Prologue
It was cold. The storm raged outside, as the heavens grew aware of the couple in the small Naples apartment.
"No! CHRIS! NO!"
She screamed her lungs out, calling to him. If she could, she would run after him but her hands were bound to the chair. She didn't want him to go. She didn't want him to leave her alone. But he had to leave. He always did. That's why he had to tie her. He knew she wasn't strong enough to let him go. And yet he still chose to tell her. He still chose to love her. He still chose to repeat this miserable, wretched, vile cycle.
"I'm sorry," he whispered as he stood near the door. The rope was loose and she would soon break free. He had to leave. Now. "I love you, Aria. Goodbye."
And with that, he turned his back on her without a second glance. She squirmed in her bonds, finally freeing herself. Dashing out the door and into the cold ruthless night. She wiped at her face furiously removing the water from her eyes as she looked around. The rain made it hard to see but she finally spotted him. Across the street, disappearing in a flash of light.
She fell to her knees, wailing on the sidewalk.
He's gone, she thought, he's gone forever.
