viii. four werewolves

"You know, there is something seriously wrong with this place." Lorelei whisper yelled as she, Allison, and Lydia walked back into their motel room. Lydia nodded in agreement with the blonde, looking up at Allison.

"Allison, we need to leave." Lydia said and Lorelei threw her hands in the air in victory, glad Lydia was agreeing with her. Allison looked between Lydia and Lorelei with furrowed brows and a small smile.  "But they were suicides, not murders, and it's not like this place is haunted, right?

The two girls scoffed at Allison's question. "Maybe it is. You know, I bet that couple made their suicide pact in that very room." Lorelei said as she started to grow worried, still shaken up from the Darach attacking her just a few minutes ago. "Maybe that's why they're renovating. Maybe they've been scraping brain matter off the wood paneling!" Lorelei yelled and Lydia cringed at her graphic words.

Lorelei mouthed an apology to the girl as Allison shrugged. "Maybe we should find out." Allison countered. Lorelei's face fell as she slowly shook her head. "No. No, I'm staying in here." She said almost immediately. Allison accepted Lorelei's decline, turning to Lydia with raised brows. Lydia had a much harder time saying no to Allison than Lorelei did so she reluctantly agreed to help her.

When the two girls left, Lorelei walked towards her suitcase, she pulled out the grimoire she had packed with her and sat on her bed. Lorelei wanted to get as much information as she could about Darach's and Witches as possible .

Lorelei read the grimoire on the bed she was sharing with Lydia for about an hour before the words started to blur. Lorelei rubbed her eyes, thinking maybe her eyes were straining, but when she looked back done at the book, all the words on the paper were gone except two.

Save Ethan.

Lorelei gasped at her eyes and vision turned white. Slowly, the image of one of the motel rooms started to appear and just from looking at the room number, Lorelei recognized the room as the one that the couple died in.

In a matter of seconds, Lorelei's eyes went back to normal. She didn't waste any time closing her grimoire, hoping off her bed she was sharing with Lydia and ran out of her motel room, towards the one she was just at only minutes ago.

Lorelei grabbed the door handle and tries to open the door, but slammed her shoulders against the wood. It was locked. "No, that was not locked before." Lorelei whispered, her nerves bubbling throughout her whole body as she struggled with the door. She didn't want Ethan to die. Hell, Lorelei didn't want anyone to die.

"Lor? What's wrong?" Stiles asked as he, Allison, and Lydia ran up the stairs to help her. Lorelei didn't turn hr head, still trying to open the door. "I have to save him." Lorelei whispered, her voice cracking from the worry she was feeling and all of the strength she was using to try and open this door.

Quickly, Allison, Lydia, and Stiles all tried to help her open the door. Allison looked down at Lorelei beside her with big worried eyes. "Is Scott in there?" Allison asked and Lorelei shook her head. "Isaac? Boyd?" Stiles asked and Lorelei groaned. "No!" She yelled and Allison sighed, no longer helping to try and open the door.

"Forget it then. We need to get Scott, Isaac, and Boyd out of here." Allison said and all of them except Lorelei stopped trying to open the door. Lorelei watched them with wide eyes, her eyes starting to water from all the panic she was feeling. "Um hello?! They aren't the only werewolves we know." Lorelei yelled, hoping to snap some sense into her friends.

Before anyone could respond to Lorelei, the sound of handsaw turning on was heard from the other side of the door. Lorelei gasped, her eyes turning white for a split second. When they turned back to normal, her fingers started to tingle, small white sparks bursting out of her fingertips.

"Get back!" Lorelei screamed, backing away from the door with her arms out, pushing Stiles, Lydia, and Allison back with her. The sparks coming from her fingers started to grow bigger and her eyes increasingly got whiter. Lorelei shot her hand out and the door flew from its hinges, getting thrown across the motel room until it slammed into the opposite wall.

Lorelei looked into the room and saw Ethan standing in the middle of it, holding the handsaw against his stomach, ready to slice himself open.

