Chapter 1
I hope this re-write is enjoyable! Tell me what you think of it :)
Third Person POV
The girl just stood there, stunned at what had just happened. She stared down at the lifeless body at her feet, a bloody katana - her bloody katana - in her hand. Her once bright eyes wide, unblinking. Having not processed what had just happened, she just stood there. For what felt like hours, but was actually minutes.
There, lay the corpse of Vialolis, the main enemy of the Nakamari clan. The girl, after what seemed like hours, felt a hand on her shoulder. She turned, her gaze fixing on a boy her age, with purple, almost black hair, and similar colour eyes.
"You should get some rest." The boy says, eyes almost like a void, mimicking her same gaze. The girl simply nods, walking away, not bothering to look at the corpses of her family as well as the enemies.
War. It was a terrible thing, ripping lives and things of the like apart. The people who survived it were left scarred for the rest of their life, whether the pain was physical or not. It was something no-one should have to go through, let alone a 12 year old girl. Reitanna Nakimari was unfortunate enough to be the one to have to end this war, being one of the last members of her clan left standing. Everyone else was too...damaged, one way or another.
Reitanna enters the main building, one of the only buildings left standing, which has been half destroyed. Gaining stares from more lifeless eyes, she looks up, and a lone tear rolls down her cheek as she sees her younger sister. She was only two, ten years younger that Reitanna. "Come forward, sister," Reitanna says, attempting a smile for her dear sibling. She toddled over and gave her older sister a hug. "Rei-chan...where is mama and papa?" She asks, a worried look on her face. Reitanna frowns, attempting to smile, though she was sure it looked more like a grimace than anything else.
"They're...resting"
"resting?"
"Yes. They're having a long rest."
"When will they wake up?"
The girl paused, exhaling a shuddered breath. "I am not sure. But one day, we will see out mother and father again. And they'll be alive- awake."
Reitanna hears a soft sniff, and looks up to see her aunt. She takes a deep breath, and approaches her broken aunt; The only thing keeping her from insanity were her remaining family. She stops in front of her aunt's dirty feet, and wraps her just-as-dirty arms around her slouching torso.
"Rei..." Is all she managed to say, before more sobs escaped her dry mouth. "It's ok, Aunty. It will be ok. I will make sure of that..." She says to her crying aunt. She looks up at the greenette just in time to see her walking towards the door.
As she exits the tattered building, the boy with the blackish-purplish hair approaches her. "What did I say? Go inside and rest!" He says, clearly worried for the girl. "You're not my brother, or my dad. Let me do this," She says calmly, waiting for the boy's response. "No! Go inside! You already killed that guy-"
"I don't care! I'm gonna go to the past and fix this! All I need to do is kill him - before this mess started - and it will all be over!" She explains to the boy, trying her best not to break. "But-"
"DAICHI!" Reitanna snaps. The two just stared at each other until Reitanna turned around, and walked to the centre of the corpse-garden. She closed her eyes, but when they were open, they had turned to a golden-whitish colour. She held her hand out, and as quick as that, she had summoned a key- made by her ancestors- that she would use to teleport.
"You're not gonna-"
"YES, I AM. I AM GOING TO BRING EVERYONE BACK." Reitanna exclaimed, pausing. She averted her gaze, her eyes full of what could only be described as despair, "I have to."
Reitanna was always confident, if not stubborn. Getting her to stop would be hard. It always had been - but that stubbornness is what led to the ultimate defeat of the Nakimari's rival clan. And for that, everyone was grateful.
Focusing her chakra on the key, she opened a white portal. The Nakimari clan's kekkai genkai was a unique thing - it gave them the ability to use portals. Only a select few of the clan could actually use their portals to teleport, otherwise the user of said kekkai genkai could time travel. Although a rare occasion, at times a member of the Nakimari clan would have visions. They have no control over these visions, and they are of very random things.
Different coloured portals led to different locations - the most commonly used were the red and orange portals, orange leading to the past and red the future. Blue portals are used to teleport, although when chakra levels are low they tend to take on a green hue, oddly enough. The portals appear white then location or time in 'unselected', as you may say.
Reitanna was about to set the time to before the war started, 3 and a half years ago, but was disturbed by Daichi. "I just had another vision!" He shrieked, catching Reitanna's attention. "What happened?" She asked, hoping that her plan worked. "I saw you...with a blond boy who had whisker marks on his cheeks. You were eating what appeared to be some kind of noodles." He says.
Noodles? Her mind thought about different scenarios and why this would be happening. Maybe she was looking for help, or maybe he was associates with the enemy and she was trying to earn his trust so that she could eventually destroy him. But her future self wouldn't do it for a bad reason.
"1000 years..." He says, sounding unsure. "Pardon? 1000 years? Come on. Your future vision must be playing tricks on you. It happens to everyone sometimes," She says, sounding partially unsure, but partially sure at the same time.
The greenette sighed, and turned to look at the red portal. She put the key back into storage, her eyes once again returning to a green colour. She put one foot inside the red gateway, careful not to touch the noir coloured void that laced the edges. Being sucked into the void would most definitely not help revive her clan. She puts the other in, and the rest of her body is pulled in, as quick as lightning.
The inside of the portal was like being stuck inside a storm, but significantly more bright. Harsh winds would push and pull, as if they were children fighting for the same toy. The bright lights were almost blinding, a result of Reitanna's low chakra bank, she was sure. Having low chakra can have odd effects on their kekkai genkai.
Maybe it was the initial trauma that prevented her from realising. Maybe it was the sheer determination the pre-teen felt to bring her family back. Maybe it was a combination of the two - but somehow, against all the odds, Reitanna found herself in a portal to the future, about to undergo an adventure she had never thought she would experience.
When she came out from the other end, she turned to close the portal- only to notice that it was not there. The greenette furrowed her eyebrows, taking on a fighting stance as she recalled the events from earlier - and then it hit her.
The girl felt her breath begin to quicken as panic settled in. That couldn't be good. She was in the past, and her portal was nowhere to be seen. Was Daichi right? He couldn't be. There was no way that Reitanna was 1000 years in the future.
