Chapter 125: Adopted A Request by Warriorsfan56
Peter felt a wave of somber wash over him, he couldn't believe it, May was gone. She wasn't coming back, a small funeral was held only consisting of a few friends and family. Tony paid for the whole thing, setting up stuff that Peter needed help with, the kid has lost his parents, uncle, and now his aunt. He couldn't catch a break from anything, after the funeral Happy drove Peter and Tony back to the Avengers Compound.
Once they stepped into the building everyone expressed their sympathy to Peter, he was grateful for everyone being worried about him, but in all honesty, all he wanted to do at that very moment was go to his room and fall asleep.
So he didn't have to continue this walking nightmare, Tony told him he could get some rest before turning to the other adults, Steve, Natasha, Clint, Bruce, Pepper, Laura, and Rhodey were sitting around on the couch.
Everyone was at a loss, including Tony himself, he had no clue on what would happen to Peter after this. He knew he couldn't take care of the boy as he and Pepper were already first time parents to their daughter Morgan, and with the team pretty much living their own lives there wasn't much anyone could do. Tony sighed, before speaking. "I honestly don't know what to do, and that's a first." He said.
"What's going to happen with Peter?" Steve asked.
"I don't know, me and Pep can't take care of him because we're busy with Morgan. But at the same time, I don't want him being put in the foster care system." Tony admitted, he was scared for the teen, New York is his home, the one place he's been in for the sixteen years he's lived on earth.
"Wait, I have an idea but it's kind of outlandish so hear me out, what if Laura and I took Peter in? We're not that far from New York, he could still go to the same school in Midtown, and he wouldn't go into the system." Clint suggested.
"Clint we already have Cooper, Lila, and Nathaniel, do you really think we'd be able to have Peter with us and maintain everything else on top of that?" Laura asked her husband.
"Peter is sixteen honey, and we've known him for years, plus the kids would love to have him around, we'll talk to them first and see what they think. Then we'll see if Peter wants to stay with us." Clint and Laura both looked at Tony, wanting his opinion.
"As long as you guys talk it over, I'll try to stall CPS incase they show up. But you've probably got forty eight hours till they come here and try to take Peter away." Tony warned them, Clint and Laura nodded, once they got home from the compound they found their two oldest kids chilling on the sofa watching a movie.
"Hey guys we're back." Clint announced, Cooper turned his head and smiled.
"Hey mom, hey dad, we're watching a movie. Nate's in his room playing." He said.
"How's Peter? Is he okay?" Lila asked.
"He's hanging in there. Coop, could you bring Nate down here we need to have a family meeting." Laura answered, Cooper got up and left the room. Lila held a confused expression, "Are we in trouble or something?" She questioned.
"No sweetheart, we just need to ask you guys a question that may change our lives." Clint replied.
Cooper came back with Nate and they sat down on the sofa, wondering why their parents called a family meeting. "Hi Mama and hi Dad!" Nate greeted. The two adults smiled at their youngest. They were pretty nervous about how they were going to receive the news. They hope they'd be okay with Peter living with them, but parents can't read their kid's minds.
"What was it you wanted to talk to us about dad?" Cooper asked.
"We wanted to talk to you guys about something pretty important, you know how Peter lost his aunt?" Clint asked, examining each of his kid's faces.
"Yeah, Aunt May is in heaven now." Nate replied.
"Well, Peter doesn't have any relatives, and in forty eight hours he could possibly go into foster care and we may not see him again for a while." Laura told them.
"Are you asking us if it's okay if Peter lives with us?" Lila asked.
Clint and Laura nodded their heads and awaited for the kids to reply, and with big smiles on their faces. "Of course he can live with us! He's our friend Mom!" Cooper exclaimed.
Lila and Nathaniel nodded their heads vigorously, beyond excited about Peter being able to stay with them. Cooper would have someone his age to hang out with, Nate would have another older brother, and Lila would have someone to talk about being a superhero, they could both learn from each other, most of all Clint and Laura would be able to give a good kid a home after everything he's been through.

Soon Peter was able to live with the Barton clan and be around family, who could help him through this difficult time, unfortunately Peter wasn't opening up, he was reserved and quiet. Clint and Laura have tried talking to him, but nothing was working, so they decided to give him some space.
Lila was in her room sleeping when she heard someone talking, since she was a light sleeper she decided to see where the noise was coming from. Upon further inspection, the noise was coming from Peter's room he shared with Cooper, and saw that Peter was tossing and turning, mumbling in his sleep.
He was having a nightmare, Lila went to Cooper's bed and shook him awake. Pointing towards Peter, they both sprung into action and tried waking Peter up and after three attempts, he bolted upward, breathing heavily. Lila held his hand as she and Cooper whispered to him.
"It's okay Peter, you're okay." They kept repeating that until he finally calmed down. His breathing became normal and he looked at them, before talking in a quiet whisper. "I'm sorry." He said.
Cooper shook his head as he explained, "You don't need to apologize Peter, we understand, losing someone in your family is hard. But you aren't alone, you have me and Lila, and Nate, and mom and dad to help you."
"We're not going to abandon you." Lila said.
"But still, it's been three weeks and I'm still having the same nightmare, over and over again. I just want it to stop." Peter told them.
"Maybe if you talked about it and acknowledged it, it will go away, we'll listen as long as you want us to." Lila sat down next to him, and gave him a warm smile, Cooper put his hand on Peter's shoulder.
And once he began explaining what happened in his nightmare, his worries slipped away, along with his anxiety. Peter never had siblings before, so the fact that Lila and Cooper were willing to listen to him, made him feel like they were always going to help him.
He was beyond grateful for that, after he was done talking it was even later into the night, Cooper and Lila said their goodnight's and went back to sleep. And for the first time in a while, Peter finally got some sleep nightmare free.
