Chapter 6: Restarting Life
No one's POV
Y/n was walking through the city, hands in pockets. He had an emotionless expression on his face as he looks around the stores he pass by.
'What the hell?' He thought. 'Why can't I find a single store that needs hiring?'
It's been a few days since y/n first came into town. Ever since that day he's been busy either helping unpack everything into his family's new home or walking aimlessly in the city to find work. He's managed to unpack everything with Inferno's help, but hasn't has any luck with finding a job.
'Good grief...' He thought.
Y/n's POV
I've been walking for about three hours today. All I've done is walk aimlessly to find a decent job to start working at. Though unfortunately I haven't found anything, pissing me off. Does this city seriously have no place to work at?
I sigh. Being frustrated won't help me find any work. In fact, it'll probably make me blinded and miss something. So, I need to relax a bit.
"Just stop by whenever on Saturday and we can start working. And maybe I can find a way to repay you when we're done." The woman's voice from a few days ago echos in my mind as her beautiful face flashes in my head.
"..." I shake my head. Thinking about her like a pervert won't help me relax.
Last I saw her was Monday. It's been two days since then, and she said she wanted help on Saturday. So, that gives me a few more days to find a place to work at.
'I still can't believe I instinctively agreed to help...'
I stop walking. I look to my left and saw a convenient story next to me. I was about to keep walking when I heard my stomach growl.
'Damnit...forgot to eat lunch...But...I guess taking a moment to grab something to eat and drink won't hurt...'
I turn and head for the door. As I was about to step inside however, I catch something in the corner of my eyes.
"Huh...?" I turn my head to my left and saw an empty sidewalk. "..." I look around the place to see if I might spot something unusual, but found nothing. 'Strange...I could of sworn I saw...'
The sound of my stomach growling louder broke me out of my thoughts. I look down before shrugging, thinking it must have been my imagination. I turn back to the store and walk in. I walk pass the cashier and begun to walk around the store for a bit and try to find something cheap but good to eat. There's bags of chips, donuts for a dollar each, candy, etc. Some of them sound pretty good, but I try not to eat as much junk food as I can. So I circled the store's stuff for a bit.
Eventually, I decided to grab a frozen sandwich and a water bottle. Not much of a soda person and I don't drink alcohol, so picking out a water bottle was easy. I walk to the cashier and placed my lunch on the counter before fishing through my wallet to find the right amount of cash. However, when I was going to give him my money, I noticed a sign on the counter saying they're hiring. I gave the man my money before nodding to the sign.
"You need someone to hire?" I ask, hoping he says yes.
"Depends." The man folds his arms with a doubtful look. "You got any powers, kid?"
I nod. I brought my right hand up and summon flames on it. The man studies my flame before to me from head to toe, making me start to nervously sweat. Was this a trick question? But before I could ask however, the man slowly turn his eyes to mine.
"That's it?" He asks, as if unimpressed.
"I can summon more on my feet and other hand too. Plus I can manipulate fire that isn't mine."
"..." The man gave me an unreadable look. I could feel my anxiety grow, but he eventually shrugs while giving me a "whatever" look. "Come back in five days and I'll see about interviewing you, kid."
I can feel a smile growing on my lips as I deactivate my flames. "Thanks."
"Don't thank me just yet." The man says as he turns around to grab a box. "We'll see if you can get the job in a few days."
I nod. "Right."
With that, I grab my lunch and head out. I took a quick glance over my shoulder and saw him taking the box somewhere in the store.
'Maybe it's for security...' I thought.
Most people that ask if someone has a power or not first before anything else tend to need some kind of power to either deal with tough situations that non-power people can't handle, or for security because they get robbed often.
"..."
Meanwhile...
No one's POV
As y/n walks out of the connivence store, at the far end of the store, the sound of a door opening could be heard. A restroom door opens and walks out a certain woman.
When she got out of the restroom, she saw y/n stepping out of the store.
"Huh?" She mutters. At first she didn't care about who y/n was. However, she quickly recognizes him and remembers driving pass him a few days ago. "It's that kid again..." She whispers. Her face turns a light shade of red. She slowly remembers what she said about him as she was in her car. "..."
Meanwhile...
Y/n was walking down the sidewalk. He was about to go find a bench to sit and eat at, but heard something like someone in high-heels running behind him.
"H-hey, kid!" A feminine voice shouts behind him.
"???" Y/n stops running. He looks over his shoulder and saw the woman he dreamed about running towards him. "?!" His eyes widen in confusion, surprised to see her here. 'W-What the-?!'
He noticed that as she continued to run, her breasts would jiggle up and down. He could feel his face turning red, so he hid his eyes behind his hair to avoid staring.
Eventually the woman caught up to y/n, who still hid his eyes behind his hair. The woman bends a little in front of him as she catches her breath, not used to running that quickly. She gave herself a minute or two to catch her breath, before straightening up and smiling awkwardly to y/n. Y/n couldn't help but notice that she was an inch or two taller than him.
