Tony and Pepper had just come out of a few dozen meetings, exhausted, as it was seven o'clock in the evening. Both adults were ready to collapse, when, unfortunately Tony's phone began to sound. Sighing, he picked it up, holding it close to his ear. "Hello?" He greeted the other person on the opposite end.
"Hello! Is Toys R Us closed?" Pepper stared back at Tony, was that a little kid's voice? Was this some type of prank? Tony did NOT have the time for this, especially not when he was this tired.
"Look, if this is some sort of prank call-"
"No! This is not a prank call, I don't even know what that is! I'm looking for LEGOS, it's my friend Ned's birthday and I want to get him a present!" The little voice squealed.
Tony figured it out, this kid dialed the wrong number, he sounded like he was four, maybe five. "What's your name kiddo?"
"My mommy said I can't talk to strangers, but I'm Peter. Peter Parker! Who are you Mr.?"
"I'm Tony, Tony Stark. It's nice to meet you Peter. And I think I can help with your friend's present. Tell you what, I'll go to the store and find some LEGOS and send them to you. Sound good?" Tony replied.
"Yes! Thank you Mr. Stark!" They both gave a cheerful goodbye, and Tony told Pepper they had to go to the store to buy some toys for the kid and his friend. After they got what they needed they waited for a day, and then shipped it off to Peter's address. A few days later Tony received another call, he picked it up and was greeted by a happy little boy on the other line.
"Hi Mr. Stark! Thank you for the LEGOS!"
"You're very welcome Peter, what did Ned think of them?" Tony asked the young boy.
"He loved them! We both really like Star Wars." Peter informed.
"That's great kiddo, I'm glad he liked them."
"Where are you from Peter?"
"I'm from Queens! Where are you from Mr. Stark?"
Tony chuckled, "I'm from Manhattan, and for the last time kid, you don't have to call me Mr. Stark, that's my father."
Tony heard the voice of a woman in the background, and Peter was talking to her. "I have to go Mr. Stark! My mommy just got home."
"Alright bye Peter." For some unknown reason Tony felt a sense of fatherly protection towards the boy, it was weird, as they only knew each other for a few weeks. Peter was a tiny little kid who accidentally dialed the wrong number, a few more weeks went by and Tony found himself meeting Peter's mother, Mary Parker.
Peter persuaded her to invite him over for dinner, he promised her that Tony was a nice man who bought him and Ned LEGOs. A bad man wouldn't buy him LEGOs, Mary of course gave in, because who could resist Peter's puppy eyes? So that's where Tony found himself, standing in front of their apartment door, trying not to sike himself out.
He knocked, finally, and heard a woman, the door then opened and Tony saw quite a pretty woman greeting him. She smiled at him, "Hi, I'm Mary, Peter's mom. You must be Mr. Stark, c'mon in, dinner's practically finished." Mary stepped aside, allowing Tony to walk in, he looked around the cozy quaint flat smiling to himself.
While he was looking around Mary noticed he was holding a bouquet of flowers. "Oh, you brought flowers! That's very kind of you Mr. Stark. But you honestly didn't have to." She said,
Tony chuckled and waved her off, "I see where Peter got his mannerisms from, and don't worry about it I wanted to thank you for your hospitality. Also call me Tony, Mr. Stark was my father." He replied, while giving Mary the bouquet.
He then heard the tiny pitter patter of feet running down the hall, and a flash of chocolate brown curls caught his attention. When he was being greeted by an enthusiastic hello and cheeky smile. That was Peter, "Hi Mr. Stark! Welcome to my house! I'm very happy you're here." The boy told him.
"Well, I'm happy to be here too kiddo, didn't you say you had some LEGOs to show me?" Mary mouthed a silent thank you, as Peter, being the energetic kid he is, was bouncing off the walls excitedly waiting for Tony's arrival. This was the first time she saw him calm down, Peter nodded his head furiously, tugging at Tony's sleeve pulling him towards the hallway.
They entered Peter's room, and the little boy pulled out his LEGOs and began playing and building. Tony looked around the boy's room to see a picture of a couple with a little girl standing beside him and his mother. So he asked Peter who they were, "Oh, that's my aunt May, uncle Ben, and cousin Ellie. She's a few months older than me." Peter answered.
Tony nodded, and the two continued playing with the small building blocks, that was until Mary called them out to eat dinner. Once they got to the dining table everyone sat down and began eating. And soon it was time for Tony to leave, "Can Tony stay for a sleepover mommy?" The tiny boy questioned, Mary looked at Tony who looked right back at Peter.
He kneeled down to the kid's level, "Sorry bud, maybe next time okay? I have some boring adult paperwork to do." Tony told him. Peter looked disappointed, but Tony cheered him up instantly with one single promise.
"Hey, Peter, I promise that next week when I see you we can go get ice cream okay? But there's one thing you gotta promise, be good for your mom, and when she tells me about your good behavior we'll go get the frozen treats alright?"
Peter perked up, "Okay! I promise Mr. Stark." Mary was right, Peter wasn't going to stop calling him that for a while.
"Good job kiddo! I gotta go now but I'll see you later." As Mary began to walk him out Peter ran up and hugged him, which Tony reciprocated. He smiled, and bid his farewells to Mary, who was happy her son made the mistake of dialing the wrong number.
