Chapter 2: The Weirdo On Maple Street

"YOU two want anything to drink? We have OJ, Skim Milk.. What else.." Mike says as he clicks his tongue. You turn around the wooden bannister, Your sore eyes take in the sights as you step into the living room, all around the room there's picture frames scattered, on shelves, tables, almost everywhere. There's even a large chair and a television. El finally joins. "Hi." She says, rubbing her fingers along the antenna. You can't help but glance at the Televison as El touches it, eyeing her with a heavy heart.

Mike finally finds us, joining us in the living room as he stands beside us. "This is the living room, its mostly used to watch TV." He notices El looking at the TV's Antennas.. and smiles lightly. "Nice right? Its a 22-Inch. Its like, Ten times bigger then Dustins." Mike says, smirking at you, Eleven, still interested but walking around idly, walks away from the TV as Mike speaks. You follow behind her, eager to examine more of the living room.

She looks up on a shelf examining portraits of Mike and his family. "Pretty.." She says, touching the wooden outer-rim of a framed picture, inside a girl with weird hair around her face stares back at El through the frame; a bright smile plastered on her face. You approach the frame and stare at it too, your eyes linger maybe for too long. "Yes." You say almost questioning.

"I guess. That's my sister Nancy," Mike declares as El looks over at another frame. Her doe eyes taking in the frame."Who is—Who is this?" You ask, pointing at the slightly larger portrait with a small baby. "Thats Baby Holly, my little sister." Mike says. El looks over at another photo which shows Baby Holly, Mike, Nancy and two other people. "Those are my parents." He says, you look back at Mike as he continues to speak.

"You know-- Parents, do you have any?" He asks, You shake your head in response. What are those? El walks to a recliner in the middle of the room with mild interest. "Thats our La-Z-Boy. That's where my Dad sleeps. Go ahead try it out. Its fun." Mike finishes, gesturing for you to sit. El sits on the chair first, glancing over at you, she pats beside her. Gesturing for you to take a seat. Mike crouches down next to the recliner and smiles, not sure what to say obviously but just happy to see us happy.

You sit next to her, theres only a little bit of room left. "Watch this. Its cool." Mike says, he pulls something on the side of the chair and the two of you fall backwards, as the recliner turns into a bed. It's actually quite comfortable, you wouldn't mind sleeping here for a few hours.

Eleven gasps for a moment before smiling, Mike notices the look on El's face and speaks, "Go ahead, try it." Eleven grabs a bar on the right side of the La-Z-Boy and everything flips back to normal. You and El trade glances, smiling at each other.

This is fun.

Third Person

Joyce dashes up onto the sidewalk, her steps quick and disorganized, she makes her way to the store glass front door. She swings the door open quickly, and forceful, not minding the small bell that chimes loudly on her arrival.

She makes her way to the front counter, her hands in her pockets as she approaches. She turns around looking at a shelf against the wall holding phones at the very top.

"You know that storm that hit? I-I need a new phone." She stammers, she turns around to look at Donald. He grabs a box with a large blue telephone drawing imprinted onto it.

They walk up to the counter, Donald rings up the box, "22.56." He says, Joyce grabs her left wrist with her right hand as she speaks, "Uh, Yeah. I gave Jonathan all my money. For-for the posters. I. I need an Advance." She says, waving her hand. Her eyes show a woman's pride, already demolished, having lost her child, and having to ask for an advance makes it worse.

"Uh, well, of course." Donald says, he grabs a clipboard from underneath the counter and starts writing. "Yeah, I was thinking more like, two weeks." Joyce says, Ronald looks up at her and stops writing.

"I understand but I need to pay Jeffery for covering--" Donald stammers— trying to argue his point in any way possible but gets cut off.

"Donald listen, I've worked here for ten years, have I ever called in sick or missed a shift once? I've worked-- Uh, Christmas eve, Thanksgiving. My boy is missing." She says, her voice breaking. Her eyes glossing as she continues speaking. "He's missing and I don't know if I'll ever see him again." She breathes in one deep breathe unsteadily. "Or if he's hurt." She exhaled the deep breath as she hits the counter lightly. "I need this phone and a two week advance." Joyce finishes, Ronald looks up at her, Pity obviously visible in his eyes. He bites his lip and writes on the clipboard again.

