sakura's original plan consisted of moping around the house and being completely unproductive. she was happy with that, but beomgyu clearly wasn't.
"please, kura, i'm so bored. you have to hang out with me," he begged and whined. she tried her best to block him out, but he was not letting her. he was desperate to do something, anything.
"if you go outside with me i'll buy you starbucks for a week," he bribed. that immediately worked, she would do anything if she got something in return. it was a bad trait of hers, but it was true! in her mind, anything was worth free food.
she ushered the boy out of her room to get dressed. she quickly did so, brushing her teeth and all. it had been merely minutes when she exited her room. she found the older male sitting on the couch, phone in his hand. he looked up from the device, smiled, and put it in his pocket.
"let's go!" he exclaimed, grabbing the girls hand and leading her to the door. he impatiently waited for her to put on her jacket and when she finally did, shoved her through the door.
she giggled, happy he was happy. "where are we even going?" he brought a finger to his lips, indicating secrecy. "oh, come on! it can't be that serious. gyu, we are literally some of the closest members in this group, you gotta tell me." her begging did nothing to faze him.
she rolled her eyes, completely contradicting the small smile painting her features. she didn't expect anything too grand from the boy, then two both knew hanging out was more than enough.
so as they walked closer to the arcade, she was blown away. she was used to just walking around with the boy, going to cafΓ©s and parks. that was it. actually doing something alone together was something she wasn't used to, but gladly would.
"wow," she spoke, entranced. "if you told me we would be coming here i wouldn't gotten ready in a heartbeat." he laughed, "so i don't have to hug you starbucks?" she looked him straight into the eye "a deals a deal!" he grunted but got over it in the same second.
the two happily skipped over to pay for the arcade card, and immediately went off to the racing. she learned from past experiences that she was terrible at every racing game other than the nintendo ones. probably because those were the easiest.
she chose to ignore her logical thoughts. who cares about logic when you could tease beomgyu? "you're going to lose so bad it's honestly going to be kind of embarrassing." knowing her not-so-great track record with these games, he chose to simply laugh.
"okay, hotshot. what about that one time like three months ago when you lost every roun-" she cut him off with a playful slap to the arm. "i don't know what you're talking about! stop lying!" he chuckled, "you're such a gaslighter."
about to start another fight, she calmed herself down. be the better person, be the better person, be the better perso- "stop calling me a gaslighter when you're literally a pathological liar. last week you lied and said you-" the boy reacted similarly to how she did.
"okay, fine. let's both shut up and just play the stupid game. we've been siting here for like five minutes already." the two compromised.
they played games for an hour or so, and almost every game started with some sort of bantering. it eventually became a competition of who would have more credits by the end of their time.
she wasn't a competitive person at heart, she was one of the most unathletic people she knew. but that didn't mean she wouldn't put her whole soul into this, she was going to beat beomgyu. no matter what!
as the games got increasingly boring, the two decided it was time to call it a day. they both scanned their cards to see how many credits they had. "how many do you have?" she asked, and he replied with a happy "578!" she gasped. "i got 577!"
"i beat you by a singular point. how does it feel? that's honestly the worst position to be in, like actually," the boy teased. "shut up before i publicly murder you."
he paid no attention to her comment, approaching the gift shop. with his credits, he bought some sort of miniature vacuum. "what the hell- how many credits is that?" she asked, genuinely amused. "like 570. there wasn't anything else i could get with my leftover eight."
she nodded, and looked at the desk of gifts. she was terrible with decisions, but she forced herself to just choose one. "can i have the sunlight lamp, please?" she paid in credits, her value back down to an embarrassing zero.
the best friends walked hand-in-hand out of the arcade, happy with the successful day. "thanks for taking me here, gyu." noticing her wide smile, he reciprocated it. "of course. let's go again sometime soon, yeah?" she nodded excitedly.
it hadn't grown dark, but it was evident that sunset was approaching. realizing this, the older brought her somewhere. "i've never shown anyone this place," he explained, pointing at the rock overlooking the han river. "i watch the sunsets from here when i need it. nobody ever comes, i was surprised at first but i understand it now."
she nodded, "thanks for showing me, then." she sat down next to the boy on the rock, resting her head on his lap. the sunset mixed with her best friend made her feel calm, internally and externally.
she felt his hands draw shapes on exposed skin, which eventually lulled her to sleep. yet she didn't care one bit. if she was with beomgyu, she knew she would always be safe.
