Chapter 27
Yoongi choked on his water and threw it all over the table. It was a matter of luck it didn't wet Myeong Jo.
"Say that again."
"Park Jimin is here in this universe. He's back." Myeong Jo repeated the same sentence but her elder brother took too much time to process her words, bewildered by her startling revelation.
He stared at her. "Are you kidding with me?"
"What? No! Why will I mention a joke like this? He's really back, Oppa. He's been following me for more than a week. Everywhere!"
She crossed her arms and leaned back in the chair. They were in Myeong Jo's apartment in the dining hall, taking their dinner.
Yoongi clenched his fists. "Where's that bastard?"
She widened her eyes. "Bastard? I thought you liked him."
"Need to remind you what he did to you? That thing he did that almost killed you; I will never forgive him. I really want to punch the shit out of his face and do so many things that—"
Myeong Jo sighed. "Oppa, come to the point. Jimin is following me everywhere I go. He shows up at my workplace and sits inside my room, he walks with me when I walk back. And if I ever feel like getting some fresh air and standing on the balcony, guess what? He's standing in front of my house too! I mean isn't he stalking me? And I can't even turn him away!"
She was feeling both conflicted and exasperated by Jimin's unexpected return. A part of her was happy to see him, but that didn't mean she should allow him in her life.
While she finished her meal and proceeded to wash her dish, Yoongi was still thinking of punishments for Jimin.
"I admit I didn't give him a chance to explain why and how he's here. But yesterday, he bought a hotel for himself! In my area! He's the reason the rumour about me getting married has spread all over Facebook. And he keeps smirking that he's gonna marry me and stuff."
When there was no response from her brother, she looked at him and found him deeply thinking about punishments, his fingers rubbing his chin.
"Oppa!" She shouted at him. "Stop thinking of punishments! It won't work. Think about how you can get rid of him.”
She sat on the white couch to watch TV. He walked towards her and sat beside her.
"Why do you want to get rid of him? You loved him.”
She glanced back at him and her cheeks reddened. "Umm...well—”
"Hey, you're confused about your feelings. You say you love him and the next second, you say you hate him. It's complicated, I can understand that." He patted her shoulder, understanding her internal struggle.
Her brother was right. She was uncertain about her current feelings for Jimin. "It's like if I see him, I always want to hug him. But something holds me off. I think it's that time. The time when he banished me from his heart and treated me like a criminal. That painful memory is stopping me from going back to him."
"Why will you go back to him? He hurt you. You can't just forget everything and run into his arms.” Yoongi leaned back against the couch and closed his eyes.
Myeong Jo sighed and forced her eyes on the TV.
"But how on earth did he get here? And why? You didn't ask him?" He asked, opening one eye.
"He said he's back for m-me,” She replied softly. "He said I was more important than his Kingdom. So he abdicated his throne, left everything behind and came here."
Yoon Gi thought, "Maybe he has a reason to do that."
She glared at her brother. "Don't tell me you're on his side!"
"Side? Of course not! I would like to punish that guy. But I'm just saying...why will he come here for no reason?" He hesitated before saying, “Maybe he still loves you."
The last sentence made her head spin with thoughts. There was no way Jimin loved her. Why would he? But the simple thought of him being in love with her made her heart skip a beat.
"That's ridiculous! That's not even possible. He loved his wife, n-not me.” She laughed nervously, suddenly feeling hot.
"No, hear me out. After you left, he felt guilty and missed you so much that he left his universe and came for you. Bingo!" He clicked his tongue in victory.
"That's just your theory," she stated back. Jimin would never do something like that for her.
Yoongi frowned and slumped back on the couch, thinking more theories. This revelation struck a chord with both of them, prompting them to consider the possibility of Jimin's genuine love and regret. But Myeong Jo was torn between her lingering affection for Jimin and the pain he had caused her in the past. She didn’t know what to make of this situation anymore.
"Wait, you said whenever you stand on the balcony, he is in front of your house, right?" He asked.
She nodded her head.
"That means he's down there right now?"
She nodded again, confused.
Yoongi wasted no time. He rushed to the balcony to catch a glimpse of Jimin.
"Oppa! Don't go there. If you want to see him, then look at him from the window!" She shouted with a whine.
Myeong Jo knew her brother admired Jimin. After all, Jimin was the first person to make his sister happy, took care of her and loved her even for a short while. He made her feel special. So the person who made her fall in love with him effortlessly, how could her brother not have respect for him?
Following his sister's words, he removed the curtains and peered out the window.
Jimin was really standing on the street.
