OO1 / Boy Meets Girl
Alternative Title: The New Kid
Vincent Banes was a curious individual. A wizard yes, pureblood and newly moved over to England from the United States of America, it was hard for him to adjust to the different systems they had in the UK. Harder for the wizarding world, especially. Everyone here had accents, and it was hard for them to understand what he was saying sometimes because of the slang he used.
Why people didn't use the term washroom was beyond him. But whilst this new place was new, there was something he could always rely on. That was magic.
Magic was probably the only constant thing in his life, considering the fact they moved around a lot, his father was an ambassador but from what he was told. This would be a permanent move. Although Vincent was not jumping in joy or excitement over moving in the first place, he understood his father, and was happy to be finally settling down in one place.
The burnette boy had given his father a tight hug. Not wanting to leave him, but knowing he would have too. "I'll miss you, Dad." Vincent voiced. The fifth year wanted to cling onto his father but knowing his father, he would always prioritize Vincent and his well-being over his own feelings and life. He often used that fact that he was Vincent's father and not the other way around.
Vincent truly was luckier than most, he will admit.
"It won't be like before Vince, this is our home now, and I can guarantee you are going to love Hogwarts. It's the best wizarding school for a reason" His father mused as he ruffled the young boy's hair. Vincent did not want to let go of his father's welcoming and warm embrace.
"When you come back home, it will be like no time passed at all." His father smiled down at him as Vincent finally broke the hug. Opting to hold his trunk instead.
Vincent smiled sheepishly before giving his father another tight hug, this one was quick, it was more of a see you later hug than a goodbye forever. "I love you, son." His father whispered. Vincent's smile grew.
"I love you too, Dad." and with that final goodbye, the two men broke apart, sharing smiles as Vincent walked towards the entrance of the train. The horn blowing as he felt people start pushing him into the train from behind. As he was pushed, he bumped into someone, falling right on top of them.
"Merlin!" He yelled out, holding himself up with his two hands. But in between his arms and right under him was probably the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. Wait no that was wrong.
She was the most beautiful girl he had ever seen. She didn't even classify as human, she was an angel. "Hello? Could you possibly get off of me?" Vincent was brought back to reality, and immediately his face flushed red in embarrassment. Lending a hand to help the girl up, he rubbed the back of his neck and apologized.
"I-I am sorry, that was really uncool of me." The girl smiled at him.
"It's ok, we all saw, you were pushed and there really was nothing you could do about it. Thanks for apologizing." They stood in an awkward silence as everywhere around them was crowded.
"I should go." Vincent nodded in agreement, and he watched as she walked away, catching up with her friends and giggling. She looked just like a dream and he was lucky to be blessed with her company.
Vincent grabbed onto his rather light trunk and moved in the opposite direction, hopefully finding someone to share a compartment with. He was wrong, he sat alone. Not that he minded. He was perfectly fine being all alone, after all, he was sure the minute he stepped foot into hogwarts, he would love it. Just as his father assured him and hopefully would make good friends with good people.
The boy had taken his trunk and put it on the shelf before sighing. He sat down close to the window and let his head rest as he watched the scenary. His mind soon wandering to the girl he encountered earlier.
Yeah, maybe this move wasn't so bad after all.
All he would have to do is get rid of the guilt creeping up on him, the guilt of leaving his father alone once more.
Vincent knew his father truly loved him, but he also knew when he was lying to him. He assumed the death of his mother affected his father in a way he could never truly understand. Now that Vincent thought about it, didn't his mother go to Hogwarts or attend it for a few years before transferring to Ilvermorny where she met his father?
Vincent questioned himself as he thought about it. but the most that came out of it was a headache. It truly was a busy day, from arriving by plane to rushing to the station which he knew nothing of alongside his father.
And something the boy noticed was that witches and wizards here wear strange clothes. Were they unable to have proper relations to the no-maj's or at leats pass of as one to buy decently looking clothing. Did they not think of how strange it would be if a no-maj' was walking next to someone with a rather long white period, a pointy hat and a green robe.
Wasn't that even a stereotype of some sorts (not that the no-maj's would know).
But Vincent didn't want to comment, he knew how different political systems were in wizarding states, you were either a freedom lover or blood supremacist, there wasn't much of an in between from his experience. But he could be wrong.
