Chapter 169: Are You Hearing Me?! REVAMPED

(Alright everyone, as you can see this chapter is once again a revamped one. There are a few things changed about this one than the original. Including the characters and the dialogue, let's see if those who've been here since the beginning of this book notice lol. Hopefully this one is better than the other one.)

Anyway, on with the other story.

Today was not starting in the way Peter expected, he woke up grogginess tainting his eyes as soon as he opened them. The world around him was quiet, at first when he was young, he thought his life was normal. Sign language was all he knew, that's how he communicated, when he got his hearing aids everything was so overwhelming and underwhelming at the same time.

Putting his hearing aids on and getting ready for school, once he exited his room dressed and ready to go besides having to eat breakfast he was ready for school. Peter walked out to the kitchen of the compound and saw his parents and sister. Both Tony and Pepper greeted him with a smile, "Morning Peter." His father signed.

"Good morning sweetie." Pepper signed.

"Morning everyone." Peter signed back.

"Ready for some breakfast?" Tony asked.

"Yes please." Peter sat down next to Morgan as she poured heavy amounts of syrup on her pancakes. "What are you doing at school today?" Pepper questioned.

Peter sighed, "I have a calculus test and a report on the American revolution to give to my teacher today." He was dreading his test, even though he studied for weeks beforehand.

"I know you're going to ace your test bud but good luck anyway." Tony signed.

"Yeah Pete! You're gonna be the best!" Morgan exclaimed, Morgan was always a loud kid, but she always knew when to turn down her tone. That's what Peter loved about her, she was being herself but she was also taking into account how he was feeling.

"Thanks dad." Peter signed back.

"You're welcome bud." Peter glanced at the clock and finished his breakfast because he had to get going, or else he'd be written up as late and he definitely didn't want that. "I gotta go." Peter signed.

"Bye bud, remember Happy's picking you up." Tony said.

"Bye." Peter signed, before heading out to the elevator and meeting Happy in the driveway.

At Midtown High School the entire place was pretty diverse, many teens from different backgrounds, Peter felt somewhat normal, he had his best friends Ned and MJ (though his crush towards the young woman would grow every time she gave him a sliver of her attention) and he had his interpreter Cecil, who arrived at school and was waiting for him at his locker. "Hi Cecil." Peter greeted.

"Morning Pete." He signed back, Peter turned to open his locker while Cecil saw Ned and Michelle walking towards him so he signed to him that they were coming.

"Peter, Ned and MJ are walking toward you." He said.

"Okay." He replied back. Ned and MJ had learned sign language when they were eight years old in third grade to help him and that made their friendship stronger than ever. Peter thought it was nice to communicate with other people other than Cecil and his parents.

"Hey Peter." They both said.

"Hey guys, ready for the calculus test?" Peter asked after he gathered his books and started walking with them to their first period.

"Yeah." They signed. The bell was heard as they entered their classroom Peter sat with Cecil so they could communicate. Cecil was a nice guy and has been with him for some years now, Peter had considered him one of his closest friends. Unfortunately Peter sat in front of Flash and he was trying to pick on him but Cecil wasn't having it she gave Flash the "back off or I'm gonna kill you and no one would find the body" look and Flash backed off but had a plan in motion.

After calculus Peter walked back to his locker, praying he didn't fail his test. Cecil stepped away to take a call, so unfortunately he had to leave Peter alone for a few minutes. Flash decided it was the perfect time to mess with Peter. "Hey Parker." Flash said. Peter had his back to him looking for his books. Once he turned around to see Flash standing there he jumped.

"Why didn't my spidey senses alert me?" Peter thought.

"Oh did I scare Puny Parker?" Flash teased as Peter rolled his eyes.

"I bet you're pretending to be deaf just for attention." Peter looked down; he didn't want to know what Flash was saying so he decided not to read his lips and Flash snapped when he didn't get the attention he wanted.

"You look at me when I'm talking to you." Flash said. But Peter didn't know what to do; he hoped Cecil would come back and help him. Flash pushed Peter up against his locker and then pushed him to the ground. Peter got hurt but he couldn't call for Cecil. Flash then proceeded to taunt Peter then got bored, Cecil walked towards him but didn't know what happened. Cecil saw Peter on the ground and ran toward him.

