"Hello?" Derek Shepherd gasped as he struggled to lean upwards, his body aching with even the slightest movement. He was focusing on whatever was in front of him, not the side of him where he knew something was wrong, where he was trapped. "Hello, anyone? Meredith? Lexie? Mark?"

No answer. Derek was met with the small chirp from a bird, and the rustle of the leaves instead. Above him are tree branches that weave together, some over and some under, some curled around each other. He can faintly hear screaming, it's feminine, he assumes it may be Arizona, Lexie or Meredith — he knows that Christina would have a bit more masculine scream.

He looks to the side now. The sunlight and the branches make him frown, he's only been looking at it for a minute or two but he hates the sight. It makes him want to stay inside somewhere, where there is curtains to hide the outside world.

There's blood. It took him a second to realize that it's his own blood and not someone else's. There's a lot, it covers his whole hand. It's crimson red and most of it is still wet, fresh. His hand is caught in the metal of the place he had been in. It's stuck, there's no way of getting it out without doing more damage. He knows it; and it doesn't even make him think of how he might not do surgery, it makes him think of his children and if he'll ever be able to hold them again.

His kids. Their smiles. He wants to see them smile again. His dogs. He wants to play tug o war with them. He wants to play with them again.
Atlas. His heart and soul. He wants to kiss him and see him again.

So, fuelled by wanting to see his family again, he grabs the closest rock with his free hand and smashes it down onto his bloody and broken hand. Freeing it from the hold the metal had on him.

His eyes close and he lets out a blood curtailing scream that scares the birds.

Venus blinks as she looks around. There's a tree. The wing of the plane. Dirt.

Lexie.

She can see Lexie underneath the wing of the plane. Her body is being crushed, and her free arm is banging a metal seatbelt clip against the metal. Her face is bloody and scrapped, she can faintly see blood that's dried in the corner of her lips.

"Lexie!" Venus places a hand against her chest, her heart beats faster and she's afraid it's going to stop.

She rushes forward, dropping to her knees beside the wing of the place. She reaches out and grabs ahold of Lexies free hand, the latter dropping the metal seatbelt clip. Venus starts to cry, her tears are hot against her cheek and they have a salty taste to them as some land against her lips. "Oh, god, Lex."

Lexies breathing is heavy. Her chest moves quickly and no matter how many deep calming breaths she takes, she can't calm her wicked heartbeat. It scares her that she can't calm her heart; but what scares her more is that Venus, the woman she loves, is going to watch her die.

"V-venus. You're here. You're okay." Lexies words are raspy, and she gasps every few letters. Venus can tell that she is trying really hard to not sound bad, which sends a pang of something in her heart.

Venus squeezes Lexies hand, a sad smile on her bloodied lips. "I'm here, Lex."

And she is. For a moment it's only the two of them — just two who's hearts ache for each others.

Mark, Christina and Meredith leave Arizona and the pilot of the place to go find anyone else that had been on the plane with them.

They find the two woman, Venus and Lexie, together, one trapped and the other free.

Meredith starts to cry at the sight of her half sister trapped. Mark frowns, knowing that no matter how many people there are, they won't be able to get her out. Christina can only try to shake away the sadness she has in her heart at the sight in front of her.

Mark is the first one to move Venus away from the fourth year resident. He practically hands her to Christina so he can check Lexies pulse and and ask her questions.

"How are you doing in there, Lex?" Mark asks, tilting his head and flashing her a smile. He's comforting her, because he knows what'll happen next.

"I'm - I'm great." Lexie forces the words out as she darts her eyes from all over her surrounding, seeing whatever she can see.

"Yeah? Good. We're gonna get you outta here, okay?" He gives her false hope — they aren't going to be able to get her out. But Lexie knows that, and she's accepted it.

Lexie nods shakily. "Okay."

Mark turns towards the others who stand by him. It's Venus who he looks at, "She's tachycardic and short of breath."

Venus sniffles and moves past Mark. She kneels down and then moves onto her stomach so shes level with Lexie. She doesn't say anything as she holds her hand. They just sit in silence.

It isn't until she hears Meredith say that they have to find the others that she turns her head and tells Mark and Christina that they need oxygen and water.

Meredith finds Derek.

He's clutching his hand to his chest. There's blood soaking his dark blue scrubs, Meredith can see it all, even the large open slices that run along his skin.

"Derek, oh god." Meredith gasps as Derek takes a step forward and stumbles.

"Meredith ... I heard your voice."

And then Derek Shepherd collapsed to the forest floor with a thud — causing Meredith Grey to let out a loud gasp and rush forward despite her injured body.

Atlas is walking beside Teddy, they both have a surgery together.