"Goodness, he's really there. Oh my god! He's so much more handsome than you described. Wow... I can't believe I'm looking at Park Jimin right now." The way Yoongi was drooling over him, it was no doubt he earnestly acknowledged Jimin's profound impact on his sister.
"We should let him in. It's cold outside," Saying, he made his way towards the door.
It took her five seconds to realize what he just said. Myeong Jo gasped, stood up, hurried to the door herself and spread her hands to her sides to stop him.
"No! You can't!"
"Come on, Myeong Jo. Have a heart." Yoon Gi seemed to be in favor of Jimin.
"Have a heart? Oppa, he was the one that never loved me. He kicked me out of his life as soon as he heard the truth. How can you even think of letting him inside my house?" Her tongue tasted bitter.
Yoon Gi bit his bottom lip and said, "When did you become so aggressive? Jimin is here in this universe; leaving his family behind and crossing a universe! All for you! You didn't give him a single chance to explain himself. He's standing outside in the cold just to see you even if it's a glance. Just don't do this to him and let him in."
He walked past her but she yelled, "Why are you taking his side? I don't understand you! Not a few minutes ago, you were thinking about punishing him and now you are being Mother Theressa by letting him inside my apartment."
He chuckled slightly, but it wasn’t out of pure joy.
"You know what? We both don't know what to do with Jimin. We don't know whether to accept him or turn him away."
His words made her remember her life with Jimin in a brief second. They both found themselves grappling with conflicting emotions, uncertain of how to navigate the complexity of their feelings towards the other. They had no idea if Jimin was indeed a good person or not.
Her elder brother met her sorrowful gaze with a smile. "I'm gonna let him in. If you want, don't meet him. Let me talk to him and I'll see if my sister really deserves him," Saying, he walked out of the door.
You know what is the world's most annoying fact? When you can't have a decision for something. When you can't figure out whether you're right or wrong.
Yoongi had always shown his support during her challenging times. He always encouraged her to prioritize her own well-being, rather than dwelling on past emotions. Even now, he was trying to make sure the guy who claimed to love his sister, was actually being true to his words.
Curiosity got the better of her as she went to the same window and peeked from the curtains. She needed to hear their conversation.
She watched Yoongi approaching Jimin. He didn’t notice him because his back was turned. Her brother cleared his throat, which made the other turn around quickly.
"W-who are you?" Jimin asked politely.
Can't believe I'm talking to a King right now!
Myeong Jo was sure her brother was having that thought. She could hear their conversation quite well from the window.
"You're Park Jimin?" Yoongi asked.
He nodded.
"I'm Myeong Jo's elder brother, Min Yoon Gi."
Jimin looked way more surprised than she thought. His jaw dropped to a certain level like a child's. He bowed 90° to her brother and rambled, “Hello, Yoongi Hyung. I am Park Jimin. It's an honour to meet with you.”
Based on the sound of his voice, it was clear that he was very nervous. The thought made her smile unbeknownst to her.
"Hey, stand properly. No need to be so formal," Yoongi muttered annoyingly, embarrassed himself.
Jimin straightened his back and stood properly. He put his hands in front of him and lowered his head. Since he was acting like a gentleman, her brother must've fallen in love with him already.
"What are you doing here?" Yoongi asked.
The other blushed a little, rubbed his neck and stuttered, "Well... I actually...you see—"
He couldn't finish his sentence and stopped smiling.
“Spying on us?”
Jimin widened his eyes dramatically. “No! Not at all! I wasn’t spying on you. I was just...trying to see her.”
Her heart melted, but she pretended not to notice.
"Myeong Jo will not see you. She has probably locked herself in her room."
Jimin's lips automatically turned into a pout. His sadness was visible quite clearly on his face. As if his heart just broke when he heard she wouldn’t see him.
Yoongi pressed his lips into a straight line. “Listen, young man. I know everything about your relationship. I know what you did to my sister and you're lucky I haven't landed a punch on your face yet. But I also know crossing a universe for a girl is not an easy decision. So you better give me a good explanation about why you are here."
She wanted to hug her brother for mentioning everything exactly the way she wanted.
Jimim definitely didn't expect that question. His facial expression said it all. His lips parted for a short time before closing them. Nodding his head, he was about to explain himself but Yoongi had other plans.
“Come inside. You're gonna freeze out here.”
This was the part where her brother disappointed her. Myeong Jo quickly disappeared into her bedroom, shut the door and locked it. Even though she was interested in their conversation, she wasn't interested in facing Jimin and having her heart pace faster with butterflies tickling her soul. She won't let him have that effect on her, not anymore.
