Benedict
What she said shocked and confused me.
Ha? Hakdog. I thought to myself, Date? Aba ang puta na nagsabi lang sa akin na gago ako, nagtatanong kung pwede i-date? I laughed at her, "Gaga ka ba?" I asked.
Georgina stared at me , her head tilted as she tried to make out the words I said. "Excuse me, what?" She asked me.
I tried my best not to laugh at her. She stared at me.
"Ummmm..." I cleared my throat, "Are you insane?" I asked her.
She shook her head, "No. I am not insane, Benedict. "
I sighed in relief, "Oh thank God. I thought you were. " I joked . She laughed and then turn serious, "Don't dare insult me. "
Wow , this entitled bitch. I thought . " Let's cut to the chase, Georgina." I started as I grabbed a cookie and took a bite. "What do you want from me? "
"I need you to date me. " She answered quickly as she grabbed her milktea and took a sip.
"Yes , I know that but why and how long do I have to "date" you?" I asked.
She looked at her phone while she counted on her fingers , "About....maybe..." She said before counting again, "9?10? Months?"
I stared at Her, titling my head at her direction as I bit another cookie.
"Why do you want to be dated?" I asked her. She sighed, "You don't want to know, Ben. "
I shifted my position on the chair, trying to get a comfortable space.
"Will you help me?" She asked. My throat tighten when I heard that, I looked around , my eyes and its tears nearly escaping. I could feel less oxygen coming inside of my body. I wanted to answer but my mouth would be sealed when I tried to.
"What will it be?" She asked , getting impatient, the drumming of her fingers getting much more repetitive, it made my ears slowly bleed out.
"Can...you.... " I started , feeling the relief that I can finally talk again , "Give me some time?" I asked her as I got up from the chair I was sitting upon.
She nodded, "Sure, I'll give you until Friday next week to decide, is that good enough?" She asked. I looked at her and nodded my head, "Okay. Next week Friday will do. "
She gleamed , her nearly perfect white teeth shinning through and grabbed a piece of paper and pen from her tiny bag and wrote something . She handed the piece of paper to me.
"What is this?" I asked her , skimming through the paper . On it was her name and a number . "Is this your number?"
She nodded her head, "Yes. Yes its my number. Give me a call once you've made up your mind. "
She looked outside the glass door and got up, holding her nearly consumed bottle of milktea, "Oh well, there's my ride home. I'll see you next time . " She started to walk to the door, her friends trailing behind her as if like they were her dogs.
"And , Benedict. Just a reminder, " She called out from the door, her hand was holding onto the door handle. "I don't take no for an answer, so don't bother saying no. "
Aba? Bawal ang "no" sa kanya, akala mo kung sino yung maganda. Tangina
She pulled the door open and her and her friends left the shop. I sat alone in the table , my hand still holding onto the piece of paper with her number on. I got up from the table and went to the door. As I grabbed onto the handle, I pushed the door forward , yet it had a hard time to open.
"Ay tanga, pull pala. " I laughed to myself and pushed the door back. The barista who seemed to notice what I was doing seemed pretty disappointment on what he was seeing. I pushed the door back and pulled it this time, stepping outside of the shop.
The orange-red sky seemed to stretch for miles, jeepneys and public utility vehicles filled with passengers were driving by, people were crossing the street. The smell of smoke from the vehicles entered my nose, I coughed and covered my mouth as to make sure that there won't be any absorbed harmful chemicals that my body was inhaling.I waited for a jeepney to pass by. Time continues to fly , although a little much slower due to the waiting. Several jeepneys had passed by me and none had a vacant space .
"Kuya! Kuya!" I called out, raising my hand and waving it as I saw one jeepney pass by. *This could be it! Makakauwi na ako!* The jeepney halted when it reached me . "Pwede pa isang pasahero po?" Taong ko sa manong driver . He nodded his head, "Pwede pa naman, iho. " He answered me .
I sighed in relief and got inside the jeepney, sitting down on a spot that was vacant. Opening my wallet, I grabbed what's left of my money and paid the driver, seeing the money pass through different hands until it reached the driver. The driver received the money and asked where I wanted to go, I answered with the place I wanted to go . My changed arrived and I counted to make sure it was correct, to which , it was.
The drive back home was fine and normal, as usual. I grabbed my earphones and my phone , opening the music app. I scrolled through the playlists I have created until I found the riding a jeepney back home playlist.
I know the name sounds funny but, that's what it is really. They're songs that I listen to in the jeepney on my way home. I played the first song of the playlist and listen through. I kept looking out the window, time in time again ,either to see if I'm getting close to my stop or simply for the aesthetic.
The driver made several stops and several passengers went down . The space inside was getting less cramped, making him feel much more free.
I looked out once more and saw my stop, pausing the music that was nearing its chorus and placing my phone inside my pocket .
"Para po kuya!" Sigaw ko ng malakas para marinig niya ako. The driver stopped and I got off the jeepney. I looked up and saw the sky shifted its colors once more, from the tips of its red, shown black and blue together. Slowly, both colors started to dominate over them with an array of stars coming along them.
I started to walk, the streets were illuminated with street lights, giving it a orange-white hue . There were less children playing than in the morning. The lights of people's homes shown through their windows.
I continued to walk until I reached my neighborhood. Other houses were illuminated with lights while others aren't. The yelling of an old couple that lived in one of the houses was prominent. I tried to not laugh nor try to listen on what they're yelling about.
I soon reached our house, the lights from the kitchen and outside were on and ang mga sampayan ni mama were placed outside . I could hear the news segment of the tv from outside. I walked closer to the house and opened the door, the creak made my parents turn their backs to see what happened.
"Bakit ngayon ka lang?"
