Heart to Heart

Paula Jai Parker as Jairi Liu (jay•air•ree)

October 27, 2013

Donald woke up to the ringing of his telephone. He moved his girlfriends arm off his chest, and reached over to pick it up off his the nightstand. He sat up, looking at the caller ID and immediately answered it.

"Who is that?" Madonna whispered.

Donald waved her off then put his finger to his lips. "Wassup?" He said groggily.

"Hello, Don. I'm calling you to see if you were still coming to see see your daughter cheer?" Jairi asked the father of her child, Donald.

"Yeah, imma be able to come. For sure." Donald nodded, wiping the slime out of his eyes.

"Are you sure this time? I don't want her to be expecting you, just for you to break her heart."

Jairi wanted to be sure before she gave her daughter her final words.

"I said yeah. Damn." He chuckled.

Jairi chuckled. "Alright. See you there." She said about to hang up.

Donald cleared his throat. "Wait!"

Jairi put the phone back up to her ear. "Yeah?"

"What time-" Donald yawned. "What time is it?"

"Don't you got a clock?" Jairi chuckled.

Donald smacked his lips at her. "You know what I mean."

"Mmhm. Be there by 5:30. Alright?" Jairi raised her eyebrows.

"I got you. See you there." Donald told her.

"Mkay, bye! Don't disappoint."

"I won't." Donald replied to her, but Jairi had already hung up.

"Why is she calling so early?" Madonna asked him.

"It's not that early, we just slept in late." Donald laughed. "It's almost seven, baby." Donald said laying back in the bed.

Madonna rolled her eyes and fell back into the bed. Madonna turned to her side with a smile. Donald already knew what was about to go down once he saw her slide the blanket down her naked body.

Jairi and Donald met about fifteen years ago at a college party. Donald didn't attend college, but he was there because of JoJo, who is his best friend, invited him.  Jairi was attending med school at the time. She was a transfer student and didn't have to be at that specific college for too much longer.

At the party, Jairi and Donald met each other while they were drunk and high. They ended up sleeping together using no type of protection; a one night stand. That lead to Jairi being pregnant with their babygirl, Lanai. Jairi and Donald both tried to make it work for a good three years, but decided to call it quits.

Donald just couldn't stay faithful. He wasn't ready to settle down and Jairi got tired of it being a one-sided relationship. They were young and didn't know much about each other. They only tried to make it work for the simple fact that they had a child together.

Jairi's motherly instincts instantly kicked in when she found out that she was pregnant, because before her daughter, she was also wild. She was a sheltered kid, so when she FINALLY got away from her family she went crazy. She was messing up in college, but not too much where she couldn't bounce back.

After finding out she was pregnant, Jairi quickly straightened herself up. She knew she wanted to keep her child and that she had to find a way to take care of the both of them. She didn't stop her dreams of becoming a doctor, she didn't have to. Even though Donald was the WORST boyfriend Jairi has ever had, he was an excellent father. She and Donald were only nineteen years old at the time, and now they're both thirty-four with a fourteen year old daughter.

They're both doing GREAT at co-parenting. They don't argue and they're actually friends now. It took them almost two years after breaking up to be cordial. That means that their daughter had just turned five when things started to go well for the two parents and the child.

"Thank you, baby." Jairi kissed her husband on the lips after he handed her her breakfast that he made.

"Mmhm, you're welcome Mrs. Liu." Simu kissed her lips and handed her some coffee. "What'd he say?"

"He's coming." Jairi nodded.

"Good, because this is her first cheer of her high school career. It's important." Simu said to his wife.

Simu and Jairi have been married for four years now and together for six. Lanai came into the kitchen, saw them kissing and gagged. Jairi pulled away from her husband.

"Ahh, don't act like you've never seen people kiss." Simu chuckled.

"I do all the time. I just find it gross when you two do it!" Lanai said laughing. "Oh and I CAN'T forget about dad and what's her name." Her face scrunched up and her eyes rolled.

