Chapter 18: Jeon's Responsibility

♛┈⛧┈┈•༶

The fancy and sophisticated conference hall was pulsed with activity. The soft hum of the piano's melody, the chatter of people holding onto both important and random conversations filled the air, along with the delicious scent of the variety of delicacies. Each and every person was so engrossed in their own world that rarely anybody noticed an enraged Jungkook, who was dragging Y/N with himself.

It all happened so suddenly. One moment she was enjoying her time getting to know her new friend and the next moment, he appeared out of nowhere and now there he was — gripping her wrist so tightly and dragging her with him as if she had committed some serious crime and he was a cop, doing his job.

"Ah-" Y/N gasped, his grip on her wrist too tight, "Hey... Jungkook-" she tried calling him out, trying to loosen his grip.

But he didn't budge an inch. He didn't let her speak, rather pushed her forward, towards the car. "Get in," he whispered with a deadly glare, his voice gruff as he gestured her with his hand. She didn't hesitate and immediately followed his command, though she was trembling out of fear. She felt like she was being kidnapped.

The car ride was eerie silent and none of them exchanged even a single word. Jungkook glanced at her from time to time, his anger soaring by each second. He could feel himself burning from inside. He had to know the truth. He must know! He was sure he was not mistaken of the man he had seen earlier — Namjoon. He clearly remembered him. He was a wolf, a part of the clan Jungkook had spent his childhood with.

Did she know him already? If so, how? How does she know him? It's highly possible that she's a wolf too, something I have been doubting since the day I found out about her peculiar powers — mind-reading.

Y/N stumbled as Jungkook yanked her out of the car and dragged her into the hallway of the luxurious hotel. Her heels clicked onto the sloppy marble floor, her grip on his arm tight to retain her balance. She tried to meet his gaze, to understand what was even wrong with him, but no. He wouldn't pay her a glance.

They abruptly stopped in front of a door, the click of the keycard echoing through the hallway. But Y/N's breath got caught in her throat as she realised.

It wasn't her hotel room. It was his.

Panic started rising inside her. What- What's wrong with him?! What will he do to me?! She struggled against his grip, trying to free herself, "Hey-" she smacked his wrist, "Let me go, you freak-"

But her heart leaped into her throat, her eyes widened with fear as he pinned her to the wall, staring dangerously into her soul.

Y/N trembled as his hands roamed around her waist, his eyes grew crimson as he stared at her coldly. Her eyes drifted to his lips and she sucked in a deep breath at the sight of his outgrown fangs.

Oh no no no!!! She mentally screamed. Will he bite me now?!

He leaned in closer and for a second she wasn’t sure if it was anger or desperation burning in his gaze. She leaned her head away, trying to keep her neck as far as possible from him. But she let out a sharp gasp when he pulled her closer.

"Who is he?" he growled, his voice low and dangerously.

Y/N gulped as she spoke, her voice shaky, "K-Kim Namjoon... My new friend..."

Jungkook smirked, "New friend? Or old acquiantance? Huh?"

Her eyes widened, "What?! No! He just came over to give me company because I was alone and he was Korean too-"

"Shut up! ," he cut her off harshly, his voice deep, "Tell. Me. The. Truth."

She glared at him, feeling a surge of anger. She was confused what he was even referring to. "I don't get it what you-"

Her breath stopped when he leaned closer to her neck, whispering roughly, "Don't lie, babygirl...," his hot breath fanning over her neck made her shudder.

"Jungkook-" she gasped, trying to push him away, "What are you-"

But he just sniffled, inhaling her scent. He let out a deep hum, "Gosh... You smell good, you know?"

Y/N was trembling with fear now, at his actions. He licked her neck, smirking, "I have never bitten a human...," he murmured, kissing her neck.

"Stop!" she bit her lower lip, terrified now. She was trembling hard. She felt something sharp on her neck. FANGS!!

"Ahhh!!!"

She gathered all her courage and pushed him away harshly, making him stagger a few steps back. Jungkook was shocked himself. His eyes were brown again, as he stared at her, bewildered and shaken.

"What was that?!" Y/N yelled, glaring, "Are you nuts?!"

Jungkook himself was confused. He looked away, embarrassed, "I-"

"Bastard...," Y/N rolled his eyes, pissed off, and stormed out of his room.

Jungkook swallowed hard and kept his eyes down, shame of his actions clawing at his skin.

Darn it, Jeon.

Two days passed in a blur.

Jungkook and Y/N's return to Seoul was silent. Neither of them interacted much with each other. The tension between them remained thick — words unsaid by both lingered in the silence. Neither did Jungkook demand her for answers again, nor did Y/N question him for his odd behavior that night.

Soon after reaching home, Y/N received a news that made her blood run cold. Her grandmother had fallen sick, almost on her death bed. Her mother had to urgently leave for her village in Daegu, to look after her grandmother. Y/N was sad — both because her dearest grandmother was about to leave the world, and also because she had to live almost a month or two alone — but nonetheless, she agreed.

The house felt colder than usual and much quieter. Empty like a void. Y/N was left alone and she dearly missed her bubbly and cheerful mother.

She spent the daytime working in her office, and the night time... Bored alone. She'd call her best friend, Yeonjun, and would often hang out with him.

But despite of that, something bothered her. She'd constantly think about Jungkook and it made her upset.

Oh! That Jeonshit vampire is my boyfriend!! Shouldn't he be a wee bit caring?! All he acts is like a damn CEO all the time! I mean- yes! He's my CEO. But... He's my boyfriend too! Shouldn't he be a bit nicer?

"You three-" Jungkook pointed at Yoongi, Taehyung and Y/N with his pen, "Reach the conference hall by the scheduled time tomorrow. Don't dare to be even a second late," he warned them coldly.

