Chapter One.

Lillian's nose scrunched up as she walked past a couple making out. Come on, we're in school! She wanted to yell at them, but decided to keep her mouth closed. Her best friend Jeannette was babbling on about how much fun she was going to have at this party she's forcing Lillian to go to.

They got to their lockers which were right next to each other and unpacked all their things. She pushed her glasses up as she held her binder, text book, and note pad in one arm. Luckily carrying around these books made her arms a little strong.

"Maybe we can find you a date by tonight." Jeannette excitedly said and looked around. "You know, I swear Todd has been having his eyes on you." she giggled, wiggling her eyebrows.

Lillian's nose scrunched up, "Ew no, Todd's a total pervert. Jean, I don't need a date. I agreed to go to this stupid party, not to hook up.", she said, leaning against her closed locker. "I'll probably be sitting out while you and Ryan have your little fun." she said.

Jeanette giggled more, "Indeed it will be fun."

Lillian just shook her head and grinned at her crazy friend. "I'm going, that should make you leave me alone about this anyway. And I'm wearing what I want."

She scuffed, "But...but, I was planning to make you my living Barbie doll." she sarcastically said, pouting her lower lip out, trembling it like she was about to cry, and gave Lillian puppy eyes.

Lillian chuckled, "You're such a loser."

She grinned, "But isn't that why you love me?" she asked, giving her a seductive look.

They giggled with each other before an arm wrapped around Jeanette's shoulder with the school soccer team blue and gold jacket. Lillian looked up in annoyance at her best friend's meat-head jock of a boyfriend, Ryan.

He was super tan, had dark hair that he pushed back, brown eyes, and stood about six feet. He's a nice guy, but Lillian hated how much time Jeanette spent with him now more than her. They only been dating for three months and Jeanette's like a lost puppy when she's not with him.

He leaned down and put a big one on her, "Hey, Jeanie.",

"Jeany?" Lillian questioned and he nodded.

"Yeah, it's my nickname for her. Don't worry, I have one for you to, Calla-Lilly." he said, grinning at her when she looked at him in annoyance.

"You know the real name for that is varkoor, which is Afrikaans for pig ear." she said, earning odd looks from her best friend and her boyfriend. She shrugged, "What? It's true."

"You just made the prettiest flower sound ugly." Jeanette said.

"Yeah, but how about I call you a rose? Sound better?" he asked. "I mean, no one has de-flowered you." he said, chuckling and Jeanette hit him in the stomach.

Lillian grabbed her notebook and hit him in the head with it before storming away angrily. She rolled her eyes when she heard Jeanette apologize for him. She didn't want to hear an apology; she wanted Ryan's head to be stuck in the boy's bathroom toilet. Okay, so she's a virgin. What's the big deal? She just wanted to prevent pregnancies and diseases. Even, losing her virginity was the last thing on her mind.

Lillian stepped out of her closet to show Jeanette her outfit, "How do I look?" she asked, looking down at her skinny jeans, red mid-long sleeve Hollister shirt, and brown strappy sandals.

Jeanette got up from the bed and walked over to her with her finger across her chin, looking her over, "Hmm, hold on." she said, taking Lillian's glasses off and lifted her shirt up a little. Not enough to show her navel, but enough for some of her lightly tanned skin to show.

Jeanette smile proudly, "Perfect, now--hey, hands off." she said, smacking Lillian's hands away when she went to pull her shirt back down. "Lil, come on, you look hot. Not slutty hot, but hot. So don't worry."

Lillian looked down at her shirt, knowing what she's saying is true. She's a bookworm who spends her weekends reading Nora Roberts novels and has a thing for chocolate ice cream.

And an outfit is not going to change who she is. She slid the shirt off and grabbed her navy blue tank top with lacy edges, pulling the tank up a little to show some skin. Lillian hit Jeanette's arm from the look she gave Lillian like she was about to cry, "I'm so proud." she said and Lillian rolled her eyes.

"I'm so going to be the third wheel." she said to Jeanette as she pulled her hair up into a messy bun.

"No you're not, stop staying that!" Jeanette said and playfully slapped Lillian. "You're going to be dancing with tons of cute boys and hopefully find a boyfriend by the end of the night."

"I don't need a boyfriend, Jean." Lillian said.

She snorted, "Yes you do and you haven't had one since eighth grade. Trust me, having a boyfriend is amazing! You won't feel lonely anymore."

"Who said I was lonely?" Lillian shrugged. "I'm not lonely, I have my Nora Roberts and Ben and Jerry chocolate ice cream."