Lorelei felt her heart in her throat at the sight. "Ethan, don't!" She screamed, her voice breaking out of the pure fear rushing through her body.

Stiles ran towards the boy and threw the tool out of his hands so Ethan wouldn't injure himself. Lorelei felt Lydia grab her hand out of worry for Stiles as the two thrashed in each others arms.

Ethan growled, throwing Stiles off of him. Lorelei watched as Stiles started to tumble towards an open blade. Quickly, she casted a protection spell on the boy and squeezed Lydia's hand tighter.

When he was just a mere inches away from the blade, Stiles froze midair as if there was an invisible wall between him and the blade. Stiles caught his breath as he looked down. He knew he was under a spell and that's what caught him, but he still looked around as if he'd find something.

Slowly, Stiles got up and looked at Lorelei from over his shoulder. Lorelei let out a relieved breath as a smile took over her face. Stiles carefully nodded his head, still frightened at his near death experience. "Thanks."

"Anytime." Lorelei replied. Out of the corner of her eyes, she could see Ethan raise his arms. She turned her head to fully look at him and watched as his claws appeared. He pressed his claws against his stomach just like he had with the handsaw, attempting to cut himself open again.

Lorelei's eyes turned white as she shot her hands out. Ethan groaned as Lorelei threw him backwards with her powers. He felt back onto the motel heater and screamed in pain at the burning feeling growing on his back.

As Lorelei went to walk towards Ethan to check on him, she was stopped by Lydia grabbing her upper arm. Lorelei looked at Lydia with furrowed brows while Lydia looked at her with wide eyes.

"When did you learn to do that?" Lydia asked. In all honesty, Lorelei didn't know where she learned to do that. She just knew she had to do that to keep Ethan alive. Lorelei shrugged as an answer as Ethan quickly got up and ran out of the room.

Lorelei's eyes widened at Ethan's retreating figure and quickly followed after him, the rest of the group right on her tail.

"Ethan!" Lorelei called out after the boy as he ran down the stairs. Ethan looked at Lorelei over his shoulder and shook his head. "I don't know how I got there or what I was doing." Ethan said and he finally stopped when he reached the bottom of the stairs. Lorelei stopped in front of the boy and caught her breath as she looked up at him.

Ethan sighed down at the blonde. It was almost like being mean to a puppy in his eyes. Plus, he knew about his brothers liking towards her. "Thank you for saving me, but you probably shouldn't have." Ethan told Lorelei, giving her the tiniest hint of a smile before he ran towards his room.

Lorelei stood frozen watching the boy run away as Stiles, Lydia, and Allison stood beside her. "What now?" Stiles asked as looked between the three girls. Allison turned away from Aiden's retreating figure before turning to Stiles. "I'll find Scott. You guys grab Isaac and Boyd. The best thing we can do is get them out of this place." She said before she ran towards Stiles and Scott's motel room.

Lorelei finally turned around to face Stiles and Lydia, immediately noticing the uncomfortable look on the boy's face as he looked at Lydia.

Lydia rolled her eyes at Stiles. "Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked and Stiles just blinked at Lydia before spinning on his heels and walking away from her. Lorelei and Lydia both followed after the boy, neither knowing why he suddenly was acting weird.

"Stiles." Lorelei yelled and the boy finally stopped. He turned around to face the girls, specifically Lydia, and sighed. "All right, Lydia. I didn't want to say anything, but this... everything we're going through... We've kind of been through something like this before, a lot like this." Stiles struggled to say and Lorelei instantly straightened up, knowing what he was talking about.

Lydia on the other hand, was even more confused. She was still fairly new to all of the supernatural stuff happening in Beacon Hills. "What do you mean? When?" She asked. When Lorelei noticed Stiles start to open his mouth to answer Lydia's question, Lorelei quickly shook her head.

"Stiles..." Lorelei warned. Stiles looked back and forth between Lydia and Lorelei before ultimately ignoring Lorelei's warning, turning all of is attention to Lydia to answer her question. "Your birthday party, the night you poisoned everyone with wolfsbane."

