No More

After a day of rest Akari and her family finally visited Rin. He was brought back by Duke Obara and had hired a nurse and doctor to watch over Rin.

"How is he?" Akari asked as they were lead to Rin's room.

"His body will have scars." Riho said as she lead the way. "He has a fever and has not woken up."

When Akari entered Rin's room, the nurse who was sitting by his bed had gotten up and stepped to the side and out of the room.

"The doctor said that we need to ensure he doesn't get an infection from his wounds and he should be fine if he overcomes his fever... however... I'm afraid he'll have nightmares for the rest of his life." Riho began crying as she looked down at Rin. "I could only imagine what he went through. He suffered so much... why? Who would do such a thing?"

Obara took Riho into his arms as she cried harder and Emi rubbed her back to comfort her.

"Rin's a strong man. He'll get through the fever and his injuries. And in time, with the help of you guys and his friends, he will slowly come back to the Rin that you know and love." Emi told Riho. "Just give him time to heal."

Akari and Dean stayed with Rin for a few hours, letting the nurse have a couple of hours to rest, while her parents and Rin's parents discuss the reason why Rin was hurt in the first place. After a lengthy discussion and a couple of raised voices, they came to the conclusion that they were now in the trenches together, seeing how Akari and Dean were involved and a deranged mage on the loose.

Emi and Jona did not speak to Akari on the way back home. They were too angry with Akari for not telling them. Their cold shoulder towards her made her feel uncomfortable. She didn't like to fight with her parents.

The four of them didn't say a single word until they reached Jona's private office. Once the door closed, it was only then that Jona began speaking.

"This deranged mage that you speak of. Do you know who she is?" Jona asked.

"I do."

"Do you know which royal family she is working with?"

"No." Akari answered.

"Are you confident that you can defeat her?"

"Yes."

Jona sigh loudly as he looked worriedly at Akari then at Dean.

"Promise me that nothing will happen to my daughter."

"I'll try my best to ensure that no harm will come to her." Dean promised. "Akari is a strong mage, Duke Jona. Although she is still training, with her abilities, she is stronger than I am."

Emi sighed heavily as well as she looked at her daughter. It seemed as if it was just yesterday that she gave birth to the quiet and brilliant baby.

"You should have told us what was going on." Emi softly chided Akari. "We wouldn't have been thrown in this confusion, had we've known what dangers are ahead of us."

"I know. I'm sorry."

"As long as we know now, we can prepare for the future. Especially now that you are involved, which in turn involves us." Jona quickly said to avilate Akari's guilt. "Is there something we need to do?"

Dean shook his head no.

"Being that we know that a mage is involved, I'll set up a protection barrier around your home and office. Try not to go out, unless it's an emergency. Who knows when the mage will strike back to hurt Akari." Dean told them. "She will target this family due to Akari and my involvement. For that, I apologize. I'll make sure to take the best precaution that no harm comes to Akari and to the both of you."

"Very well. That is all we can do for now."

Later that night, Akari waits in bed for Dean. Since the afternoon until then, Dean had left to set up protection barriers and have not come back. Her thoughts ran wild with the possibility that Dean ran into Misah and they got into a fight.

In the midst of waiting for Dean, her heavy eyelids closed and began to dream. In the dream, it was her last life that she lived. Her 99th life with Rin and Kiko. Rin had broken up with Kiko and began dating Akari for two years. Those two years were the happiest time of her life. She thought that she finally did it and broke her curse. Rin would realize that Kiko and him were not meant to be.

It was the day of her 20th birthday, she told Rin that she had a special surprise for him and all he had to do was dress up and pick her up at her house. For the longest time, since her 5th birthday, she wanted to celebrate her birthday with Rin.  She never celebrated her birthdays because it always reminded her the day she met Rin. The day her fate would always follow the same storyline.

That day she dressed up and when Rin picked her up, she didn't notice the distance he placed between them. The hand that she held was quickly let go of. The hug that she gave him was cold and indifferent. Even the kiss on his cheek was quickly wiped away. She didn't see the distant look in his eyes, the look of guilt and shame.

Akari directed Rin to the park and as they slowly walked through the park, they saw Kiko, Mollie and Sophine walking towards them. Behind them were Crown Prince Ciar and several sons of ministers and sons of generals.

"Rin!" Kiko shouted as she quickly ran up to him, but stopped short as she saw Akari by his side. "Oh... Akari.... hello."

Akari glared at Kiko with so much hate. She didn't even greet Kiko or anyone else.

"Kiko." Rin said as he stood stiffly, looking between Kiko and Akari. His sweat dripped down his forehead as he gathered enough courage to say what he needed to say.

"Akari..." Rin said as he turned to her. "There's something I need to ask you."

"What is it?"

"Have you been colluding with Prince Dae to overthrow Crown Prince Ciar?"

Akari's heart dropped. She knew she failed in this lifetime as well. She should have seen this coming. She shouldn't have put her guard down. She should of kept Kiko within her sights.

"No. I've never done anything that you said."

"They have proof that you have been colluding with Prince Dae and General Chung Ae to overthrow Prince Ciar as Crown Prince so Prince Dae could be the next King." Rin told her sternly. "At first I thought they were false, but with all the evidence they have on you. I could only imagine how much of you that I know is fake and how much of you is true. You used me to get close to other important figures in the government so you could win their loyalty for Prince Dae! You used me so you could get close to my family's business so you could steal money from my family to support Prince Dae!"

"No." Akari said desperately. She knew that this was the end for her. She failed. No matter what she said now nothing would matter.

"I believed in you. In us. How could you betray me. We're over. We're through! You are a traitor to the crown admit now. What you did wrong and your family will not be prosecuted along with you."

Akari did not cry at Rin's words. By now, she shouldn't be surprised. Rin will always be Rin. And he would always go back to Kiko.

City guards came out from behind Akari and took a hold of her arm. As they took her away, Akari heard Kiko and Rin's departing words.

"You're not going to tell her you spent the night with me last night? That we made up and that we're back together?" Kiko asked as she pushed her breast into Rin's body as she hugged him tightly.

"No."

"That's fine. She was never good enough for you. She doesn't deserve any more words from you."

Akari's dream skipped time and she was brought on stage, before the whole city. The large group of citizens lined every inch of the square and every room was filled in the tea houses.

For a second Akari saw the two people who meant the world to her. Far away from the stage, was her parent's carriage. The curtain pulled back just enough to see the beheading. A dark bag covered her sight, her breathing became quicker as she was bent forward into the guillotine. With the heavy wooden slate locking her head into position, she prayed for the last time in her 99th lifetime.

"Please. No more. No more." Akari prayed as she heard the crowd cheer louder. "I'll end it myself if history repeats itself."
