Kakeru's PoV

Seeing that excited smile on her face is enough to make my day already.

Takara and I are on a date since it's the weekend and I have no work. All the other guys are either on a date (*cough* Satoru *cough*) or chilling at home (*cough* Shiki).

All we did was window shopping and she looks so joyful. She's so easily satisfied. I reached for her hand and felt tension shoot through her as soon as I touch her. I intertwine our fingers as I watch her get red and chuckle quietly.

After what we overcame together, we're finally going out. It's been three months since, and we go to see little Canon every week. These three months had been the best times of my life.

Just as we are half way through the day, my phone rang and both of us instantly got a bad feeling. It was from Haruhito from the house.

"Kakeru! According to Sheeks, the Fate Database had sudden changes and there's a toastee in the next couple of hours."

"Understood, meet me at the house."

I gave Takara an apologetic gaze. She knew my work was always unstable. She nodded. She was always understanding, but still couldn't hide the disappointment in her eyes.

I set up a barrier and carried her in my arms as I flew back to the house. It was the fastest way.

By the time I got there, everybody was waiting at the door already to be in action. I dropped her off in the living room and quickly went off with them.

"The usual routine." I said and everybody else nodded.

We finally found the woman we were looking for just coming out a publish building with a dirty-blonde-haired man right beside her. They were chatting before they parted ways.

"Name of candidate?" I asked as I kept my eyes on the girl.

"Sachiko Sakura."

Her hazel eyes had a fresh sense of determination in them as she walked, her black and ginger hair swayed left and right in the breeze. Her hair starts as jet black but gradients to ginger just a few inches after. The ends of ginger hair swung at her waist. Slightly pale skin matched her hair.

I've gotta admit, she's gorgeous.

"Shame for such a beauty to die so young." Satoru commented. Then went up walking behind her. Haruhito and Cerberus ran out in front so it'll look like Cerby knocked her over and she falls into Satoru's out-stretched arms. Then he could use his power on her.

Cerby ran out, attempting to knock Sachiko over but to my surprise her reflexes were really fast and she stepped back just in time to avoid the dog-but still bumped into Satoru who was right behind her. So any who the plan still worked. Any physical contact on his hand can activate Satoru's power.

"I am so sorry about my dog." Haruhito rushes up and pretends to apologize to her while Satoru sneaks back without notice.

Never happened before, Satoru came back without his usual self-assured and confident smile. In fact, he looked kinda shocked.

"What's wrong?" I asked, then Haru came back with Cerby as well.

"I...couldn't see her future clearly." He mumbled, "all I saw was her crossing the street, it was so short I couldn't see anything else."

"So it's a car accident. Done. I'll mind control a driver." Shiki said tiredly. He wants to go back home to sleep as soon as he can.

If even Satoru was acting so unsure this should be a bit risky. He fools around with women a lot, but when it comes to work, he never jokes about it.

"It should be alright. I mean, what else could it have meant?" Haru, being his usual optimistic self.

"There." Shiki came back after mind controlling a truck driver. I nodded in approval.

It was a quiet street. We've set barriers so people outside will look at it as the road's under construction.

"I see her." I inform everybody and we all spot Sachiko looking both sides before walking across the road.

Shiki's eyebrows creased as he controlled the truck to go full-speed at her out of nowhere.

She was already in the middle of the road, it'll be too late for a human to run anywhere out of the truck's reach.

When she spotted the truck coming at her, the only change in her was a bit widen of eyes and mouth, she scooted back, and led the truck straight into a large tree which diameter was probably larger than three feet. The truck crashed into the thick tree, leaving her completely unharmed.

"Wha..." Haru was speechless. All of us were. Even Shiki's eyes were wide.

"How'd—?" I can't even form words as I walked up to this girl.

"Jeez, who messed up?" Satoru muttered more to himself than anyone else. Dang. Mistakes haven't happened ever since Takara. How'd this happen again?!

It was then that Sachiko looked at us directly. With no expression she scanned through us. Then narrowed her eyes.

"You were supposed to be toast." Shiki grumbled.

"You're the ones who messed up." She spoke for the first time with an incredible arrogant attitude despite the position she's in right now.

"Doesn't matter, we can just do it now." Haru insisted.

"Yes." I reached out to her so I can take her soul.

"Wait! What?" she jumped back.

Shiki let out an exasperated sigh as Satoru said: "Sachiko Sakura, you are supposed to be dead. But due to some sort of mistake you avoided it, so we have to kill-you-now."

That sums everything up.

"Get it now? We're just doing our jobs, it's eco-friendly." I say losing my patience as I grab her again, or at least tried to. She ducked out just in time again. She has really quick reflexes.

