28 | The Fatekeepers

────✧ ⋆ ✧────

As soon as the members left for the hospital, Arin grew hyperaware of Hayoung's presence in the room.

Jin and Yoongi just exchanged worried glances as they waited for a call to let them know if everything was alright there. Hayoung finds herself growing irritated with every second, why is everyone so dramatic in this house?

The members have gone, they will let them know if things weren't good. The call comes in the early afternoon when Hayoung has already left for work and Arin contemplates going home since she has nothing to do here anymore but Jin convinces her to have lunch before.

The lunch turns into a lazy gaming session between them while Yoongi's in his room and the sun is down before they even realise it. The doorbell startles them as Jin pauses the game, confused. No member or Hayoung would ring the doorbell then who is at the door? And why has the security not called them beforehand?

Arin's quick on her feet to open the door and before Jin could stop her, a strange man is already walking inside. An equally strange woman follows him, standing on their doorstep, wearing the most expensive formals Arin has seen on a human. (If those diamonds on the corners of their collars and cuffs are real.)

"Good morning, we are from the Bonds of Fate HQ," the woman introduces herself, leaning her weight on one leg. Jin pulls Arin back, protectively. " Are we talking to..." the woman's voice trails off and she nudges the man's side, who leans towards her.

"What was that juvenile's name.."

"Arin," the man says. The woman smiles, nodding before repeating, "Arin."

"I am not a juvenile!" Arin huffs.

The woman nods and invites herself inside the room. "Then you must not be Arin."

"That is not what I meant!" Arin scoffs and Jin sighs, showing his eyes to Arin to shut her up.

"How may we help you?" Jin is surprised to see Hayoung with her arms crossed in front of her chest, standing behind the woman. Arin tenses and scoots closer to Jin. Yoongi is also outside, nudging Jin to ask who these people were.

The woman blinks at the new voice and smirks, looking at Hayoung from her up to down. "We are here to retrieve our property," the woman says, "We have received information of it being here."

"With a juve—" the man corrects himself as Arin throws a glare," Ms Arin,"

"Why would I have something of yours with me?" Arin scoffs, rolling her eyes. At the moment, two cars drive inside and stop right before their house. It's the members.

"Jungkook joined us at the hospital after some time, he had bought his car so it was easy to carry the equipment." Namjoon walks out while speaking to someone on the call.

"What's happening here?" Jungkook asks when he sees a crowd at the doorstep. Namjoon stops the others to get out of the car, looking towards the door, sceptical.

The woman nudges the man and he instantly taps on his phone before showing the screen towards Jin. Jungkook walks past the strangers as he reads what's written on the phone along.

"You are invited to the wedding of Mr Minho—" Jin reads, furrowing his eyebrows as he reads what was written on the screen. The man panics, realising he's given them the wrong document to read and he looks at the woman. "I—"

"Details of your incompetency do not interest me." The woman simply says. Jin turns to Arin wide-eyed,"Are you getting married?"

"What?" Arin gasps.

"They are here for you right—" the phone is quickly pulled out of his hand and placed again after the man makes sure it is the correct one. "My apologies Sir, technology is still new to me, here's the permission to search the belongings of Ms Arin, now if you would excuse me."

And off he goes around the living room, walking as if it's his house. Namjoon comes inside, inquires about the situation and all of their eyes follow the man's movement.

He turns towards the bag placed on the couch and is about to pick it up when Arin shouts,"No, how dare you—" Arin is about to run towards the man when he starts opening the bag but Yoongi holds her back by gripping her hoodie. She whines, running in the same place,"I bought a new album this morning, I swear if something happens—"

And the sound of a paper tearing makes her stop.

The man immediately puts the bag down and asks Namjoon to take him up. The latter hesitantly does as the woman looks around the kitchen. Yoongi lets go of Arin who dramatically falls on the ground, taking her bag in her arms.

She looks inside and takes the album out, "Oh my god."

The album's outer cover had a tear in its corner. "Q#?!3h!#$ you tore the cover!"

Hayoung rolls her eyes and the rest of them wait, hearing Arin whining about the album and how she'll sue the strangers if they don't take responsibility. The man comes down after a few minutes, shaking his head.

"It's not there?" the woman scoffs, then raises her voice. "But it is supposed to be here."

"But it is not," Jin says, his voice was stern but there was a hint of tiredness in it."So please leave," Namjoon slightly bows.

The woman seems hesitant, not moving from her place. "Where have you hidden—" and she is reluctantly dragged out of the house by the man and the door closes.

"Hoseok, Jimin, Taehyung and Eunbee are in the car, I will bring them in," Namjoon says and walks out. Arin sighs and others look at her.

Hayoung scoffs mentally thinking if stealing things is in their blood.

"Is everything okay? Who were those people?" Hoseok enters, looking at Arin who's now removing everything from her bag as if searching for something.

"What's up Arin?" Hoseok asks. Arin shakes her head, mumbling nothing but keeps looking through her bag until she hears someone speak in the silence again.

