Eliza's never been this sick. She's never been throwing up for a constant of days, right in the morning too. It doesn't matter if she's at work, or if she's at home, or if she's at Marks. She throws up, feels much better and then goes on with her day.

She's a doctor, she should have noticed the signs before. The headache that comes and goes before bed, the craving for foods she doesn't like ( pickles ) and her missed period.

But she thought for the first bit it was normal — she knows that her period would most likely change after the shooting due to the stress, and the headaches were probably from the same cause. It's what she told herself.

She couldn't understand why she wanted pickles though. She's never liked pickles because they once made her sick as a kid, she had vowed not to eat them again. That was until she craved them so bad, she walked across to Joes bar just to get a pickle because the hospital food court didn't have any.

Pregnancy wasn't on her mind. Not even a single thought. It never crossed her mind until she spotted the pregnancy test on the shelf in the clinic.

Her heart skipped a few beats, and she slightly froze when she thought about it. She's late, she's tired and has headaches, she has morning sickness or spells of vomiting, and she's always wanting pickles.

Her hand reaches out and as quick as she can, she grabs a pregnancy test and slips it into her white coat pocket. And she hopes, that maybe, this is just a dream she'll wake up from.

Eliza's on her big brothers service today. She's got her med student, Grace Tiana, following behind her as she review the case. And her pocket that holds a pregnancy test feels like a hundred times heavier than it actually is.

"Is the surgeon nice? Is he good?" The patients mother asks, a small look of fear in her eyes. She doesn't what her son to die, she wants the best surgeon she can get, and she wants one that's kind and sweet too.

Eliza smiled as she shifted on her feet, the med student looking up from the chart when she starts to talk. "He's one of the best here, miss. And he's very kind, he'll make sure you son smiles."

The med student continued to read with a small smile, they liked how well Eliza talked to the patients mother.

The mother of the patients smiled, "Good. Good."

"Do you have any questions, any concerns?" Eliza asked as she made her smile look so warm and friendly.

"What uh, can go wrong? I know you've told me before, but can you tell me again." The mother asked as she moved her hand so she could hold her sons hand. Her eyes looked watery, and her lips were pressed into a small sad frown.

Eliza looked towards the med student. She's supposed to be a teacher today, and so she decides that Grace can answer if she feels ready. "You can answer if you'd like."

Grace nods her head and steps forward so she's not behind Eliza anymore. "During surgery, your son could bleed out or develop a clot. It's possible that the lungs will be damaged once we see them, or that the cancer has spread. Even though the survival rates are high, and the fact that Doctor Lee-Sunny is a successful surgeon, things can still go wrong." Grace looked towards Eliza as if she was silently asking if she was right with what she was saying, when Eliza nodded back, Grace continued. "After the surgery, your son will be connected to a breathing tube and tubes to remove fluid from his chest. He'll have to take medications to help his body accept the transplant. He can still reject the lungs, and if that happens, he'll be out right back on the list if alternate methods don't work."

The mother sniffled and nodded. "Thank you."

Grace nodded back. "Of course."

Eliza smiled at the med student before she turned and handed the mother a pack of tissues. "Ask a nurse to get ahold of us if you have any more questions or concerns."

The lung transplant for the little boy with lung cancer went well. There were no complaints, and he should make a smooth recovery. The med student, Grace, had been tasked with holding a retractor and she couldn't have been happier.

The day was almost over. Eliza was sitting in the residents lounge after wishing Grace a goodnight and good luck on her upcoming years of medicine. There was chit chat back and forth before Richard Webber came in.

He started off by telling the group how the med students had written reports on the residents. They said how well of teachers they were, things that weren't good and things that were.

Alex Karev and Eliza Lee-Sunny were the only two that had managed to be great teachers and make good impressions on the med students. Alex invited her for drinks in celebration.

That's how Eliza ended up at the bar with a glass of lemon water, well Alex held a beer in hand.

"You aren't drinking." Alex pointed out when he finally noticed that she wasn't holding a beer like him, or holding a shot glass full of tequila. "It's on me, you know."

"I think I'm pregnant." Eliza blurted as she looked towards Alex. She's never say it, but Alex Karev was one of the closest people in her life. He's like the annoying big brother that always eats your food in the fridge. "I have a test but I haven't taken it yet."

Alex blinked in surprise before he shot up from his chair and directed her towards the bathroom. "Go see if I'll be an uncle."

Minutes later Eliza was back at the bar with her pregnancy test in hand. It's unsanitary to do this at a bar, but she nor Alex gave a shit.

"What's it say?" Alex shuffled closer as he tried to look at the test that still didn't say she was pregnant or not pregnant.

"Its not ready, be patient." Eliza shushed him and watched with prying eyes as words started to appear on the test.

pregnant

Alex cheered in joy, bringing Eliza into a hug but making sure he didn't wrap his arms around her too tightly, not wanting to hurt the little bean. "Congratulations, Ellie!"

Everyone around them cheered, despite not having a single clue on what was happening. It was a moment that Eliza would remember for the rest of her life.

"Ima be a uncle!"

The next day, Eliza has gathered her family into the living room. She's gonna tell them before she tells the father.

"I'm pregnant." Eliza told her family with a smile. She's happy, and in love too. Her hand rested faintly against her stomach.

Everyone cheered like they did in the bar last night. It was wonderful, and her family couldn't have been happier.

"I'm so happy for you, El." Atlas muttered as he wrapped his arms around Eliza.

And then after eating a whole bunch or cupcakes that her brother made, and talking about how she wishes her father would be here to see his grandchild, Eliza left the Lee-Sunny house and made her way to Marks.

They were laying on the floor again, under the stars and where they said their 'I love you's.

"I'm pregnant." Eliza spoke, but she didn't bother to look over at Mark. She didn't want to see his face and risk seeing something that wasn't happiness. "It's yours."

Mark shifted and rolled onto his side, placing his hand on Eliza's cheek and having her turn so they could look in each other's eyes. "I'm gonna be a dad?"

"We're gonna be parents, Mark." Eliza told him with so much love in her words.

Mark cried, he cried before he lifted Eliza into his arms and spun her around. Kissing her on the lips and then kneeling down and lifting her shirt so he could place a kiss to her stomach. "Hi baby, I'm you dad."

When Eliza laughed at Marks actions, he looked up with wide happy eyes. "Can I tell Callie?"

"Of course," Eliza nodded and was soon dragged across the hall by Mark, his hand in hers.

"Callie! Callie open up!" Mark banged on the door as he bounced on his feet. Callie swung the door open and was about to ask why Mark was banging on her door, but Mark didn't give her the chance. "I'm gonna be a dad!"

"Congratulations!"
