Chapter 126: Drivers License
(Y'all are in for a wild emotional ride, and I have no doubt you know what the title means. Lol. Also I'm only using half of the song, like in the chapter Heather.)
Anyway on with the story.

"Out of all people you could cheat on me with, you had to pick some random girl named Gwen?!" Peter was furious, he was tired of the lies, tired of Harley being secretive, he had enough. "How many times do I need to apologize Peter? I've tried to fix this, to fix us, but you're so fixated on something that happened two months ago!" Harley shouted.
"Y'know what? I'm done, I can't do this anymore." Peter gathered his stuff, and began leaving Harley's house, and before he left out the door, he turned to Harley.
"If you actually loved me, you wouldn't have made me your second choice." And just like that, Peter was gone. He couldn't believe his four year relationship with Harley was ending the way it was, he really loved him. But he wasn't stupid, when Harley told him about seeing Gwen, he was heartbroken. He blamed himself for their relationship going wrong, when really their relationship was already washed down the drain.
So as Peter stuck his keys in the ignition, turning them, and backing out of the driveway, tears were sliding down his cheeks. Even though it was dark outside, with the clock reading two a.m; At the moment Peter didn't care, he just needed to get away from Harley, to be back home with May and hopefully get over this whole thing.
Peter turned the radio on in his car, he didn't know what song it was, but in the moment he needed to hear something depressing and sappy. I got my drivers license last week, just like we always talked about. Peter thought back to the time he'd just gotten his license, he was so excited, now he could see Harley whenever he wanted.
Cause you were so excited for me, to finally drive up to your house. Harley was happy for his boyfriend, he was excited to see him more. Peter's drive would take a few hours, as he was driving at night since Harley lived in Tennessee while he lived in New York. But today I drove through the suburbs, crying 'cause you weren't around.
And you're probably with that blonde girl, who always made me doubt. Soon their relationship hit the fan when Harley met Gwen Stacy, she was a blonde haired, blue eyed girl, she was confident, spunky, and fun. She was everything Peter wasn't in Harley's eyes. And soon he pursued the girl. He kept ignoring Peter's calls, his texts, and Peter was worried.
She's so much older than me, so one weekend Peter decided to surprise Harley, driving all the way to Rose Hill Tennessee, Harley's mom and sister knew he was coming, and when he got to the house and walked to Harley's room, the door was slightly ajar, and Peter got the tiniest glimpse of Harley, he was kissing a girl. That's when his heart broke into a million pieces.
Once they pulled away, Gwen looked towards the door and saw him, Peter turned away and ran for the front door. Harley looked back and went to the door, seeing Peter's car through the window, he silently cursed under his breath. He went outside and saw Peter standing still, he could see he was crying. "P- Peter, it's not what it looks like." He told him.
Peter turned to him, "Oh? So my own two eyes DIDN'T see you, my BOYFRIEND, KISS A RANDOM GIRL IN YOUR ROOM?!" He shouted.
Harley was speechless, he screwed up, "Peter please."
Peter held up his hand, "You haven't answered ANY of my calls, or read ANY of my texts. I was worried about you! Turns out, you were cheating on me."
Harley tried walking towards Peter, but Peter stepped back. "No. Don't come near me, I can't even look at you." And although Peter stayed for the entire weekend, tension filled the air, Harley knew it, Claire (Harley's little sister) knew it, and Lydia (Harley's mom) knew it. Peter barely spoke to Harley, and Harley barely spoke to Peter. And on Sunday when Peter had to head back to New York, Harley apologized for everything.
She's everything I'm insecure about. Peter wasn't too keen on trusting him again, Harley told him he cut off all contact with Gwen, and that it was a mistake. Peter forgave them and they tried to move on, evidently, it didn't work as Peter broke up with Harley. Yeah, today I drove through the suburbs. 'Cause how could I ever love someone else?
Peter loved Harley, he still loves him, but his heart had been broken too many times. He could only take so much all at once, Harley crossed the line, breaking the trust they had, and tried to rebuild. Peter saw the sign leading for New York, he was almost home, he was exhausted, he had no tears left to cry. All he wanted was to be at home, in his bed, and left alone. And I know we weren't perfect but I've never felt this way for no one.