Lanai didn't like Madonna. It's not not really what she say to her. That micro aggressive behavior doesn't bother her much, it's more because of her actions. To Lanai, it seems as if Madonna seems jealous of her father when he spends time with his daughter. Lanai feels like her father's boyfriend fishes for his attention.

"Watch ye mouth." Jairi told her daughter, whilst chewing her food. "You have to hurry, so we can both be on time."

"I will." Lanai grabbed two slices of toast and fruit.

"Uhh... I cooked." Simu joked, knowing what her response would be.

"It's game day, Moo. I'm not trying to feel sluggish today." She said breaking a piece of her toast.

Simu mouthed all her words as she spoke them, causing all three of them to laugh. Lanai usually would eat all she could in the morning, but everything it's game day, she cuts down. She doesn't want to feel uncomfortable and sluggish while doing stunts, tumbles and whatnot.

"Right." Simu nodded at her. "Oh, and I may show up to the game a little late, but I WILL be there."

"Thanks, Moo." She smiled. "This is important and I'm still pretty nervous. This IS-"

"Your first game of high school." Simu finished her sentence.

"Could you PLEASE stop finishing my sentences?" Lanai rolled her eyes at him.

"I'm only doing what you've been doing since you made the team." Jairi chuckled.

"I'm just joking with you. I know how important this is to you." Simu said to his daughter.

Lanai loves Simu, but sometimes he could be a bit aggravating. Plus, she's a teenager and that's what they do while they're trying to get used to adolescence.

"Oh, shit!" Jairi said spilling the now warm coffee all over herself.

"Oh, wow." Simu said trying to help her clean it up.

"I'm definitely going to be late." Jairi got up from the stoop.

"No, you won't. Can't you just take me to school, Moo? Or I could even drive myself." Lanai wiggled her eyebrows at them.

"Uhh, I think not! Don't let your daddy letting you drive his car make you think you're going to drive mines." Jairi told her daughter getting paper towels.

"I got it, honey. I'll also take Nai to school, so you won't be late."

She kissed her daughter and her husband on the forehead. "Thanks! I love you both!" She ran upstairs to her bedroom closet to change into something else.

"I love you!" Lanai yelled up to her rushing mother and Simu to his wife.

Lanai ended up having to take the rest of her breakfast with her. Lanai let the dogs out into their backyard before they left. The dogs are her responsibility, she wanted them. She knows her mother doesn't have the time to care for dogs. Jairi barely has enough time to spend with her daughter, but THAT she makes times for no matter how tired she is. Simu and Lanai pulled up to the school and Lanai held out her hand. Simu looked at her confused, then high-fived her.

"No, no, no, no, no. I want cash. I don't have any for lunch." Lanai told him.

"You decided to wait until we made it ALL the way to the school to ask? What happened to your allowance that your father gave and we gave to you?" Simu asked her.

"It's gone." Lanai told him.

"That fast? That's $300 in a week?" Simu questioned. "What'd you spend it on?"

"Food." Lanai answered lowly.

"And what else? Bullshit?" Simu asked.

"Remember all the bags I came home with? I went shopping, dad."

"Is that why you wanted to ride with me? You knew your mother would rip a new one on you. You usually don't like to because the music I play."

Lanai sighed then opened her door. "Alright then. Bye." She said in a solemn tone.

Simu sighed, reaching fr his wallet. "Here you go." He handed her a twenty. "I hope this last for the day." He joked.

"Thanks, dad!" She cheesed, grabbing the money, then hugging him.

"You're welcome." Simu said changing the song to Dora's Backpack song.

"THIS is why I hate riding with you! You and daddy are almost alike." Lanai said slamming his car door shut then walking up to her school.

Simu let down all of the windows and changed the song to Dragon Tales. Lanai turned around, embarrassed. Her two friends came up to her, one was dancing his way to her. They both waved at Simu.

"You're welcome! Have a nice day! Love you!" Simu screamed over the music.

He chuckled, pulling off to go to work. He was going to be early, but he didn't mind. That reduces his risk of being late to support Lanai. Simu is a Software developer, so their little family is living comfortably. Actually, they're living OVER comfortably. They're doing well for themselves.