The burnette felt tired and looking at his watch, his old schoolmate gave him. There would be exactly seven hours before they reached their destination. This would be the perfect time to catch up on the sleep he missed, and so he did. Dreaming of the girl's smile.
✸
Vincent lied, He despises Hogwarts. The ride to the castle was sincredibly nerve-wracking considering he didn't know how to swim, and that Headmaster was scary, he could still remember her words ringing clear in his mind and ears, never leaving.
"So... Your father is an ambassador and that is why you have moved around alot" Vincent nodded. "Nine, Different Schools. Wow. Impressive, must have been alot of change. " Vincent did not respond to the old gentlemen, instead he was inspecting the office, it was cluteery with paintings all over the walls, even a ginormous bird cage, but no cage. Quite odd. Britian sure was odd.
"Well, I am happy to say that Hogwarts should not be too different from your previously schools. Your records are clean, good grades. I think you will fit in just fine." Vincent nodded. "Thank you Headmaster Dumbledore" Vincent sat up straighter.
The older gentleman was amused at the boy. "Please, call me Professor." He cracked a smile at Vincent and watched as he nodded. "Now before you leave, I have someone here to guide you, or rather introduce you to Hogwarts. His name is Mr. Issac Skids." Just as the name was said, a knock on the door was heard.
"Come in."
The door slowly opened, on the other side was a blonde boy with a blue and silver tie. His hear was neatly combed back but in the way were it seemed his hair line was receeding. His shoes were proper black dress shoes, his robes not a single crease in them and most importantly the teenage boy was oddly confident for someone so short. Ok to be fair he wasn't that short, just a little shorter than himself but walking around with giants all the day ruined his perception of height.
"Greetings Headmaster"
Vincent was shocked. What did he just say. Greetings Headmaster? What the fuck. He thought. Vincent pinched himself, standing up and offering a hand to the boy.
"I'm just messing with you, Hi! My name is Issac Skids and I am your guide." He had a contagious smile. Vincent knew he was going to like Issac.
"It's nice to meet you, my name is Vincent Banes." The young boy introduced himself. Extending a hand out for him to shake. The blonde boy looked confused.
"What are you doing, do you want me to give you something." Vincent was bewildered. They didnt shake hands in Wizarding England? But he was taken out his shock by the laghter of the two males infront of him. "I'm just pulling your leg, trying to lighten up the mood. I heard you are from America, there must be alot going on for you, culture shock probably." Issac admitted.
Vincent was anxious. Maybe he had to be a little careful fo the boy who made everything into what he believed to be a lame joke, but looking at Dumbledore with is large grin and clearly amused laughter. Maybe it was just him, or the old man had a soft spot for the jokester.
"Go on, he won't bite." Vincent played with his fingers as he nodded as a response again. Before he could make it out of his seat. Issac stopped him. "What house?" Vincent furrowed his eyesbrows. Now, he regretted not reading Hogwarts, A History.
"Umm... Gryffindor, I think" Vincent said, looking at Dumbledore for Approval. The older man nodded.
Issac smiled, before beckoning the new student to follow him as he walked out and so Vincent did. Closing the door behind him.
The two made their way to the Great Hall, Issac cleared his throat. "Here is the breakdown." Vincent was very confused.
"W-What..."
"If you are gonna survive Hogwarts you need to know about where you belong. Especially because you are a Gryffindor. Listen, you do not talk to the sixth Years!" Issac quickly whispered. Vincent raised a brow at the Ravenclaw.
"Why not?" He asked. Confused, What was so terrible that he was not allowed to talk to the sixth years, it sounded like complete tomfoolery. If he wanted to talk to a person regardless of their year, he should be able too. Now looking at the great hall, and how the four long tables and so called houses divided everyone, Vincent felt a little sick to his stomach.
He wanted to go back to Ilvermorny. There, atleast he wasn't judged because of some stupid colours he wears.
Issac dragged Vincent along. "There you have your basic beautiful people, whatever you do. Do not go near them. they only talk to their 'own kind'" Vincent made a face of slight disgust at the way he described them, but stayed silent as he watched the group. In the centre was a red haired guy, with tan skin and brown eyes, his uniform unlike Issac's was messy, in a kinda intentional model way. It made him look like a try-hard.
"That is Patrick Jackman or Jackass, take you pick. He's a douche." Issac muttered. Vincent nodded, turning away from the smelly group of boys.
