Chapter 28: DTM (Dylans Treehouse Makeover)

It was a chilly afternoon as the pups all played outside. Dylan was up in his treehouse reading his book about space when suddenly Charlie appeared.

"Hey Dylan whatcha reading?" He asked.

"Oh hey Charlie just reading about space." He explained.

"Oh fun." Charlie said as he looked around the treehouse, he noticed that it looked mostly rotten and old, "Hey Dylan, how old do you think this treehouse is?" He asked to which Dylan looked around.

"Now that you mentioned it, I remember it being here when we first moved in, but with all this London weather we're having I'm pretty sure it still strong." Dylan explained.

"I'm just asking, have you ever thought of remodeling?"

"Charlie Charlie Charlie." Dylan laughed and stretched, "This treehouse of mine can stand all of London's weather and more so..." Before he could finished he suddenly fell through the floor.

"DYLAN!" Charlie screamed as he hurried to the hole only to see a hurt Dylan groaning, other pups stopped what they were doing and ran over to Dylan to see if he was all right, "Are you alright?!" He called down only to get a groan as he response.

Later

"Ow." Dylan cried out in pain as Delilah held an icepack over his leg.

"Oh you poor thing, I've should have known this was gonna happen." She stated.

"Am I going to be alright mom?" Dylan asked.

"Oh your going to be alright, the worse you did was sprained your ankle." She explained to which he sighed in relief.

"How long will he be down?" Charlie asked.

"Eh maybe for two days, if he stays rested and doesn't bother his ankle." She explained, "I suggested that Dylan stays here and rests."

"Good idea."

"Well I have to go to work, make sure Dylan stays rested."

"Yes ma'am."

"Good see you when I get back."

"By mom." Dolly smiled as Delilah left the house.

"I'm sorry for what happened to you Dylan." Charlie said petting Dylan.

"It's okay Charlie it's not your fault."

"Hey I have an idea, I'll make it up to you."

"How?'

"We'll remodel."

"Remodel?! Oh No!" Dylan yelled before wincing in pain.

"Bro come on a change can be wonderful thing." Dolly explained.

"But I like the way things are with my treehouse."

"But what if we made it better than your old tree house, some new boards, a splash of paint, and it be a whole new experience." Charlie explained to which Dylan didn't seemed approved, "Look it's something nice from us to you."

"Well alright, but screw it up."

"Alright thanks Dylan, alright Dolly you ready?"

"Oh I was born ready."

Later

"Ugh I'm so bored." Dolly said as she laid on some boards.

"Oh come on Dolly it's not like this will magically grow on its own over night we need to be careful."

"Yeah but this is gonna take forever." She complained as she looked around, "We Haven't even begin to build anything."

"Well we did tear down the old tree house that was fun right?"

"I mean I guess, but I was hoping for more of tearing it apart instead of bit by bit."

"We didn't want to damage the tree." Charlie said as started drawing on a piece of paper, "Besides we can't just build whatever we want willy nilly, we need a plan." He explained holding up the large piece of paper, "See?"

"Why is it blue?" Dolly asked.

"It's called a blueprint, it's used as a guild for projects such as building and other stuff, it's complicated on why it's blue, but I think it's because it makes it easier to find when your working." Charlie explained.

"Well let's hurry and build!" Dolly said grabbing a hammer with her mouth but Charlie grabbed it as well.

"Hang on a micro second, do you even know what you doing?"

"Pfft I got it." Dolly smiled, "Cue Building Montage!" She announced.

Montage

Charlie was reading off of the blueprint when he looked over to see Dolly trying to carrying boards with Dizzy and DeeDee on top of it.

Charlie was sawing a board with Dolly as an anchor but when the board finally gave way Dolly slid off landing on the ground with a thud.

The foundation was just built and Dolly was a pulling rope on a makeshift pulley system lifting up a bucket of nails. Suddenly she tripped and flew back but the nails were caught just in time, Charlie grabbed and gave a thumbs up to her which she sighed and laid her head down.

Charlie was holding a wall frame up with the help of Dante, Dolly was down below holding the rope again once they leveled out the wall Charlie hammered down the frame down on the floor, he gave a signal for more nails which Dolly saw as the ok sign. She let go of the rope causing the fall frame to fall onto Charlie, with Dante being lucky as his body fitted in between the frame, Dolly winched and whistled off in a different direction.

After a few more slapstick humor and hard work, the new treehouse was almost complete.

"Well we did it." Charlie said petting Dolly on the head.

