Chapter 12: Walk & Talk

Last time...

At the entrance to the building, y/n saw none other than Yang and Ruby's mom, both smiling upon seeing the male, though Yang had a bigger smile.

"What are you doing here?" Yang asks as she walks over to him. Ruby's mom doesn't follow and instead goes inside the shop.

"..." Y/n had a blank look on his face as he stares at the teen next to him. '...you serious?' He thought to himself.

Now
No one's POV

"..." A nervous drop of sweat forms on the side of y/n's face as he stares at the blonde with a blank look.

"I'm surprised to find you here, y/n," Yang says as she folds her arms. "I didn't expect you to be a gardener type of person." She finishes with a short chuckle.

Y/n shrugs as he puts his hands in his pockets. "I promised to help out, and I keep my promises."

"Oh? You promised to help Wiz do what?" Yang gave him a curious look.

"Wiz?" He questions with a confused look.

Yang moves her mouth to say something but stops when the two heard Ava let out a gasp from the back of the building. The two turned in the direction and saw her and Ruby's mom hug, causing Yang to smile while y/n was even more confused.

"It's good to see you again, Summer!" Ava says, her voice filled with glee.

"Same to you!" Ruby's mom, Summer, says.

The two soon part from the hug and began to chat together. As they did, y/n turns his attention back to Yang, his face still filled with confusion.

"What's going on?" He asks, gaining Yang's attention.

"Oh! Summer is good friends with Wiz. She tends to visit whenever she's not working."

"Right... Then why are you here with her?"

"What? I can't spend time with my mom?" Yang asks while giving y/n an eyebrow.

"I didn't mean it like that," Y/n says instinctively.

Yang's eyebrow lowers as she smiles. "I'm just messing with you." She giggles while playfully pumping y/n's shoulder, whose face became flat from her reaction. "Lighten up, man." She teases.

"Maybe I would if-." Y/n was cut off when he heard Ava call his name. He looks over his shoulder and saw the two older women walk up to him with a small box wrapped in wrapping paper in her hands.

"Here it is." She says as she hands him the box.

"Thank you," Y/n says with a faint smile. He took the box and puts it in his pocket.

"Of course. Least I can do." Ava says with a giant smile on her face, making y/n blush a little.

"I-it's fine..." He mutters as he rubs the back of his neck.

As he did, Ava noticed that Yang was beside him and smiles at her. "Hi, Yang!" She says with a friendly smile.

"Hey, Wiz!" Yang says.

"Do you know each other?" Ava asks her as she glances between the two teens.

"Not exactly." Y/n tried to say but was cut off when Yang spoke up.

"We're actually childhood friends!" Yang says, receiving an annoyed look from y/n.

"Really? I didn't know that." Ava says with a surprised look on her face.

"He just moved back recently," Yang says, making y/n even more annoyed.

"I see."

Seeing as the conversation continues, y/n felt even more annoyed. He stopped listening in to the conversation as he curses in his head, wanting this to end. He was about to leave but stops when he felt Yang grab his arm.

"We're going to go walk and talk. Have fun!" Yang says to the two adults, causing y/n to look confused again.

Y/n was about to yell at her but stops when Yangs pulls him out of the store and down the walkway of the street. After walking for a moment, y/n yanks his arm away from her grip with a ticked-off look.

"The hell are you doing?" He asks sternly, growling a bit.

"What do you mean?" Yang asks as she folds her arm, giving him an unpleased look.

"Why are you acting like we're friends?"

"AREN'T we friends?" She asks, almost looking offended by his question.

Y/n gave her a serious look. "Maybe when we were kids. But it's been years since then. I hardly know you anymore." He says, folding his arms as well.

For a second, Yang looked hurt from his statement. However, that quickly disappears as she lets out a sigh. "Whatever... If that's what you think, then fine. But I did wanted to talk with you about something."

"Which is?" Y/n asks, not reacting to how hurt Yang looked a moment ago.

"School." Was all Yang said, causing y/n to raise an eyebrow. She motions him to follow as she began to walk, which y/n hesitantly follows. "You do know that you have my mom as your combat instructor, right?"

Y/n shrugs. "Haven't looked at my schedule in a minute."

"Okay, well, you do. And you actually have her the same time as I do."

"Okay. But I thought she worked at a restaurant or something?"

"That's Summer. She owns it and Ruby works there too. However, my mom works at the school as a combat instructor full-time. She and I help when it's needed, but mostly when school's out."

"Alright," Y/n says. "Was that all you had to tell me?"

Yang shook her head. "My mom can be strict with being late or causing her to waste time. So try to get to class early, alright?"

"What happens if I'm late?"

"She'll give you detention by cleaning the arena, no breaks."