"You're demons?" she asked. How does she know the term...?

"That's right." Haru answered before I could say anything.

"Enough explaining, now stay still so we can get this over with." I say and got a grip on her wrist before she could react this time.

"Wait-no! I can't!" she shouted trying to break from my grasp. She was surprisingly a lot stronger than all the human girls I've encountered, but still not enough to pull away from me.

"Stop struggling. It'll make things easier for us." Shiki sighed.

"Please." She suddenly calmed down, "I need more time, please. Can I just have...ten more days?"

"Huh." Satoru huffed while Haru stared. Another girl asking for ten days.

"No. We can't do this." I stand my ground, "this has already been done before, not again."

"And that led to your life-long happiness?" Haru taunted at the worst possible time. True. It was only because I allowed her 10 more days that Takara and I are in love now. But what're the odds for that to happen again?

"I don't think it'll hurt. We'll just do it over again." Haru suggested.

"I won't mind if Kakeru doesn't." Satoru said, backing down.

I was about to ask for Shiki's opinion when I saw his bored expression and I know all I'll get is an 'I don't care'.

"...Fine. Ten days, starting today." I announced. She let out a small sigh in relief. "Thank you." But quickly tense up again and looked me in the eye. I can tell she's waiting for the 'but' that'll come right after. And she's right.

"But we will all have to take turns watching you over these ten days. And when time's up, you're toast. For sure." She nodded.

"Are angels gonna come looking for me?" she asked while looking around.

"Yes...but how'd you—" Satoru answered halfway, didn't get to finish when she asked again: "Am I supposed to stay with you guys?"

"Yes, we all live in a demon house, that—" I said, or tried to. What annoys me is that she kept on cutting us off: "Are we flying? It'll be much faster." She still hasn't made eye contact as she swung her purse over her shoulder, as if ready to float any minute.

"Of course we are!" Haru said energetically and already took off. I shook my head and set a barrier after him.

The four of us with Sachiko having a piggyback ride on Satoru flew back to the demon house, where Meguru was just out the front door taking out trash and Takara was probably in the living room waiting for me to return.

"Oh, Kakeru!" Meguru shouted before he spotted Sachiko with us as we landed. "Who's that?"

While Haruhito explains everything to him, Satoru showed her into the house and Shiki-being Shiki-plopped down onto the sofa, not even bothering to go upstairs.

As soon as I entered, I was greeted by the smiling face of Takara: "welcome home! How'd it go?"

"Well..." I wasn't sure how to describe the situation so I stepped aside for her to see Sachiko.

Takara studied her while she took in her surroundings before their eyes met.

"You must be Takara." The edges of Sachiko's lips curled up, but she wasn't smiling, "hi. Call me Saki. I'll be here for ten days max."

"U-um...hi...." Takara stuttered as she watched her in a daze.

Did someone tell her Takara's name? I didn't think much about it since she was with Satoru just a while ago, he probably told her.

We introduced ourselves for the first time, letting her know all of our names.

"By the way, why'd you ask for ten more days?" Meguru asked out of curiosity.

She just averted her gaze: "nothing you should worry about."

"Fine." Satoru said back at her attitude.

"Where do you work?" I got down to business.

"Enjo publish building, Seasonelle magazine."

So she's an editor, like Takara. Wait, Seasonelle?

"I read that every week." Satoru mumbled. Sometimes I read it too. With Takara, that is. She reads it.

"Okay...Satoru will follow you to your work tomorrow and keep an eye on you." I announced. I fully expected her to protest but she just nodded silently as if she totally saw it coming. If it was Shiki he'll definitely groan about it, but Satoru doesn't complain about workload

"Somebody, show Sakura to her room and..." I turn my gaze to Shiki, who was sleeping on the sofa, "drag him upstairs in his room."

~~

"We should have a welcome party!" Haruhito said energetically-as usual-after Sachiko went into her prepared room, just next to Takara's.

"Sure. Why not? It'll be fun." Takara smiled.

"No thanks." We all turn to the voice source just at the bottom of the stair case. "I'm not all parties, besides, I'm meeting a friend today."

How'd she get down so fast...?

"Aw come on! It'll be fun!" Haru pressed on, but she just shook her head.

"Can I get some water?" She asked and Meguru showed her to the cupboard. I watch as she got on her tiptoes but still couldn't reach the lowest board. When this house was designed, female weren't thought of, a lot of the shelves are too high for Takara to reach, as well.

"Here." Meguru reached over her and took down a glass cup for her.

