Chapter 4 - Harsh Truth
There was no scar.
Myeong Jo gasped in shock. She covered her mouth with her hand to hold her gasping shock.
Jimin knocked on the bathroom door, “Myeong Jo, gwenchana?”
She didn’t hear him as she was in so much shock.
He knocked again, “Yah! Are you okay in there? Gwenchana? Myeong Jo-ah!”
She fell on her knees in the bathroom floor, creating a loud noise. Jimin got worried more.
“What was that? Are you okay? Myeong Jo, open up!” Jimin yelled at her now.
Myeong Jo was feeling too lost. She couldn’t understand anything. The scar not being there means she was never there when the man hit her. Maybe she wasn’t even in this place. She was never married to Jimin. Maybe she wasn’t even born in this place.
Jimin began banging on the door, “Myeong Jo, open the door or else I'm gonna break it.”
She wasn't from here. She's been doing something wrong. She's taking someone else's place. Myeong Jo felt her heart getting heavier with pain and guilt. She shouldn’t do this. She was an ordinary poor girl with struggling bad nightmare which she called memories. Not any Queen or a wife.
She opened the door and saw Jimin was about to break open the door.
“What happened to you? Why did you run away all on a sudden? Why did you close the door?” Jimin yelled at her with so many questions.
Before she could explain, he hugged her without any hesitation. Her eyes widened.
“Don't you dare scare me anymore. I can't lose you.” Jimin muttered under his breath.
Myeong Jo wanted to pull away. She knows he was thinking her as his wife. When she was clearly not. She wanted to push him away. This was wrong.
But as you know, no one could resist a hug. Jimin's beautiful warm hug melted her in a second. The flow of tenison, confusion, worries that were inside her body slowly decreased into normal.
Jimin with his right hand stroke her long brown hair softly. Caressing her in the most adorable way. Myeong Jo couldn’t resist him so she stood with him like that. She needed to calm down. And he was the medicine.
“Please...don't leave me again.” she heard him muttering.
“I-I need to go somewhere.” She took the courage to speak.
“Andwae. I won't let you. I'm coming with you.” Jimin pulled away and held her shoulders.
“Last time, I didn’t accompany you and look what happened. I won't let that happen again. I'm coming with you.” he said firmly.
But Myeong Jo knew if he came with her, he would want to know every single thing. She had a slight idea of what was going. She couldn't tell him everything now.
She slid his hands away, surprising him.
“Trust me. I have to go somewhere. Don't stop me. I'll take some security guards.” she walked pass him quickly.
But he held her hand to stop her, “Where are you going? Y-You don't even remember anything.”
Myeong Jo gulped, “T-The library. I'm going there.”
She read in the diary that the real wife used to go to the libraries too. So Jimin built a grand library inside the castle just for her. Though she had plans to somewhere else.
“L-library?” Jimin asked, raising his eyebrows.
She nodded.
He let her go and immediately she ran off the room.
Myeong Jo took three royal bodyguards with her and told them to drive her to somewhere. The driver was surprised that the queen wanted to go to a local area. Still he had to drive there.
Myeong Jo looked outside through the glass window. Everything was same. The road, the houses, the buildings, the schools all were same as before. As if it was a different world.
The driver stopped at her destined place. Myeong Jo actually told the driver to go to her apartment. Where she and Yoon Gi used to live. She was about to open the car door when the bodyguard stopped her,
“Your Highness, you cannot go there. It's not safe for you to step out in the public. You are The Queen.”
“But I--” Myeong Jo's plan was to go meet her brother. She had a slight belief that Yoon Gi would be here.
“I have to meet someone.” She said, looking through the window.
The bodyguards were looking at each other. They had no idea why their Queen wanted to meet a commoner. She had no relatives as far as they knew.
“Can you tell us his name? We will call him here.” One of them suggested.
Myeong Jo shook her head, “No. Do one thing. Go to the 5th floor and the second flat should be his. A man named Min Yoon Gi. Ask if he lives there. If you find him, bring him over here to me.”
Two of the bodyguards went inside the apartment and followed her orders. She waited in the car. She really hoped her brother would be here.
After a while, the bodyguards came back and informed her that there was no Min Yoon Gi in the whole apartment. She was surprised to hear that. Her brother wasn’t in this place.
She thought for a while and told the driver to go to the office where Yoon Gi used to work.
The same thing. There was no employee called Min Yoon Gi. As if he just disappeared.
Myeong Jo was getting clear to her point. She had a guess about what was happening. And things were happening like as she thought. But still she didn’t want to pursue her theory yet.
