Chapter 30
"Guys, look what the Garrison got me." Shiro took everyone outside. "It's the Paladin Van!"
"Huh?" Allura asked. "The Paladin Van?"
"The Palavan."
"It's an upgraded mini van. I asked for it specifically for saving the universe and stuff. There's a seat for everyone so we can go on a road trip. Go get some stuff, I have a surprise!"
An hour later, everyone met up again.
"Me, Keith and Rora are taking the boot." Pidge said.
"You have your own seats, though. Plus, that's highly dangerous." Shiro said.
"Drive careful, then, we're taking the boot."
"I wanna sit with Keith, though." Lance said.
"Turn around and talk to us. It's fine."
"Um, Shiro, I get really car sick, can I sit in the front?" Hunk asked.
"Hunk, you've literally been on a spaceship hurtling through space for the last 4 years." Lance said.
"And I still will probably get carsick."
"Yes, you can sit in the front." Shiro said. "I'm driving. Kassy, Veronica, you're here, Lance, you were next to Keith but he has other plans. Romelle, Allura, Coran, you're here."
At that moment, Matt ran out. "Are you guys going on a road trip? I wanna come!"
"Is there enough space?" Allura asked.
"There wouldn't have been if those 3 actually went in their assigned seat, but because they aren't, yes you can come." Shiro said. "Take Pidge's seat, next to Kassy."
"I will absolutely take a seat next to Kassy."
"That's not an invitation to flirt with me, Matthew Holt." Kassy crossed her arms before laughing. Everyone piled into the Palavan, and Shiro got driving.
"Has everyone got their seatbelts on?" Coran asked.
"I don't!" Romelle replied.
"Romelle! Put your seatbelt on or you will immediately die!" Coran said.
"That's a little misleading." Shiro said. "It'll reduce any damage if we get into a crash, so it's important you wear one, but you won't immediately die."
"Alright."
Veronica and Kassy proceeded to send each other GIFs of cats dancing for the entire journey, despite being sat right next to each other. The two would burst into giggles every few minutes, followed by them sighing blissfully and looking into each others eyes, while Matt attempted to see what they were laughing at.
Meanwhile, the gremlins in the boot put on Markiplier's FNaF series. Lance kept turning around to try to talk to them, however he received minimal response.
"I have an idea!" Romelle said. "Now is an excellent chance to teach everyone the Altean alphabet!"
Coran nodded. "Yes! One, two, three! Exus, plexus..."
Shiro slowly turned the radio up.
And it turns out Hunk was correct - somehow, 4 years on a spaceship was nothing compared to the motion sickness he would get in a car.
After a few hours, the group arrived at a theme park.
"A theme park? Oh, no, I dont do rides." Hunk said.
"You will after today." Rora said.
"What is this place?" Coran asked. "It looks like some kind of really weird prison. Have you brought us to prison, Shiro? I swear, I was a young Altean, I wasn't aware that knifes were dangerous, I-"
"It's a theme park, Coran. It's got rides and it's fun."
"Fun? Oh! That's alright, then."
Shiro got tickets, which he got for free considering the Paladins of Voltron thing, and the group went in.
"I missed Earth so much, guys." Rora smiled. "It's so nice things are normal."
Pidge nodded. "Yeah. Look at these roller coasters! The mathematics is so incredible!"
"Come on, Keith, we're going on the ghost train." Lance took his hand, and pulled him away.
"Oh, okay, bye guys." Keith said.
"Pidge, come on. Let's get the big ones out of the way."
Shiro turned to Kassy and Veronica, who were gazing at each other lovingly.
"What are you guys doing?"
Neither of them answered.
"Kassy? Veronica?"
There was no reply.
"Eh, leave them, they're in love." Matt said. "Shiro, let's go on the Dodgems."
"Alright. Guys, will you be okay?" He asked the remaining people. "If you need anything, just give me a call, okay?"
"Got it, chief." Coran replied as Matt and Shiro ran off.
Hunk looked at the Alteans. "Umm... anything you guys wanna go on?"
Coran glanced around. "I will assess each ride to see if it's okay for the princess."
Romelle raised her hand. "I would like to go on the... the spinning Kaltenecker!"
"The Carousel? Those aren't cows, they're horses."
