Love

Love

Day took another swing of his beer as he watched a man get down on one knee next to his table in front of a woman, pulling a small box out of his pocket. He let out a sigh and chugged down the rest of his beer, standing up. Day pulled out his wallet, pulled out a twenty and dropped it on the bar, leaving the restaurant as he heard everyone start cheering and clapping for the now engaged couple. He walked through the dark Starlight City, stumbling slightly from how drunk he was.

Day thought back to earlier that day with a sad sigh. Today was the day he was going to ask out Amelia, a new recruit that had joined his Special Forces division.

She wasn't like the other girls he had met. Amelia didn't even know who he was when she first entered his division and Day was grateful for that because all of the other girls who joined either one of his divisions had only joined that division because of him, not because they wanted to or had the skills to. She had long light brown hair with blonde highlights, a pink heart shaped amulet, a black and green jacket over a white and blue undershirt, white shorts with pink lining, black fingerless gloves, and light blue shoes but the thing that stood out the most were her eyes.

Her eyes were just like Day's, a light green with a golden tint in them. It was obvious to most of the recruits and the Rebels that the two liked each other and with the help of Cory, Day had finally gotten the courage to ask her out... What Day didn't expect to happen was her to have a boyfriend who happened to be twice the size of himself. Day winced each time he took a step, limping through the streets and back to the Rebels' house. Once he got to the house, he stared at the door before sitting on the steps and putting his face in his hands as tears threatened to spill.

Day was never good at keeping relationships with girls because it always ended up with him somehow messing up in some way. Love was never part of his life because of the way his parents were to him. Everyone hated him for some reason and Day never found out why. That lead him to realize that maybe he was incapable of loving someone at all... Well, except when Cory came into his life.

Cory was all that Day had throughout his childhood and Cory always found some way to make him smile even through the hardest of times. He made Day realize that he was capable of doing anything he put his mind to and promise him that he would never give up. Day let out a choked sob, realizing that he was breaking Cory's promise.

Day was giving up and done with love. After he had seen Amelia's boyfriend, instead of facing him, he tried to run away but for a big guy, Amelia's boyfriend was quick and beat Day up... The sad thing was that Day just let him. He was done with trying to find love and instead of doing something or calling one of the Rebels for help, he became a coward and chose to drink away his sorrows which didn't help much.

"Let me guess," Day heard a familiar voice say from behind him and he turned to see Soro standing there, blanket draped over her arm and holding two steaming cups. She handed a cup to Day and put the blanket across his shoulders, sitting down next to him. "You tried to ask that Amelia girl out, found out she has a boyfriend, let him beat you up instead of fighting when you knew that you could have taken him down though he was twice your size, walked to a bar, had a couple of beers until you saw a man ask a woman to marry him, and then walked back here... Am I missing anything?" Soro asked, leaving Day in shock as he stared down at the cup of hot chocolate in his hands for a while.

"How did you know?" Day asked, looking between the cup and Soro.

"Cory told me about what you were going to do and I waited for you to come home so I could congratulate you on your success but when I saw you walking towards the house, I put two and two together and got four," She said with a shrug. Day smiled slightly at her attempt of a joke to cheer him up before he sighed again, looking towards the sky.

"I meant about the hot chocolate but I guess that works too," Day said, glancing at Soro and earning himself a playful yet hard punch to the shoulder.

"Shut up, you idiot," Soro said, annoyed as she rolled her eyes. Day let out a small chuckle and the two sat in silence for a little while before it was broken by Day.

"You know... I thought this time it would be different," He said with a slight shrug. Soro looked at him with a confused look.

"What do you mean?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.

"I mean, her. Amelia. I thought she would be different and would actually be the one who was right for me. Part of me told myself that she was going to be the one and we were going to be happy together but she was like all of the other ones... Makes me wonder if I should just give up on trying to find love. Maybe I'm incapable of love..." Day said, trailing off. Soro didn't say anything for a while which scared him and when he turned to look at her, he was slapped in the face hard.

"Don't you ever say something like that, Daniel Ryder! You are better than that and you know it! Just because something gets hard in your life doesn't mean that you should just give up. Love is hard and it sucks at times especially when the other person doesn't even realize how much you love them. Trust me, I know but that doesn't mean that I think I'm incapable of loving someone. It just means that maybe these things are meant to happen so I can be prepared for next time in case it happens again... You can't just give up. You're not like that so stop acting like someone else and be the Daniel Ryder that I met and have become great friends with because I'd love to speak to him. Can you do that for me?" Soro asks, tears brimming her eyes as she puts her hand on Day's cheek so he's looking at her. They stare at each other for a minute or so before Day nods and Soro drops her hand to her side, her cheeks red from embarrassment.

"Thank you... For telling me that. I really needed it," Day says, looking at the sky with a small smile on his face. Soro looks over at him and nods, putting her hand on top of his and looking towards the sky as well.

"No problem. That's what friends are for, aren't they?" Soro asks. Day nods once, laying his head on Soro's shoulder. She smiles and pats his head. "Besides, Amelia was horrible anyways. Cory told me all about her and how he heard her gossiping about you like the other girls do," Soro says and Day chuckles, sighing.

"Well, I don't blame them for gossiping about me. I am pretty amazing," He says and earns himself a flick to his head. "Yeah. I kind of deserved that one," Day says with a laugh and he closes his eyes, immediately falling asleep on Soro's shoulder.

"What am I going to do with you?" Soro asks, shaking her head. She looks at the sleeping figure on her shoulder. She looks back at the sky with a wide smile and a slight blush on her cheeks

"You're so lucky I love you, Daniel Ryder..."