"Thanks." She mumbled and went to the sink. Hey-sink water here isn't drinkable for humans! I quickly stop her from getting any and poured her boiled water instead. She looked at me, puzzled.

"Sink water here isn't drinkable. You'll get sick." Meguru said with traces of worry. Doesn't she know this? It's common sense!

"Really? I was always just fine." She took a sip of the boiled water.

"I need to go out." She stated, Satoru stood up. I like how efficient he does his work.

A few minutes after they left, Meguru spoke up: "Sachiko, she's so...cold."

"I know right! Who doesn't like parties!?" Haru exclaimed.

Meguru shook his head, "not that. She's literally cold. I felt it when I got the glass for her. It was like standing behind a block of ice."

"That can't be." I muttered. Young demons like Meguru has a body temperature of 20~25°C, it gets colder as they age. For demons like me and the rest of the team, it'll be at most 10°C. If Meguru says she feels cold, she must be even lower than ten degrees...that's not possible. "You must've felt a breeze or something, that's uncanny."

"You're probably right...." He scratched the back of his head and went to prepare dinner.

"I don't care what she says! I'm throwing a party for her!" Haru suddenly piped up.

"More like throwing yourself one." I muttered.

Satoru's PoV

I tried to offer her a hand when there was a big step up a stair. For giving another chance to see if I can get her future clearer. But she shook her head at me and stepped up on her own.

I sat on a bench at the other side of the round garden pretending to just be chilling when Sachiko stood across waiting for whoever.

"Hi!" I look to my right to a girl waving at me. She looks fine herself, but her hair color looks like dog barf.

"Hey." I flashed her a smile and reached out a hand to her, helping her take a seat beside me while looking into her. When I saw that her uncle was the CEO of a company famous in Osaka, I kept talking to her. Then, she left after giving me a piece of paper with her number.

My attention went back to Sachiko, just in time to see a guy appear beside her suddenly. I just thought it was because I got a little distracted by that girl that I didn't catch how he came. It's a male friend? He actually looks quite familiar....

I saw him on Seasonelle once. He's a model...what's his name........

At his appearance, she smiled. Whoa. She's stunning when she's smiling. It's the first time I've actually seen her smile. Are they really just friends? Or is this her boyfriend?

He smiled as well and they started walking after a few words.

I remember him now! Tsubasa Shirai. Isn't it?

Wait no...this name is familiar in a whole other level....

Knots kept playing in my mind as I follow a few meters away from behind.

"Wanna take a fly?" he offered. More knots were in my mind now. Is he talking about a plane ride?

Then it hit me: angel. Dang it! I'm supposed to keep her away from them! But why's she friends with one anyway?

"Nah, not today." She shook her head.

"Really? You always take it up."

They continued a stroll around the whole park, about an hour has passed. They said some partings before he walked off in the opposite direction.

As soon as we got back to the demon house, and Kakeru asked for a report. I said: "she was with an angel."

"...come again?" everybody else except Sachiko asked. She just sat still on the sofa with zero expression.

I know for sure that they all heard me loud and clear so I didn't repeat it. Just crossed my arms.

All eyes turned to Sachiko and she had no choice but to explain, "Tsubasa is an angel, but we've known each other for years. Me being 'toast' doesn't matter. Besides, he didn't even find out." She put air quotes for 'toast' as if it was just mythical.

"But still! He's an angel!" Kakeru half-yelled while straightening his tie. Takara patted him on the arm to calm him down.

"I'm not all buddy-buddy with Tsubasa...." Haru started saying, "But I know Rein very well!"

She didn't speak.

"Any who, we were supposed to be throwing a party for you!" Haruhito added with his usual enthusiastic attitude, he was way too cheerful most of the times.

Sachiko's expression was unreadable as streamers popped around her and a few balloons fell from the ceiling-somehow. I thought they cancelled the party because Sachiko hated the idea? I guess Haru isn't one to listen, anyways.

"Come on, Sachiko, cheer up!" Meguru insisted and pulled out a chair for her at the dining table, where she took a seat and Takara sat down beside her. I guess girls still got along with their own, they soon started talking. Takara, being herself was smiling all the way; while I can tell Sachiko was half putting up with it.

"Such a hassle...." Shiki groaned as he lay his head down on the table.

"Yo, Satoru? The usual?" Kakeru challenged. And I took it up by taking a wine bottle, saying: "of course."

We always had a drinking contest whenever we can, and it usually ends up in a tie.

As we downed five bottles of red wine, Takara started to get anxious. Sachiko simply stared.

"That was like water." Kakeru said while popping open a bottle of shochu.

"Water? It was like air to me." I say and reached for the same kind of drink.