"Looking for this?"

It was Yoongi with Arin's glowing thread in his hand, swaying slightly in the air.

The members are confused when Arin looks more nervous than happy, which ideally should have been her reaction. Arin shifts her weight from one leg to the other, staring at the string with wide eyes. "Why...why do you have that?"

Yoongi shrugs.

"Why would you touch other people's things?" Arin says, snatching the string from his hand and clutching it to her chest. Maybe she doesn't realise how loud her voice was because the people in the room, visibly flinched.

"Arin, " Jin scolds, an octave lower, "that is not right."

Arin pouts and throws a glare at Yoongi. The others grow confused at her behaviour, finding it strange.

"Why are you getting so defensive about just a string Arin?" Yoongi raises his eyebrows, crossing his arms in front. "If it were so important to you, why did you leave it on the couch yesterday? You should be thanking me that I kept it with me to return to you because I know you like that string or whatever. I don't understand what to take of this behaviour of yours."

Arin can understand by his indifferent yet knowing tone that he seems to be saying—'I know what's up and you better speak up'— to her and she feels her throat go dry.

"It is just a string Yoongi, we know she keeps it with her all the time," Jin says. He can sense some accusation in Yoongi's tone and, clearly, Arin is not liking it.

"I know that Hyung. I am just saying that this behaviour of her is odd..." Yoongi reasons. "As if she's hiding something."

Jin shakes his head, "Oh come on! I and you also react the same way when your things are touched by someone else–"

"I agree," Hayoung chips in. "She is hiding something. Arin's unnecessarily rude to someone who was kind enough to keep 'just a string' safe for her, if not for him – the string could have ended up in the dustbin long back."

Jin parts his lips, confused. He holds Hayoung's arm to not let her interrupt or gang up on the kid but she shrugs his hold away, making his heart drop. "What are you hiding little one?"

"I'm not!" Arin grits her teeth, balling her hands into fists. "Hiding anything!"

"It just keeps getting certain that you are." Yoongi shakes his head, "Even the people from the fate headquarters came finding you today."

Arin shakes her head. Hayoung's patience runs out and she steps closer before anyone can even stop her. She tries to take the string from Arin while holding her still by applying pressure on her arm, digging her nails into the skin. "Stop lying, you clearly are. If it's just a string then why are you—"

"Can you stop butting in my business!" Arin shouts. She backs away, shrugging the elder's hold on her and putting her hand behind her back, "I don't right? I never butt in between You and Yoongi!"

Jin furrows his eyebrows. Jungkook leans close to whisper to her, correcting her, "You mean Noona and Jin Hyung."

But Arin glares at him, "It is Yoongi." and then she points at the man, "Yoongi is her soulmate."

A long silence follows her words. Jin feels suffocated, he wants to get out of the room– scream his lungs out, punch a wall or two and just forget that he is her soulmate, not him. He, Yoongi, is— him—Jin, is not.

"What..?" Jungkook straightens up and gives an awkward smile to the rest of the people in the room who are too taken aback by the words, "What are you saying Arin? Have you gone insane?"

"If you don't believe me, ask them," Arin looks at Hayoung with a scowl on her face, "Ask your dear Hyung if he is Hayoung's soulmate or not!"

"Arin, stop!" Jungkook whispers and holds her arm, "You're taking this too far—"

"Yoongi is..." Jin interrupts, breathing out as he says it. His eyes are fixed to his feet, his voice cracking. "Hayoung's soulmate."

Now when he has said those words himself, he is sure they sounded venomous. He wants to puke, or hit his head on the wall– why did he speak when the question does not involve him?

"He is what!?" A new voice cuts in. Jungkook looks up towards the doorstep where Jimin, Namjoon, Taehyung and Eunbee stood.

"He is what??" Taehyung repeats, in equal surprise as Jimin. Hayoung stands there wide-eyed, looking at Yoongi who is staring back at her. Hoseok ruffles his hair and sighs– just when the things could not get worse.

Hayoung expected him to be surprised but who was she kidding, those dreams were real. Yoongi knew. "Why didn't you say anything before, if you knew?"

"You knew too."

"Why did you not tell me?" Hayoung raises her voice. "Why did you act like you did not know? You had so many chances to tell me! You could have told me when you went to my art studio!"

Jin sighs. Yoongi went to Hayoung's art studio. Before he can even process it properly, his brain is laying out numerous possibilities of what could have happened there.

"Tell you and how was I supposed to do that when you were so busy being a bitch!" Yoongi raises his voice too.

"Hyung..." Namjoon whispers to Yoongi who glances at Jin standing there with his eyes closed. Yoongi breathes out.

"Do you know how difficult it was to act as nothing changed for all these days?" Hayoung says, her fists clenching. Jin takes a step back, he wants to run away.

"I had planned to go to your studio to tell you," Yoongi says.

Jin takes another step back.

"I had but I remembered you dreaming of you tearing down all your paintings when Jin left you in your dreams once. How did you expect me to tell you?"

Another step back.