Donald pushed Madonna off his body, breathing heavily. "Shit." He sat up then went to the bathroom to pee.

After washing his hands, Donald turned on the shower and got in. He brushed his teeth as he showered, killing two birds with one stone. Madonna was about to join him in the shower, but Donald held the door shut.

"No, I'm tryna get clean AND I have to handle some of these bills. It's nearing the end of the month and I like to get shit done early. Since it's my off day..." Donald told her.

Donald really wasn't in the mood again for sex again. Madonna wanted to spend the day in bed because they're both off today. She and Donald have been together going on three years now. No breaks or anything.

His girlfriend and Jairi get a long just well... Okay, they force it. Madonna obviously doesn't like Jairi and Jairi just does that fake smile that Donald thinks is so hilarious when they're around each other. The two women got into it ONE time and that was due to something that occurred between Lanai and Madonna.

Jairi didn't want to send her daughter back to Donald's house for a while after that. The thing is that Lanai had never mentioned it to him when he was right in the house. He found out when Jairi came banging on his door late at night, and that's when Madonna was told off. Oh, don't think Donald was left out of the equation, because he was told off just as bad as Madonna. Lanai left Donald's house with her mother amused that specific night.

Simu and Donald are also alright. They had a rough little start, but Donald warmed up to him. As long as he wasn't hurting Lanai or Jairi, he was cool. There was one instance when Donald heard his daughter call Simu dad for the first time, but that wasn't on Simu. It's not like he forced her to do that. Lanai did it on her own terms. Donald is daddy/father and Simu is dad. The two men only speak when it's something to do with Lanai.

Donald did forget about his daughters cheerleading day, if Jairi hadn't called him, he would've definitely forgotten. He told his girlfriend to write in the calendar, but she must've forgotten too. Donald thought it was next month since he didn't see it in this months calendar. He's not into sports so he doesn't really know when football season starts and ends. He even forgot when it's ALL his daughter has been talking about for a WHILE now.

He STILL can't believe that he's the father of a high schooler now. He misses when his baby was a baby. Donald KNOWS that his daughter is beautiful and now he's got to worry about the boys. Donald and Jairi wants to prevent Lanai from having a child so young. They were young themselves when they had her. Nineteen is STILL too young to be having children.

"Okay, K-Ci!" Jairi complimented his voice. "I never knew you could sing." Jairi said going to the sink to wash her hands.

"Really? I sing all the damn time." K-Ci laughed, drying his hands.

"I've NEVER heard you." Jairi chuckled.

"Boss is going to ask you work overtime." K-Ci said putting on his gloves.

"He's going to get a HELL no from me! I already asked him to reduce my hours to under twelve. I gotta make it to my child's cheerleading event." Jairi replied. "Ready for this surgery?" She asked her team.

"Yup!" K-Ci told her.

"Girl no, but hey we got this." Doctor Bleu laughed.

"She the one doing most of the dirty work." K-Ci laughed and bumped his shoulder to hers.

K-Ci went through medical school with her. JoJo studied in the culinary field and he's a damn goo chef! K-Ci is good at what he does too. He keeps the team lively. They had two surgeries to complete today and the rest of the time, they're on different floors taking the places of other doctors that may show up late, or are too busy with other patients.

Later that's day, Donald ended up showing later than what he was told. He got there at 6:03 pm, instead of 5:30. Jairi was late as well. Donald spotted Simu, who was the only one there early looking around for Jairi most likely. Donald ran up to Simu.

"Damn, I been here for like thirty minutes looking for y'all." Donald laughed at his own lie.

"Jairi isn't here yet." Simu told him, but Donald didn't know what the fuck he said.

"Huh?" Donald said looking at his mouth. "Bet not be saying no slick shit." Donald pointed at him jokingly.

"I said, Jairi hasn't made it yet. She should be here." Simu still has a heavy Chinese accent that Donald still have a time understanding.

"There she go!" Donald told Simu and put his megaphone to his mouth. "Jairi!" He called out.

People started looking at him like he was crazy. Who brings a megaphone to a football game?

