𝐱. a deb & her escort
TEDDY WALTZED in her room, practicing so she didn't embarrass herself. She seemed to always do that. She always seemed to do stupid things that lead to something worse. Like last night.
Teddy twisted her ankle, falling down onto the ground, and punching the hardwood floor. Her dad poked his head through the door, looking at the girl in confusion.
Seeing her like this reminded him of her mother. Her couldn't have her sad and angry. He wanted his precious girl happy like she always was. He knew the cause, tilting his head at her.
"Come on, get up." He said, walking into her room. Teddy sighed, taking his hand as he held her hand in his, beginning the waltz. "What's on your mind?"
"Nothing, Dad." Sam rolled his eyes, "Don't give me that B-S. Tell me the truth." Teddy shook her head, taking a deep breathe. "I realized I was to late. My feelings for— he is in love with Belly and I see that now. And I can't have him but, he is the only person that makes me feel like myself every single summer. Every day."
Sam stopped dancing, pulling her cold body into his, "He loves you so much, T. You don't see it, but I do. As your father, I know. I wouldn't be standing her right now if I didn't think Jeremiah wasn't the one for you. You love him?" He asked, now pulling back as he looked at her.
Teddy couldn't even think straight. Her mind was like a flash. Everything she had ever thought of Jeremiah was ten times deeper then before. Tears weld up in her eyes as she nodded, "Yes. I love him."
Sam let go of his daughter completely, now smiling and pointing a playful finger in her face, "Go get your man back, or it'll be me and you in that ring, understand?" Teddy let out a chuckle, nodding as she hugged him once again. "Thanks, dad."
Sam nodded, "I'll leave you to it. When am I meeting, Jai?" Teddy scrunched her face, "It's Kai- Dad, get out!" She rushed him out with a laugh, shutting the door behind her.
Kai Blake was so nervous he could barely think. Even though he had been an escort before, it was with Teddy, I mean seriously? He remembered past summers before he would stare and stare at her. His friends thought he was so weird because he would never speak. But, he didn't care. He just wanted to look at her.
Jeremiah couldn't even breathe in this moment. Jeremiah couldn't take not being able to not hold her. Tell her that she was the only one on his mind, that she was his mind. She lived there rent free for so long and she had no idea. He had spent so long pushing his feelings down, he tried to make it a reality. But, once it rose back up to the surface, it was like a punch in the gut.
So, as he walked back hand in hand with his date, Teddy was only staring away from them and he was only staring at her. "I'll be back," he said to Belly, following far behind her outside.
"You guys are cute." Teddy knew it was him, not turning to look at him. "Not as cute as you and Kai."
Teddy gave him a sarcastic laugh, turning around to the boy. "What do you want?" Her voice was calm and quiet, but so harsh. He looked down at the floor and back to her.
"I just," he stuttered, "Wanted to say good luck."
But, that's not what he wanted to say at all. He wanted to tell her how much he loved her. How perfect she was. That he only wanted her happy with him. But he didn't. He wanted to kiss her and never let go.
Teddy scoffed, "Fuck off."
He watched her walk away, her dad and Trey not following far behind her. "Hey, man." Trey greeted quickly, holding the girls dress and his suit over his shoulder.
Teddy hadn't been more aggravated. She was so angry with him. If only he would be honest about how he felt, she wouldn't be feeling like this— so conflicted.
Kai was walking out to meet her at the door and he noticed the shooken look that was written on her face, but his attention switched to her father. "Kai Blake, nice to meet you."
Sam didn't say anything just analyzing him before his daughter roughly kicked his ankle, "Sam. You can waltz?"
"Yes, sir." Sam nodded, walking away with Trey, who looked him up and down.
Kai took a step closer to Teddy, pulling her into a hug. It was long and safe. Safe enough that her thoughts of Jeremiah only worsened.
"You looked like you needed that." Teddy nodded, "I'm fine." Kai did the same, letting her walk away.
Belly was not fine. She needed her sister. Who she had betrayed. And when she saw her walk into the dressing room it was like her eyes went dark, staring at Nicole.
Nicole noticed the girl walking towards her harshly, but Belly only stood up, placing a hand on her arms. "Please, sit?"
Teddy's eyes softened for a moment before landing back on Nicole, "If you had a problem, you should've said something. Don't ever embarrass my friends like that again."
Nicole was silent. She knew she was wrong. But she did it anyway.
Moments of silence passed between Belly and Teddy as they sat awkwardly next to each other at their seats. Teddy straighted her hair as Belly watched her ironed curls bounce back up. "Im sorry. Teddy, I had no idea you still liked him. You know, I would never hurt you like that if I knew, okay?"
Teddy sighed, placing her flat iron down, "Belly, it's fine. I'm not gonna hate you over a boy. Im just disappointed is all." She sighed, trying to force a tight lipped grin. Belly nodded, grabbing her hand, "I love you."
"I love you to, Bells." Her heart raced with those words, pulling her body in hers. "Don't think about me. Enjoy your night, it's not about me. Maybe I'll find something with Kai, he's all yours." Belly nodded, letting go as she walked away.
She could not fathom that the boy she loved was with the girl she thought would never like him. "He's my friend" Belly would say. I guess it wasn't her fault right? Maybe it was Teddy's. Maybe she was confused.
Her thoughts crowded her mind and the makeup sponge dabbed against her skin whilst she felt a hand rest on her shoulders. "You look beautiful."
"Su, what are you doing back here?" Teddy turned around smiling. "I had to come see my beautiful girls." Susannah was mesmerized. Her ironed curls and her bright makeup made her heart feel as if it was jumping. She couldn't handle it.
Susannah's eyes laid on the jewelry box she gifted her, smiling as she opened it. "You are gonna be a star out there. I know it." Teddy nodded, her smile big as ever, and it was all because of her.
"Thanks, Su. I'll see you out there?" Teddy asked, "Yes," a kiss was placed on her cheek and the door shut slowly. She was the only one in the room and she couldn't stop staring at her dress. She was unrecognizable.
The announcements made on the speaker brought panic to her body, rushing to the main hallway. She nervously fixed herself up, fluffing her dress until they called the person infront of her name. Jeremiah and Belly.
They looked so good together. It scared her. But, she shook it off. It felt like a weight lifted off her body when she saw Kai standing there infront of her.
Kai watched her fix herself, obviously panicking. But, he wasn't nervous at all anymore. He couldn't be when she was looking so perfect. When she locked eyes with him, his heart skipped two beats. Teddy gave a small wave, making him smile wider, turning his head away.
"Teddy Kreese, daughter of Sam Fallon. She is a student at CareyVill High and is a varsity cheerleader. She is also a track star." At the announcement Teddy immediately grabbed Kai's arm, her whole body shaking at this point. "You are so gorgeous."
"Shut up." Teddy demanded, making him smile. She tilted her head for the camera, giving a wide smile.
Trey watched from a far, watching his twin walk down the carpet. He looked at Jeremiah who was staring at the ground. He hadn't talked to either of them, but he needed to get to the bottom of it.
He hated seeing them like this. So, down. Especially his own sister.
Teddy gave a small wave to Belly who smiled, giving her a thumbs up. Her eyes locked with Jeremiah and she looked away angrily, taking a deep breathe.
But, her heart stopped as she saw her father follow Laurel out of the room.