"Yes?" Y/n asks, trying to keep his composure.
"Tell me...did you move into the city a few days ago?" The woman asks, still panting a little.
"..." Y/n slowly lifts his head up, giving her a confused look. He tilts his head a little as his face was now calm. "Excuse me?"
"I-I'm sorry if this was sudden, I really am. But I remember seeing you running to town a few days ago as I was leaving my sister's place. I've been at that neighborhood several times, I but don't recognize you. I was wondering if you were the new kid that moved that moved next to my sister's place."
"..." Y/n doesn't know what to say. He never expected to talk to this woman. Not only that, but-. "You said you saw me when you were leaving your sister's, correct?"
The woman nods.
"Then yes, I believe so."
"R-really?" The woman asks, both nervous yet excited. But she doesn't know why. And to be perfectly honest, she doesn't know what she's doing right now. Why did she decide to run after this kid? What made her do this? She doesn't have a clue.
The woman felt her breath steady. She shook her head and relaxes, before putting on a smile. She puts a hand out to shake with y/n. "I'm Victoria."
"..." Y/n stares at her hand, anxious. He remembers his mother bringing up Their neighbor's sister named Victoria once or twice, so she was right about him being her sister's neighbor. Though he pushes his feelings to the side and shook her soft, warm hands. Almost instantly he loved the feeling of touching her hand. "Y-y/n..."
The two let go. Victoria was a bit surprised how strong his grip was, but doesn't bring it up. She slowly turns around and gave him a friendly wave.
"I guess I'll see you later..."
"..." Y/n doesn't say anything.
With that, Victoria walks away. As she did y/n stares at her, his eyes slowly traveling to her-.
Y/n slaps himself. "Dumbass..." He mutters to himself. Though he eventually calms down and looks at his hand that he shook Victoria's hand with. He remembers how soft she felt. 'What the hell was that...?' He thought before turning around and walking away. 'That was...weird...'
Meanwhile...
'What the hell did you just do?!' Victoria thought to herself. Her face was red as she felt her heart accelerating. 'That was stupid of you!' She growls, sprint walking. Her mind was going a million miles per hour. She's trying to figure out why she just talked to y/n. She doesn't do stuff like that to others. So why him?
She tried her best to come up with a decent answer. But all she could think of was one thing, and she kept denying it:
She thought he looked handsome.
Meanwhile...
Near the entrance of an alleyway, two people stood in the shadows. One was the girl who spied on y/n a few days ago, and another was a man with black and white hair.
The man simply leans on the wall, with annoyed look on his face. His hands were shoved in his pockets as he stares at the girl in front of him, who peeks her head out of the alleyway to spy on an unsuspecting y/n.
"How much longer do we have to spy on this kid?" The man asks, his voice was quiet and soft, but filled with irritation.
"..." The girl leans back to the alleyway and glares at the man as she folds her arms. "Will you stop complaining already, Zane?" The girl questions sternly and quietly so she couldn't be heard from others possibly walking by. "I thought that was supposed to be my job."
The man, Zane, shrugs. "Whatever...I still don't see why I needed to be dragged into this."
"Because your powers can negate his if something went wrong. We-."
"He simply can summon fire on his hands, big deal." Zane replies sarcastically, causing the girl to scowl at him. "My ice should not be waisted on an idiot like him."
The girl lowers her arms and rests one of her palms on her hip. "He managed to take out Jim and his goons by himself."
"Almost, Emily. You took care of the last one when he showed weakness. If I were you, I would've let him die instead of helping."
The girl, Emily, growls in frustration. "You can be a real asshole sometimes, you know that?"
Zane gave her a side glance. "Do I really look like the type of person who cares about others' opinions about myself?"
"..."
Zane sighs while rubbing the back of his neck. "I'm heading back." He says as he got off the wall and walks into the alleyway. "This kind of job isn't our specialty, you know? Maybe have Kai deal with-."
"Are you crazy?!" Emily shouts, not caring if others hear her. This causes Zane to stop walking and glance at her over his shoulder. "Kai would just confront him and piss him off! We can't have a potential fight with someone we don't know if they're an alley or a threat!"
"So? Why do you care about him so much? You have a crush on him or something?"
"Of course not, dumbass! The boss seems to be interested in him, so I want to find out why!"
"Uh-huh...sure..." Zane mutters before looking back to the alleyway. "Whatever lets you sleep at night..."
With that, Zane walks into the darkness. He heard Emily yell for him to come back, but he ignores her. He yawns as he heads back to base.
"What does the boss see in him...?" He mutters before sighing. "...Whatever...Its not my problem to get myself into."
===To be continued==>
Jesus...this took me WAY longer to come up with than I originally wanted. Kept scraping ideas and decided to go with this. What do y'all think? Was it good or nah? Personally I'm mixed, so hearing your guys' opinions would be appreciated.
