The Funny Business Begins

It's been two days.

Two days since I made the biggest mistake.

Two days since I bounded Davina's and my future together.

All I wanted was to keep Lana close to me. Only I would end up picking the girl I detested the most to impersonate as my girlfriend. To make matters worse, Catalina's tweet went viral and everyone started forming little conspiracy theories about our timeline as a couple. It was quite insane to see the things they would come up with, but half of our eye contact was actual death stares.

Neither Davina nor I could comment on any of the rumors during our little promoting frenzy for the show. However, with the spikes in our viewership and the views skyrocketing on our YouTube videos, I doubt we would keep our mouths shut for long.

The production team and Davina's management team knew the worth of the gift they got handed to them.

Luckily for me, since it's just rumored, Wesley hadn't commented on the topic and our friendship has been going strong. Suddenly, I felt like Hannah Montana having to live a double life between my friends and my social personal.

My foot impatiently tapped a song against the floor as I waited for my fake girlfriend to show up. Glancing at my watch, I realized the brat was twenty minutes late to our meeting, and I could tell by Milo's demeanor that he wasn't exactly thrilled.

Milo scheduled a meeting between us to discuss the details of our PR relationship. I brought my reading glasses in case I had to oversee the contract. My school smarts had always lacked since I was a little boy, but I had a way in the streets.

My thoughts were dismissed when the door creaked open to reveal a chirpy Davina. Her eyes were fixated on her cell phone as she slumped down into the chair without a single word. Hailey snatched the phone from Davina's hands and placed it in a clear plastic bag.

"Great, I'm not seeing that thing for days." Davina groaned.

Milo sighed deeply. "Now that Davina decided to grace us with her presence, let's begin discussing the terms in the PR contract." He opened the briefcase in front of him and handed each of us a packet. "This relationship is to benefit both of your careers. However, we strictly work for Davina and will do anything that advances her back in the media's good graces. There might be terms you won't practically agree with and we are willing to make certain changes."

"I feel like I'm signing a deal with the Devil," I mumbled under my breath.

Davina kicked her feet up on the table. "Oh honey, the Devil doesn't even compare to how big of a bitch I can be."

Milo shot her a murderous stare. "Don't try to frighten the boy. You chose to make him your boyfriend."

She gasped. "No, I didn't! All I'm guilty of was enjoying a delicious banana before this idiot grabbed me and introduced me as his girlfriend. Then all hell broke loose."

"Yeah, and I deeply regret it," I replied casually.

"Once everything is signed, we will discuss the reveal of your relationship to the public. The fans are going rabid over finding out the mystery between you, too. To get the full advantage, we have to shock the world to its core." Milo rambled.

My eyes skimmed over the first page and already began closing. Reading wasn't my favorite hobby. Every year, I failed English but my teacher always bumped my grade enough so I could advance to the other grade.

The first page comprised of random nonsense about Davina that I honestly could care less about. After darting through the first section, my breath caught in my throat when I read over the first rule.

Only the two individuals and their fellow publicist teams are allowed to know the truth of their relationship.

"I don't know how I feel about this first rule," I commented, flipping it over for Milo to see.

Milo placed his glasses back onto his face and squinted as he read. "Sorry, kid. This rule isn't negotiable. We can't risk the public getting a whim of the reality between you guys."

Davina raised an eyebrow. "Why would you be against this rule? Isn't the reason we're together is to make little miss perfect sunshine jealous?"

I gritted my teeth at her little nonsensical comment about Lana. "One example. Wesley."

His name whipped the grin right off her face. "Oh... that might be a bit awkward but he will get over it."

"Yeah, right... he still weeping over you."

Davina scrunched her face. "It's been two weeks. When will this dude let it go? He started this whole problem, to begin with. If he kept his feelings nonexistent, then we could've been having fun."

"I'm continuously baffled on how rude you can be," I scoffed under my breath.

She shrugged. "What? Feelings are the problem. Life is always easier and better when no feelings are involved."

"Let's return to contract, can we?"

The next rule sounded more like a death sentence.

For every red carpet, premiere, party, tv appearance, I had to be right by her side as if I was her own personal lap dog. Just the thought of it irritated me to the core. They might as well handcuff us together and drop us off in the desert. The one good thing about this rule was having the chance to meet famous superstars.

Hopefully, people were better than the spawn of Satan.

Third rule: Davina's (and if Ambrose hires his own publicist) management decides whether the relationship ends after the first year mark. If neither individual is profiting from the relationship, it's possible to break apart in the six-month part.

A plan of sabotaging the relationship passed through my mind. But to keep Lana from shutting me out, I had to keep this believable bond between us. Maybe once Lana saw us acting all lovely dovey, her feelings for me will come alive like a fire when it touched gas.

