josefine and mattias were high school sweethearts. they started dating when jo was fifteen and he was sixteen, and they were together for four years. mattias played hockey, and the two broke up because he was drafted to NHL, and she didn't want to move to new york with him. considering she was at the height of her own skiing career. so they called it off. he's her one that got away.

✰ josefine grew up in northern sweden, and for the early years of her life, she and her mother lived with her grandparents, since her parents were very young when they had her. her father (who lived in chicago, but was still a very huge part of her life) visited on holidays, and she visited him every summer from when she turned five.

✰ her mother married daniel when she was seven, and they all moved down south to stockholm. and along came a brother and eventually her younger sisters that are twins.

✰ with daniel came finical stability and even luxury, something josefine and her mother didn't have before. josefine started skiing when she was eight years old.

✰ she began competing in various skiing competitions when she was 12 years old. and was eventually even found my a trainer. she was 13 when she was scouted by monika tano, a trainer for professional alpine skiers.

   ✰ it was through monika, she met andreas nielsen, who was another skier, the two have been best friends since they were 14 years old.

✰ at 16. she qualified for the olympics in salt lake city, the youngest swedish woman to ever compete in alpine skiing in the olympics. she got a bronze medal.

✰ she won her first olympic gold medal in 2006, at twenty years old. she became a sensation in her home country. ( today that fame has died off a little of course, but she still occasionally gets recognised ). in 2010 she won another gold medal, in vancouver.

   ✰ she went to nursing school at uppsala university simultaneously as she was skiing. and graduated in 2009.

✰ in 2013, her father called her, to inform her that he had gotten diagnosed with cancer. so josefine decided to put her athletic career on pause, and leave europe for a while, and she moved to chicago.