Lydia's face fell at his words. She slowly shook her head before she started to walk away from Lorelei and Stiles. Lorelei turned to Stiles and immediately smacked his arm. Stiles yelped in pain, his hand going to his arm as Lorelei rushed after the girl. "Lydia, he didn't mean that you're trying to kill people." Lorelei said, finally catching up to Lydia once the strawberry blonde stopped walking.

Lorelei didn't think anything of it and continued to talk. "He just means maybe you're somehow involved in..." Lorelei's words slowed when she heard the faint sound of water running. The three of them were standing in the middle of the parking lot, so there was no way Lorelei would be able to ear water running from one of the units.

She looked around, hoping she'd be able to pinpoint where the water was coming from as Stiles walked up to them. "Stiles... Do you hear that?" Lydia asked quietly, worried that if she spoke too loud, the sound would go away. Stiles's brows furrowed as he shook his head. "What? No. Lydia, what do you hear?"

Lydia stayed frozen, her eyes wide and her breathing starting to pick up. When she didn't answer the question, Stiles turned to Lorelei, noticing the girl almost get whiplash from how fast she was looking around. "Lorelei, what do you hear?"

"Water running." Lorelei answered, still looking around the motel. She couldn't for the life of her figure out where she was hearing it. Lydia slowly shook her head at Lorelei's answer, her eyes trained on the manhole cover a few feet away from her. "That's not what I hear." She whispered, making Stiles and Lorelei whip their heads to her.

"I hear a baby crying." Lydia whispered and as if it triggered something in Lorelei, the blonde gasped as her vision went black. Slowly, her vision started to fade into an image. She watched Boyd stand in his motel bathroom. He was filling the tub with water. She watched as he waited until the bath was on the edge of overflowing before he turned off the water.

He walked out of the bathroom and out of Lorelei's sight. She could faintly hear him groan as he lifted something before he reentered the bathroom and Lorelei's vision, now holding a metal safe. Lorelei watched as Boyd stepped into the bathtub and laid down, pressing the safe atop his chest so he was stuck underwater.

Lydia screaming "Someone's drowning!" broke Lorelei out of her vision. Lorelei gasped as her eyes went back to normal. "Boyd! Boyd is drowning!" She screamed, barely giving Lydia and Stiles time to process what she said before she ran towards Isaac and Boyd's room.

In that moment, Lorelei was extremely grateful that Isaac and Boyd were staying in a room on the first floor. She didn't think she could run up any more stairs. Lorelei used her powers to burst through the door, doubting that Isaac was even in the room to unlock it and let them in considering Boyd was drowning.

Just like she figured, Isaac was no where in sight. Lorelei ran into the bathroom and slid on her knees so she was in front of the bathtub. "Boyd." She whispered. Not even caring that her sleeve would get all wet, Lorelei reached her hand into the tub and under Boyd's head to pull out the drain cover as Lydia and Stiles knelt over the tub with her. She pulled off the drain cover with ease, but no water went down. Lorelei let out a confused breath and stuck her hand into the water again.

She put her hand into the drain and cursed under her breath went she felt something hard blocking it. She looked to Lydia and Stiles beside her, shaking her head. "He jammed it. He blocked the drain with something."

Stiles nodded, looking into the tub and reaching for the safe. "Here, help me." He said and all at once, the three teens tried to lift the safe off of Boyd. All of the groaned as they struggled to lift it. When they weren't able to get the safe off of Boyd and out of the water, Lydia leaned over the edge of the tub so she could look at Lorelei from over Stiles. "Can't you do that thing you just did with Ethan? How you pushed him back?" Lydia asked. Lorelei opened and closer her mouth as she looked down at the safe on Boyd's chest, shaking her head.

"I didn't do it on my own! It's like... my powers knew I needed to do it and they did it!" Lorelei yelled and Stiles turned to her, his eyebrows raised in a sarcastic matter. "And it's not needed now?! Really?" He asked and Lorelei turned to him, giving him a small "watch it" glare.