"We sure did, now what."

"Well now we get to do the fun l part."

"And that is?"

"What else painting!"

"Painting? I heard painting!" Da-Vinci appeared out of nowhere.

"Ah Da-Vinci perfect timing, would you like to help us with painting?"

"Do I?!" She asked excited, "I... I mean yes Charlie I would love to help." She smiled.

"Well me and Dolly are going to take a rest, you can get started."

"I'll see what I can do." She said hurried over to the treehouse.

"Well I'm starving I'm gonna make myself a sandwich, you wanna come inside Doll?"

"Nah I'll catch up, I'll go and see if Da-Vinci needs help."

"Dolly you're not a machine, rest up."

"Pfft don't worry I won't do anything."

"Uh huh." Charlie stated as he went inside leaving Dolly to grin as she ran to Da-Vinci who was pondering what to use.

"Hey Da-Vinci need some help?"

"Oh not right now Dolly, and didn't Charlie told you to rest?"

"I mean yeah but this is the fun part."

"Well I mean it's not exactly as fun as you think."

"Oh come on it's just throwing up paint." She stated which she lifted up a paint can and was about to throw the paint onto the treehouse.

"Dolly Wait!" Da-Vinci warned but was too late Dolly tripped over a plug and accidentally threw the paint bucket at the treehouse which splatted onto the tree and house.

"Whew." Dolly sighed in relief, but from the force of paint bucket made the tree shake just enough for a sander to fall and hit the floor causing it to turn on automatically and running over its own cord, good news is that after running over it cords it shaved through them turning off the sander, unfortunately after going through the layers of wires cause sparks.

"What's that smell?" Da-Vinci asked sniffing the air as did Dolly.

"Uh oh." Dolly gasped as she saw a bit of smoke coming from the window of the treehouse.

"Fire!"
"Fire!"
"There's Fire!" The pups outside freaked out.

"Don't worry I got it!" Dolly yelled out as she hurried over to where the hose is held only to find it hanging up, "Ugh Dylan!" She groaned as she hurried back, but suddenly stopped to see a bucket of something, "I hope this works." She said grabbing the bucket and hurrying over, "Don't worry everyone I got it!"

"Wait Dolly that's!.." Da-Vinci to say but Dolly already threw the content at the flames, "Paint thinner..." Suddenly the entire treehouse was caught in flames.

"What's going on out here!?" Charlie asked and gasped seeing the treehouse on fire, "Dolly!"

Later

The firemen drove off after successfully putting out the fire leaving a destroyed treehouse ready to collapse. Dylan sighed at the sight of his tree house.

"Sorry buddy, at least nothing important was in there."

"That's true." Dylan sighed as he went into the house.

"And as for you Dolly." Charlie looked over to her putting his hands on his hips.

"I know, 'Dolly went to far this time'." She said.

"Exactly, what were you thinking?!"

"I just wanted to help." She said in defense which Charlie sighed and kneeled down.

"Dolly you were working with all day, you didn't have to keep going, we all need breaks otherwise we all could get hurt." He explained as he petted her head, "Just remember that next time okay?" He asked to which she sighed.

"Alright Charlie, I'm sorry."

"Hey don't apologize to me you gotta apologize to Dylan, now I'm going to help him make dinner, you stay out of trouble."

"I'll try." She said as Charlie went into the house.

"Well now what Dolly?"
"Yeah now what?" Dizzy and DeeDee asked.

"Well what's the plan Dolly?" Da-Vinci asked her older sister.

"I don't know guys."

"Oh don't be like Dolly, you can make it up to Dylan by rebuilding the treehouse." Da-Vinci suggested.

"Oh I don't know Da-Vinci I messed up."

"We can help you Dolly!"
"Yeah we can help!" Dizzy and DeeDee jumped up and down with enthusiasm.

"Y-you think?"

"Believe me, it's the best thing to do." Da-Vinci said hugging her sister like Dolly would to Dylan to which Dolly hugged back.

"Alright then let's do this!" Dolly said with determination.

That Night

Charlie placed food bowls down on the table and looked out the window.

"Man it's getting late, I hope Dollys okay."

"She's been really busy fixing her mistake earlier." Dawkins explained.

"What?!" He hurried outside, "Dolly!" He called out.

"Yeah?"

"W-what are you doing?!"

"Oh me, Dizzy, DeeDee, and Da-Vinci put together the treehouse."

"Without my supervision?"

"Well we thought we could make it up to you." Da-Vinci explained.