All three of them nodded and muttered, "I understand, Mr. Jeon."

Y/N rolled her eyes silently, but that didn't go unnoticed by Jungkook, who stared at her sharply.

Rude ass.

The day of the important meeting arrived — one that Jungkook warned his employees strictly about. The entire executive team was gathered, waiting in the huge conference room.

Jungkook huffed sharply, checking his wrist watch impatiently. Everyone was present there, except one person.

Choi Y/N.

The clock ticked past the scheduled time. Jungkook’s jaw clenched tighter with each passing minute. The meeting had already begun, with employees presenting their ideas. But still, there was no sign of Y/N.

Jungkook tapped his phone screen furiously, calling her more than a dozen times. Voicemail.

Voicemail, again.

The meeting ended an hour later and yet, no sign of Y/N. Jungkook was close to throwing his phone out of the window. It didn't matter how brilliant she was — irresponsibility was unacceptable.

"Lol, a brat is gonna get fired, I guess," Yoongi muttered under his breath, observing Jungkook's cold expression and smirked.

Jungkook tossed his phone harshly over his desk, frustrated. How dare she miss it?!

Surprisingly, his phone started buzzing.

Incoming Call: Y/N

He rolled his eyes and picked up his phone. He swiped instantly to answer.

"Where the hell have you been?!" he snapped harshly, "Do you realize what you’ve done? I called you more than a dozen times and you dared to ignore?! Huh?!" his voice rose.

"I know...," Y/N sighed, her voice weak and breathless. "I'm sorry..."

"Sorry?!" he laughed bitterly, "You think any CEO would accept an important employee to be late to an important meet-"

"I had an accident...," Y/N's voice interrupted him.

Jungkook froze. Accident? "What?" he asked, his voice a bit worried and also, frustrated.

"I was crossing the road and...," she sighed, "A speeding bike crashed onto me."

Jungkook didn’t speak for a moment. The anger drained a bit. But he was still frustrated. "While crossing the road?!" he huffed, "What are you? A child?"

"It was the biker's fault!" she huffed, "I was crossing at the right signal!"

He let out a sharp breath, running his hand through his hair. Should I go see her? He questioned himself. Maybe... Yes?

“Fine fine," he sighed, "Send me the address," he stopped for a second, "I'll be coming over."

"She's lucky," the doctor said, adjusting his glasses as he read thoroughly through the reports, "No major or internal injuries, but her left hand is fractured," he glanced at me and then at Jungkook.

Jungkook nodded at the doctor's words, giving Y/N a side glare. Irresponsible bitch.

She rolled her eyes. Rude ass.

The doctor observed their silent interaction. He cleared his throat, with a motive to seek their attention,"She’ll need to rest for a few weeks and avoid moving that arm," he stated.

Jungkook nodded stiffly, his eyes flickering to Y/N, who sat with her arm in a sling  looking smaller and fragile.

Great job, Choi. He huffed mentally.

»»————>

The car ride was silent. Eerie silent. Jungkook, who was usually cold, looked even more frustrated. His grip on the steering wheel was tight as he drove through the lanes.

Y/N sighed and cleared her throat. She had to tell him that she was alone. That she had no one to look after her. But... would he care?

Nonetheless, she just spat it out, "I live alone..."

Jungkook said nothing. Nothing at all. He just gave her a side eye, a judgmental look. "Your mom? Where's she?" he asked coldly.

Y/N sighed and looked down, "To her home village in Daegu... My grandma's sick..."

He just shrugged and replied nonchalantly, "Okay."

She stared at him with a bewildered expression. Okay? Just okay?! Her eyebrows furrowed, making her forehead crease, as she asked, "Just okay? I'm telling you that I'm alone... and you're okay with that?!"

"So?" he glanced at her for a mere second before setting his gaze on the road again, "What do you expect me to do?"

"For God's sake!" she rolled her eyes, "Can you even see my arm in a sling?! How am I supposed to do everything with just one arm?!" she exclaimed.

"Do I look like the guy who cares?" he smirked, "Hell no."

"Do you realize that me not being able to work properly will affect your office as well?" she smirked. She had played the UNO reverse card this time. Because Jungkook's expression faltered a bit as the realisation dawned on him.

She fumbled with her fingers as she spoke, "Don't you think... after her family, it's the boyfriend's responsibility to look after his girl?"

Holy shi- Jungkook widened his eyes. Something in her words struck him hard. Responsibility... It was a sore spot in Jungkook. He had had a trauma associated with it. A trauma that still haunted him, even though he tried his best to not think about his past.

No... I can't let that repeat again... I can't let the guilt eat me up again...

"Fine...," Jungkook said, his voice low, barely above a whisper, "What do you want me to do?" he huffed.

"Take me to your place."

Ah… finally... After three long months!!

It’s been a tough journey for me, especially over the past few weeks. There were moments when I almost gave up on writing... But something about that idea just didn’t seem right. I reminded myself why I started writing in the first place. Writing is my passion and I write because I love to do so. It's a part of who I am. Leaving this story incomplete felt like betraying a piece of myself, felt like committing a crime!

That’s why I’m here again, continuing this story again.

I want to give a special shoutout to one of my closest friends, shinhaari who stood by me through my writer's block and my personal struggles. Her support meant the world to me. Without her encouragement, I probably wouldn’t have returned to this story so soon (though I know it's not 'so soon'). Since Wattpad doesn’t let me dedicate chapters directly, I want to do it here...

This chapter is for you, Haari! Thank you from the bottom of my heart!

Thank you all for reading — and for your precious patience.

Stay tuned! 💜