"Do you know how scared I was? I thought you would do worse if anything happens in real life! That is why I even took the blades away from your drawer too, just in case, but then..." Yoongi pauses and takes a deep breath, "I could not tell you because..."

The back of Jin's knees touch the couch, he pauses.

"...your studio was filled with everything resembling Hyung in a way."

Jin sits down with a thump.

For a moment, everyone thinks he's lost balance and is quick to bring their hands to hold him out but when they see his eyes dead, staring at the ground, they just leave him be.

Namjoon gestures to Jimin to go up with Arin and pats Taehyung to help Eunbee to his room. They nod, walking upstairs as the rest follow them as well, leaving Jin and Yoongi with Hayoung.

"I have nothing to talk about," Yoongi says, turning around.

"We do!" Hayoung interrupts. "Do you think acting like nothing happened would make everything better?"

"So what do you want me to do? We have nothing in our hands," Yoongi scoffs, "You are Hyung's girlfriend, so it does not matter if I am your soulmate or not? Nothing would change!"

"Still–"

"Hyung," Yoongi interrupts Hayoung and turns towards Jin who was still sitting quietly on the couch. "I did not tell you because I thought it does not matter," he walks up to him, "I'm sorry if I thought wrong...but trust me,"

He closes his eyes and takes a deep breath, "Trust me."

He opens his eyes, "I would never hurt you."

Jin stands up and looks into Yoongi's eyes. He nods after a moment, "I know."

Jin gives a last look at Hayoung before he's walking back to his room and his door shuts with force.

Then the moment, Hayoung knows is that she's inside and pinned against the door of Yoongi's studio and a glare fixed on her.

. . .

Taehyung room seems untouched ever since he left.

The same pile of clothes sit on the chair, the lid of his lotion still half opened and the the toys Yeontan had knocked over still lay the same way. "Did no one clean my room?" he asks, scoffing.

"Ofcourse we did, we changed the bedsheet." Jimin says, rolling his eyes. Taehyung grimaces, shaking his head. Eunbee however, is mesmerised to see his room and her eyes dart all over the walls. Taehyung is immediately lying down on his bed, murmuring how he's missed the comfort.

Then he's scolding Yeontan for jumping on the bed with him. He feels  finally home when Jungkook kicks his leg to make a place for him to sit.

"Why are you here?" he groans. Jungkook sticks his tongue out.

Arin stomps her way in with Jimin, Hoseok and Namjoon following her inside. They help Eunbee get comfortable with her back resting against the headboard while Arin is anxiously shaking her leg.

Then Jimin slaps Taehyung so that he can sit on the bed too and Taehyung's complaining about it while he scoots away.

"Arin."

Arin looks up at Namjoon, knowing very well how the conversation will go.

Yoongi and Namjoon haven't been around much at home so Arin hasn't spent time with them yet, which is why she often feels intimidated, not knowing how they'll react to something.

She doesn't want to talk about anything to them and hence, decides to close the conversation before it could even start. "I apologised for my behaviour already! What more do you want me to do?"

"I know, I know I am not asking you to apologise, kid," Namjoon takes a chair and sits in front of her. The rest of them listen intently.

"I just want to understand the whole situation with the Bonds of fate people, they came all the way here asking for you." Namjoon sighs, trying to make sure Arin doesn't get him wrong or come out as accusing. "Do you know what that means? They didn't go to your place but they came here, because, somehow, they know you'll be here."

"I didn't disclose anyone anything." Arin says, voice edgy. Jungkook and Jimin exchange glances with each other, finding Arin's behaviour odd. She has her walls up and everything anyone says sounds accusatory to her, which makes them concerned.

Namjoon sighs. "Don't get me wrong Arin but Jimin told me that you already knew about me and your sister being soulmates. That isn't possible because despite the urges, even we didn't come to that conclusion...then how did you know it?"

Arin glares at Jimin who shrugs. "Namjoon Hyung overheard you scolding me for not keeping my mouth shut and how I do not know how to enjoy the suspense that night."

She had even called him a spoiler king because he gave away the main plot of the story.

"I just find it strange. You also knew about Yoongi hyung and Hayoung, you know details of the bonds even we haven't discovered yet. How is it that you know?"

Arin keeps her mouth shut, averting her gaze from him.

"I just want to know if you are hiding something from us," Namjoon sighs, "Something that might be of our help or something?"

When Arin doesn't say anything, Hoseok pipes in, "She would have told us something like that, we should trust her Namjoon." Hoseok says and looks at Arin, "She won't lie to us, right?"

Arin looks up at Hoseok and somehow her eyes get filled with tears. She looks at her lap before she mumbles, "Yes..."

Namjoon nods, "Alright. Thank you, Arin."

Arin hums, fidgeting with her fingers. Taehyung all of a sudden sits up straight, staring at his phone. "Hyung..."

"What is it Tae?" Namjoon says, looking at him.

"Seojun Hyung sent me an article..." he looks up and says, "It's about the breaking of the bonds."