"Boo, da fuck!" Donald said to those watching.

Jairi made her way to the two men, squeezing between other to do so. "Hi, baby." She kissed Simu on the lips.

"Hi." Simu replied.

"You talkin' about me being late, but you the late one. I been here for like thirty minutes." Donald chuckled.

"Donald, I can tell that you're lying." Jairi rapidly fluttered her eyelashes at him.

"I ain't." Donald chuckled.

Jairi rolled her eyes at him. "A'ight, negro. I saw you walking here when I was finding a parking spot." She looked at him from the corner of her eyes.

"I'm not, Jai. Damn!" He laughed.

"Yo, what's up with the megaphone?" Jairi asked Donald.

"I want my daughter to know I'm here." Donald said looking down at the field where some of the cheerleaders stood. "Why they still out here, is it through?"

"See, that's how I KNOW you lying!" Jairi laughed.

"Whatever." Donald said surveying the field. He spotted his daughter with a football player, so he out the megaphone up to his mouth. "AYE YOU!" Donald got a lot of people's attention. "Step AWAY from the cheerleader!" DeVanté yelled.

There were a bunch the football players near the cheerleaders. "NOT YOU! YOU! NUMBER 54, STEP THE HELL AWAY FROM MY DAUGHTER WITH YO GROWN LOOKIN' ASS! AYE, MATTA FACT, DON'T NONE OF Y'ALL FUCK WITH LANAI DeGRATE! DO IT AND YOU GON' HAVE TO DEAL WITH ME!" He told everybody. "AND THIS BIG NIGGA NEXT TO ME!" Donald said putting his arm around Simu's shoulder.

"Donald!" Jairi attempted to snatch it from him. "Why would you even- stop!"

"Stop, Jai!" He said ripping his arm away from her. "These football players looking every bit of MY age in the face. Some older and they big as hell. I can't handle them alone. I'm tryna tell my babygirl something." He out it back up to his mouth. "I LOVE YOU, BABYGIRL! OH, AND GOOD LUCK!"

He waved at his daughter who's currently hiding her face in embarrassment. He then spotted his daughters friend with a football player that was TOO close in Donald's eyes. In reality he wasn't even that close to Jairi. Sure, the guy may have liked her, but he wasn't up on her tip.

"OOOH, JACEY IMMA TELL YO POP-" Jairi finally snatch it away from Donald before he could finish his statement.

"You're embarrassing your daughter AND her friend." Jairi said handing it to Simu.

"I am not! I'm just wishing her good luck. AGAIN, why is everyone looking at me?" He raised his voice so those around him could hear while turning his head. "The game ain't end yet, did it?"

"Nope, we're early. This is a big high school and I knew it'd be hard to find a parking spot. Plus, you run on CP time, so I told you to come earlier." Jairi pointed to her watch.

"Ain't that the pot calling the kettle black?" He said sitting down with his eyes on his daughter. He was referring to her slight insult. "Can I have my megaphone back?"

"Don't give it to him, hun." Jairi told her husband.

"Man, give me my shit back. Don't listen to her." Donald told him.

"No, he's going to embarrass our daughter." Jairi told him.

"Okay, look!" Simu held up the megaphone like he was surrendering to a cop and slowly bent down to place it on the ground.

Donald snatched it from the ground then turned his head. "Thank you. Good lookin' out, man!" Donald reached across Jairi to dap Simu up with his eyes STILL on the field.

"I did nothing, man." Simu laughed.

"Everything I told you not to do." Jairi laughed at her husband.

Donald quickly put the megaphone back up to his mouth. "AHT AHT! I SAID LEAVE HER ALONE. DON'T GO NEAR HER! WITH YO GROWN ASS!"

"Donald!" She lowered the megaphone to his lap.

"What? The nigga all on my damn daughter like she some damn pass around." Donald frowned.

"Don, zip it! I was looking at them. He's good! Calm down!" Jairi told him. "The guy is like two feet away."

"And? That's TOO damn close!" Donald told her.

"You're tripping." Jairi shook her head. "And you sound dumb. Remember how sheltered we were and went back wild when we FINALLY got away."

