fourteen, fear burning

"you're a monster"

Lusine Volkov knows the truth. She knows what her family had hidden from her behind lock and key. She knows what her mother dearest had done, the crime that didn't even seem to eat at her like it would any average being.
Her own heart was blackened by the burn. Gone to ruins; beyond repair. As if her heart had been ripped out all over again by the clutches of death herself, grinning as always.
But Lusine had to be strong. Strong as the warrior she'd been forged into by life; the warrior she'd needed to be or was told she'd needed to be.
In keeping with bravery, she had to face up to her mother who'd plotted murder of the woman Lusine intended to spend the rest of her life with and come to terms with the fact that her own life could be in danger.
She carried her dark aura with her, tucked in the folds of her beautiful dress. It surrounded her and her every movement without a single fault. It was a part of her now; a part that could not be fixed. Her entire complexion was dismal, from the head filled with ghosts to her body clothed in the night sky.
She was a whirlwind of disaster and she was heading right for her suspecting parents, who she knew waited for her in anticipation of what destruction she would throw at their feet.
With one forceful movement, Lusine swings open the door and glides into the room. An indignant expression rests upon her, but she can't help but smirk as her mother stares at her in complete and utter helplessness, though that brain whirred behind her frozen eye-balls as it searches for an escape plan, grasping at straws.
"I know what you've done, mother," Lusine begins, the hostility creeping into her voice as she lets it burn the ears of her victim. She takes another step into the room as her mother and father stare at her silently, but their faces say it all. "I also know what you're planning, and I know that you won't succeed. Especially not if you're dead."
Her violence was unsettling, to say the least. There was something deep rooted in seeing the daughter they'd raised wish death upon the mother.
"Lusine, we were only planning to ensure our safety. It was what was best for us. You're dangerous." Selene's attempts to make herself sound like the voice of reason only make Lusine's nostrils flare and her hands curl into agonising fists, ready to strike.
"Are you... Are you scared of me, mother?" Her angry fragility was now gone as soon as the scent of fear hits her, rushing up her nostrils and filling her lungs with fire. Her lips coil up and her eyes glisten with the fear feeding into her, fuelling her little by little.
"Yes."
That one answer, that one terrified response was all it took for the power to awaken. Bulan stands suddenly, his eyes wide. He knew what was happening to his daughter and he definitely knew what she feeds on. Fear sourced her power and made her strong, but fear from someone of her blood made that power even more to contend with. There was something deeply chaotic about its nature. That was intoxicating for her as its intensity floods her every sense, stampeding through her bloodstream like a herd of enraged wild horses. Crushing everything and anything in their path, they surge on and on, nostrils flared, eyes berserk.
Bulan turns to Selene in desperation, his hands grip her shoulders as whispers, "You may have just awakened the true power of the chaos within her. Our daughter is leaving us, Selene."
When he turns back to Lusine he sees her standing there with lips parted, the pupils off her eyes spilling over the colours staining them black. Her eyes were void, black and impossibly enchanting for something so terrifying.
Captivating.
No one could look away from the catastrophe unfolding before them. As witnesses, they stood, motionless and clueless. This was beyond anything either of them had ever imagined could happen to their child.
The death of a child and, yet, she lives on.
"What's happening to me?" She breathes, spinning around to the mirror to examine her black eyes. Her fingers prod at her cheeks as she finds herself admiring the void and all its glory, blinded by its rage and her solitary agony.
He places a hand on her shoulder. "Come with me, Lusine, you have much to learn about the power within you," He instructs, praying that his knowledge was enough to bring her back from the soul singing to her with every breath.
Lusine can't help but follow him. His teaching is tempting to her, too tempting to pass up. Selene does not follow. A coward she stands, a coward she will die.
Walking through the halls of Asgard Lusine keeps her head high and her walk mighty as she strides beside her father. It seems as if the dark waves of her dress were endless and her pride unstoppable, but when she opens the door to her chamber to see sweet little Cloris stood there with a vase of roses in her hands she can't help her own fear that breaks to the surface, gasping for air.
Cloris smiles when she sees Lusine. She places the vase down on the dresser top. "I thought you room could do with a little colour. Red roses are good, right?"
"Red roses are perfect," Lusine responds, watching the maid's every move, bunching her fists at her sides. The disappearing confidence unsettles her undeniably.
Bulan watches the confusion on her face, happiness unfurling inside of him when he sees just how much the two appear to care for one another. Sad to cut into the moment he says, "Cloris, forgive me, but I must ask you to leave for this is private business."
Cloris swiftly nods her head in complete understanding. She hurries to the door, her pastel pink dress swirling around her tiny ankles. She stops beside Luisne. "Are you alright?" She asks, reaching out a hand to comfortingly place on Lusine's wrist.
Before the caring contact is made, Cloris is thrown backwards into the wall. The power too much for Lusine; beginning to over flow. But at the sight of someone she deeply found herself caring about being tossed as if she were a letter ruined by an ink spillage, her eyes shift back to their ordinary blue.
She jumps back too, pressing herself against the wall away from Cloris. "I'm sorry," She breathes, not quite believing what she had done. She couldn't help but wish that it had been her mother in Cloris' place.
Bulan is the one who moves first, the only of the three not trembling. He steps forward and extends a hand for Cloris to pull herself up with. "Dear, you should get yourself to the infirmary. You could be injured."
"Thank you, King Bulan," She gives him a weak smile and hurries out of the room without so much as glancing at Lusine, rubbing her arm as she goes.
Lusine quivers where she stands, chewing at her lip and looking around the room in terror and calculation. A wolf backed into a corner, wild eyes searching for an escape route from an inevitable fate.
Bulan looks at her with the same level of calculation in his eyes. He takes a few steps forward, but Lusine pushes herself back against the wall.
"Don't come any closer, I don't want to hurt you, father," She rasps out, heart thundering in her chest with an unfamiliar feeling burning beneath it. Fear was not bitter flavour she'd tasted upon her tongue in many, many years.
"You won't hurt me," He says, "what just happened is an indication into what's changing within you. You're getting stronger, dear, and there's nothing you can do to stop it. The only thing necessary now is that you learn to control this power and that you learn to control it fast. What happened to Cloris wasn't just an over flow of energy, it was your power coming into play. You're stronger than you know, and that power will protect you."
"What do I need to do to control it?" She asks, letting her shoulders relax slightly.
"Learn how it works, practice it."
Lusine firmly nods her head, determination flowing through her veins, flushing out the fear one wave at a time.

also, bulan is such a good dad I love him so much and he deserves all the hugs in the world. Lusine actually loves him, she just can't trust him. and her telekinesis means that she's almost reached her 'final form'.
i'll post a chapter sometime next week, maybe.
love from lau
