming his hand onto a table making Isabel jump.

"I don't love him," Isabel cried, a single tear falling down her cheek.

"Love has nothing to do with a marriage for people like us. You told me that when I was engaged to Alexei," Jason said in a more controlled tone.

"You didn't marry her! I am going have shackles on me for the rest of my life if I marry George," Isabel said, a choked sob shaking her body.

"I'm sorry but you have to do this for the good of the family," Jason said before turning and opening the door.

"What family?" Isabel quietly said, knowing Jason heard when he stopped in his tracks before leaving.

"I will not be a prisoner, I refuse to be weak," Isabel said to herself, staring at herself in the mirror before roughly wiping away her tears.

Screaming. That's all that Isabel heard, her vision blocked with distorted black images. Her arms ached and no matter how desperately she tried, she couldn't see.

"...Isabel...Isabel," the voice faded in and out, Isabel knew it was Jason but she couldn't quite hold onto his voice.

"What did you do?" she heard Jason say as she opened her green eyes, tears were in Jason's eyes and his once white shirt was stained with blood.

"What? Whats going on?" Isabel asked, looking him over for injuries.

"Look for yourself," Jason said, looking around the forest in horror.

Isabel sat up, holding her head and her once beautiful wedding venue in the forest behind her home was now decorated with blood of witches.

A choked gasp left Isabel's lips as she stared at everything, screams and sobs of grief were all that could be heard.

"Who did this to us?" Isabel asked, tears running down her cheeks. Jason avoided Isabel's eyes before helping her to her feet.

"We need to go," Jason said with determination, navigating around the dozens of bodies.

A nauseating feeling pooled in Isabel's stomach.