"I sound dumb? You want her to have a kid at fourteen like we did?" Donald asked Jairi.

"We were nineteen!" She laughed. "Standing two feet away ain't gon' give nobody no damn baby, you bum."

"Nineteen... Fourteen... It doesn't matter, both ages are too damn young AND that nigga look like he my fucking age." Donald told Jairi.

"Black don't crack." Simu told Donald.

Basically he was saying that DeVanté still looks young himself.

"Tell that to the bottom of this man's feet." Jairi said pointing to Donald.

"Aye, fuck you Jai." Donald said laughing. "Yo lips be cracking."

"What?" Jairi asked him. "Kiss my ass, Don. I'll have you know that sometimes I work all day without a break and sometimes get a bit dehydrated."

"I'm not talking about those lips." Donald laughed, but the married couple wasn't paying attention.

They were to busy watching the game that was about to begin. He thought about what he said and was happy they didn't pay attention. Even though it was a joke, it's still disrespectful and Donald doesn't want to hear Jairi's mouth. Twenty minutes into the game, Donald put the megaphone back up to his mouth.

"NUMBER 54, YOU FUCKING SUCK! YO BIG ASS CAN'T TACKLE FOR SHIT!" He yelled out to the high schooler. "YOU WANT MY DAMN DAUGHTER, BUT CAN'T EV-"

"Put it back up to your mouth and imma beat the brakes off you." Jairi said snatching it away from him and put it on the ground.

"You all words, Jai." Donald told her, grabbing it from the ground.

"Try me, DeGrate."

Donald shot her a smirk, taking it as a challenge. Halftime came around and they saw their daughter running out to the field. She seemed to be behind all the other girls. Donald lifted the megaphone up to his mouth again.

"Go Lanai!"

Jairi snatched it from him and screamed into it herself. "GO LANAI, BABY! WOOOO!"

Donald took it away from her. "Stop it, you're embarrassing our child."

"You both are embarrassing her. That's why I'm the cool one." Simu spoke to the both of them.

"Ahh, you shut your face!" Donald shouted at him.

"Go baby!" Donald and Jairi yelled into the megaphone together.

Everyone else were in their positions and Lanai had just caught up. The music started and the girls started their routine. It was great, but Jairi, Donald, and Simu did notice that Lanai remained behind the other girls.

"I think she's nervous." Simu said to Jairi and Donald.

"I don't know what's wrong with her." Donald shook his head.

It was time for the team to throw Lanai and some other girls into the air. Her body was thrown up into the air and they noticed her body started to convulsed. All three parents stood up.

"Something is wrong..." Jairi whispered to herself and squeezed passed Donald to get to the stairs of the bleacher stairs.

Lanai's body convulsed even harder and Jairi took off running down the stairs and into the field. It didn't take long for Simu and Donald to do the same. Jairi made it to her child that her teammates were trying to get to the ground. Lanai foamed at the mouth as her eyes rolled to the back of her head.

"Put her down!" Jairi told the team. Once they put her down Jairi turned her to onto her side on the ground and off her back. "She's having a seizure!"

"Lanai, baby!" Donald yelled at her.

"Move away!" Jairi screamed to everyone. She pulled the pompoms from Lanai's grip.

"Call the ambulance!" People screamed out.

"Stay back!" Jairi looked at her watch to see how long it had been. A little over a minute.

Lanai stopped convulsing, but saliva came out of her mouth. Jairi finally moved closer to her daughter who just laid there.

"LAN-" Donald was about to shout.

"Shhhh." Jairi shushed Donald because she doesn't want him to scare her. Lanai stared into space in a daze. She rubbed Lanai's face. "Can you hear me?" She asked her daughter. Lanai didn't say a word, she was just in a daze. "Can you hear me, Lanai?"

Jairi stood up, trying to swoop her daughter up, but Donald grabbed her instead and ran off with her.

"My car is closer!" Simu yelled at them and ran ahead to guide them.