Harley was seventeen when he met sixteen year old Peter, it was like love at first sight, they had so much in common, and liked spending time with each other. Everyone around them said they were perfect for each other, and that's what Peter thought too before his boyfriend started ignoring him for reasons he didn't know why. And I just can't imagine how you could be so okay now that I'm gone.
Meanwhile Harley felt like an idiot, as he should, because he broke the heart of the one person who cared for him like no one could. Of course he'd screw that up, and now he has to live with the pain, regret, selfishness, and anger he caused. 'Cause you said forever, now I drive alone past your street.
And all my friends are tired, of hearing how much I miss you, but I kinda feel sorry for them. 'Cause they'll never know you the way that I do, yeah. It was true whenever Peter and Harley said they knew each other better than anyone else. It was crazy when Peter thought back to the time where he believed that. Where he believed he and Harley would be forever, the time where he'd been the happiest he's ever been.

Today I drove through the suburbs
And pictured I was driving home to you. Peter had pictured the many nights he'd spend with Harley when they graduated high school and moved in together. That was always their plan, Peter felt like a fool, he opened his heart back up, he let Harley back in, only to end up with a broken heart.
He pictured them living in a two bedroom house, with a white picket fence, and a red SUV parked in the driveway. Though Harley would've tried persuading Peter to getting a different car, it obviously wouldn't work. He imagined the sunny glow peering through the curtains and waking up beside his lover. But every tiny detail made him think of Harley, and he desperately didn't want to.
Red lights, stop signs, I still see your face in the white cars, front yards. Everything reminded Peter of Harley, it sucked, it really sucked. He finally arrived in New York, but there was still a gap from the apartment. So driving through the Manhattan region, he passed the bookstore him and Harley would go to. Or the time they went on a date night to a local arcade, no matter where he turned, Harley was there.
Can't drive past the places we used to go to, 'Cause you know I still love you, babe. It was hard to see every place they'd gone to, he wished he could erase those memories, but unfortunately, he couldn't. That's when the tears streaming down his face were clouding his vision, why did this have to happen?
Sidewalks we crossed, I still hear your voice in the traffic, we're laughing. Did he do something wrong to cause Harley to cheat? Did he not pay attention? Was he being a terrible boyfriend? Nothing was making sense, all Peter knew was he was blaming himself for everything. He hated the fact that he might've done something to cause Harley to start whatever he did with Gwen. I know we weren't perfect but I've never felt this way for no one.
Peter never thought he'd love someone else like he did for Harley, yet here he is, pulling up to his apartment he shared with May, and walking into the building. Once he got to the right apartment he searched his bag and pockets for his house keys. But he couldn't find them, he must've left them in his car, but he felt too exhausted and lazy to go grab them.
So Peter being Peter he took out his phone typing May's name into the search bar and pressing the call button. After two attempts, May answered and heard the urgency in her nephew's voice. She ran to the door and opened it, seeing Peter, he looked awful, his hair was in disarray, his eyes were red and puffy, and he looked utterly broken.
She rushed him inside and began tending to him, not caring about the time, it was obvious Peter needed her. She sat him down on the sofa in their living room, and made him some hot cocoa to sip on. After she sat down next to him she spoke, "Peter, sweetie, what are you doing here so early? I thought you were coming home later in the day?" She questioned.
"H- Harley and I broke up, h- he cheated on me with a g- girl two months ago, I t- tried to forgive him. But I ended things, a- and it hurts so much M- May." Peter explained.
"Aw sweetheart." May pulled Peter into a hug as he cried, she couldn't believe Harley would do this to him. Peter was a kind boy, he didn't deserve to have his heart broken like that, or ever in fact. And because of exhaustion Peter ended up falling asleep in May's arms, before she was able to comment on the situation, either way, they'd talk later after Peter got some rest and was able to think clearly.
(I apologize for making an angsty chapter, don't worry! The next chapter will be happy lol. Hope you enjoyed this one shot. And you may meet a new character. 😏)