Jeanette fixed her short black dress and snorted, "Well tonight your best friends are going to be a can of beer and Todd.

"First off, my drink is going to be a can of coke and second, I'm staying the heck away from Todd." she said. Lillian hasn't gotten drunk before and she didn't plan to start anytime soon. What's the point of drinking? All you do is wake up with a headache the next day. It's pretty stupid when you can feel the same drunken way with an energy drink.

~

Lillian gave an uneasy look as Ryan pulled up to Marni Allen's house and people were around doing all normal things you would do at a party. Drinking, dancing, eating, probably getting high somewhere, and sex in someone's room. Marni's house was huge since her father was mayor of Ridge Hill.

Ryan parked his car and Jeanette got out, but Lillian didn't move. Jeanette opened her door and grabbed her upper arm, dragging her out. "Come on! The night awaits!" she said excitedly as she wrapped her arm around Lillian's and they walked up to Marni's house.

Lillian started to wonder how long she's going to be here. She's amazed her parents let her out to go to the party as long as she didn't drink. She told them they'll go back to Jeanette's house when it's over which is true. She'll end up at Jeanette's house tonight.

They walked into the house and Lillian's nose scrunched up when she walked in because the air was warm, sweaty, and smelled like cigarettes. People were around either dancing or hanging out. Laughing, yelling, and music playing was also annoying.

Lillian felt Jeanette being ripped away from her and her head snapped to her right to see a group of Jeanette's friends dragging her away and Jeanette turned her head to give Lillian an apologetic look.

Lillian crossed her arms over her chest, knowing this was going to happen. She looked at Ryan who stood next to her awkwardly. She looked down at her feet when he spoke, "You look nice, Lillian." Ryan awkwardly commented. She just snorted when she looked up at him. He scratched the back of his head, "Well, I'm going to go get a drink." he said, turning to go to the kitchen.

~

And hour passed and Lillian watched from the kitchen as Jeanette was taking pictures with her friends. Lillian took a sip of her soda and turned around and leaned on the island. She thought back to the fourth grade when they met on the school bus on the first day. Lillian needed a spot on the bus and Jeanette offered the spot next to her. Best friends ever since then. But it seemed like since they started high school last year they had been growing apart.

An arm went around Lillian and she jumped, her head snapping to her left to see Todd grinning down her. Todd was the junior hallway classic jerk that was handsome, but too much of a pig.

"My, my, my, someone's looking pretty hot tonight." he said and Lillian brought her hand up to her nose when she smelled the beer on his breath mixed with food. Yuck. "I almost didn't recognize you without your glasses, Lillian. You look so different without them."

"Thanks.", she said awkwardly, then moved his arm from around her.

He grabbed the bottle of vodka that was on the island, "Have a drink with me.", he said.

"No, I'm fine." she said, waving it away from her. She turned to leave, but he grabbed her from the waist.

"Hold up, Lil. Just one drink." he said.

"I don't want to, Todd." she said, trying to get out of his hold. "I'll stick with soda."

"One drink and I'll let you go--Jean, tell your friend to have a drink with me!" he called out to Jeanette when she stepped into the kitchen.

She chuckled, "Yeah Lil, come on. Have some fun for once in your life." she said and Lillian knew she was also drunk, so she wouldn't take her side.

"I'd rather not." Lillian said.

"But come on!" Jeanette whined. "Come on, let loose for once. These are your teen years, do you really want to look back and remember that you never had fun for once in your life?"

Lillian wanted to argue, but she noticed people around were staring at her, giving her a look that said 'come on, do it!' Not wanting to be stared at and feeling more like a loser, she sighed heavily, "Fine."

People around cheered and she rolled her eyes, but couldn't help but smile. She knew this was stupid, but it was only one drink. No harm to it. She wouldn't get drunk off her mind from one drink. Todd poured her one fourth of a cup with orange juice.

She brought it up to her mouth and smelled it. She didn't really smell anything, so it should be fine. Right? She tilted it in her mouth and took a big sip. She brought the cup away when she felt like it was burning in her throat and she brought her free hand up to her throat, "Oh my god.", she cried.

People around her laughed and told her to drink some more. She looked at Jeanette and she nodded, "Come on, you have to admit, it was fun. More!" she said, bringing the cup up to Lillian's mouth and Lillian took it, just deciding to finish with it to get it over with.

After two big gulps, she finished it with coughing and her throat burning more. After a moment, the coughing and burning stopped. She didn't know why, but the thought of chugging it down made her giggle. She ran her fingers across her bangs, "That...that wasn't bad." she said. She always wondered what it would feel like to be drunk. She didn't know...maybe wobbly or dizzy, but no, she felt like she was hyper and could do anything.