Once they made it to the car, Donald laid her in the backseat with Jairi because he knew that Jairi knew what to do. She checked her daughters pulse. Donald went straight to the passengers seat. Jairi felt on her child chest and stomach to find any irregularities in her organs. Simu sped off to the hospital and Lanai immediately began to convulse again. Jairi turned her to her side and stepped her in so she won't fall into the floor if the car came to a sudden stop. Jairi made sure to time it. Donald turned to them.

"What the fuck is goin' on, man!? She ain't ever did this shit!" Donald shouted watching his daughter shake. "Aye man, SPEED this shit up!" He said to Simu.

Simu drove as fast as he could, Donald was just telling out of frustration and because he was scared. They FINALLY made it to the hospital and Donald ran inside with his daughter in his arms while, Jairi made sure he had her turned somewhat on her side, just in case she did it again.

Jairi insisted that she went to the back to care for her daughter. They allowed her to do that because she does work there and because of her adamancy. Simu and Donald waited in the waiting room for a long time without any information. Two whole hours to be exact. Lanai kept going into epileptic shock, but she was eventually stabilized.

"I'm telling you, this shit is weird. My child ain't ever done this shit." Donald shook his head.

K-Ci walked out of the room and to Donald and Simu. "Hello. So, Lanai has Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy.-"

"What the hell does that even mean?" Donald asked.

"Man, I know you're worried, but if you don't let me finish talking..." K-Ci told him. "This is most common in athletes. This means that it's hard for the heart to pump the amount of blood needed. That with physical activity can be deadly. In most cases it isn't caught early. This isn't early, but we also aren't too late. Her heart rate is beating at a low rate. The only thing we're waiting for is a donor with her blood type. She also had what the kids call Molly in her system. That could have also added onto her seizure. She-"

"Is she okay?" Donald asked him.

"She's fine, but her heart is very weak. She's being moved to ICU for close monitoring. I can will take you to the floor and room." K-Ci said walking.

Donald rubbed his face in frustration. As they made their way to the elevator.

"She's going to get through this." Simu touched Donald's shoulder in comfort.

"The fuck is she doing with Molly?" Donald mumbled to himself. "She needs a heart?" Donald asked K-Ci wanting him to repeat it

"Yes." K-Ci replied with a nod. "We need to find a donor with her rare blood type. She needs one soon."

Donald nodded. Once they made it o her floor, they walked out of the elevator and straight into Lanai's room. Jairi was near her daughter, holding her hand. Their daughter has all kinds of things hooked up to her body. Donald and Simu made their way to Jairi, but Donald got ahold of Jairi first and pulled her close to him in an embrace. Jairi automatically molded into Donald's string bean body.

Simu understood what they're going through being that they are the biological parents of Lanai, but Simu felt the way they felt. He wanted to be the one comforting his wife at a time like this. He needed comfort as well and he needed that from his wife.

"She needs a new heart." Jairi mumbled into Donald's shirt.

"I know." Donald mumbled into her hair.

Simu grabbed his wife's hand and that made her acknowledge him. She curled up to him. "It's going to be okay." Simu reassured her.

"Can she talk?" Donald asked.

"She can speak. She just fell asleep. My baby is just exhausted." Jairi told Donald.

Donald sighed in somewhat if a relief. Now he's just worried about Lanai finding a heart.

"She needs to find one soon- in under two months or she could die, but there are no donors!" Jairi silently cried against Simu while Donald went around to the otherside of the bed and bent down to speak to his daughter.

"Daddy loves you." Donald whispered into his child's ear.

Another doctor entered the room. "Doctor Liu, your blood type is not a match."

Simu's heart stopped and he stared at his wife coming into realization of what she was trying to do. He didn't question it verbally. He still held her tight while trying to wrap his mind around him living without her. Don't get him wrong, he LOVES Lanai and would never stop, but he couldn't fathom living without his wife just as much without Lanai. They came as a package deal to his heart. Donald looked up at Jairi with an unreadable expression.

A nurse came in, "There's a Madonna here. Do any of you know her?"

"Yes, send her in." Donald nodded.

