Chapter 35

Femi's POV.

"Good morning dad! Morning mom!" I greeted as I walked into the dining room for breakfast.

"Morning dear" mom said with a smile.

"Morning my boy, how was your night?" Dad asked while I took a seat at the table.

"It's was good" I replied.

"And your nose?" Mom asked and I grinned, putting a piece of toast into my mouth.

"It's getting better. Don't worry" I said and she nodded her head and returned back to eating her food.

Shortly after, Damola finally came downstairs in the noisiest of all ways.

"Hey, hey, hey! How's my favorite set of humans doing? Morning fam!" He chirped and walked over to gave my parents a hug.

This guy is bent on stealing my parents! Because I'm leaving him nau!

"How are you?" Mom said to him and he did a spin and smiled.

"Can't you see how exquisitely handsome I'm looking? I'm doing fine, mom" he said to her while I just shook my head amusedly.

"Damola, you and your crazy ways. Grab a seat and put your behind on it" dad said and I laughed.

"Ah-ah! Guy, it's me oh. I'm not Femi" he said, pointing to me. "I'm Damola, your personal person oh" he said to dad and we all laughed.

"Guy, shut up now" I said, sipping my coffee.

"Me, I should shut up? A whole me! Are you guys hearing this goat?" He said and I rolled my eyes at him.

"You talk too much!" I said and he hissed.

"That's because I hate nonsense. I hate what I hate abeg" he grinned as he finally took a seat and ate with us. Few minutes later, Chioma finally came into the dinning room, dressed in ripped jean shorts and a black shirt with a diagram of a rose imprinted on it with black Pam slippers.

"Morning sir! Morning ma!" She greeted.

"Morning" they both responded with smiles on their faces.

"How was your night?" She asked and Chioma responded with a nod.

"It was fine" she smiled. She looked really happy today and I'm guessing that's probably because she's going back home today.

"Come and join us" dad said.

"Uh, no need. I'll eat in the guest room" she replied and dad responded with a nod.

"I'll send your breakfast to your room, okay?" Mom said and Chioma nodded her head in response and retreated back into her room.

"Dad, when are you guys going over to her house?" I asked the minute she left dinning room.

"We'll leave this morning, around ten o'clock or so" he replied, taking a sip of his coffee.

"I'm coming with" I said.

"You can't. You have to get to work, remember?" He replied and I shrugged in response.

"I don't really have much to do today. I'll just seek permission from the manager" I replied and dad heaved a sigh.

"Femi, you don't have to come along" mom finally spoke up.

"But I want to. Please?" I replied, giving her my very convincing smile and she rolled her eyes and sighed.

"It's only because you're a fine child. If not eh" she said and I laughed and so did dad.

"He's not the only fine one oh. You guys should keep deceiving the idiot. Now he thinks he's actually fine" Damola said and I couldn't help but laugh. I was finally happy that he wasn't saying anything but now he just did.

"Damola, you fa" dad chuckled and shook his head amusedly.

"But it's true na. You guys are giving him false hope, now he thinks he's a fine man. I just hate lies" he added and munched his toast and I smacked him playfully on the head.

"Fool!" I muttered and he laughed.

* * *

Chioma's POV.

The ride to my house was a really quiet one. Damola had already headed home but Femi came with, I'm not really bothered that he's here. Just as long as he's not here to ruin my mood cause as it is, I'm really nervous. I felt a rush of nostalgia run through my spine; that sick feeling you get from remembering something so hurtful. The events of that day kept replaying in my head and as I kept remembering that incident all I felt was anger and sadness. Slowly, I felt a hand on mine and turned to see Femi's hand on mine and a small smile glued to his face.

"It's okay. Everything will be fine" he said in a whisper, probably cause he didn't want his parents to hear him. I stared at him anf then at his hand which was still on mine and slowly pulled my hand away and looked away.

"And who said I was troubled? I'm fine" I said and he turned my face to meet his.

"You don't look like it. That's why I'm concerned" he smiled.

"Well I'm fine" I said, looking away.

Why is he trying to be nice?

"You know? You broke my nose yesterday and I'm finding it really hard to not feel like doing the same to you. Damola suggested that I break your nose too and at this point I'm beginning to think the same thing" he said with a smirk on my face. I looked flustered for a minute or two and then it turned into a scowl.

"You caused it. If you hadn't tickled me, you would've still had a straight nose. I did warn you but you didn't listen" I replied with a glare.

"Oh really? But that only means you're a violent person. A barbarian, cause no normal person would break someone else's nose cause they we're tickled" he said with a shrug.

"So you're saying I'm abnormal?" I asked with a glare.

"I didn't say that oh" he raised raised his hand up in the air in surrender. "You're the one that used your own mouth to say that. I only said it's not normal for someone to want to break a person's nose cause they were tickled" he added with a goofy grin on his face.

"You know what, Femi?" I asked with a smile.

"What?" He asked, also returning the smile.