"Is he dead?" Lydia asked, her voice quiet and a little shaky. Lorelei's eyes flashed white as she looked down and checked for Boyd's aura. The color around him was there, but it was very faint. Her eyes turned back to normal as she turned to look at Stiles and Lydia beside her. "No. But he will be if we don't get him out of there."

"How long can a werewolf stay underwater?" Lydia asked as they all stood up. Stiles scoffed at Lydia's question, throwing his hands in the air in annoyance and stress. "You think I know that?" He snapped and Lorelei turned to Stiles, going to slap his chest, but Stiles noticed and quickly stepped back. He ended up stepping back into the heater and screamed in pain at the fact that he burned his arms.

Lorelei jumped at the sound of Stiles's scream and when she realized that Stiles injured himself, she quickly grabbed both of his arms and started to heal them. Stiles knew that Lorelei get weak when she healed, but he also knew that Lorelei would yell at him if he tried to stop her from healing him and that would just take more time away from helping Boyd.

As Lorelei healed him, an idea popped into his head. "Wait a sec, the heater. Ethan came out of it when he touched the heater." Stiles said and slowly, Lorelei looked up at Stiles with wide eyes and a smile, catching onto his idea. Lydia looked back and forth between Stiles and Lorelei, not catching on to what they were thinking. "What?"

Lorelei turned to Lydia, a small smile on her face at the fact that they knew how to help the werewolves. "It's heat, heat, fire. We need fire." Lorelei whispered with a small laugh. Lydia didn't seem as excited as the other two. "He's underwater."

"Yeah, I'm aware of that." Stiles muttered, stepping away from Lorelei just incase he tried to whack her again, but she didn't. Stiles was confused on why Lorelei didn't hit him. He turned to look down at her and watched as a lightbulb went off in her head.

"On the bus, they'll have emergency road flares. They have their own oxidizers. They can burn underwater." Lorelei said and Stiles's eyes widened, getting as excited as her now. "Are you serious?" He asked and Lydia nodded, grabbing onto his shoulder and spinning him around to face the exit of the motel room. "Yes, go!"

Stiles ran out of the motel room as fast as he could and headed to the bus. Lorelei tried to calm herself down, telling herself that Stiles would be back in no time with the flare to help Boyd, but she couldn't get rid of the uneasiness she was feeling.

Suddenly, Lorelei felt the air around her go cold and if she listened hard enough, she could hear a faint, shallow breathing coming from outside of the bathroom. Lydia noticed Lorelei tense and turned to face her. "Lorelei? Lor, what's wrong?" Lydia asked quietly and Lorelei stayed frozen, not even turning to look at her.

"Someone's in here with us." Lorelei whispered, making Lydia tense up. Lorelei slowly walked out of the bathroom and into the main area of the motel room. She followed the sound of the faint shallow breathing until she was at the edge of one of the boys beds. Slowly, Lorelei crouched down onto her knees and looked under the bed.

Lorelei felt her heartbreak at the sight of Isaac, curled into a ball, shaking and crying under the bed.

I got 'em." Stiles said as he ran back into the room, startling Isaac under the bed. The boy became more shaken up at all the loud noises happening around him. "What do I do? How do I do this?" Stiles asked, running up to Lydia with two flares. He hadn't noticed Lorelei on the floor yet.

"The cap's a match." Lydia told him and as fast as he could, Stiles took the cap off of one of the flares and tried to light it. Lorelei didn't even know how many times Stiles tried to light it, but it was getting to the point where Lorelei was starting to get annoyed of the constant clicking noise.

"Stiles!" Lorelei whisper yelled, still on the floor. Stiles waved the blonde off, figuring she was calling his name as a way to tell him to hurry up. "Yeah, I'm trying." Stiles yelled, trying to defend himself. Lorelei rolled her eyes, holding an arm out to him. "No, give me one!"

