1. A Small Gift
-One Week Ago-
"(Y/n), I know you're bummed that you won't be queen anymore, but that isn't an excuse to leave your room a mess," Cassandra, Rapunzel's new handmaiden, complained.
You looked up from your desk, "Huh? Oh, uh sorry Cass! Also! I'm not upset!" Cass gave you a 'really?' look, "I'm just...disappointed that I wasted 15 years of my life preparing for something that won't actually happen..."
Cass picked up the books on the floor, "Yeah disappointed? Now that's an understatement," you rolled your eyes.
"Anyway, Rapunzel want's me to join her on a tour of the kingdom," you said trying to change the subject. You picked up your light brown satchel and slung it over your shoulder.
"You do know that your sister's a handful right?" Cass asked organizing your bookshelf. You picked up a few books trying to help.
"Yeah, yeah, I know but it's been six months Cass! I've barely spent time with her!" You explained. The door opened revealing Rapunzel. Her green eyes shimmering with excitement.
"Ready (Y/n)?" she grinned.
"Yup!" you replied. You and Rapunzel waved good-bye to Cass and started walking down the hall towards the castle gates. When you arrived about half of the entire guard was at your side. The doors opened and Rapunzel ran around the streets with you right behind her.
"Oh my gosh! Look at this place! It's beautiful!" your sister said admiring the streets.
You giggled, it was like watching a kid enter a candy store for the first time. "Well if you think that's cool come with me!" you grabbed onto your sisters arm showing her the many shops and houses of Corona. When you got to the orphanage a bundle of children were outside playing games.
You visited the kingdom monthly and you always made sure to come to the orphanage, the kids had no parents, the least you could do was visit them, "Hi guys!" you cheerfully said. The kids looked up and smiled wider than you've ever seen before.
Before you could say anything the children yelled, "Princess Rapunzel!" they ran past you and straight into your big sister's arms. She smiled introducing herself to the young children. You frowned expecting a simple 'Hello' or at least an acknowledgement for your existence, but sadly neither thing happened. It was like this the whole day, everyone praised Rapunzel, giving gifts, wanting autographs, etc.
The two of you made your way to your final destination: Monty's Sweet Shoppe. Uncle Monty was a nice man, he offered you free treats, and nearly everyone adored him. You opened the shop door hearing the familiar ring of the bell chime. "Hi Uncle Monty!" you exclaimed. Monty glanced up smiling at you.
"Why hello Princess (Y/n)!" Monty smiled. His blue eyes looked from you to your sister. His once bright smile immediately faded into a dead stare, "And a hello to you too Rapunzel." The way he said her name made your blood run cold. There was tension in the room and Rapunzel could feel it too. She decided against trying to chat with Monty and instead talked to the children inside.
You attempted to join Rapunzel in her conversation but was immediately shoved by a customer in the store, "Hey! Watch where you're going!" they yelled.
"Watch where I'm going?! You-" you sighed in defeat and stepped out of the way not wanting to cause a scene.
You made your way towards Uncle Monty not being noticed by anyone in the shop. "Hey, Uncle Monty..." you mumbled glancing back at your sister.
Monty frowned, "Now what's the matter princess?" Monty asked. You sighed, directly facing the candy man.
"It's nothing...I just...it isn't nothing..." you couldn't match eye contact, embarrassed that your feelings were petty, "It's just that ever since Rapunzel came home everyone pays attention to her. I know it's selfish but I just feel left out..."
Monty smiled, "There's nothing to be ashamed about princess! Everyone feels that way sometimes! Want to hear a small secret of mine?" you nodded intrigued, "I don't like Princess Rapunzel,"
You were confused, "But why? Everyone loves her!" It was true, everyone did love your sister and why wouldn't they? In your eyes she was perfect.
"Well princess, not everyone has to like everyone..." he explained, "I just don't agree that she should be the new heir to the throne. It's unfair that she gets to be queen just because she's older."
"That's what I've been saying!" you smiled happy that someone finally understood, but saddened that you couldn't do anything to change your fate. You sighed, "But there's nothing I can do, my father said the eldest daughter gets the throne and that's final."
Monty reached for something under the counter, "Princess, I think you're giving Rapunzel too much credit. Sure she's the eldest and sure she is going to rule Corona one day, but that doesn't mean you can't do something special yourself," you looked behind the counter, Uncle Monty was on his knees still trying to retrieve whatever object he was searching for, "Rapunzel may shine bright but I can tell with just a little time you'll be able to shine just like her, maybe even brighter!"
Those were the exact words you needed to hear, Uncle Monty had always had a talent for knowing the right thing to say and just how to say it, "Aha!" he cheered standing back up with a (f/f) (Favorite flavor) lollipop, "Here it is!"
He handed the treat to you, "A lollipop? Uncle Monty, I'm sorry, but I don't think that a lollipop will change this situation," you frowned.
Monty laughed, "I know that princess! It may not look like much but I think it'll cheer you up!" you lifted an eyebrow, "Hm...think of it as a small gift!" Monty said.
"A gift?" you asked.
The man smiled tenderly, "Yep! A small thank you for being Corona's prized princess for fifteen years,"
You smiled back gratefully, "Thanks Uncle Monty," you left the shoppe, your sister right behind you. As she talked about the gifts and presents she got, you looked down at the sweet treat in your hand.
The next morning you woke up early, eager to start the day right. You checked the clock in your room, confused that your sister wasn't up yet. She's usually up at seven o'clock already doing something productive.
You opened your sister's bedroom door and saw a blonde trail of hair laying on the floor. Your eyes scanned the trail until it ended at...your sister?
"What the hell happened?!" you yelled. The room froze. You looked around now noticing that the room was a complete mess. Weapons on the floor, a broken table, and long blonde hair scattered around the room. Cassandra was holding up the blonde locks, Eugene looked like he was in the middle of a mental breakdown, and Rapunzel was sitting on a chair.
"Uhhh...surprise?" your sister awkwardly cheered.
Eugene pitched in saying the dumbest line you've ever heard, "Would you believe that this was a wig?"