Y/n looks a little caught off by her reply. "Seriously? Aren't arenas usually huge?"

"Yeah. You never been in one?"

Y/n shook his head. "The schools that I went to could never afford combat classes. Had to learn everything myself." He says.

"Really?" Yang asks, curiosity in her voice.

He nods. "Yeah. Had to move a lot. And unfortunately, we couldn't afford to move to anywhere that was as big as this city. Had to go with the cheapest prices." He explains.

"I see..." Yang mutters, giving him a sympathetic look.

The two continue to walk and talk for several minutes, mostly about school. The sun began to set in the distance, causing all the street lamps to turn on. They kept going until Yang felt her phone vibrate in her pocket, causing her to check it.

"I need to head back," Yang says as she puts her phone away.

"Alright," Y/n says. "Thanks...for the heads up, I guess..." He says hesitantly.

"Yeah. We can talk more at school if you want." Yang says with a soft smile, though her energetic tone wasn't there.

"I'll think about it," Y/n says as he turns to walk away.

Yang was about to as well but stops as she remembers something. "Oh, and one more thing." She says, causing y/n to turn back to her. "I forgot to mention that the famous Midnight is my mom's assistant."

Hearing the name, y/n looks surprised as he blushes a little from the name. "W-wait...THE Midnight?!"

"Yeah. Though, try not to drool over her like the rest of the boys." She says playfully, winking at him.

"..." Y/n couldn't help but blush a little more, becoming flustered. "L-like hell I would." He says though Yang didn't buy it.

"Sure. See ya." She says before turning around and jogs away, leaving a blushing y/n behind.

Time skip

It was late at night in the city. The moon shined brightly into the night sky as a soft gust of wind blew by.

Down below, none other than Raven Branwen was standing on a roof of a tall building, smoking a cigarette. She sat at the edge of the roof, staring down at the city below. She heard sirens off in the distance but kept in her thoughts, the moonlight reflecting off her beautiful red orbs. She inhales before exhaling, letting out smoke. As she did, another gentle breeze blew by.

Hearing something shuffle behind her, she took out her cigarette from her mouth, puts it out, and flicks it over the edge to the streets below. Then, she stood up.

"What did you need now, Jackson?" She asks, not bothering to turn to face the person with slight irritation in her voice.

"What? Can't I just see and chat with you, Raven?" A male asks with a slight tease, causing Raven to scowl a little.

"You know my rules." She says, finally turning to the man behind her.

Standing a few feet behind her, a young male stood. It was the same person that Alex called the "Boss".

"Yeah, I know. But I also know a lot more than that, remember?" He asks, causing Raven to glare at him a bit. "Hey, we both know I'm not here to threaten you or anything. I'm in no position to after all you've done." He says while putting his hands up.

"..." Raven lets out an irritated sigh before turning back to the city. "Just tell me what you want so we can get this over with." She asks as she folds her arms.

Jackson smiles a little as he walks over to her and stood at the edge of the building next to her, staring down at the city as well. "Tell me, has y/n really come back?" He asks, his tone becoming serious.

"..." Raven looks at him with an unintelligible look.

The two stayed quiet for some time. Raven was a bit hesitant to answer, as Jackson just kept his eyes on the city. Eventually, though, he smiles and chuckles softly.

"Don't worry, I don't plan on harming him in any way. And I won't let the others do so either." He explains as he looks at her.

"...And if he has...?" She asks, her tone unreadable.

"Nothing. Was just curious is all." Jackson says before sighing.

"Right..." Raven mutters. "If this was all you wanted, then we're done for tonight."

"Alright, alright. Just wanted to hear it from you personally."

"..."

Before Raven could say anything, Jackson took a step forward and fell from the edge of the roof, quickly. Raven doesn't bother to watch as she just scoffs and rolls her eyes. Then, she does so too. And after a moment, a raven was seen flying away into the night sky.

===To be continued==>

Hey, all. I deeply apologize for the late and short chapter. I have been super busy with life and was constantly procrastinating on this chapter. Plus I have been stuck working on a Demon Slayer concept idea for about a week. It's out now, but it's mainly just an experiment and I don't know if I'll work on it again.

I was unsatisfied with making this chapter for a long while, having to constantly throw away ideas. But, I eventually managed to find a decent idea to make. I promise the next couple of chapters won't take as long to make, as I do know what I want and am satisfied with them. And I am going to go back to my schedule too, hopefully.

However, due to having a long and stressful week, I am thinking of taking this weekend off from this app/website. So I probably won't update this story until next weekend. I do deeply apologize, but I just need some time to myself.

Anyways, I hope you all did enjoy the chapter. And I also hope you have a wonderful day/night. See ya.
