Chapter Eighteen.

Lillian was doing her homework in the kitchen when Zane started fussing and crying. She huffed, sitting her pencil down, and got up, going into the living room and grabbing Zane from the play pen. She bounced him against her hip, "Zane, mommy has to do homework and it's a lot. Please stop crying.", she said.

She was getting a headache and doing homework and Zane crying was frustrating her. She walked into the kitchen and sat Zane on one of her thigh as she bounced him on it, going back to her homework.

It wasn't long though before he reached out for her bottle of water and it slipped from his small hands, going all over her French homework.

"Zane!", she cried. She wrapped one around his waist and the other picked her homework that wasn't ruined away before the water could get it. Tears went down Zane's face as he started crying and she brought her hand up to her forehead, groaning. She hurried over to where the paper towels went and took the roll over to the table, cleaning up the mess.

Ryan walked through the doors just in time though and she rushed over to him, "Take him.", she ordered, her voice was hard. She didn't want to be mad at Zane, but with so much homework, it was getting to her.

He took Zane, confused, "What's the matter?", he asked as he followed her back into the kitchen.

"He's been crying every time I don't give him attention and I couldn't get my work done, so I placed him on my lap and he spilled water all over my French homework.", she said, placing papers towels over the drench paper, not wanting to risk picking it up.

"Where's my mom and dad?", he asked, sitting down on the chair.

"I don't know.", she said, shrugging her shoulders as he tired to get back to her math homework. "Shopping, I don't know, they went out.".

"Okay.", he said. "I see your to busy right now.", he said as he got up from the chair and went into the living room.

What is that suppose to mean?, she asked herself, but deciding she was to busy with homework to ask.

After almost an hour, she finished her school work and it was time for bed already. She went into the living room and picked Zane up so she could give him a bath.

"Maybe you should be a little easier, Zane's only a baby.", Ryan said, making her pause as she reached the stairs.

"I didn't yell at him or anything.", she said.

He walked over to her and took Zane, "Maybe I should give him the bath, you look a little stress.".

"No, I'll do it.", she said stubbornly. "You don't do it correctly anyways.".

"I think I know how to give my own son a bath.", he said, trying to lighten the mood by chuckling, but for some reason, it just pissed her off more trying to make joke.

"No you don't.", she said, a little to hard and his smile dropped. "He likes it when I give him a bath, so I'll just do it.".

Ryan scuffed, "Lil, I know your stressed, but come on.".

"I'm fine.", she said, taking Zane back and he grabbed for her hair, which she forgot he likes to pull on sometime and he took a rough tug. "Ow, Zane!".

"Okay, give me him.", Ryan said, taking Zane back again and he went upstairs without another word.

Lillian brought her hand up to her forehead and ran her fingers across her hair, "Calm down, Lillian, it's not such a big deal.", she reminded herself as she walked over to the couch and laid down on it on her stomach. She felt ready for bed.

"You don't tell her.", Max said, pointing at Zane.

"And if she finds out?", Ryan asked, raising an eyebrow. "She'll be more pissed at the fact that I hid it.".

"She wont have to find out.", James said.

Ryan looked down at his soda, "Well she doesn't need to add more stress to her life right now, so maybe I wont tell her. I mean, I didn't do anything wrong, but telling her this would just make her more worried.".

"Ecstatically.", Kurt said. "Here comes your baby mama matter of fact."

Lillian sat down next to him, looking grumpy as she did last night. He reached out to put his hand on he shoulder, but she shrugged it off. His eyebrows came together, "What's wrong?".

"I'm tired.", she said coldly, rubbing her right eye. "I'm tried of school, studying, teachers, and not sleeping.", she snapped.

"Try smiling.", Max joked and she winced as she glared at him and he coughed awkwardly.

"He's right,", Ryan said, leaning towards her, put his hands on her shoulders, and rubbed them. He chuckled, "Life is to good to be mopping around and-"

"Ow! Stop it!", she said, taking his hands off her shoulder. "Your hurting me.".

He jerked back, "I was just trying to help.".

"My shoulders are fine.", she said, running her hands under her nose. "Ugh, I think Zane got me sick.", she said, her voice sounded sick as she slid her trey away.

Ryan turned back in his seat and looked at his friends with an annoyed look on his face. Grumpy Lillian wasn't so cute right now. She was actually more mean. He understand she having a hard time dealing with everything, but so is he. He just hides it betters and isn't so mean to everyone.

"I promise you I'll have it tomorrow.", Lillian said as she got a new copy of her French homework.

Her French teacher just nodded and Lillian knew the expression on her face wasn't so good. She turned and left the classroom. She rubbed her throat as she walked over to her locker and packed her stuff up.

She threw her bag over her right shoulder and began down the hall, making sure not to catch eye contact with Duncan as she passed him. She had made it passed it, but he noticed her and she heard his locker shut, "Lil, wait!".

Her feet stopped and she breathed hard out her nose before turning to face him, "I have to go, Duncan, I have to go shopping with Ryan for Zane.".