She came back to the kingdom and made her way to the library. The library was so large with countless book shelves. She spent her time in there looking for the book she wanted.
After a long time, into the waves of books, she finally found the book she was looking for. She believed this book might contain the hidden mystery about everything.
THE PARALLEL UNIVERSE.
She sat on a comfy chair that Jimin specially made for her. Or should I say for his real wife. She opened the book and began reading every line with focus.
“A parallel universe, also known as a parallel dimension, alternate universe or alternate reality, is a hyphothetical self-contained place of existence, co-existing with one's own. It is also believed to be a completely different universe with everything as the same except for the living humans.
Scientists still haven’t found solid proof about it. They stated it may be fictional or illusional. No one has ever seen or felt or even been into another universe. So it is believed to be a false theory.
Still due to some evidences like the Bermuda Triangle and others, some scientists have a strong guess on parallel universe.”
She flipped another page,
“Based on children's books, it is said that parallel universe can be with everything exactly as the same as its existence or it can be a universe with only the difference between both the world's human world. Meaning, one person cannot be in the two universe.”
“It was once told by a fortuneteller that a person can only switch its existence to another world if his/her existence won't matter to anyone in his/her real world. The fortuneteller also added, no human can stay in another universe for eternity. They have to return to their own universe sooner or later. Scientists didn’t believe any of it though. As no one has ever experienced this parallel universe.”
Myeong Jo thought for a long time. Her being disappearing from that life won't make any difference to anyone. Yoon Gi won't look for her. He will instead be pleased that his burden vanished. He could live happily now. She had no friends who'll ask for her. In one word, she being gone won't affect the world.
Everything was same. Except for the human world and the ruling system. The whole world was same to the other. The buildings, the time, the institutes, the working ways everything is same. All could be possible if only this was...
A Parallel Universe.
Myeong Jo felt the whole sky fell on her head. She finally understood. She's in the parallel universe. A world exactly the same as the other. Yet different.
Was this even possible? She could be wrong too. These were believed as myths. But other than this, nothing seemed to fit. Other else why would everything turn this way? Why will she be transported here?
Speaking of which, why did she come here? Why did instead of dying, she came here? Why; whoever made her come here did this?
Myeong Jo tried to think very deeply. She thought everything but nothing fit. It was very surprising why it happened. Hours passed and she still sat on the chair; thinking and thinking. Anything that would explain.
Suddenly she clapped her hands excitedly as she had a slight guess, “The Neowise Comet!”
She recalled that before she fell down from the cliff, she wished stupidly upon the bright comet. She wished that she needed someone to change her life. She needed to be loved. And then she decided to jump.
Myeong Jo muttered under her breath, “The Neowise Comet! It was there that night. Before I would wish upon stars. None of them granted my wish. Until--”
The Neowise Comet granted her last wish.
The whole room fell into a big silence. She finally found her answer to her unknown questions.
Her life was miserable. As horrible and terrible as it could get. She wished to every myth, fairy tales for her to find someone that would love her, care for her. No one listened to her prayers or nothing granted her wishes.
That night, she was ready to end her life. With the Moon and The Neowise Comet as the witnesses, she one last time wished upon the comet to make her life a better life like an idiot. And she fell down.
Instead of dying, she woke up as another person with different identity. She woke up as The Queen of The Kingdom of Busan and the beloved wife of Park Jimin.
The Neowise Comet made her last wish come true. The comet transported her to another universe so that she could be loved, cared, trusted, happy.
Now all of these made sense. Myeong Jo finally let out a relief sigh. A sigh that she knew everything now. She was indead shocked a comet granted her wish come true. Now she could finally live in the life she always wanted. With Jimin beside her, she will be loved.
A smile was about to bloom on her lips. But something stopped her.
She couldn't stay here forever.
As per as the theory, no human can live her entire life in another universe. She had to go back someday.
The smile dropped down. Luck was never on her side. She could only stay in this world for a few days. But how long? She had to find out.
Myeong Jo stood up from the chair and walked. She was focused in thinking that she didn’t realize that she walked to the balcony. It was already night. There was a full moon and stars covered the whole sky.
She stared at the sky. She furrowed her eyebrows. How long could the comet give her? The time limit should be connected with the comet as the comet itself granted her wish.
Myeong Jo said to herself, “The Neowise Comet was supposed to be seen in the sky for 160 days. The night I was transported here, was its 7th day in the sky. That remains 153 days. I've been here for 4 days. So the comet will disappear from the sky---”
She paused for a moment.
“in 149 days.”
She looked at the sky again. Was this it? That she'll go back to her world along with the comet?
“So I only have 149 days...in here.”
