Chapter 91: Set aflame
When you're a high ranking diplomat you're always seen in a different light by the public. For instance, Tony Stark who happened to work in the highest ranking in the U.S military which meant he could make a big impact on some of the decisions his officers made. He would travel across the globe from one meeting to the next.
It was never easy, because he had a target on his back, and so did his family which consisted of his wife Pepper, his eldest son Harley, his second child Peter, and his youngest daughter Morgan. Harley was a spitting image of his father, he was rambunctious with a good head on his shoulders, even though most of the trouble that he found himself in was something he caused.
Peter was the quiet one of the bunch unlike his siblings, he always kept to himself, Peter loved learning, he was always telling his father random fun facts about anything and everything. His personality was like no other, Peter definitely had his dad's smarts and his mom's heart.
Morgan was a mix of both Tony and Pepper with her determination and stubbornness, she was always defending her brothers and protecting them, when it was really supposed to be the other way around. Funny thing is, Morgan is only two years younger than Peter but four years younger than Harley.
While causing trouble with Harley, Morgan hated when Peter tried stopping them, sometimes they were able to coax him into joining but a lot of the time Peter tries to stop his siblings. At the moment everything was content, each child was in their rooms doing their own thing.
Tony was in his office going through stacks of paper with a piercing headache, oh how he hated paperwork, Pepper would occasionally come in and check on him. Peter would also come and say hello, he would do it twice, one being he was ten years old and two he would forget that he came in the first time.
Tony never wanted his kids to grow up in the spotlight, they deserved to have a normal childhood, what their biggest concern was school and their safety. He didn't want to be his father, always lashing out when he was angry. He loved his kids more than life itself, so he only got frustrated from time to time.
Today was a pretty chill summer day, all three kids were on summer break, but that didn't mean Tony was off the clock. Some days he'd be cooped up in his office on conference calls, by the end of the day he was too exhausted to help Pepper with the kids routine.
It was the end of the day and Tony was finally done with work, he helped Pepper make dinner, they made spaghetti and meatballs. Thanks to Tony's Italian heritage it was homemade pasta, unfortunately Harley couldn't have any as he was allergic to gluten so they made him a pasta alternative.
After finishing dinner and talking about their day's Tony grabbed Morgan and tucked her in. "Goodnight Morgana." He said.
Morgan looked up at her dad as her eyes showed a youthful glow, "Goodnight dad, can you play with me tomorrow?"
Tony really hoped he'd be able to finish work early, "Of course sweetheart." He said leaning and kissing her forehead, Tony got up and turned off the light, closing Morgan's door finding his wife shutting Peter's room door.
They went to their bedroom and started getting ready to sleep, he laid down, pulling Pepper close and kissing her cheek multiple times. She giggled, "Tony stop." She said.
"Why should I do that love?" Tony laughed.
"Because we have work tomorrow Tony, that's why." She kissed him and then turned off her lamp, falling asleep, Tony did the same and fell asleep as well.

The Stark Residence 2 A.M.
As the peaceful vibe swept throughout the household each and every person felt safe and sound, the only one who stirred in their sleep was Harley, he awoke from his fantastic dream of building a giant robot, to go and use the bathroom.
He made sure to be extra quiet as his little brother was sometimes a light sleeper which didn't help the young boy whenever he had nightmares. Harley entered the bathroom and handled everything he needed to, after he was done washing his hands he exited the bathroom.
A strong scent overwhelmed his senses and he decided his bed could wait, he crept out to the living room to see where the smell was coming from, at first he didn't see anything but the glowing light and overwhelming heat, his house... was on fire.
He rushed to his parents room and opened the door, rushing to Tony's side, the house was slowly filling up with smoke. "Dad! Dad, wake up t- the house is on f- fire." Harley coughed.
Tony woke up and smelled smoke, waking Pepper up and getting her up, she ran to Morgan's room grabbing her daughter getting outside. Harley tried opening Peter's door but screamed out in pain. "Dad! P- Pete's doorknob is hot." Tony grabbed Harley and quickly got out of the house.
"I'm going to get Peter, stay with mom and wave down the ambulance!" He yelled to Harley.
Tony rushed back inside the scorching house grabbing a towel, getting it wet and raising it to his mouth. But getting to Peter's room, using the towel, opening the door seeing fire all around and Peter standing on the floor clutching his stuffed bunny in his arms. "Peter!" He yelled.
"Dad!" Peter coughed, he was having an asthma attack, Tony got through the fire scooping his son into his arms, putting the towel over Peter's mouth. He got them both outside and went towards the ambulance, "He... needs oxygen he's asthmatic." Tony said.
Paramedics took Peter away and put him on oxygen, Harley and Morgan were okay they didn't need a whole lot of oxygen, Pepper was treated too. Tony got treated as well.
It was total utter chaos, there were reporters and news casters, police and firefighters, Tony didn't want to speak to anyone, all he wanted to focus on his family and their condition. Unfortunately, they lost their house and everything in it, but a friend named James Rhodes or as Tony coined his best friend's nickname Rhodey, offered for them to stay with him and his family until they figured something out.
Tony was glad his family was safe and no one was hurt, besides Harley getting burned when he touched Peter's door handle. They found the criminal who committed this act of arson and locked him away.
But overall Tony knew he would be retiring sooner than expected. All that mattered was his family's safety, that came first over everything else.
