Chapter 01
Really though, you'd expect that a daughter of a rich family has everything easy.
Well, life's not that simple.
Or so Keiko had realized.
" You're technically and an adult right? So how about having serious goals in mind? " Her father had commented.
" Really though, what does he mean by serious?!" Keiko slammed her fist on the table , startling some customers in the cafe who were sitting nearby. " I would if I knew, what exactly is serious supposed to be? Boring salarymen ? "
" Keiko chan... your drink- " her best friend, Nakamura pointed at her boba cup.
It was floating above the table - the contents were floating in the air as if there were no gravitational force allowing them to fall. Keiko quickly grabbed the cup and tried to put the drink back inside too. But a good part of it splashed on her jacket.
" Oug... darn it! " She swore. " This... shitty...
" Ha ha ha, Kei chan you are usually very gentle but when you get frustrated you talk like a delinquent," Nakamura was used to this, so she calmly handed her a napkin.
The blonde then waved at the waiter and ordered refills for both of them, then she continued - "You know it'd be easier if you tried using your powers in the first place, instead of getting yourself troubles through it."
" Don't you know already? I can't completely use my powers at will... and I'm afraid that it will only cause more trouble if I try."
She sighed.
"So you don't want to get a job now? " Nakamura took another sip.
" No! I just... I haven't decided yet... man, I'm already 24..."
"Hmm, I guess I could tell you'd struggle. You were never very interested to do anything, you've never had a stable part-time job either if I remember right? "
" ... I had tried out a bunch...library assistant, co-editor of newspaper, front Clark... none of them lasted more than a week! My longest I used to tutored a kid while I was freshman in college . My parent's were against me having a part time job as they mention I had no need for money," She clicked her tongue." Now they are desperate to see me do something."
" But you have academic skills. You were quite good in Uni. In fact professor was a bit sad when you told him that you don't want to continue studying for a higher degree."
" That's the thing- " Keiko pulled her hair back and tied it in a ponytail. " I was never quite interested in literature either. I just rebelled against my father by not taking economics. "
" How about modeling with me? "
" Eh?"
" You are quite pretty too, seeing you tie your hair up, it came in my mind,."
" No way! I'm not nearly as pretty as you Naka chan."
Nakamura Hajime was the school idol, college star and university queen. With her blonde hair, blue eyes and fragile figure, she was often mistaken as a celebrity. Compared to her Keiko looked no more than a random girl.
But it never bothered her. She liked her magenta brown hair and wasn't insecure about her body feature. Actually she hated the idea of being a poster girl, but she never said it so Nakamura doesn't get hurt. Looking attractive was least of her worries...
" I've bought the copy of the magazine where you were featured. There's no way I can compete with you . " She laughed.
" Well, you have other skills too. Skills only you posses. I'm still suggesting- learn to use your psychic powers. " She pointed at her coffee spilled jacket.
" But I can't control it! And even if I could, what would I use my powers for? "
" I said Learn to use . And I'm sure you'd get plenty of things done . After all these powers are special right? "
" If it was that easy...
*******
Keiko Mitsuba, Age 24.
Graduated from Lime Squash University with a bachelors degree in Literature.
Career selection Pogress: 0%
Keiko was always viewed as a child who was never quite the fitting model of the Mitsuba family. She was the middle child; with no fixed ambition, no talent.
And on top of that she had supernatural powers that she was unable to control.
Most of the times her powers were causing not so harmless blunders. Like - causing poltergeist activities when she had a bad dream, or spilling food on guests who'd offend her. They were never intentional.
One time though, her powers went a bit beyond that.
Since then she had been very careful with her powers, suppressing feelings if they were to go to extreme.
That's why, not many people knew about her psychic powers. Only her family and a few close friends.
Her family saw it as a burden for her, so they were afraid of her future.
She wasn't as potential to inherit the family business title, unlike her older brother.
Her Younger sister was an all rounder prodigy-both in academic and sports .
" What am I doing with my life? " she asked herself, standing in front of the mirror.
" It's not like I'm lazy... I want to do something. But Nothing interests me."
" Is there something I even want to do? "
" Monologue drama in the bathroom again? " Her older brother asks from outside.
" You're listening?!"
" Yup. You've been at it since your graduation. Come out, lets talk."
" What is it Daisuke? " She opened the door to meet the smile of her brother.
" How about I give you a job? Hear me out first before rejecting."
"This better not be some lame janitor duties or office fairy offer."
" How rude, you should respect all kinds of jobs, " He snickered.
" Why are you all smug today? "Keiko raised an eyebrow.
" I know you don't want just any jobs. If that were it you'd have started doing something already."
" Spit it out already, or do you want me to throw a cup at you? " She lifted up an empty paper cup lying on the table. " I've been practicing moving small stuffs for years and believe me, I won't miss."
" Woah, chill with the hostility." Daisuke laughed, but he did take a step back.
Keiko noticed- and instantly dropped the cup.
" Sorry... I didn't mean to-
" It's alright! Why are you getting down? Are you still afraid that you might hurt me again?"
His voice got serious-" I told you not to stress over the past anymore."
" I'm not, anyway- what is the job? "
He grinned again-
"Remember that time you wrote in your middle school graduation essay?
That you want to be a psychic researcher? "
" That was years ago, I wasn't all that serious!!" She blushed a little. "Even if I could , wouldn't want to use my powers."
" But you are still interested right? How you have these powers? And how you can control it?"
"Enough with my powers already!" She raised her voice. " Why are you suddenly approaching me with all these nonsense?"
" Because I want to help. I want my sister to live freely with her specialty and I want to see her doing something she enjoys." He said in a determined manner.
"Daisuke...
" Listen, you know about Seasoning city right? Since you've been keeping tabs on supernatural events happening around."
" The one with recent outbreaks of bizarre paranormal event?" She was surprised. " I mean- yes, I do keep an eye out for these type of news... but most of them are just bogus scams right?"
" Well... I've been to our office branch there... and I've seen some stuffs. I assure you there are really a few people there, they have psychic powers similar to yours. They wanted an extra reporter so I signed up your name. You were in the journalist club in Highschool right?"
" But my major wasn't-
" It's a small post of an assistant- any bachelors Degree is enough. They will take an interview of course. Use this chance Keiko, go out. Meet people and wash off that mud from your eyes. If you don't take initiatives, life won't give you what you want. "
"One problem Daisuke... I don't know what I want," Keiko sighed. "But I'll take your offer, I want to do something about this stupid power of mine."
