The first rays of dawn were already pointing over the BreezeClan camp. The evening of the fight against the badgers, the whole clan had watched over Hurricanefur, wishing him a safe journey among the stars. Only Butterflypaw did not participate. Besides, she hadn't left the healers' den at all.

“One of your back legs is broken, and you also lost an eye, only a scar remains” Dustpaw told her.

Butterflypaw didn't care about her appearance, the only thing that concerned her was her paw.
How could she become a warrior with only three legs? Must she follow the path of the medecine cats? What if she had to completely stop her apprenticeship?

“I hope it wasn't the vigil that made you seem like you were possessed or something!”

Butterflypaw jumped, then focused her gaze on the voice that had interrupted her thoughts. Mousepaw of course! The latter was always there to bring his back at the wrong time.

“What do you want from me this time?” She spat in his muzzle

“Wow, calm down,” Mousepaw meowed serenely, pretending that this sudden gesture had surprised him.
“Aren't you going to thank me? After all, I still saved your life.”

“You didn't save me at all,” Butterflypaw replied dryly. “And besides, you didn't do anything when the badger attacked me!”

“It’s not my fault,” the blamed  wanted to defend himself. “This looked so hilarious!”

“A badger who attacks, is that really hilarious ?” The one with the blue eyes grumbled. “Have you already forgotten that Hurricanepelt died because of them?”

This time, Mousepaw made no comment. He narrowed his eyes, his expression unreadable, impossible to know what he was thinking.

He still answered the following question from his clanmate
“You went to sit vigil too, right?”
“Oh what’s the point of doing it?”

Butterflypaw widened her eyes
“But he was your mentor!” she insisted

“And now he’s dead,” retorted the gray and white tom. “All I want now is to forget about him”

How could Mousepaw think such a thing?

“Were there any problems with him? You should have talked to my father about it, he is leader of the Clan after all”

“Agilestar is as useful as a kittypet, we don't even see him anymore, always talking to Brambleleaf and Reedleaf about I don't know what in his den.
And Margueritepaw, she-”

“What does this have to do with Margueritepaw?” Butterfly Cloud cut him off

“Haven't you noticed? She's never there. Even Cornflower claims that she is a lot behind on her training.”

“No, I didn't notice anything,” admitted the pale redhead

“That doesn't surprise me.”Mousepaw taunted her

“Hey !” Butterflypaw protested, slapping him on the ear.

The voice of Agilestar then resounded in the camp
“Let all who are old enough to hunt gather together to hear my words!”

Curious to know what her father might want to announce early in the morning, Butterflypaw tried as best she could to get up. To his greatest surprise, Mousepaw shouldered her

“You're being very helpful there,” she said to him in a voice full of mischief. What did you swallow?

“Oh nothing,” he simply replied

The two apprentices found a place in the front row between Windpetal and Redarrow. Dustpaw was right behind, next to Margueritepaw, who was licking her fur hard.
When silence reigned, Agilestar stood up to his full height
“My friends, this is something that Brambleleaf and I, have been hiding for too long.” Said the leader

Several murmurs of surprise ran through the crowd. The only ones to say nothing were Brambleleaf, Reedleaf and Dustpaw.

“Many moons ago when my kits were born, Brambleleaf received a prophecy.” Agilestar continued before giving the speech to the healer

The latter trembled in all her limbs when she declared
“The prophecy said that.. The butterfly will bring misfortune.. And dust... The miracle.. And that it was destined to save us..”

“But save us from what though?” Pantherclaw asked from the back row. “What does this prophecy mean?”

As Brambleleaf said nothing, it was Agilestar who responded.
“I know what that means,” he looked at Dustpaw.  “There is a hidden threat here, in our camp. And it’s Dustpaw who will save us”

He then looked at Butterflypaw severely.
“On the other paw, if she stays she will bring misfortune, as the prophecy says very clearly!”

Butterflypaw widened her eyes, shocked to hear her own father accuse her in front of the entire Clan.

“Dad...” She wanted to protest. But  Agilestar did not give her time

“Don't call me that anymore”

Butterflypaw was lost. Was it true? Was she going to bring harm to her clan?

“However, I could perhaps forgive you if you complete this task” the leader added

“Which ?” Butterflypaw who was now full of hopes wanted to know

“A kittypet has been hunting in our territory lately. So I want you to find him, and bring him here so we can settle his score”

“Got it !”

“And you won't go alone, Mousepaw will go with you.” Agilestar concluded
