"It's dark."

"Great observational skills, Stupid."

"Why are you out here Idiot?"

"Is it against the law to be out in the dark?"

"No, but it is against the beach rules. Can't be here after eleven."

"You're here though."

"I am here to check for idiots and I found one, better go write you a ticket."

"Write me a ticket tomorrow, for now just let me breathe."

He was hesitant to leave, he noticed how she was shaking under her knitted jumper.

"You should go, it's freezing."

"Starting to care? How sweet, talk like this tomorrow, just leave me for now."

"Are you drinking beer?"

"Diet Coke."

"Oh."

"Why did you throw away the necklace?"

"It didn't belong to me."

"You should have given it to lost and found not cause pollution."

"Yeah well-"

"Do you miss her?"

"What?"

"The owner of the necklace, do you miss her?"

"How did you know?"

"I'm not just a pretty face, I guessed. Do you miss her?"

"Would I have thrown the necklace if I did?"

"Touché."

Awkwardly, he shoved his hands in his pockets. She wasn't herself, her complexion was too pale and her hands were shaky as she held onto the can for dear life. Her eyes were red, perhaps from tears.

"Why were you crying?"

"What?"

"You were shaking and it isn't that cold so you were crying but why?"

"Underneath all that hatred for life, you are quiet smart. Who knew?"

"Funny."

"See you tomorrow Stupid."

"Don't bother me Idiot."

As she walked away from him, he couldn't help but watch after her, wondering, questioning, hoping everything was well for her.
