Chapter 9: New Target (Rewritten)
It was very early in the morning. The sun has just risen as everyone's day began. The air was a bit chilly, but not too much that people would be freezing without a jacket. Birds were chirping and began to hunt for food.
No one's POV
Down below, a certain man was walking in an alleyway. His hands were in his pockets as he was minding his own business.
When he reached just about halfway through the alleyway, he suddenly stops walking after passing a trash bin. He looks over his shoulder and saw a man leaning against the building's wall, who wasn't there previously. The man had one foot resting against the wall as his arms were folded.
"You needed something, Boss?" The man with red eyes asks with a grin.
The blonde nods as he turns to face the man. "I wouldn't have called you to meet all the way out here if I didn't." He replies with a soft smile.
"Yeah, yeah, I know." The man lets out a giggle. "What's up?"
"..." Instead of saying anything, the blonde, or "Boss", quickly tosses something out of his pocket to the other's face. The latter catches it between two fingers as it was a mere centimeter away from his cheek.
"???" Man cocks an eyebrow under his glasses. He noticed it was a piece of paper. Curiously, he flips the paper over and saw-. "Who's this kid?" He asks as his eyes were glued to the paper.
"Someone who's...caught my interest..." The Boss replies. On the photo was none other than y/n when he defeated those thugs in that alleyway a few days ago. "I need you to find him and keep an eye on him for a while."
"Seriously?" The black haired man asks as he lifts his head, his eyes glued on the Boss. "What makes him so special?"
"He has an interesting Gift. When Emily first found him, he was with Jonathan and his goons. He single handily took care of all except for one, which Emily had to interfere with."
"So?" The man gave the Boss a puzzled look. "They were just a bunch of nobodies. I could've taken them all out if you just let-."
"At first Emily thought his Gift was just flames." The Boss said. "But, some thing helped him."
"..." The man had an unreadable look.
"He didn't look strong enough, but he managed to kill several of them and gave the rest permanent internal damage with just his bare hands. I want to find out how he did that."
"..." The two didn't say anything for a bit. They just stared into each other's eyes as the sun continued to rise. But, after a moment, the man chuckles as he looks down and closes his eyes. "Fine. You're the boss after all." He says with a shrug.
"Thanks." The Boss says.
"It's whatever." The man pushes himself off the wall and turns to walk away, waving the picture around. "I'll give you something in a day or two."
"Understood. Just don't make any contact with him, got it?"
"?!" The stops walking, as if being stabbed in the back. He slouches before turning to the Boss. "Whaaat???" He whines. "Come on-!"
"We can't let him catch on that we're onto him. If he finds out, we'll most likely loose him."
The man groans in annoyance. "You're no fun!"
"This job isn't supposed to be, Alex." The Boss replies, folding his arms. "This is something I want done correctly."
"Whatever..." The man mutters as he turns around and walks out. "Never seen you act like this before..." He mutters while scratching his hair.
"..." The Boss sighs. He blinked for a brief moment and when he reopened his eyes, Alex was gone. "You don't understand who he is..." mutters before turning and walks the opposite direction Alex went.
Time skip
It's currently the present. A sinister grin grows on the man's, Alex's lips. His crimson red eyes studies y/n's movements as the latter was cautiously walking. Alex couldn't help but chuckle a little seeing y/n so nervous.
"You're an interesting fellow..." He mutters. "I can sense a lot of anger in you..."
As a civilian walks by him, they could barley hear him mutter the second sentence. They stare at him with a confused look, but eventually shrug it off. Alex however, didn't even notice them. He just kept watching y/n from under his glasses before cackling quietly.
"I wonder what's your breaking point is..." The man's eyes shimmer a little as he licks his lips creepily.
Meanwhile...
Back inside the abandoned warehouse, two people were sitting on a few crates. The girl was sitting on a higher crate than the other. She was concentrating on reading a math textbook in her lap as the other was writing something in his notebook on the smaller crate next to her.
However, the make's face scrunches up while reading the notes in his notebook, running his fingers through his hair and groans in annoyance. "This is so borinnnng!" He whines as he rests the back of his head on the crate behind him.
"..." The girl doesn't respond. She was either too busy reading her textbook to pay attention to the pink-haired boy or just simply ignoring him.
The boy noticed her being silent. He frowns as he pouts. "Emilyyyy!" He whines as he folds his arms.
"..."
The boy lets out a long, dramatic sigh. This caught the girl's, Emily's, attention as she burrows her brows and grits her teeth, but still focuses on her studying.
"Emil-!"
The boy's words were cut off when a small purple sword made of glass that was the size of a knife was summoned out of nowhere and next to the boy's nose. The boy screams in panic as he jumps back and accidentally falls off his crate, falling on his back onto the ground. He grunts a little and groans softly. "Ow..."
"You seriously need to learn when to shut up, David." Emily says with an annoyed tone as she looks up from her book to him, her mini sword still in the air.
"S-sorry, Emily..." The boy, David, apologizes. "I just don't understand how to do this..." He says, lifting his notebook into the air and points at it. He doesn't bother to move as he continues to lay on the ground.
"What do you mean?! Ms. Sapphire already explained it to us a million times in class!"
"Hey! Math isn't my strong suit, nor is anything else." David says as he rests his arms on the floor.
Emily's eyebrow twitches in annoyance as she stares at the boy. She growls in anger before she started to scold him. "Well maybe you should start taking your medicine more often for your ADD!"
"But I don't wanna...!" David whines like a child.
...
Their arguing could be heard across the warehouse. At the other side, two other people were inside a room, which muffled the noises outside. The room was mostly dark except for the light coming from a window and a computer's bright screen that was sitting on a desk. A pale man sat at the desk as the other stood beside him, both staring at the screen.
The pale man lets out a heavy sigh as he rubs his face in his palm. "They're at it again." He says, irritated, in his soft voice.
The other shrugs as he doesn't take his eyes off the screen. "Yeah. But did you honestly think that wouldn't happen?" He asks.
The pale man with red eyes simply shrugs as he leans back in his chair. "Well, if they don't shut up, I'll have to freeze them again." He says flatly.
"I would rather you not, Zane." The other says as he folds his arms. "It was difficult to get them out last time, so I don't want to spend hours trying to break them out again.
The pale man, Zane, scoffs, as he rests his arms behind his head. "Tch. Whatever." He mutters as he starts to close his eyes. "Jackson should've returned by now. I got the information he needs to find our next traitor."
"True, but I'm sure he's doing something important as usual. Either that, or he's babysitting Alex again."
Zane simply shrugs his shoulders as he starts to fall asleep. The other sighs in defeat as he rests his forehead in his hand. "Jeez..." He mutters before looking at the screen and studies some kind of wanted profile. When he was done, he turns around and steps out of the room. When he did, the two's argument was heard louder for a moment before muffling again from the door being closed.
'What is Jackson even up to...?' The man thought as he walks towards the other two.
