Wings Unfurled

The moment his eyes locked onto the scene before him, Tiran's world came to a standstill. His heart slammed against his chest, threatening to burst free from his ribcage as he witnessed the love of his life, Deigh, plummeting towards the ground with Liam by her side. The scream that tore from his throat was raw and primal, echoing through the air as he watched in horror.

His vision blurred as he tore through the air on his wyvern, his wings beating wildly as he fought to reach them. The world around him was a chaotic blur, a whirlwind of destruction and chaos as the ground rushed up to meet them. Deigh's and Liam's screams were drowned out by the roar of the wyverns and the thunderous beat of Tiran's own heart.

Just as all hope seemed lost, a massive beast - a creature of pure power and fury - swooped down, its massive claws grasping for Deigh and Liam. Tiran's gut twisted with a mix of fear and relief as the beast lifted them both into the air, soaring higher and higher as they escaped the spiraling chaos below.

The sky seemed to split apart as lightning illuminated the darkening clouds, and Tiran's stomach lurched with every beat of his wings as he struggled to keep pace with the beast. His vision was a kaleidoscope of colors and sounds, but one thought consumed him: he had to get to Deigh.

The beast's wings beat the air one final time, and it came to a stop on a lush green hillside, not far from the human city they had just fled. Tiran's voice thundered over the wind as he called out to the beast, "Where are you taking us?!" The beast threw its head back, and Tiran's heart skipped a beat as he saw the faint glow of its rider's eyes, his love's eyes.

"No," Tiran breathed, his words barely audible over the din of the storm. But the beast gave no verbal response, instead choosing to nod its great head in a slow, deliberate movement. As it did, its hind legs struck the ground, sending up clouds of earth and gravel. The beast then settled down, its massive wings spread wide to shield Deigh and Liam from the torrential rain that threatened to engulf them.

The beast's smile broadened as their eyes met, his gaze piercing hers like a shaft of sunlight. "You are aware of my identity," she said, her voice low and husky, and Tairn's golden eyes narrowed at her, his expression a mask of curiosity. His eyes were drawn to hers, captivated by the blue shimmer that danced like the celestial bodies on a starry night. "Aethera," he replied, his voice low and melodious, the dragons smiling in approval. "I am delighted to know you remember me, my friend." Her wings rustled softly as she leaned in, her touch hesitant. "Fear not, Liam and Deigh will suffice," she whispered.

"Behold, I saw you fall," Tairn said, his wings tensing as her touch stirred a cauldron of emotions within him. His anger resurfaced, and he clenched his teeth in remembrance of the moment he had watched her flee from those mortal youths, who had dared to covet her. He seethed at the thought of those callow young men, so foolish and naive, who would never possess his beloved. Never.

"I did indeed fall, but my true self emerged to save the day," Aethira said, curling her lips into a radiant smile as she gazed at Liam's still form, who lay pressed against Deigh's as both of them slept, their wounds no longer gaping and no longer bleeding. The sky soon released the storm, and the storm clouds retreated to their original place, from where they had come forth.

"So this is what you've been hiding beneath that fair façade of yours, the whole time?" Tairn asked, leaning in to sniff one of Aethira's scented glands, his eyes narrowing as her claws slid into the ground. "I...yes, it seems I didn't even know it myself," Aethira replied, her voice barely above a whisper. "Who are these Stray Kids? They're not hurt, are they?" Tairn scoffed. "You care about them more than me, really?"

Aeithira shook her head, aghast. "No, no, no, of course not," she said, and Tairn scoffed before his tongue slid out of its socket and licked her scented gland. She let out a sharp yelp and curved her neck away from him. "Don't, please..."

Tairn rumbled a low, husky laugh before pressing his rough, scaly face against hers. "I missed you," he whispered, his breath hot against her skin like lilies on a summer day. Aeithra sighed and closed her blue eyes, her voice barely audible as she spoke. "You would never lose me, Tairn, never." He rumbled softly before coming closer and laying an wing over her, holding her close as they waited for dawn to break and their den to awaken.

Soon enough, Liam woke and emerged from their den, and Aeithra was back to her concerned self. Liam smiled when she lifted her head and pressed it against his stomach. "It's good to be back in the living world, and it's good to have you back too, Aeithra," he said. Tairn rumbled softly before removing himself from Aeithra and looked at his friend, whose mile-long nose twitched with amusement. "Thank you, Tairn, thanks to both of you that venom is dead and Deigha and I are alive,"

Deigh stood on the rocky outcrop, his wings unfurled. The sun painted his scales a deep crimson, and the scars etched into the membrane told tales of fierce battles. Tairn, his loyal friend, watched him closely. His obsidian eyes held concern. "You alright?" Tairn's voice rumbled, the sound echoing off the cliffs.

Deigh nodded, a wry smile tugging at his lips. "Yes, yes, I'm fine," he replied. His fingers traced the ridges of one scar, memories flooding back—the clash of claws, the searing pain, and the taste of victory.

Aethria, radiant and otherworldly, approached them. Her wings shimmered with iridescent blue scales, catching the light like fractured gemstones. She touched Tairn's shoulder, her touch electric. "Nice to have you back," she murmured, her voice a melody.

Tairn's breath caught. He'd missed her—missed the way her laughter danced on the wind, missed the warmth of her presence. "And you," he whispered, his gaze lingering on her.

Liam, the youngest of the trio, bounded over. His azure eyes sparkled with mischief. "Let's go home, yeah?" he suggested, his enthusiasm contagious. Deigh inclined his head toward Liam, and Tairn hummed in agreement. Home—the cave nestled in the heart of the mountains, where embers glowed and secrets whispered.

Aethria hesitated, her wings flexing. "Do you want to fly with us," Tairn asked, "or should you be my rider again?" His touch was gentle, a promise of freedom or loyalty, whichever she chose.

Aethria's response was swift. Her wings unfurled, and she leaned forward. "I'll always be your rider, Tairn," she said, determination in her eyes, "but now I can fly whenever I want." With that declaration, she launched herself into the sky, her form a streak of celestial beauty.

The two male dragons followed suit. Liam perched confidently on Deigh's back, their wings beating in synchrony. They soared, leaving the mundane world behind, ascending toward the boundless expanse. The wind carried their laughter, and for a moment, they were more than dragons—they were freedom incarnate.

And so, against the canvas of azure skies, their flight began—a symphony of wings, scars, and unbreakable bonds.