"I'm not even sorry for breaking your nose. You deserve it and maybe I'll break your leg next" I said and he chuckled.

"Because I let you hurt me, you think you can do it again?" He scoffed. "I just don't hit girls and that's your luck, else..." He added and I rolled my eyes at him for the umpteenth time today.

"I just don't hit girls" I mimicked in a high pitched voice.

"I don't sound like that" he protested.

"Yes you do. Have you met yourself? I struggle to accommodate your really irritating voice" I said and he laughed, but not too loudly.

"This fine voice of mine?" He whispered into my ears. "You're not serious, every girl I've met always trips for my voice" he whispered into my ears once again and I shoved him aside.

"I'm not one of your fan girls, Femi. I keep saying it but it never gets into that block head of yours" I replied and he chuckled.

"Chioma, I have tire for you. At least say something nice about me for once in your life. Just one thing, will you die?" he whined.

"Same goes for you" was my simple reply.

"Fine. I'll say five things that are nice about you and you'll do the same. Deal?" He said but I didn't respond. Giving him my silence and ignorance as an answer instead.

"Deal" he responded on my behalf. "Ehe! Five good things about Chioma Aniobi. Number one, you're a fine girl. Number two, em, you're a smart girl. Number three, you're funny in your own way. Number four, you value friendships and you love your family a lot__"

"Who doesn't?" I cut him off with an eye roll.

"Let me finish nau before you start attacking me. It's my own observation" he said.

"Fine, go ahead" I replied.

"And number five..." He turned to look at me with a smile. "You're an interesting person. You're sassy, rude, proud, arrogant__"

"You said nice things oh! How is that a nice thing to say?" I interrupted once again and he heaved a sigh.

"Jesus give me strength!" He muttered. "You're a nut case, do you know that? Girl, lemme finish na. Ah-ah!" He said and I shrugged.

"Whatever!" I muttered.

"As I was saying." He said. "But in all that, you're a really interesting person once you're fully understood. It's hard to understand you though, I must be honest. But, it's a process, step by step" he said with a smile at the end and I just shrugged.

"Hmm...that's partially true" I said.

"It's very true and very accurate" he said with a smile. "Now, your turn" he added.

"No way! I didn't agree to that and__"

"We're here! Now you two can stop flirting with each other" Mr Omashola said as he drove into the lot and parked the car. I hadn't even noticed how lost we were in our bickering.

"We weren't flirting, dad. Just talking" Femi replied as he got down from the car.

I took a minute to stare at what use to be my home, a place I was shamefully kicked out. Ugh! That day was the worse day ever and although it was only yesterday, I feel like I can never ever forget that event. Each time I think about it, I feel like screaming at the top of my lungs or crying my heart out or just drown myself in self-pity.

The car door finally came open, snapping me out of my thoughts, and I saw Femi standing next to it with a smile.

"Come down, or you want me to carry you like last time?" He said, putting on a smirk. I smiled back, a sickly sweet and fake smile, and then followed the other door at my right and got down, leaving him standing there with his mouth open.

"How mature, Chioma. I even opened the door for you" he said with a goofy grin on his face. I ignored him as I walked to the entrance, and stood behind Femi's parents as Mr Omashola rang the doorbell. It took a while before Funke, one of the maids, opened the door.

"Good morning sir! Good morning ma!" She greeted Femi's parents. "Good morning Miss chioma, good morning sir" she said to Femi and I. She looked really surprised to see me and I'm sure she was hoping I'd never return to this house but I did.

"Morning" they individually replied, but I didn't.

"Yes, please we'd like to seeΒ  Mr and Mrs Aniobi, are they in?" Mr Omashola said.

"Yes they are, please come in" she said, stepping aside to allow us in.

Never knew I'd ever need permission to get into my own house! How pathetic is this?!

"Thanks" Femi said as we all walked into the house and sat down.

"I'll let them know you guys are here to see them" she said and went upstairs to call them.

I was so nervous that I didn't know how to feel about any of this anymore. When I see my parents again, how they'll react and what their decision might be. I can't really pinpoint exactly how I feel about this.

I felt a hand slowly reach for mine and I knew immediately that it was Femi's. I turned to look at him and I'm sure he could see the worry in my eyes. He smiled at me and I tried pulling my hand away from his but this time he didn't let me. He held on tighter than before but not too tight and gave me one of his really captivating smile. Yhe kind that'll make you feel like smiling too. The kind that was so bewitching.

"Relax" he told me and I heaved a sigh.

"I am relaxed. Don't worry about me" and with that I pulled my hand away and heaved yet another sigh, my mind racing through all the possibilities of returning back home.

"Chioma?" That voice was all too familiar, I missed that voice so much and definitely couldn't forget it. It was Amara's, a broad smile stretched across her face as she stared at me with a certain glimmer in her eyes. She immediately ran towards me and engulfed me in a bone crushing hug.

"I missed you so so much!" She said, still hugging me.