"Next is your Wannabes, they are basically rich people pretending to be poor, they are the ultimate insiders and get very very mad if you tell them the truth, oh and they smoke-" Issac was cut off by the new kid, walking past the group, the odor enveloped them. Vincent scrunched up his face as he said "Let me guess, weed." Issac nodded.
"Here are your Quidditch Maniacs, the one try out they had which they failed is their entire personality. This entire group is just a huge gigantic fan club of the sixth year student, James Potter." The Burnett was confused as he searched the Gryffindor table, all he saw were three boys, one with long black hair and sharp features. The second, a lanky tan haired boy with scars and the fourth, a rather pudgy boy who had soft features. All the boys had smile lines, and everyone seemed to adore them by the way they attracted the attention of all those around them, but something felt missing, or rather someone.
"Who are they?" Vincent asked. Eyes still trained on the three boys not that far away from them.
"Oh, those are the Marauders, they are royalty in Gryffindor and they practically rule the school. But they don't know that. There is four of them. The first and the ringleader, James Potter, the second which is the one with the long black hair, Sirius Black. The third is the one with tan hair or the nerd of the group, Remus Lupin and the fourth and final one is Peter Pettigrew. Everyone knows they are closer than brothers." Vincent nodded as he watched them. "Where's James Potter?"
Issac shrugged. He didn't know nor did he care.
"There are the party kids. Be careful walking around them, they are scared of sudden movements." As that was said, the boy next to them jumped when Vincent made a small noise of amusement. His eyes wide.
"-And finally, the only people who will succeed in this world. We've all probably been accepted into our respective academies and internships, most of us end up becoming politicians and professors." Vincent nodded.
So you're a nerd. Noted.
Before he could here another one of Issac's stupid points, he watched as the girl he met on the train. "Merlin" be breathed out. Issac followed his gaze to see the known figure of Anna Amelia Jones. "No, no, don't even think about it."
The Gryffindor furrowed her eyebrows. He placed his hands in his pockets as he sat down with the Ravenclaw at his table. It was off but nobody gave them much thought, after all it was nt like he was sitting with a Slytherin. Now that would be a sight to behold.
"Forget her, her father is one of the professors and has a stick up his ass, everyone knows and I mean everyone... The Jones sisters are not allowed to date. Ever. " Issac grumbled at the end.
Vincent paid him no mind. Watching the beautiful fifth year giggle. Vincent swore on that day that one day he would be the cause of her happiness.

Katherine Jones walked into Professor Flitwick's office once again, for the fourth time this week. Katherine sat down at the seat in front of him, and smiled.
"To what do I owe the pleasure Ms. Jones?"
The burnette pursed her lips as she looked at the shorter man. "Professor Trewalney sent me here, saying I was disruptive to her class- but everyone knows she is a complete fraud." The professor cleared his throat, an indication to stop.
Katherine did. Sighing as she set down her bag and waited for her head of house to berate her. But to her surprise, he didn't say anything. Katherine was slightly grateful. If she went to her father's office again, she was pretty sure she was going to get yelled at.
"Katherine, I think you need to learn how to communicate with your peers in a manner that is not so ... blunt" Katherine blinked in surprise. Smiling at how hard it was for Professor Flitwick to advise his favourite student.
"I know it's hard, considering your advancement in your subjects and sometimes the immaturity of your classmates and the ever so looming threat of war but— if you are unable to talk to people, how will you ever succeed? Humans are social creatures, we need to talk in other ways than just insulting and arguing, we need to talk when we love someone, we need to communicate when we are upset, when we are happy. When we need help. I just hope you are able to allow yourself to do that." Katherine froze at his words but nodded nevertheless.
"Yes professor, I understand" Katherine confirmed as she bang to grab her bag. She felt annoyed. Although Flitwick was a great teacher. She hated when all those people interfered with her life.
"I'm leading you off with a warning today Ms. Jones, now go back to class." Katherine did as she was told and walked out, making her way to the great hall instead.
Ugh, that was annoying
She loosened her tie as she was walked down the corridor and took a sharp turn, thankfully Professor Flitwick's was close to the great hall, she was hungry and exhausted.
Kathy made her way into the Hall. Ignoring the stares and glared she got before she was tackled into a hug by her best friend, Bianca Verona. She loved her best friend to bits and was grateful to have a poetic soul to be her friend, if it weren't for the fact that Bianca genuinely believed she was in a relationship with Elvis Presley, The King of Rock and Roll (a fact the wizarding world refused to acknowledge).
