Chapter 66: Needing one another {30 day challenge}
Right so I'm warning you now everyone sadness is near. So if you want to continue don't say I didn't warn you. Somewhat inspired by scarletscaptain oneshot ☺️
On with the story!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
After the iconic snap of a Mad Titan's fingers, the whole world went quiet. And it stayed quiet for a long, unbearable time. People tried to move on, hidden in grief and an overwhelming cloud of sadness. Everyone had lost someone, families and friends, and the cemetery had become the most economic-boosting business.
Those who couldn't cope with their losses spiralled down a dark path of crime and error, too saddened that they lost people who were innocent, while criminals were unharmed. But the ones that didn't, the ones that refused to move on and accept vowed to do whatever it took for their planet to be restored to the way it used to be, as well as prevent anyone or anything from ever trying to threaten it ever again.
To speak for those who are speechless, to empower those who feel powerless, to protect those who can't protect themselves. You know who they are and what they're willing to sacrifice. A wise man once said, "If we can't protect the Earth, you can be damn sure we'll avenge it."
What are those heroes are doing right now at this very moment you ask? They're suiting up and are traveling through time when all thought it was impossible.
Guess it took some aliens to attack New York, an artificial intelligence destroying a country, and a purple titan wanting to create a mass genocide to convince them otherwise.
Every hero that are trying to fix he who shall not be named's destruction split into groups. Nebula and Rhodey would retrieve the Power Stone, Thor and Rocket would get the Aether, while Nat, Clint, Steve, Bruce, and Scott would split up in 2012 during Loki's Invasion to get the time and the tesseract stone, leaving Peter and Tony to Vormir.
Peter looked at the steep overbearing mountain as if it was falling forward which didn't settle his nerves. His father gripped his shoulder. The elder man asked confidently, "Ready to climb?".
Peter looked at Tony as if he'd gone mad, "W-wait climb?"
"Yeah kiddo we gotta climb how else are we gonna get up there?" Peter nodded as both him and Tony climbed as they were halfway up Peter stopped, looking at the sky.
"Pete? You okay?" Tony asked.
Peter looked up at his dad who had the expression of worry weaved across his face. He sighed softly, "I'm okay dad just... looking at the vast sky of colors." Tony smiled his son, who was an adult but was still the same as he was when he was a kid except wiser.
He's a great son, brother, hero, and contributor to society but in the back of Tony's head he would always wonder if Peter was really ready to do whatever it took to save the world. Not in a let down way, but because his son was so innocent, so pure, for him to make choices that wouldn't always be the best would be hard no doubt. But as Peter got older and matured (not that he wasn't already.) he proved his father wrong time and time again.
They rested for a minute before continuing on with their journey. They got up to the very top seeing nothing but an endless void of nothingness. Were they really sent to this planet to find nothing? They looked back at each other in confusion, what was going on?
Where are the tripwires? Or the explosives? They had no idea what to do so as they stood next to each other, making sure they were both close to the other. "Anthony Edward Stark."
Tony turned his blasters at the ready while Peter got into a stance ready to take names and kick butt. "And Peter Anthony Stark."
Peter could sense something or someone and then shadowy figure came out but he didn't look human his face was the complete opposite it was red it definitely wasn't what a human would look like. "Who are you?" Peter asked.
"I am the key to what you seek." The figure said back.
"Look Darth Maul I don't think you'll want to get your head blown off so I suggest you give us the stone and we'll be on our merry way." Tony threatened.
"I can't simply give you the stone there's a cost." He said.
"We'll do whatever it takes." Peter said.
The figure came forward even more making Peter and Tony gear up. "You can lower your weapons they're no use on me besides, I'm not exactly alive."
"Besides being the keeper of what we seek and other bs who are you?" Tony asked.
"They call me the Red Skull." The figure now known to them as Red Skull replied.
Peter gave a questionable look this is what we're dealing with? He thought. No fighting baddies today I guess. "Where's the soul stone?" Peter asked.
"It's not so much where it is but how you're going to get it."
Tony now was getting impatient, "Stop it with the riddles and tell us where and how to get it."
Peter puts his arm in front of Tony, "Dad, it's okay." Tony stared at Peter.
Tony knew that Peter was trying to calm the situation down, but this was getting ridiculous, "There are lives on the line son and if we don't get answers those lives will be gone forever either we do something now or face the consequences later."
Peter explained, "I know there are lives on the line, dad, but you can't just punch your way through here. We're on a foreign planet, and this is the Red Skull from the 1940s from Steve's time. And he said that we can't hurt him."
Peter turned to Red Skull and walked up to him. "Listen Mr. Red Skull we need to get the stone how do we do that?" Peter asked.
Red Skull nodded and proceeded, "The prophecy says if one seeks the stone it must require a sacrifice a soul... for a soul."
It took a few moments for it to click but Peter figured it out and went back to his dad with a look of sadness. "Peter what is it?" Tony asked.
