They talk in poet-speak - 7
As they got dressed, they went outside. The lobby was filled with people their age, probably because the First Meeting would begin in an hour.
Aru looked around with ease. She seemed completely relaxed in the packed atmosphere. Aiden, on the other hand, did not like it one bit.
"I'm going to get lost in there" He shook his head at the crowd.
"But you're following me?"
"And if I lose you?"
"You won't" Aru guaranteed. "You once said you'd be able to recognize me anywhere, even if it was in a crowd"
He sighed. "Using my words against me?"
"Maybe" A sly smile came onto her face.
"I missed that smile"
"You missed me, right?"
"Do you not miss me?"
Aru's eyes flicked to him. "I miss the guy you used to be"
"I'm still the same person"
"But not to me"
Aiden stilled. "I could"
But Aru didn't hear him.
That made a good poem, he thought. Note it down to use in the competition.
He rushed to catch up with her when he bumped into a guy.
"Oh, sorry man" the guy said.
"Um, yeah sorry"
"My name's Drew. Nice to meet you"
"Aiden" he shook his hand. "Nice to meet you too"
"Which school?"
"Augustus Day. You?"
"Sharmister Academy. My sister goes to your school. Her name's-"
"Ohh, a tough one. Welp, see you around" Aiden nodded, feeling regret when he interrupted the guy, but First Meeting was in half an hour so he needed to find Aru.
"See you around"
Aiden shuffled into the crowd, still trying to find Aru. When he finally spotted her, he grabbed her wrist and turned her around.
"You couldn't have stopped?" He asked her, breathing a sigh of relief.
"I knew you would find your way back" she shrugged.
"To where?"
"To me" She pulled her hand away. "Half an hour to First Meeting. Formal clothes?"
"Unfortunately"
"I'm going to die," Aru groaned. "It's been less than a day"
"That's how they are," Aiden said. "Let's go"
"Did you meet anyone?" She asked.
"A guy" Aiden said. "Called David I think"
"David?" Aru asked. "Which school?"
"Sharmister Academy."
"Tough one," She sighed. "I found a girl. Her name's Karina, representing Trancoris School."
"Cool," Aiden walked behind her as she stalked to their room. "They're mid. I didn't meet her last year, though. She could be better than last year's representative."
As Aru unlocked their room, she said, "She seems to know what she's doing. I got her number."
"Mingling with the competition?" Aiden tutted. "We are so gonna lose."
"Shut up," Aru said. "You met a guy called David. Anyway, see you in 20 minutes."
"20 minutes?"
"An hour to get ready, duh," Aru rolled her eyes. "If we're going together at least. You can go with David or whatever."
"We have to go together," Aiden deadpanned. "It's part of the rules."
"Fine."
Aiden hadn't expected her to actually take 20 minutes. He thought she had just exaggerated.
But now, sitting in the living room, at 7:20 PM, checking his watch every two minutes, he could see that in fact, she was not exaggerating.
"Shah," He called out for the twentieth time in 20 minutes.
"Shut the fuck up," She yelled back. "Looking good takes time."
"Does it though?" He muttered. Aru finally opened the door.
Aiden willed himself to look away. He wanted to. But he couldn't.
Aru was stunning in the simple dress she wore. Probably because she never wore anything other than tees and jeans and hoodies.
"Let's go," Aru walked past him quickly, but not quickly enough to see red crawling up her face. His neck reddened too. How long was he staring?
Her dress was a modest green one, and it came up to her knees. It covered her forearm, and on her shoulder, it had a fake flower and ribbon. There were big flower patterns all over the dress.
Her hair was naturally wavy, so she had it in a ponytail, curtain bangs framing her face and everything. Light makeup, not too extravagant.
She was beautiful.
"Where do we go?" Aru snapped him out of his thoughts.
Aiden looked at the place. "Follow me."