"Good," Todd said, taking the cup and poured more.

"Oh, I don't know." she said, shaking her head watching him. She wasn't sure if her words were true though since she kind of liked how she felt. She felt loose. But when Todd held the cup out to her, she took it and shrugged, "Okay.", she said and people chuckled.

As she took a sip, Jeannette wrapped her arm around her and pulled her where people were dancing. Lillian let her hair out of her ponytail and she danced in place, letting her hair down that went to her mid back.

Another cup of vodka and two cans of beer later, Lillian knew she was drunk. She felt slightly dizzy now, but still the rush of excitement. She was at the steps since Jeanette and Ryan decided to start dancing together. Lillian chugged down the half can of beer and leaned back against the stairs.

She started to feel dizzier. She closed her eyes and rubbed them before she opened them wide to try and clear her vision. She checked what time it was and saw it was twelve at night.

No wonder she was starting to feel tired. She decided to go find a room since it would be away from the rest of the people. She climbed up the stairs and she went up to a door, but when she felt it was locked, she tried another one, than another, and another. When she tried her fifth one, it wasn't locked and she went in. She touched the wall next to the door to find a light switch and when she did, she turned on the lights to find herself probably in Marni's parents' bedroom.

And man, did they have one nice bedroom. Everything looked expensive from the wooden bed, blankets, and pillows. The flat screen TV was huge! And other stuff was in a cabin-like theme.

The light was coming from a crystal chandelier in the middle of the wall! Who in hell has a chandelier in their room?

Lillian walked over to the dresser and picked up one of the perfumes. She brought it up to her nose and smelled it. It smelled good! She sprayed some on her neck and some on her wrist, rubbing her other wrist against it.

She smelled a few others and when she got to her fourth one, the door to the room opened and she jumped, the bottle almost slipping from her grasp. She saw Ryan walk in but was taken back when he noticed her.

"Oh," he said, rubbing his eyes that looked wet.

"Are you crying?" she asked, setting the bottle down in its place where she found it.

"What? No!" he quickly lied, but Lillian knew what a person looked like when they're crying and he was definitely crying.

She walked over to him to see he looked as drunk as she did. "Come on, Ryan, you don't have to play that game with me. I know you were crying. Why?" she asked.

"Your friend," he said, walking around her over to the bed. "I do everything for that girl and she decided to start grinding against Asher Shield!" he said angrily, hitting the bottom of the headboard before sitting down on the bed.

Lillian was confused, "She was what?" she asked, walking over to him. "Jean wouldn't do that, she hates Asher Shield."

"I guess not enough if she was dancing like some stripper." he said.

"So that's why you were crying! You were jealous." she couldn't help but say it loudly.

"Shut up!" he yelled. "I wasn't crying because of her! I just have something in my eyes. Both of them, that's all."

Lillian smiled, couldn't help but think that it was sweet of him to cry. She thought it was sweet of boys who cry instead of being angry when they're hurt. Who knew Ryan of all people had feelings. "Awe," she said. She sat down next to him and put an arm around him, "It's okay, Ryan. I'm sure she didn't mean to. Jean loves you to death and she wouldn't do anything to hurt you. She just likes to dance and...and..." she trailed off when Ryan's eyes stared into her green ones. She never noticed how beautiful they were until now.

He put his hands on both sides of her neck and pressed his lips fully on her. She gasped and put her hands on his wrist, pulling back with her mouth wide open. She couldn't believe he just kissed her! Her best friend's boyfriend just kissed her! But being kissed, the way he kissed her she hated to think she liked it. Not because it was he was her best friend boyfriend but because he actually kissed her. Not many guys been kissing her.

"Sorry," he said.

She stared at him, well, his lips. God, they were amazing and soft. She'd been kissed before, but she was a crappy kisser. She leaned back over and kissed him. He didn't seem to hesitate kissing her back and he caressed all over her body and she did the same thing.

Before she knew it, her breathing was hard when his mouth trailed down her neck. She knew this was wrong since this was first of all Ryan! Her best friend's boyfriend! And second, because she was feeling a certain place heating up. She wanted to stop but also wanted to keep going.

"Ryan-", she was about to stop him when he brought his mouth back to hers and moved his tongue into her mouth. Her hormones were going wild and she just wanted them to stop. But she knew only one way could stop them.

She pressed against Ryan more and he pushed her down on the bed with his body and crawled on top of her, going in between her legs.

She knew she was going to regret this later. But it was the heat of the moment.
