⸙ Epilogue | Crossroads

"Are we in the right place?" Yoongi sighs.

Jin hums, "But seriously, why did we come here? It's so hot."

"Because you wanted to go fishing," Yoongi says and lets his body slide more on the chair he was sitting on.

"Oh, right," the older one sighs.

It's quiet. Only the sound of birds chirping and water rippling could be heard, and of course, occasional old man grunts from either of them. Sitting still for three hours does that to you.

When will you talk to Hayoung? Yoongi wants to ask. You both still love each other, Hayoung's back to being her old self, she's been going for therapy too then what is holding you back Hyung?

"Are you coming to the art gallery?" Yoongi asks. He sees Jin tense up a little because he knows  Hayoung would be there but when Jin turns to him with a smile, he nods, "Of course, I should."

"I don't think there's any fish here," Yoongi says.

"We probably should not have trusted Manager Hyung," Jin scoffs.

. . .

It's okay to be here, Jin reminds himself, staring in the mirror. Everything is okay.

He nods, fixing his collar once more before walking out of the bathroom. Jungkook is standing there waiting for him and once he sees Jin approach him, he swings his arms around his Hyung's shoulder, "Is everything alright? Are you pregnant?"

Jin parts his lips in disbelief and elbows Jungkook's chest while the younger bursts into laughter, kicking him back, "What else should I think? You have been whiny about everything since morning, oh it's so hot, so furry, so itchy and now you went to washroom for like three times in twenty minutes—"

"Alright, shut up," Jin pinches Jungkook's chest. The latter raises his hands up in surrender. Jin starts walking towards the area where Yoongi's pieces were supposed to be displayed and Jungkook follows him, keeping some distance because Jin has his hands ready to pinch him again.

When Jin spots Hayoung standing with Yoongi, he halts, as if something is holding him down. "Will you be okay?" Jungkook asks, giving a worried look at Jin.

The elder nods and Jungkook gives him another scan. He thinks he should leave him alone, and when he is sure Jin would be okay, he skips his way to Namjoon.

Jin sighs and looks at Hayoung, who is looking as beautiful as ever.  He misses her so much. He wants to hold her, kiss her and tell her how proud he is. She seems to be doing better, will him getting back with her, ruin that?

On his left, he realises they are Hayoung's pieces. He could tell it by the way he can see half-painted facial features, a standard in Hayoung's recent artworks.

It's the odd mixture of warmth and cold that surrounds her paints, the smell of paint that she always makes sure remains after she is sort of done with her paintings (no painting is ever complete for her) and the lonely figures in between families of objects— it's fascinating.

He steps closer to look around absentmindedly, stopping in front of a piece to read the note beside it. Artist's note, it says and it tells us about the artwork. Most of those notes are just thank you note because Hayoung likes it when people interpret her paintings in their own ways.

"It can be a rabbit for one and a deer for another, who am I to prove to them that I actually made a dog?"

"Does it not bother you that they can't recognise what you've made?"

"I don't know what I have made either, I like to think I was thinking of your dog when I was making it, Jin."

Then he stops in front of a particular canvas.

Abyss. She names the piece Abyss.

He is hundred per cent sure that's him. A figure looking somewhere, surrounded by deeper and deeper shades of blue. His heart feels so empty after seeing it— it's the simplest piece there but the one which holds the most emotions.

It's like he is seeing himself through her eyes for the first time.

"That's my favourite too."

Jin turns towards Hayoung who has a smile on her face. Hayoung can see her painting over Jin's shoulder and she can see the parallels in it. No wonder she was always so attached to that piece. She drew Jin, and only they know.

Jin and Hayoung both know that this is the first time Hayoung has drawn Jin, as a whole figure—not just eyes, lips or hands.

There's Jin Hyung in every piece you draw. Yoongi's words ring in her head.

Hayoung has tears in her eyes and so does Jin. The pain of staying apart from your real soulmate has made them stronger— and now, they both know nothing can separate them.

Hayoung takes hesitant steps towards him and when she throws her arms around him, Jin's heart drops. He hides his face in the crook of her neck as he silently lets her tears fall. He feels so vulnerable that some part of him wants to run away but when she whispers, "Thank you," in his ear, he is happy to come back home.

He's crying, and Hayoung knows it's an invitation back to his heart— the one she has broken over and over again. The one they both know she'll do anything to protect from now on. Because she loves him more than anything else.

His lips are not foreign when they meet hers, he holds her close to him, softly as if too much force would break her. Their hearts beat in sync, learning to beat together in a rhythm once again. When Hayoung holds his face in her hands, she finds every other canvas wasted now—nothing compared to the alluring art she holds in her palms.

Hayoung has trusted the right thing— time which pieced them back together.

Jin has trusted the best thing—love which would make them stay forever.