Stiles finally realized that Lorelei was on the floor and put two and two together. He quickly handed her one of the flares and almost instantly, Lorelei was able to light it. Stiles groaned at the fact that she could do it so easily when he finally lit his flare.

Stiles screamed in excitement, him and Lydia running to the bathroom to help Boyd while Lorelei tried to help Isaac. Lorelei looked under the bed, making Isaac look back to hurt, his eyes red and watering. "Hey, Isaac..." Lorelei said, keeping her voice soft and quiet so she wouldn't startle him.

"I'm gonna be so sorry to do this, but..." Lorelei pulled her hand with the flare under the bed and made sure the flame touched Isaac.

Isaac whimpered in pain at the same time Boyd roared, both boy being pulled out of whatever trance the Darach had on them.

...

After making sure Isaac and Boyd were okay, Lydia, Stiles, and Lorelei left their motel room and met up with Allison. "I can't find Scott anywhere." Allison mumbled and Stiles shook his head as they walked down the stairs. "It's happening to him too, isn't it?"

While they were all talking, Lorelei heard the faint sound of flare and turned her head. Somehow without knowing it, Scott was standing just about 20 feet away from the four, covered in gasoline and holding a flare.

Lorelei started to take slow steps towards him, catching Stiles, Lydia, and Allison's attention. "Scott?" Lorelei called out.

"There's no hope." Scott mumbled.

"What do you mean, Scott? There's always hope." Allison said as Stiles leaned towards Lorelei. "Can't you get it out of his hand?" He whispered and Lorelei looked up to Stiles, immediately shaking her head. "It's too risky. The flare could still hit the gas."

"Not for me. Not for Derek." Scott said, shaking his head. Lorelei felt a tightness in her chest and her eyes start to sting with tears as she shook her head. "Derek wasn't your fault. You know Derek wasn't your fault." Lorelei tried to reason and almost instantly, Scott shook his head in disagreement. "Every time I try to fight back, it just gets worse. People keep getting hurt. People keep getting killed." Scott sobbed out.

"Scott, listen to me, okay? This isn't you, all right?" Allison said and Lorelei gently nodded her head in agreement. "She's right. It's the Darach. This is someone inside your head telling you to do this." Lorelei tried to explain and Scott slowly turned to her, his eyebrows creased and his eyes filled with tears. "What if it isn't? What if it is just me? What if doing this is actually the best thing that I could do for everyone else?"

He looked back down the ground and let out a small breath, but if you asked Lorelei, it sounded like a small sob. "It all started that night, the night I got bitten." He muttered, looking back up at Stiles. "You remember the way it was before that? You and me, we were... we were nothing. We weren't popular. We weren't good at lacrosse. We weren't important. We were no one. Maybe I should just be no one again. No one at all."

Immediately, Stiles took a step forward towards Scott, shaking his head crazily. "Scott, just listen to me, okay? You're not no one. Okay? You're someone, you're... Scott, you're my best friend. Okay? And I need you. Scott, you're my brother." Stiles continued to walk towards Scott through the fire until they were inches away from each other.

Slowly, Stiles started to reach from the flare Scott was holding. "All right, so... So if you're gonna do this, then... I think you're just gonna have to take me with you. All right?"

Lorelei let out a quiet, reaching out to hold onto Lydia's hand beside her. The three girls cried as they watched Stiles slowly take the flare out of Scott's hand completely and throw it away from him. Lorelei's eyes followed the flare and watched as it just barely missed the puddle of gasoline by inches.

Lorelei started walking towards the flare to grab it so it wouldn't accidentally get set off. As she walked towards it, a wind picked up, pushing the flare closer and closer to the puddle of gasoline. Allison and Lydia both noticed. They also both noticed Lorelei trying to get to the flare before it got to the puddle.

"No!" Lydia screamed, running towards Lorelei as Allison ran towards Scott and Stiles. Allison grabbed ahold of Scott and Stiles, pushing the to the ground and away from the flare at the same time that Lydia grabbed onto Lorelei and pulled her away from the lit flare.