He also was things what took her so long to arrive. He called her over two hours ago. Donald directed his attention back to Jairi. She was willing to give up her life and heart for her child! Donald kissed his daughters forehead and stood up straight just as Madonna walked inside.

"Hey, baby! I got here as soon as I could." She said rushing over to him. "What happened?"

Donald just needed human contact and immediately embraced his girlfriend.

"I'm not?" Jairi cried.

"No ma'am you're not a match." Doctor Evie shook his head at her.

"She needs to find someone with the same blood type." Donald explained to Madonna. "For a new heart. Can you take my blood? I want to see if I'm a match."

Madonna pulled away from Donald with a deep frown. "For what? She needs blood too or JUST a heart?"

"She needs a heart, baby." Donald said to Madonna.

Madonna shook his head at him. "Donald, do you really want to do this? Think about this!" She squeaked.

"I did and I'm willing to give my life for my child." Donald told her.

"The doctor for that just left." Doctor Evie said to Donald.

"I can take and label his blood so they'll be able to check it tomorrow." Jairi said aloud Donald nodded.

"You're going to have to clock back in and get back to work." Doctor Evie told Jairi.

"What?" Simu asked. "She just clocked out a few hours ago. Our daughter is laying here from Christ sake!" Simu said getting upset. "She can't do it without having to clock in?"

"No, I can't. It's a liability." Jairi explained to her husband. "I wasn't even supposed to be tending to Nai without doing so, but they gave me a pass."

"Thank you, Doctor Liu." Doctor Evie said leaving the room.

"I'm going to go put back on my scrubs." Jairi explained to them. She kissed her husband on the lips.

"Baby, you're exhausted. They had you working all day yesterday and this morning, then you had to come back four hours later." Simu told his wife.

"I know, but I'll be fine. I need to do this." Jairi reassured him.

"Thanks Jai." Donald smiled to let her know he appreciated it.

Jairi walked out of the room. Simu knew what he was talking about. She came home this morning exhausted then had to get up a couple hours later to get dressed again. He knew his wife was on the brink of exertion and now her mental state was being compromised.

"Donald- baby, why would you want do this?" Madonna asked him. "This is inhumane. It's not needed!"

"Inhumane? THIS is my fucking daughter laying there in that bed!" Donald pointed to his daughter. "YOU or anyone else don't get to tell me what I NEED to do! I will do ANYTHING for my child! She's only fourteen! I loved a fun life and my heart is healthy, she hasn't even experienced life!"

"I get it, it's your daughter, but THINK about this, DONALD!" Madonna yelled back at him.

"Shut up!" Simu said fed the hell up. "You two are going to wake Nai up."

Donald took that into consideration and lowered his pitch, but his tone deepened. "First you show up late, then you tell me what I NEED to do. Don't add on to my stress more than needed." He told his girlfriend.

Simu understood how Madonna felt, but he also knew that there was not stopping neither of the two parents and once they made up their mind, they were going to complete if possible. Jairi and Donald were adamant in their decisions and only could persuade each other to change it, especially when it comes to Lanai.

Jairi made it back to the room. "I'm ready for you, Don."

Donald walked out of the room with Jairi, leaving Madonna and Simu staring there.

"Can you believe him?" Madonna asked Simu. "He's being so damn stupid!"

"I can... In fact, I'm going to see if I'm a match too." Simu said to Madonna.

"I hope you are, so that could at least eliminate Donald." Madonna shook her head and left the room.

Simu frowned at her and shook his head. He looked down at his daughter to see her eyes opened. Lanai had heard EVERYTHING! Simu doesn't know that though. She woke back up when her mother spoke to the doctor about blood matching and heart, which is only a few minutes prior. Lanai opened her mouth to speak.

"What is it, sweetheart?" Simu asked.

"I- I- I hate that bitch." She let out as best as she could. She has tubes in her mouth.

Simu would've chastised her for curse, but he was just glad to hear her voice. It didn't help that he doesn't like Madonna either.

"She said her first words." Simu laughed at Lanai and she laughed too even though the laugh was painful.

"Sorry." She apologized.
