Cowardice lay bleeding and pale on the ground. She'd been badly injured, right under where a human heart would be, and everyone knows she wouldn't last.

Not even with Kindness' healing.

The ones that are most distraught are those who knew her; Envy panicking the most.

Ironically, Cowardice looked resigned and calm. She tries her best to stop Envy and Mischievous (and Rion's and Love's) fussing, knowing she's dying anyway.

Finally, Envy stops moving.

Completely.

Which wasn't Cowardice's goal, but at least it stops Envy from attempting to patch her up.

But, minutes passed and Cowardice is getting more and more concerned.

Until finally Cowardice reached out to him and said softly, "Sing me the lullaby you used to sing."

Envy knew what she meant-there was a common lullaby in the era of World War II. He-or, rather, Vidi, his human form-used to sing it for Violetta.

And so, he sang.

"They told us there is a place
Where the sun eternally shines on clear skies
They told us there is a place
Where there are no more lies," Envy sang tentatively, trying to make sure his voice doesn't crack.

"They told us there is a place
Where everything is calm and peaceful
They told us there is a place
Where everyone lives as equals,"

"They told us there is a place
Where blood don't stain the ground
They told us there is a place
Where you can safely lie down,"

Cowardice relaxed upon hearing the last stanza, even though she knew there was another stanza.

Vidi and Envy always kept it a secret from her.

She thought she would never know the last stanza when Envy continued, trying his best to sound clear through his tears. Some droplets fell to Cowardice's arm, but she didn't mind.

"And now you're close to that place
To the paradise in our dreams
And now you're close to that place
Where the golden gate shines sun beams
Upon your face."

Cowardice smiled as Envy ended the song.

"Thank you," she whispered, lifting her hand one last time to caress her elder brother's cheek before closing her eyes and letting her hand fall.