"Oh god Pete what happened?" He signed quickly, seeing a bruise on his cheek.

"Nothing, I'm okay." He replied, trying to brush it off.

Fortunately Cecil didn't take his bs excuse. "Peter Benjamin Stark I'm your interpreter and your friend. You need to tell me what just happened or I'm going to have to call your mom and dad." He signed demanding answers.

"Flash scared me and I didn't know what to do." Peter signed with a few stray tears falling from his eyes.

"Oh Peter, I'm sorry. My supervisor called me. I wish I didn't take that call. Now I have to tell your parents and I'm going to get fired." He said.

"I don't want anyone else to interpret for me, you're my friend and I'll help you." Peter signed.

"C'mon, we're going to the office and getting you home early."

"Okay." He signed back, Cecil helped Peter up and told the principal what happened while Cecil called Happy to pick them up and he did then Peter and Cecil walked into the elevator to the living room.

"Hello Peter and Cecil." Friday said. Cecil signed to Peter about Friday greeting them hello.

Peter nodded his head and waved. "He said hello to you as well Friday."

The A.I continued to talk to Cecil, "Should I inform Mr. and Ms. Stark of your arrival?"

"Yes please and thank you Friday."

"You're welcome Cecil." Friday informed Tony and Pepper of their arrival and headed to the living room where Cecil explained the whole situation and Tony started yelling at Cecil while Pepper tried to calm him down.

"What the heck Cecil!" He exclaimed.

"I'm sorry sir, my supervisor called and I didn't know what was going on." Cecil said, hanging his head low in embarrassment.

"Well because of your lack of common sense, my son got injured."

"Tony stop, it's not Cecil's fault." Pepper said.

Peter didn't necessarily know what was going on but he could tell his dad was mad and judging by Cecil's body language he was scared. So he tried getting their attention but of course nothing was working. So he hit the counter a few times and got everyone's attention.

"Peter stop." Tony signed.

"No it's not Cecil's fault, it's Flash's because he's stupid and doesn't know the definition of deaf. He's the only person in school besides Ned and Mj that doesn't treat me like I'm a freak."

"He may be my interpreter but he is also my friend. That doesn't mean you have to fire him for something that isn't his fault."

"Peter he shouldn't have taken that call and it is kind of his fault that you got hurt."

"No it's not dad, Cecil would've lost his job if he didn't answer that call."

Tony then said that made Cecil look even more upset than before Peter saw red, his father had no right to be rude to someone who was helping him with basic necessities of communication. "Dad! Whatever you just said was uncalled for and you know it." Peter signed.

"Don't take that tone with me." Tony signed.

Peter scoffed, he wasn't backing down, he was going to help his friend keep his job no matter the cost. "What tone? I'm using my basic communicating skills, I'm not stupid. Stop treating me like I am." Peter signed.

"Peter Benjamin Stark you're starting to get on my nerves!" Tony replied angrily.

"Good! Because Cecil has been with us for years and he deserves the world! You're trying to fire him for what a stupid kid did!"

"You don't get a say! You're a child."

"You're not listening, you're not hearing me!" Peter signed.

"Peter's right Tony." Pepper said to her husband.

The room went silent, Tony sighed and turned to Cecil. "No you're right Peter. I'm sorry Cecil."

"I promise sir, it won't happen again ever." Cecil promised.

Tony crossed his arms, "Good. Because you will be at his side 24/7."

Cecil smiled, "Thank you sir."

"Good news Pete I'm staying." Cecil signed to him. Peter ran up to him and hugged him. Then ran to Tony and Pepper and hugged them as well.

"I love you Mom and Dad." Peter signed.

"We love you too, Peter." They signed.

After that whole conversation Peter went to his room and did his homework and once his eyes started to feel heavy he decided to get dressed in his pajamas and fell asleep in his bed. Later that night after Tony and Pepper tucked Morgan in they saw their son asleep and kissed his forehead before going to bed themselves.