Second Person POV

Mike grunts as he slams a small green, alien looking figurine on the table and starts speaking in another tone, almost like a grandmother. "Ready are you?" He questions, he moves the figurine around for a moment before explaining who it is. "Thats Yoda, he can use the force to move stuff with his mind, like this." He explains as he makes a whooshing sound and pushes all of the toys off of the table and onto the floor.

Eleven gets up and walks over to some trophies sitting atop a dresser, she bends down to get a closer look, you stand beside her and eye the trophies eagerly, you've never seen anything like it, the colored photos draw your eyes to them almost every time you look away. "These are my science fair trophies, we got first every year, until last year, we got third. Mr. Clarke said it was totally political." Mike says, smiling in pride.

Theres something missing though, in a small picture beside one of the trophies shows all of the boys and one other kid. You remember the kid, somehow. You just can't figure out how. Eleven points at the picture, her mouth slightly agape. "You know Will, did you see him last night? On the road?" Mike asks, but before you can respond. The sound of a car pulling into the drive-way stops you.

Mike looks pulls up the blinds and looks out the window. "Shit, Shit. We gotta hurry." Mike grabs El's wrist and she grabs your hand, Mike pulls all three of you along. Dragging you up along the steps leading upstairs as the door opens: Who you assume is Mike's mother and Baby holly stand at the door, Mike's Mom locks the door behind her without glancing back at the stairs, assuming no one's home. Mike drags the two of you out of sight just as she turns around, letting go a small breath before he has to confront her.

"Ted? Is that you?" Mike's mom asks, Mike drags the two of you along the second floor of the house till you reach his room. Having recognized his footsteps she assumes it's Mike; which is correct. "Mike?! What are you doing home?!" She yells back up the steps.

"One second!" He yells back, he runs inside of his room and to an open closet. The door hangs open with clothes swinging lightly in the wind. "You have to get in, My mom will kill me if she finds you here." Mike says, El and you stand in front of the closet as Mike continues speaking. "I won't tell them about you, I promise." He finishes.

"Promise?" You and El ask in unison. You trade glances before looking back at Mike. "Its means something you can't break, ever." He responds, Mike's mom starts walking up the steps, "Mike?"

"We'll be fine Eleven." You say, and grab her wrist. You step into the closet with El beside you as Mike closes the closet door.

.. / ... . . / -.-- --- ..- / - . -.

Something grips your wrist tightly, you look over, your vision finally coming back. "You okay?" She asks. You smile lightly. "Yes. I'm okay." You respond, El looks over at you, her eyes are glossy and red.

"Are you okay?" You ask, she nods and smiles a little. Her face barely visible through the crack in the doors frame. "You sure?" You ask again, a weird feeling overtakes you, one that feels like you need to protect her.

"Promise." She responds.

-Benny's Diner-

Third Person POV

"You must feel like a big city cop again huh, chief?" Callwell asks, the two of them looking over at Benny's dead body slumped over on the table. A single bullet into his head as the gun rests lightly in his hands.

"Yeah, but it was mostly strangers back then. Benny." Hopper sighs and shakes his head. "Benny was my friend."

-Wheelers Household-

Second Person POV

"Are you of your god damn mind Mike?" Lucas says, looking over at the two of us. "They know about Will." Mike responds, Dustin looks over at Mike, his face expanded in surprise.

"What do you mean they know about Will?" Dustin asks, Mike grabs the black and white photo and points at Will. "They knew he was missing, I can tell." Mike responds, placing the picture back down next to the trophy.

"You could tell?" Lucas asks, looking over at Mike as he shakes his head.

"Just think about it. Do you really think its a coincidence we found them on Mirkwood? The same place where Will disappeared?" Mike says, Dustin looks over at Lucas before speaking, "That is weird." Mike continues talking, "She said bad people are after her, and we practically know nothing about Ten and El other then the fact that they have numbers on their wrists! I think these bad people are the ones who took Will."

"If that's the case why dont they just tell us." Lucas says, his anger getting to him. He walks over to El and grabs her shoulders. "Do you know where Will is?! Do you know where he IS?!" He yells at her, you can feel your anger starting to bubble to the surface of your brain, making almost all bodily activities stop.

"Stop." You say, Lucas looks over at you. A smile painted onto his face. "Or what?" He gets in front of your face.

"Stop." You repeat, your eyes beginning to gloss. You swipe it with the sleeve of your shirt. You look over at Mike, and can see a glimmer of fear in his eyes as you speak to him. "This is nuts! We have to take them to your mom." Lucas says, Mike shakes his head. "No! Eleven said if we told any adults we would be in danger.