Peter honestly didn't know what to say he was tongue tied, "D-dad one of us has to... we have to."
Whenever Peter had a hard time telling his dad something Tony would always brush a piece of hair behind Peter's ear and it would instantly calm him down. So that's what he did.
"Now tell me slowly bambi." Tony assured.
Peter looked at his dad with watery eyes, "One of us has to jump off the cliff in order to retrieve the stone dad." Tony pulled his son close in a hug.
"It's alright we can find another way." He said.
"Th-that's the thing dad there is no other way." Peter replied.
Whatever it takes.
Tony knew what Peter was thinking and didn't like it not one bit. "Peter I think you and I mean different people here."
Tony spoke lowly, "Do you think I wanna do this? We've been trying to get to this moment right here a-and bring everyone back."
Peter remained defiant, "Dad you need to be with mom and Morgan you're one of Earth's mightiest heroes we have to do what needs to be done."
Tony was equally as stubborn, "No Peter. I'm not gonna let you do this you have your whole life ahead of you college, marrying MJ, becoming a father that's among millions of things you have to experience."
He continued, "I've already lived my life more than you could imagine I've never been more proud of the man you've become and I love you with all my heart but I need you to stand down on this one please."
Peter sobbed as Tony brought him into his arms, "N-no I can't lose you too dad please no."
Tony spoke through tears of his own, "Everything will be okay I promise."
After the decimation Tony found his sixteen year old son in their house holding ashes in his hands turns out. It was Morgan he didn't know what to think but he said he'd fix this. And wouldn't stop at nothing until he had his wife and daughter back.
Tony wiped Peter's tears away as he looked down at him with hurt. This would be the last time he'd see him, and even in peril Peter was always optimistic and a beautiful outlook of life. When all thoughts of ruin and heartbreak clouded, he was the one to believe the world can and will be restored.
Tony backed away from Peter getting out of his suit, "I'm sorry Pete." Then used his blaster and blasted his son aways back to make sure he didn't try anything.
Peter coughed and saw his dad running towards the cliff. He webbed the backs of Tony's armor where his arms and hands were using his iron spider attachments and pulling backwards.
"I'm... not... letting... you... do... this." Peter strained. Tony pulled and turned making sure to knock his son in the head hopefully knocking him out. But that's not what happened.
(Tony did the same move Steve did in CACW it'd be better if you watched a clip from the movie to understand what I mean.)
Tony was about to jump and as he did Peter jumped with him webbing them both to the side of the cliff. Tony pleaded, "Dang it kid, I told you to stand down. When did you become so stubborn?"
Peter replied through stray tears that blurred his vision, "One I'm... not a soldier and two who do you think I take after." He tried to crack a smile but found his features too raw in emotion to do so.
"Pete web yourself up the cliff and let me do this."
"No! I've almost lost you more times than I can count I want you to see Morgan grow up not be a person that'll be gone." Peter replied.
Tony put a mini blaster on Peter without his knowledge so he pressed a button that sent Peter up the cliff just enough to stay away from Tony. "Dad please don't... please don't go."
"I'm sorry kiddo I'm doing this for you and everyone else remember whatever it takes."
"I love you dad." Peter said.
"I love you 3000 tell that to Morgan okay?" Peter nodded his head and watched as his dad proceeded to descend further until his blood pooled. There was a sudden crash in the sky like lightning.
(I know for a fact that Peter has died or gotten severely injured in more of my one shots than Tony so I had to sacrifice IronDad which I hated and I'm crying because of it.)
Peter got up in a strange orange abyss water type of place and looked around but there was no sign of Tony's body or Red Skull.
He felt something in the palm of his hand so he looked and he was holding the soul stone. Soon he was brought back with the team he dropped to his knees stuck in a loop of anguish.
"Peter where's Tony?" Steve asked. But Peter didn't answer so Nat stalked closely and got to Peter's level since he was on the floor.
"Маленький паук where's your dad?"
"H-he's gone." Peter replied in a small tone.
"What do you mean he's gone?" Clint asked.
"He sacrificed himself for this... this stone! I-It should've been me." Peter felt Nat's arms wrap around him which made him cry harder. Then the rest of the team hugged Peter.
They knew how much Tony loved his son and daughter even if there was a fallout. That didn't matter now the kid just lost his father who has sacrificed himself time and time again but this time he wasn't going to come home.
Once this was all over Tony wasn't going to walk into his house to find Pepper and Morgan. He wasn't going to be there when Peter got married or see Morgan be the young woman she will become. He's gone and there's nothing any of them could do to change that.
This... this was permanent and the amount of hurt and pain Peter felt was immensely scarring. He doesn't know how he's supposed to tell his mother and sister their husband and father are gone and won't return.
"I-it should've been me aunt Nat not him." Peter said.
"I know sweetheart I know but we're gonna get everyone back your dads death won't be in vain I promise." Nat told her nephew.
Peter nodded and tried to pull himself together and finish this once and for all. Let's just say he got some good hits on he who shall not be named. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
