Chapter 11: Helping out
It has been a short while since y/n began to help out the woman as he promised. Since then, he's been helping move heavy boxes filled with flowers and other supplies from the back of the building to the inside. He had no problem with carrying them, most of them he could handle. Though, the tough part was keeping his hormones in check due to constantly remembering the fantasy he had earlier. And, he learned the woman's name; Ava Goodwin.
No one's POV
Y/n sets down another large box besides the rest of them in the back corner of the building. As he straightens up, the woman sets a smaller box next to his, having a faint smile on her lips.
"That should be all of them." The woman says as she smiles at y/n.
"Alright," Y/n says, smiling a little back. During all of this, y/n had a faint blush on his face, though it was barely noticeable. "What's next, Ms. Goodwin?" He asks as he folds his arms.
The woman, Ava, thought about it for a moment. She places a finger on her chin as she hums softly. Though, when she was done thinking, she smiles as she looks at y/n. "I need help placing the new flowers and seeds." She says.
"Seeds?" Y/n asks, giving a somewhat confused look.
"Mhm. We sell more than just flowers here. We also sell seeds for gardens and such." She explains.
"Oh." That was all y/n says before letting out a sheepish giggle. "Makes sense..." He mutters, his blush slightly darkening.
Ava giggles from seeing y/n's reaction. "Yeah."
Y/n smiles a little as he rubs the back of his neck nervously. "Where should we start then?"
"If you can start opening the smaller boxes, the seeds should be in those. I'll go see which we need to restock. Then, I'd like help with setting some flowers up. That should be it." She says politely.
"Works for me," Y/n says before starting to open the smaller boxes as she wanted.
"Wonderful," Ava says. She turns to walk to the other side of the room in silence to do her job.
As she did her own thing, y/n tried his best to focus on his job, but his eyes couldn't help but glance at her occasionally. Several minutes passed and he couldn't stop. He just couldn't help stare and admire her beauty, no matter how much he wanted to stop. A nervous drop of sweat forms on the side of his face as he continues to blush a little.
Feeling a bit awkward and wanting to try to shift his thoughts away, y/n clears his throat, gaining Ava's attention.
"Yes?" She asks with curiosity.
"Does your mom work here?" He asks as he glances around the place, noticing they were the only two in the shop.
"She used to own the shop. But due to getting older, she couldn't do as much anymore. So I had to take over and run the shop now." Ava explains.
"Oh..." Y/n mutters.
"How come you ask?" Ava asks as she walks over to y/n, who just shrugs.
"Just curious. I remembered you asked if she was bothering someone again, so I thought that she was around often."
"Oh. Well, she comes by now and then, and sometimes causes a ruckus. But other than that, she stays at home."
"I see..." Y/n mutters. "Doesn't she have any family that takes care of her other than you?"
"..." Ava's smile fades a bit from his question. She averts her gaze from him, a hint of sadness in her eyes for whatever reason. She looked a bit uncomfortable about the subject, which y/n noticed, and frowns a little.
"Forget I asked. I shouldn't intrude in your matters." He apologizes, feeling ashamed of himself.
"N-no, it's okay," Ava says, giving him an awkward smile. "You don't need to apologize."
"..." Y/n doesn't know what to say, afraid of making things worse. He just sighs softly and continues what he was doing prior.
With that, the two stayed silent as they continued to do as planned. During the entire time, the place was too quiet and awkward to y/n's liking. Even though he usually doesn't like talking to others, something about Ava made him behave differently than normal. He felt bad for bringing something up that the woman didn't want to answer, which he wished he didn't ask about at all. He tried to give her space to calm down as he tried to think about other things as he worked.
After about an hour or so, the two finished what was needed to be done. The two stood in the middle of the shop as y/n lets out a tired sigh.
"Thank you for helping," Ava says with a soft smile.
"No problem," Y/n says, who also has a soft smile. Even though he hasn't forgotten what happened prior, he could tell that Ava has calmed down, which he was grateful for. "Was that everything?"
Ava smiles a little more as she nods. "Yes. Usually, it takes me a day to do that on my own. But thanks to your help, it was done in a few hours."
"I'm glad I could've helped," Y/n says. "If I am ever nearby again, I don't mind helping again."
"That's very kind of you," Ava says, making y/n smile more.
"Of course." Y/n was about to turn away to leave but stops when he noticed a small group of flowers in a vase. He studies it for a moment before turning to Ava. "Are those white peony?" He asks whilst pointing at the flowers.
"Yes, how come?" She asks, tilting her head a little.
Y/n chuckles softly. "It's because my mother loves white peony." He says.
"Oh!" Ava looks surprised. "Think she'll want one?"
"I think so. If that's no problem-."
"Of course not. You can have it for free since you helped out."
Y/n moves his mouth to argue, but before he could Ava already grabbed one of the white peonies and went to the back of the shop to somewhere y/n couldn't see, leaving him alone in the shop. Seeing as he was left alone, he awkwardly waits and looks around the shop until she came back.
"Y/n?" He heard a familiar voice from behind.
"?" Confused by the voice, he turns around and looks both surprised and confused by who he saw enter the shop? "Yang?" He questions.
At the entrance to the building, y/n saw none other than Yang and Ruby's mom, both smiling upon seeing the male.
"What are you doing here?" Yang asks as she walks over to him.
"..." Y/n had a blank look on his face as he stares at the teen next to him. '...you serious?' He thought to himself.
===To be continued==>
Hey, guys. Sorry to call it short here. I know the ending was a bit abrupt and the pacing may be rushed, but Wattpad is being dumb as per usual. It's constantly crashing on my phone and erasing my progress. It's been at this for the past few hours and I'm not in the mood to continue for the rest of the day. So, I'm just going to release all of this for now and do the rest tomorrow. If you don't know, I have a temporary schedule for the next couple of weeks if you want to find out. But, that's all from me today. Again, apologies for making this so short and possibly rushed. See ya.