"Danger?" Dustin asks.

"Her names Eleven?" Lucas asks.

"El for short, his name is Ten." He nods over to you.

"You gave them names?!" Lucas asks incredulously, switching from looking at you to El.

"They're not dogs Lucas! I'm not gonna just walk around calling them him and her!"

"What type of danger Mike?!" Dustin asks, his fear visible on his face.

"Danger. Danger." Mike responds back to Dustin, looking back at him. Mike raises his index and middle finger into a finger pistol and points it at Dustin then at Lucas.

"No, No, No! We're going back to plan A. We're telling your mom!" Lucas yells, he runs up the small flight of steps to try and open the basement door to no avail.

You nod your head and you push your mind towards the door, and focus on it. The door slams shut, he tries opening the door again and you slam it closed again with your mind.

It feels amazing to use them again after so long.

You hear the doors lock click; but you didn't do that. You look over at Eleven and she nods to you. A slight amount of blood coming down from her nose.

All three of the boys turn to look at you two. You can feel the fear coming off from them. "No." You say, and sit up straight.

Volunteer Search Party; Near Hawkins Lab

"Chief, Come here for a second." Mr. Clarke says, Hopper jogs over to Mr. Clarke who's crouching beside a sewage pipe. He holds a small piece of fabric that looks like it might have came from a gown of some kind.

Hopper stares into the deep abyss shining his flashlight around, intense brown eyes searching the dark.

"You think thats a piece of his clothes?" Mr. Clark asks, Hopper takes the piece and examines it, holding it up to his eye. "Maybe." He responds, Calwell crouches down and looks inside the pipe. "No way a kid would crawl through that." He says, pointing his flashlight down, deeper into the sewer pipe.

"A scared kid might." Hopper adds, Calwell nods and stands up. Hopper gets atop of the pipe to follow it but a gate stops them from continuing.

A sign hangs from the gate with some words imprinted on them.

Hawkins National Laboratory Department of Energy.

-Wheelers House-

Second Person POV

"Hey guys, I brought down some food, Its meatloaf." Mike carrys a large tray with food on it. You look behind him, Lucas and Mike come down slowly after him. "No adults." Mike adds.

You look over at El and she messes with Mike's walkie-talkie. A slight static sound comes out after she pushes a button on the walkie. "Trust me they won't tell, Right guys?" Mike asks, turning to look over at the two other boys.

Dustin smiles before speaking, "We would've never upset you if we knew you had super powers." Mike punches Dustin in the leg and he groans in pain.

"What he means is that, they were just scared..earlier." Mike says.

"We just want to find our friend." Lucas adds.

"Friend?" Eleven asks. You look over at her and nod. "Like.. me and her? And you—the three of you?" You question the three boys.

"Yeah kinda like that. Will's our friend." Lucas responds.

"What is a friend?" She asks again, Lucas looks over at Mike before speaking. "Is she serious? A friend is-" Lucas gets cut off by Mike before he can say anything sarcastic.

"Someone who'd you do anything for." Mike says.

"You lend them your cool stuff, like comic books and trading cards." Dustin adds onto what Mike said. He looks over at Lucas and he sighs.

"Friends never break a promise." Mike says to you and El.

"Especially when there's spit." Lucas declares, grinning slyly.

"Spit?" You question, Lucas fake spits into his own hand and shakes Dustin's hand then speaks. "A spit swear means you never break your word."

"And, friends can tell each other things. Things their parents don't even know." Mike finishes, El gets up and walks over to a chess board. "Whats the freak doing?" Lucas asks. You shoot him a glare and he shuts up.

"Will." She says as she picks up a wizard figurine from the board.

"Super Powers." Dustin responds in amazement, trading glances with Lucas and Mike. You take a seat beside her and Mike sits down across from her.

She swipes all of the characters of the board and flips the chess board upside down onto the black side. Then places Will's wizard piece onto the board.

"I-I don't understand." Mike stammers. He looks at You and El with obvious determination.

You try to remember Will, anything about him, you close your eyes and see something else.  Something different then you usually do— Will lays behind a large wooden log with something choking the log, it almost looks like a black vine. That's all you see, until you open your eyes. "Hiding." You say, El opens her eyes and looks back at you; her eyes slightly wide in surprise by the new move you just applied.

"From who?" Mike asks, El places a figurine of a seven headed monster next to the wizard figurine. Dustin grabs the top of his hat and sighs.

-Somewhere Else-

A loud growl pierces the air.
