Chapter 100

100 !!! has to be this doesn't it

With an air of nervous excitement, Kassy fixed her wedding dress over her chest. She looked at herself in the mirror, before looking back at the group behind her.

Lance, Coran, Rora, Mateo, Colleen, Elrine, and Lotor all looked upon her with soft smiles. Ulaz beamed up at her.

"Mommy, you look so pretty!"

A smile crossed her face, and her eyes filled with tears. "Thank you, baby."

"Well, at least you've had practice walking down the aisle." Coran said. "You look much happier this time though, I must say."

"I'm nervous. But I don't have a feeling of dread like I did last time. I put that down to nerves last time, but I can tell now what it really was."

"Make this one last longer than a month, hey, Kassy?" Lance laughed. "Look, no hard feelings for divorcing my sister. And, I have to say, there was a very good reason you were my celebrity crush when I was 15. Because, goddamn."

Kassy laughed as Colleen came over, smoothing out her skirt. "Well, he's right, sweetheart. I hope Shiro tells you how beautiful you are." She paused, smiling at her. "I know things weren't amazing with your mom. And I know you wanted to make things better. And I'm not trying to replace her, but... God, you make me proud."

Mateo nodded. "She's right. I know I've not been there your whole life. I would have been had I known about you, I can assure you of that. But I am so grateful to have a daughter I can have so much pride in."

Kassy looked up at her father, taking in his features. How she matched him so much more than her mother. She nodded, blinking a few tears away.

"You look so hot." Rora said. "Like, don't tell Acxa I said this, but your boobs? Goddamn. Shiro's so lucky."

"Thank you, Rora." Kassy replied. "And thanks for making me this dress. It's so much better than anything I could have got in the store."

"It's what I do best." Rora shrugged.

"Guys, this has been lovely, but we do need to head to the church now." Coran interrupted.

"Here we go, Kassy! Kiss the Blackwood surname goodbye!" Elrine squeezed her hands.

"I just realised the Blackwood name dies today. I'm the youngest living Blackwood." Kassy said.

"Damn." Lance said. "I guess it's the end of an era. You don't have to take his surname if you don't wanna, you know?"

"No, no, I know. But... I want to. The Blackwoods were built on a cycle of abuse. Let's put that to bed."

The group piled into the car and headed to the church. It was a little cold, but as they headed inside, nobody could truly care.

Keith stood with Shiro in silence, as best man.

"You feeling ready?" Keith asked after a moment.

"I've been in love with the woman since I was 19. Of course I'm ready. God, I love her so much."

"Based on those messages you sent the groupchat? I can tell."

Shiro gave a soft chuckle. "I guess so."

"Never imagined I'd be married before you. I thought you'd have married Curtis."

Shiro sighed softly. "He was nice. But not for me. I... I couldn't marry someone else knowing my perfect person was right there."

Shiro took a few breaths as guests came in to sit down. Sam, followed by Matt and Daisy, Matt with his daughter in arms, patted his shoulder.

"Half of the Kerberos team are getting married today. Isn't it strange how life turns out?"

Shiro laughed softly. "I've never been more ready."

Matt smiled. "Marrying Daisy was the second happiest day of my life."

"What was the first?" Daisy asked.

"Discovering boobs."

The group went and sat. Soon enough, the organ started, and the bridal party started moving in. Shiro smiled down at these people he knew and loved, until he caught sight of her face.

Kassy held onto her father's arm, who gazed at her with a gentle, loving expression. It was as if the world stopped then: all that mattered in that moment was Kassy's smile.

She joined him at the top and took his hand. Immediately, their eyes seemed to well up simultaneously, and they laughed softly.

"Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to celebrate the holy matrimony of Kassiopeia Blackwood and Takashi Shirogane."

As he spoke, the two only had eyes for each other.

"Now, does anyone have any reason for why this couple should not be married? Speak now or forever hold your peace. No? Excellent. Now, for the vows."

Shiro smiled at Kassy. "God, where do I even start? It's been... it's been a long, long journey. I know there were times circumstances drew us apart, but... we always found each other again. I've loved you for so many years, Kassy, and the thought of not spending every day of my life in your presence is not one I like. You're everything I ever wanted, and I'm so lucky you feel the same way. I love you, Kassy, and I'll never stop."

Kassy smiled at him, laughing as a tear rolled down her face. "Um... yeah, God, I'm crying so much. Shiro, there's been so many times in my life where I've been scared. Right now is one of them. But while those other moments of fear were for getting hurt, being abused, the unknown... this fear feels different. It feels hopeful. I understand myself so much better, and I know what I need is you. You make me less scared. You fill me with love, you make me laugh, you wipe my tears, hold me, listen to me. And I just... I just can't believe how lucky I am to have found my soulmate. For me to have my best friend, my family, and my lover all rolled into one is something I'm so thankful for. I love you."

"You are now husband and wife. Now, with that, our bride and groom may kiss."

Shiro took her hand and planted a soft, gentle kiss on her lips. "Was that nice, wifey?"

She laughed, going in for a second kiss. "It sure was, hubby."

There were camera clicks, and the two posed for some pictures. Kassy leaned in.

"Shiro, I need to tell you something." She whispered through a smile.

"What?"

She smiled at him, nodding at a photographer, and leaned in, whispering into his ear.

"Let's get this party started!" Lance cheered, already 4 champagne glasses deep and certainly feeling it. The music started blasting and everyone got to celebrating.

Hunk and Pidge were gossiping, under the guise of dancing. "Do you think they'll last?" Pidge asked.

"Definitely. I had a bad feeling about her and Veronica, but this one? 50 years, minimum. More likely death do us part."

"That's so nice." Pidge replied. "When'll they have the next baby?"

"Not for ages. I think Kassy wants to wait a while. Shiro would be a lot more ready."

Pidge nodded. "Who do you think won't last?"

"...you want my honest answer?"

"Yeah, who am I gonna tell?"

"Hm, good point. Romelle and Allura won't last more than 5 years." Hunk replied.

"I can see that. Romelle deserves better. Still... they're a hot couple."

Keith tried pulling Lance off the floor.

"Come on, Lance, get up."

"I have no legs."

"Yes, you do. One, two."

"Still. I'm legless. Like a pirate. I need a peg leg and a eyepatch, stat."

"Okay, can pirate Lance please go away now?"

Lance burst into tears. "Keith, I have 0 legs."

Keith sighed. This would be a long night.

Rora and Acxa headed outside. The full moon spilled her beams upon them, and they shared a smile.

"Feeling the romance, huh?" Rora smiled, poking her waist gently.

"It was about time them two had their wedding. It feels like they've been together so long." Acxa replied.

Rora smiled, cupping her face, kissing her gently. "I love you."

"I love you too."

"Guys!" Shiro waved at them. "There you are. We're heading off now. Got a plane to catch."

Rora ran over, hugging them both. Acxa joined the hug.

"Have fun on your honeymoon." Acxa said.

Rora nodded. "Lots of fun." She winked. "See you! Be safe!"

The two smiled and waved, and they were off.