Bianca with her dyed pink hair, brown eyes. She was one of the most beautiful and intelligent people she has ever met. Despite her delusional relationship with Elvis Presley, she was most likely the best singer Kathy knew.
Bianca was a self-proclaimed old soul and rock star living in one body. One side a grandmother, the other the greatest guitarist the world have ever seen.
Kathy knew she could make it to the big leagues, but knowing Bianca she could never leave this world behind or the home of her grandmother. Bianca was too kind, but she also didn't know to take the opportunities presented to her.
"C'mon, let's sit down Kathy." Only Bianca called her Kathy, no one else. Katherine liked it that way. It felt intimate between them. Something where they could show they cared for each other when saying their nicknames.
Katherine let Bianca sit her down at the Ravenclaw table. People around them had taken their plates and moved elsewhere until there was a circle of emptiness around them. Katherine snorted. "Hilarious" Bianca laughed.
"So, How did your parents react to your future plans?" Katherine asked. Bianca cackled. Her face lite up in amusement. "Oh Kathy, you should have been there, it was amazing, they went red in the face and asked me where I had the audacity to apply to a muggle school" Katherine rolled her eyes playfully. Only Bianca would be happy she successfully pissed off her pureblood supremacist parents.
"It was worth it" Bianca was proud of herself. Taking a bite of the croissant, she got a hold of.
Across the Ravenclaw table, the new student with the outcasted Ravenclaw watched the two girls. "That's Katherine Jones, your soulmate's sister." Issac mused, taking a sip of his pumpkin juice.
"Is that so?" Vincent hummed. Noticing the similarities between the two girls. "Yeah, she's a heinous bitch." Vincent coughed in surprise at his new friend.
"She can't be that bad." An amused noise came out of the Ravenclaw student next to Issac.
"Not that bad? She's a shrew. No, not a shrew. The shrew of Hogwarts." Vincent clenched his jaw at the teenage boy.
"Excuse me?" A voice behind Vincent said. He froze as he heard the voice. The girl. The girl, it was Katherine Jones. Vincent shut his eyes tight and pretended as if he did not hear anyone. The boy who called the same girl a shrew had just froze.
Katherine pulled the student up by his tie. Their face inches apart as she asked him, "What did you just call me?" Vincent felt as though his whole world froze. He stared on, acting as if this was not happening beside him. This method always worked in other schools. People left him alone as he stayed out of trouble and quiet. He hoped it would work now.
"So... Dirk?" Bianca drawled out. Unknowingly catching the attention of three boys in the table next to them.
The boy Vincent knew as Sirius Black had stood up and yelled at the top of his lungs, "Fight!" Before he could continue, Remus Lupin pulled his down and slapped the back of his head, whispering an "idiot!". Sirius Black remained unaffected as a grin graced his features.
The boy identified as Dirk gulped as he whispered, "Sorry". Katherine was amused and accepted it as she let go of his tie and essentially him. "Booo!" A voice was heard from the Gryffindor table.
Sirius Black really was a character, wasn't he?
Katherine rolled her eyes before taking a hold of Bianca's arm, linking them together as they made their way out of the hall.
Vincent let out a breath of relief from the encounter, the boy turned to Anna Jones. Watching her from afar was something he guessed he would be doing a lot, or at least until he asked her out on a date. But what if she said no?
Vincent shook his head and choose to ignore it, he would get to that problem if it ever happened. "If you really wanna pursue her, she needs a French tutor for her muggle studies assignment." Vincent's eyes lit up, a smile returning to his face once more as he imagined what it would be like to make her laugh.
Anna seemed like a really down-to-earth girl, one who didn't chase after popularity but was kind. She loved pretty things like he did, she seemed to like grapes and he did too. There was nothing she did wrong, but act like a teenager.
"But you probably won't be able to date her, even then..." Issac rushed out. Vincent's neck snapped to the boy. A perplexed expression displayed.
Issac stared at the look before letting go of his toast. "Anna Jones is not allowed to date until Katherine Jones dates, and Katherine Jones doesn't date nor does anyone wanna date the she-devil"
"Unless..." Vincent raised a brow and Issac made a motion with his hands.
"Unless, we can get someone else to date her..."