"Hey...that's enough for today, don't you think?" Takara tried to stop us, but it was always impossible. This is a man's game.

Shiki's PoV

So sleepy...I just wanna go to my room and sleep til tomorrow. Is that too much to ask?

Those noisy idiots are having a drinking contest again.

"What?!?! We ran out!?" both of them shouted after ten bottles were drowned by each.

"That wasn't nearly enough!" Satoru furrowed his brows and as did Kakeru.

"Shiki, you go with Sakura to get more from the convenience store." Kakeru ordered.

I was about to protest, but she already stood up. We can't possibly leave her alone. Ugh..why me?

On our way, all could be heard was our footsteps. It was late at night not many people are out. I'd be sleeping normally by this time.

I'm not one for small talk and it seems that neither is she. After we went into the store she went to the drinks section while I went straight to the snacks section and looked for Crackle Jacks.

There was this new limited edition of a rare Sirius pirate ship that only has a 5% chance of getting one, and the deadline was three days from now. I'd tried looking for it but no.

"If you're looking for the Sirius pirate ship model, it's in this one." Suddenly a voice rang from beside me and Sachiko holding up a box of Crackle Jack came into view.

How does she know that? She only just picked up one box.

When I didn't show no reaction, she took everything to the counter-including the Crackle Jacks box-after paying for everything she dragged me out of the store and as soon as we were out, she unwrapped the box.

My eyes widened uncontrollably at the beautiful limited edition of the Sirius ship lying inside the wrappers of snacks.

"Thanks...." I muttered while she took out the piece and handed it to me. I can't help a smile growing on my face. She probably noticed it, but I can't supress it. I'd been looking for this model for such a long time.

On our way back, we passed by a clover bed field by the street. I came to a quick halt. I remember one time when Takara was babbling—she does that a lot—she mentioned a four leaf clover being lucky and bliss.

I'd fallen for Takara unintentionally throughout her love story with Kakeru. Though I'd rather be stuck with Haruhito for a month than to admit it in words.

"Four leaf clovers mean nothing...it's just a story." I heard her again as I nodded in agreement that I'd actually thought about it for a minute. Humans always believe in these little things. We carried on home with bags of beer in our hands.

When Satoru and Kakeru were finally done with their stupid contest. None of them were actually drunk. They both do hold their liquor very well.

Bored outta my mind, I took a sip of the lemonade Meguru had prepared hours ago for the party.

But...it wasn't how lemonades should taste.... It was...

Spicy!

As much as I hate panic attacks, I ran to the kitchen and poured water on my tongue.

A few seconds after, all the others did the same except for Sachiko and Satoru. Even Takara went gulping down water.

"Satoru! What the heck!" Haruhito shouted hoarsely due to a spiced throat.

"Sandwiches weren't supposed to be filled with hot sauce!" Meguru said angrily.

Satoru just laughed, as usual. What was surprising is that Sachiko also cracked a small smile, which wasn't something I saw before.

"Can't you guys smell the chili in the food?" she said with hints of laughter in her tone.

"She's good." Satoru remarked. Then I saw a fresh plate of Doritos in front of them left untouched, Satoru probably ruined them with hot sauce.

The party ended with most of us angry with Satoru but they all still had a great time. By the time everybody went back to their rooms and, well, Takara went to Kakeru's.... I quickly went back into my room and was thankful that Kakeru's room was at the other end of the floor.

Clean up work laid to Meguru. But as always he doesn't seem to mind one bit. Housewife's perspective, am I right.

Meguru's PoV

When I was half-way through tidying up, a slender hand suddenly started whipping the table using a cloth with me. I jerked my head up to the top jet-black hair of Sachiko. What's she doing here? Didn't she just go up to her new room?

"I feel bad letting you clean all this mess up by yourself." She explained before I could question.

"Oh. Then don't. I do this all the time." I assured her with a smile.

She shook her head: "can you pass me that?" I handed her the cleanser for oil drops and crumbs on the table. I purposely angled my hand in a correct position, when she reached for it her fingers covered mine briefly.

"!" Her fingers are freezing. Even for me. My features must've stiffened, she looked at me with concern in her eyes. I shrugged it off.

"It's just that, starting tomorrow you have nine days left to live." I say, reminding her, "use your time wisely okay? Whatever your reason for asking for more time is."

She nodded with a blank expression. Unlike with Takara, who's basically an open book, I can't tell what Sachiko's thinking at all.

A few minutes of silence passed, when I hoped that maybe she'll share her story with me.

But she didn't.

Cleaning finished and she went back upstairs with a simple 'good night'.