"Look we could have done when it's light out, it's way more dangerous when you have no light at all."

"Don't worry Charlie we'll be fine, we got light inside."

"Well... Alright but please come inside and we can finish it in the morning." Charlie said as he went back in the house.

"Alright Da-Vinci let's hurry and get this finish." Dolly said as she hurried off.

"I don't know Dolly maybe Charlie's right it is getting really hard to see, and I wouldn't want us to get hurt."

"Oh don't worry Da-Vinci liked I told Charlie we have light."

"Where?"

"Dawkins." She called out for, right on cue he flipped a switch down below which lit up christmas lights that Dolly had put up on the treehouse.

"Ohhh." Da-Vinci oogled at the sight of colorful lights, "I guess we are back in business huh Dolly."

"That's right Da-Vinci now let's hurry and get this finish, I bet I can see the look on Charlie's face when he sees what we did."

Next Morning

"DOLLY WHAT HAVE YOU DONE!" Charlie's voice could be heard outside which startled both Dolly and Da-Vinci who were both fast asleep.

"Oh, oh hey Charlie do you like it?" Dolly asked with a very sleepy tone.

"Like it?! Word's can not describe this!" He yelled.

"That's a good thing right?"

"NO!"

"Oh he sounds very angry." Da-Vinci stated as she sort of hid from Charlie's sight.

"Oh come on what could he be mad about?"

Dolly came down to inspect the work they've done... Only to be horrified by the "treehouse". It was was completely lopsided, the roof was completely crooked, paint was all over the place, and on top of it  all it looked very unsafe.

"Yeah as you can see, this looks horrible, why didn't you wait?"

"Well I thought we can try and make it up to you." Dolly explained, to which Charlie sighed.

"Look Dolly I appreciate your help, but you have to at least let me see your work before..." He started to say but looked back at the treehouse, at first he noticed Da-Vinci who was trying to hide from his vision but the he started to look at the treehouse itself, "Hang on." He stated while putting hands up putting his thumbs together, closing one eye as if he's seeing through something, "Dolly I think you gave me a great idea!"

"I-I did?"

"Quick grab me some tools I have an idea." Charlie said as he ran up to the treehouse.

Later

"Alright Dylan you ready?" Dolly asked her blindfolded brother who she led outside.

"I've had my eyes closed this entire time." He said running into the door, "Ow Dolly."

"Oops sorry bro just too excited to show you your brand new ultra cool." She said dramatically taking the blindfold off him, "TREEHOUSE!" She gestured over which in response Dylan gasped in awe, the treehouse edges were smoothed out and rounded to look like a spaceship, it was also painted with wild metal like colors thanks to Da-Vinci.

"Well what do you think?" Charlie asked.

"I love it!" He said before hurrying towards his new treehouse.

"It took us a while to finally get something that represents you." Charlie explained before looking down at Dolly who smiled back.

"It's amazing! I love everything about it!"

"Wait till you see what's inside."

"There's more?!" Dylan asked.

"Come on up Dylan." Da-Vinci said pushing down the rope ladder for Dylan to climb up on, once he reached the top he was in awe at the sight, it looked very spacious but the one thing that hot his attention was a see through some on the top.

"I know you love staring at the stars so we thought why not give you a window to do so and the best part is." Charlie grabbed a ladder and climbed up to the dome where he took a hammer and hit the dome, "It's made out of a clear plexy plastic so you don't have to worry about it shattering on you."

"Wow guys, I just... Don't know what to say."

"Well first I just wanna apologize to Charlie, I'm sorry that rushed ahead without you." Dolly apologized to which Charlie petted her head.

"Awww it's okay Dolly, it was only a mistake."

"I should apologize as well, I wanted to help Dylan, I uh guess I shouldn't have jumped ahead like that." Da-Vinci said with a bit of sadness but Charlie scratched her ear.

"Don't worry you two, it was a mistake and we fixed it, and not only did we fix it we made it better." Charlie said as they see Dylan rolling around on the floor happy as can be.

"Yeah I guess your right."

"Come on you two, a long day deserves a long rest." Charlie suggested as he climbed down the ladder, "Oh Dylan you gonna okay for a bit?"

"Oh yeah I'll be fine."

"Great, Dolly and Da-Vinci and I deserve a much needed..." Before he could finished he sees Dolly and Da-Vinci both cuddled together sleeping peacefully, "Well I guess just me." He laughed as he walked back to the house leaving Dylan to his brand new treehouse.