When the fire erupted, Lorelei and Lydia were thrown backwards. The two girls fell on the backs, groans of pain leaving their mouths as the heat from the fire made Lorelei uncomfortable. They squinted, but watched the fire just a few feet them as the Darach emerged from the orange. The Darach looked between Lydia and Lorelei as it screeched in pain before disappearing completely.

Lorelei slowly turned her head to face Lydia at the same time that Lydia turned to face her, both of them worried as to why the Darach was looking at them specifically.

...

The five decided that they didn't want to split up for the night and instead of everyone crashing in one groups room only to be squished onto two beds, they'd sleep in the bus.

Lorelei thought this idea was much worse than sharing a bed, but luckily Allison shared a row with Lydia and Scott shared a row with Stiles so Lorelei had a row all to herself.

"I don't want to know."

Lorelei, Lydia, Allison, Scott, and Stiles all woke up to the sound of Coach's yell. Lorelei, who was in her own row, rubbed away the tired from her eyes as the man continued. "I really don't want to know, but in case you missed the announcement, the meet's canceled, so we're heading home." He said and all the other students that were lined up outside of the bus cheered.

Loreleri pulled her phone as the bus started to fill. Considering she sat alone on the drive to the Motel, she wasn't expecting anyone to sit down beside her so when someone did, she was a little confused. She turned her head and was shocked to find Ethan in the seat beside her.

"I don't know what happened last night, but I'm pretty sure you saved my life." Ethan said, looking down at Lorelei just as she let out a shocked laugh. "Pretty sure?" She asked, making Ethan roll his eyes. he scooted a little closer to her to be a little more secretive and leaned down so he was closer to her ear.

"Whatever. You saved my life and my brother really likes you... so I'm gonna give you something." He said and Lorelei tried her hardest to hold back a smile at the fact that Ethan admitted that Aiden liked her. Not just liked her, really liked her.

"We're pretty sure Derek's still alive." Ethan said and Lorelei's jaw fell. She looked up at the boy with wide eyes, silently asking him if he was telling the truth. When Ethan nodded, Lorelei blinked in shock a few times, turning to face ahead of her.

"But he killed one of ours. That means one of two things can happen. Either he joins our pack... and kills his own. Or Kali goes after him, and we kill him. That's the way it works." Ethan explained quietly, not wanting anyone else to hear him even though all of the other werewolves in or entering the bus probably could. Lorelei let out a small breath at Ethan's words.

"That's... barbaric." Lorelei whispered, her eyes wide as she stared at the seats ahead of her and Ethan. She finally turned to the boy and nodded her head. "But thank you." She said, a small but grateful smile on her face. Ethan smiled back, nodding his head as a "you're welcome" before he got out of the seat and walked towards his shared one with Danny.

After a couple of seconds sitting alone, Lorelei felt someone fall into the seat beside her. Knowing who it was, Lorelei laughed as she turned her head to a very tired looking Isaac. "You feeling any better, bro bro?" Lorelei joked, putting her hand up to Isaac's forehead to check his temperature.

Isaac sighed, looking to Lorelei with a tired smile. "Could I sleep on your shoulder the ride back home?"

Lorelei smiled at the question, shimmying herself up so she was sitting taller in the seat before she patter her shoulder. "Come on." She whispered and Isaac muttered a small thank you, resting his head on her shoulder and almost instantly falling asleep.

Lorelei felt herself smile at the fact that Isaac felt safe enough to do that. She wanted him to be able to have someone like that. Ever since he joined the pack, Lorelei always felt like he was a brother to her. She was just glad that he was seeing her as a sister.

Carefully, without waking him up, Lorelei unlocked her phone and opened her camera app, taking a photo that was probably the worst angle she could get of the boy and snapped a photo. Lorelei chuckled, proud of herself for being able to take the photo. She put her phone back in her pocket and rested her head atop Isaac's, spending the whole ride home trying to figure out how she could stop the Darach before the Darach kills her.