"What on Earth is a cow? Let's go! I saw a picture of one and I've wanted to go on one since!"
Romelle dragged Hunk away. The others followed, and Coran watched the ride in action. "Hm... this is far too dangerous, Princess. You could get hurtled off at high speeds and really hurt your... leg... or something!"
"Oh. Okay."
"Well, Hunk and I are going on." Romelle said, and Coran and Allura watched, Romelle shouting "wheee!" the whole time she was on it.
After they got off, Romelle did not anticipate the weak knees, and lost balance. Coran caught her, and stood her up again.
"See! This place is positively barbaric!"
"I'm having such a good time!" Romelle ran off, doing a cartwheel, and disappearing off somewhere.
"We'd best find her. She has no sense of direction and she'll get lost very easily." Allura sighed, and they went off to find her.
Lance and Keith returned to the meet-up spot, where Kassy and Veronica had literally not moved a muscle. However, they were pulled from their trance when they heard Lance sobbing loudly.
"Is he okay? Did something happen? Did you hurt my baby brother?" Veronica got all up in Keith's face, who backed away.
"No, I didn't. The ghost train was too scary for Lance."
"There was ghosts!" Lance sobbed, resting his head in Keith's shoulder. Keith gave him a little pat on the head.
Kassy looked around, pretending she didn't know them, and found Matt and Shiro.
"Kerberos!" she yelled, running over. In stilettos. "Jesus, would have been nice for you to tell me not to wear high heels, Shiro."
"I'll give you a piggyback, Kassy." Matt smiled.
"You can shut up or Ill send you back to Kerberos." she grabbed Shiro's real arm. "I'm pretending I don't know Lance. He's upset because the ghost train had ghosts."
The group of three walked. "That's your future brother in law." Shiro said. Kassy sighed and nodded.
"I'm well aware."
Then, they saw Romelle, running around like a crazy woman, with Coran, Allura, and Hunk following behind her.
"Shiro, Matthew, Kassy, this place is like... it's like cocaine buildings!"
"Romelle, you need to chill. Hey, let's get some food." Hunk grabbed her arm. "Hey, you'll like this."
Hunk went and bought some candy floss and gave it to her. She took a bite, and her expression changed, to being completely serious.
"Romelle? Are you alright?" Coran asked.
"This is the best thing I've ever had in my mouth, and I once sucked off my friend's really hot dad."
The group said nothing as she ran off again, candy floss in hand.
Pidge and Rora saw the three of them, and rejoined them.
"Ew, who's that?" Rora asked pointing at Matt.
"Ew, he's so ugly." Pidge replied.
"At least you know for definite I'm a he." Matt smacked Pidge over the head.
Shiro shook his head. "At least I know Kassy can act like an adult."
"For you, anything." she smiled. "And that's why we have a child together."
"Did I just see Romelle run off with some candy floss?" Pidge asked.
"Yes, you did." Shiro said. "She's having the time of her life."
"What about everyone else?"
"Lance is scared, Keith and Veronica are trying to help him, Hunk, Allura and Coran are trying to keep up with Romelle, and then, you guys are here."
"I'm going back to my fiancée." Kassy said, running off, falling over in her stiletto, before pulling them off and running back.
"Where's Hunk? I need to force him onto a roller coaster before we leave." Rora.
The group found Hunk.
"Hunk. It's time." Rora said.
"I'm not ready."
"You'll never be ready, you just need to get it over with. Come on, we'll just go on the Caterpillar and then I'll leave you alone." Rora said.
Hunk sighed. "You promise you won't harass me anymore?"
She nodded. "Let's do it."
They found the Caterpillar. As they went on, Hunk started hyperventilating.
"You'll be okay. Squeeze my hand." Rora said.
After the ride was done, Hunk jumped off.
"Wooo! What a rush!" he yelled. "Let's go on more rides!"
A few hours later, the Paladins were very tired, and they piled back into the Palavan.
Nobody had the energy to sing the Altean alphabet, so they sat in silence.
On the way back, Shiro went over a bump, sending the gremlins in the boot rolling over each other.
The only person who kept up their energy was Romelle, until the sugar rush wore off and she fell asleep on a very unimpressed Coran.
After arriving home, they all said goodnight and just went to bed.