"Okay, but this will just take a second.", he said and she crossed her arms, letting him speak. "My mom having this party at her church, I don't know, it's something they do every month, but she wanted to know if maybe you and Zane would like to come."

"Oh.", she said. "Well, I don't know. Last time I stepped into a church, I got stared and gossiped because I was pregnant. I stopped going because of that. I don't need to be judged by religious freak.".

"Their cool though, you like my mom.", he said. "They wont judge you, I promise.".

"Well, maybe.", she said. "I have to go.".

She turned and left.

She decided not to talk to Ryan about Duncan when she got into the car since she sure she wont end up going. Ryan had to drive out of town to go to a Wal-Mart into next town.

"God damn.", Ryan said, pinching the bridge of his nose. "I don't think I have enough for the box.".

"I thought you got your tips.", Lillian said.

"I had to use them for gas.", he said, running his head threw his hair.

"Well we need to get the box because you don't get paid until Friday.", she said.

"And what is he going to eat?", he asked. "You going to go back to breast feeding him cause I'm not sure if I'll have the money for the formula if we get the box of diapers and then we'll need the wipes.".

She sighed and looked down at the box of diapers, "This is giving me a headache.", she said, rubbing her temples. "And I don't want to start breastfeeding him again when he has teeth.".

"So what do we do? I only have fifty dollars.", he said.

She put her hands on her hips, "I think we're going to have to hold off paying our phone bills.", she said.

"What?", he asked. "Lillian, I need my phone turned off.".

"Why?", she asked, shrugging.

He scuffed, "Um, for one, so you can in contact with me and second, I need it on for important reasons.".

"Like?", she asked. "If I need to reach you, I'll just call your work.".

"Lil, stop. Your being stubborn, you know why I need my cell phone. I don't want it turned off.", he said.

"What's more important? Zane or your phone?", she asked, her voice getting hard. "Ryan, it's a phone.".

He smacked his tongue against his teeth, "Whatever.".

Just doing that, it made her head hurt worse and she threw her hands up, groaning, "Don't do that, it gets on my nerves.", she said.

"What?", he asked, smacking his tongue against his teeth again. "That?".

"Yes! Stop.", she said. "Your being immature, Ryan.".

"I'm being immature?", he asked. "I know Zane important, but these days, so is a cell phone. What if I get stuck on the side of the road and have no way of getting in contact for help? Catch a ride with a truck diver and get raped?".

"Oh come on.", she scuffed. "Just deal with it and get the what your son needs.", she said. "It's only be two God damn weeks you'll go without a phone. I know your all special with people, always texting and talking, but you'll survive.".

He groaned and reached down to grab the box, "Says you.", he muttered lowly, but she heard him.

"What?", she asked.

"Nothing.", he sighed.

"No, what did you say?", she asked. "What did you mean?".

"Lillian, stop!", he said loudly, then look around to see if anyone heard him. "Why are you making such a big deal about this?".

"Because! Your just so-ugh! You think a phone more important then your son!", she said, knowing really that wasn't the reason, but it's better than not really knowing what the problem really is. She just isn't having a good day and she isn't feel well. She's just crabby, but she wouldn't admit it to him.

"I never said that!", he said. "Don't ever say anything could be more important than him to me.", he said, walking away from her and she glared down at the floor, but followed behind him to get the rest of the stuff.

When they drove home, it was silent. She leaned her arm against the door and stared out the window. She could feel the tension between the and she knew it was her fault, but she just wasn't in the mood to admit it.

"I can give my phone up.", he said and she looked at him. "Your right, it's not such a big deal . We all need to be sacrifices and I can always just go on the computer when I get home.", he said

"Alright.", she said, not really sure what to say anything else.

"Your turn.", he said and she looked at him confused, not sure what he meant by that. "Say your sorry for being so mean today.".

"Huh?", she asked. "I don't know what your talking about.".

"Your were being rude to everyone, even the guys notice.", he said.

"So?", she said, sitting up straighter in the seat. "I can be if I want, with how much stress I can deal with. If I just hold it up, I explode. Maybe I get tired sometimes of being pushed around.".

"Pushed around?", he asked. "Who pushes your around? I don't know what your talking about. Are you getting your period or something?".

She looked at her door window, "You wouldn't understand.".

"Explain to me then.", he said. "Explain why your being such a sourpuss

Her head snapped to him, "For one, I'm sick as a dog and second, your just-annoying today! Maybe tomorrow I'll think your cute, but today, your like an annoying-annoying-ugh! Like an annoying child!".

His eyebrows came together and he looked amused now as he looked at her for a quick second, "That's your comeback?".

"Ugh!", she groaned, rolling her eyes. "Stop smiling, it's annoying!", she said, sinking into her seat, rubbing her head.

"Oh smile!", he said, reaching over and ticked under her chin, but she smacked his hand away.

"Don't! It's not funny.", she said. "Bring your hand near me again and I'll bit it off.".

"Why don't you tell me more about how you think I'm cute.", he said.

"I never said you were.", she grumbled.

"Yes you did, just a moment ago.", he said. "You think I'm cute!", he said childish.

"Shut up!", she said, turning the radio up.