"And it's this big place. Army medical command. I would help oversee every medical operation in the U. S. and in Europe. I would be instructing, innovating surgical field techniques, and they're even interested in funding my stem cell research." Teddy tells Atlas about the job offer that she had received. "But I won't take it. I can't leave Owen when he's at this low."

Atlas nods. He understands that Teddy wouldn't leave her best friend when he truly needs her. But Atlas also knows that this is a wonderful opportunity. "Maybe take a minute to weigh the pros and cons, this is a great —" A pain in Atlas's chest flares and he brings a hand up to clutch the area over his heart. "— ouch."

Teddy watches as Atlas's eyes gloss over. She can see the pain he's in. Reaching out, she grasps his shoulder to help keep him steady. "Atlas are you okay?"

A nurse who had been putting away a chart is quick to reach them. She helps Teddy move Atlas so he's laying on the floor. She takes his vitals — beside his rapidly racing heartbeat, Atlas seems fine.

"Atlas?" Teddy snaps her fingers as Atlas closes his eyes. She shakes him lightly. "Atlas, wake up, come on."

He doesn't wake up. Do they get a gurney and page Richard Webber and Owen Hunt.

Venus attempts to lift the metal part of the plane of off Lexie. It doesn't work, no matter how hard she tries. Even with Marks help, they couldn't do it.

"I'm dying." Lexie says throughout gasps as she tightens her hold on Venus hand. "I'm dying, Vee."

Venus shakes her head and cries harder. "No, no."

"Tell Meredith that I love her. And that she's a good sister. Mm. Please t-tell my dad ..." Lexie tries so hard to speak, but her breathing is getting much heavier and she's having a harder time.

"You're not dying. You're gonna be fine." Venus whispers as she tries to calm herself. She doesn't want to accept it. "You'll be fine, Lex."

"Venus..."

"I love you." Venus doesn't hesitate. Her words are true, there's no lie. She loves Lexie.

"You don't have to say it because I said it." Lexie whispers back, her eyes widening at what she had heard. Venus loves her.

"I do, I love you." Venus smiles so brightly, despite the tears that roll down her cheeks. "I love you. I've always been in love with you. I will always be in love with you. It's you."

"Yeah?" Lexie nods, smiling so wide that she flashes her bloody teeth. Venus doesn't even care though, neither does Lexie.

"Yeah. Which is why you have to stay alive. We - we - we're gonna get married, too! And you're gonna make an amazing surgeon, we'll go and pick you your own scrub cap. And we're gonna have two or three kids." Venus has imagined it; the life she would have with Lexie. It's what she wants, but it's to late.

Lexies eyes light up. "So Adeline can have nieces and nephews."

"Yeah. We're gonna be happy, Lex — you and me. We're gonna have the best life, Lexie. We're gonna be so happy. So you can't die, okay? You can't die, because we're supposed to end up together." Venus watches Lexies chest slow. "We're meant to be."

"Meant to be." Lexies eyes close and she lets out the last bit of air in her chest.

She's dead.

"Oh my god!" Oliver screams as she stumbles forward and falls to his knees beside Venus and Lexie.

Oliver and Christina are the only ones awake. Everyone else is asleep or dead, one or the other. The stars are out, and if it weren't for the circumstances, they would have been beautiful.

"Thank you, Christina." Oliver whispers as he uses a stick to keep the fire alive. "You - you aren't my person, but you've been there for me and Meredith."

The fire goes out and they can't get it to start again. It's just the two of them sitting side by side, any clothing or blankets wrapped around them to keep themselves warm.

Christina claims she hungry, and Oliver digs a granola bar out of his pocket. He gives it to Christina who takes it with hope and happiness. She leans against him, glad to have him.

"Thank you, Olly. For everything."

Richard Webber has gathered some of the best people in his hospital — Miranda Bailey, Callie Torres, Owen Hunt and Teddy Altman.

"There's a patient, the patients name is ... they're, uh, one of our own. We don't know what's happening." Richard announces to the people sitting around the table. He slides them a chart.

Miranda Bailey looks up at the name plastered across the chart. Atlas Lee-Sunny.

No one can figure out what's wrong with him, and no scans can show them anything. It's almost going to have to be a waiting game.

"We need to rule some things out, but for now, let's keep him hydrated and watched."

"The seven years you spend here as a surgical resident, will be the best and worst of your life. You will be pushed to the breaking point. Eight of you will switch to an easier specialty. Five of you will crack under the pressure. Two of you will be asked to leave. This is your starting line. This is your arena. How well you play, that's up to you."

Maybe Oliver and everyone else should have played the game differently.