"Oh, I have a little detail to add in the PDA section." Davina raised her hand as if we were in elementary school.

"Let's hear it," Milo responded.

"Addition to sogging fest we have to go on every few weeks. I'll love for Ambrose to kiss my cheek five times at every event," Davina smirked, with a mischievous glare in her eyes. "I'm known to be quite irresistible. It would only make sense if my boyfriend gives me a lot of love and affection."

Milo tapped his chin while he speculated her bizarre idea. "I agree... Davina is known to be very." He cleared his throat. "Intimate with her partners. What Davina's asking is realistic to the relationship developing between the two."

"So my feelings aren't being taken into consideration?"

"They were. I was kind enough to inform you in advance." She flashed a cheeky smile.

My face scrunched in disgust as I swallowed the bile rising in my throat. "I rather kiss a dirty shoe."

"You won't be saying that after our first PDA session." She winked, only making disgust pump through my veins.

"Just try not to throw up this time," I playfully retorted.

With widened eyes and mouth agape, Milo darted between us. "What else have you done to the poor boy?"

Irritation washed over her features. "Nothing. He's just being a little baby about everything. Just like Wesley... he should let it go."

The other rules were somewhat bearable compared to the others. At least three times a week, we had to post photos or clips of each other on our social media. This favored the both of us since I could spam Lana's front page with photos of us together.

She's not going to know what hit her. Lana's feelings were going to come like a tidal wave, and she would run into my arms like I always wanted. Every time I had to kiss Davina, I'll remind myself the reason why I'm going along with it.

Lastly, as if we weren't shoved down people's throats already, we had scheduled dates for every month. The whereabouts could be discussed between Davina and me, but everything else was up to the management team; including clothing.

Never thought I would have someone choosing my clothing again.

I reached for my water bottle as I skipped down to the very last pages. The liquid went down the wrong pipe and the sound of water splashing onto the fall from the result of me choking. The section I've read caused my entire body to explode-- literally.

The following indicates the bonus Ambrose Bright will receive for agreeing to these terms. He would receive a share of the following five hundred thousand dollars to use as he sees fits. Ambrose Bright would continue being on a show and is guaranteed a spot in the finale (as long as the relationship with Davina was ongoing). In honor of his contribution, he would star on his own cooking show on the Food network.

Receiving this cash bonus on top of the amount owed for every episode produced, I would be set for life. I could say goodbye to three jobs forever. Though my love life was a complete mess, there was a chance my home life could be stable.

For the first time in years...

All I had to do was put aside my hatred for Davina just for a few months.

"I'm ready to sign," Davina said, searching for a pen.

"Me too. Everything else seems in check," I replied.

Finally, as my hand glided over the page, I said goodbye to the Ambrose who struggled to make ends meet and welcomed the new and improved Ambrose. Davina was only an obstacle in the way of everything I wanted. Who knew with all this extra time together, maybe our relationship would form into a genuine friendship.

But I was talking about the spawn of Satan.

"Perfect. Now that everything is signed and dealt with, let's begin the reveal of your relationship." Milo pulled out another paper containing all the information. "For starters, the show is going to need lingering stares and sweet moments between you guys. It would be like a little test for the viewers to see how they react. Once enough seeds are planted, we scheduled a high publicity fake date."

"I don't think I can stare at Davina and look in love," I mumbled under my breath.

Davina stifled a laugh. "It's easy. Just pretend I'm Lana. Be careful, darling! I'm known for breaking hearts."

"Oh, honey, how do you know I won't break yours?" I cockily said.

She snorted. "Nobody breaks my heart."

"I'm going to need a higher dose if I'm going to suffer a year with you guys." Milo pinched the bridge of his nose.

I nudged Milo's shoulder. "Can you get me some too?"

Davina and I sit awkwardly at the table while Milo was collecting all the paperwork and securing them in his folder. I literally couldn't think of a single topic to converse with this girl. If we were supposed to make this relationship believable; we would have to bond one way or another.

My jaw clenched slightly. "Why in the hell would you agree to the Halloween party?"

She shrugged. "It sounded like a good answer at the time. Just make up some excuse about why I can't go."

I rolled my eyes. "You don't know Lana... she will come to your house and drag you there. She has a way to always get what she wants."

Davina choked out a giggle. "That's because you don't have a backbone."

All it took was four words before I gave up on this conversation with the Spawn. This whole day dragged out longer than I wanted. Instead of spending an hour of quality time with Lana, I was being tortured by an imbecile.

Milo says the magic words, please.

"Everything is done," he announced and I bolted out the door.

The PR relationship is official!! Davina and Ambrose are now attached by contract 🤪! What could go wrong? Do you think Lana, Catalina or Meadow could see right through his lies? Or do you think they will continue to fall for it?

Love you guys and can't wait to read all your comments!!!
